Their dogs are healthy, and were abandoned by previous owners, meaning they might take longer to bond to you than other dogs, but they wound up really sweet. These guys have THE worst setup, organization and volunteers ever. You have to pay to signup for events and there is an hours long window online and that's your place in line. They wont tell you when the signups start so youve gotta sit there and moniter your computer for hours while refreshing the screen every 10 seconds so you dont miss the start. Have fun sitting in front of your computer all f'ing day. You cant even step away to go check the mail bc you may miss the opening of signups. You literally have to sit and refresh your screen 60 times per hour. Hope you didnt have anything else planned for the day! When you get there you have to wait in line, in full view of the puppy pens and watch as the people in front of you circle the pens and probably take the one you had your eye on. Multiple people were crying, this setup is just plain cruel. In a nutshell- be prepared to waste your weekend, hours of your time, gas, getting treated like $hit, and have fun getting them to respond to any questions that woudve made the process 100xs easier. We really wanted to rescue but organizations like this turn people off and their doing there dogs a disservice. There are thousands of at risk dogs for getting killed in shelters but it seems like they are not to concerned about that. My kids and wife were set on a doodle but I convinced them to give rescue a chance, I now regret that choice. I'll make sure and let people know breeders are the way to go and to not bother with rescues like these jokers. Wish it couldve been differant. I signed up at 12:01:11 AM and was already number 3 in line. I am more than happy to donate $5 to get in line early. Many puppy rescues operate out of donations and the goodwill of people. We had a great time showing up early and talking with others before the doors opened. Some people brought their dogs too to see if their new puppy brother or sister would get along. When the doors opened, James guided us through the adoption process. He was loud, boisterous and funny which calmed our nerves as the energy of excitement could be felt. As soon as we picked our puppy, we had 15 minutes to get to know him. Then we went to a room to watch a video. After the video, we filled out paperwork and then off to pick up our puppy. This is a wonderful rescue! I've seen only a couple bad reviews here, but there may have been misunderstanding, but I will say from my point of view they are wrong. I rescues my first pup from them in July 2021, feel so in love with him and the rescue I started volunteering and fostering. I've never been more fulfilled. The rescue takes in a many pups as it's able and they provide all the medical care the pups need. And all the fosters are very caring and always watching the pups for any needs we find they may have, and all are addressed immediately by the rescue. This has been such a wonderful expropriation I've also foster failed a couple times. But volunteering here had been the very best experience, setting how much they care and all the good the are doing is inspirational. I adopted my puppy on 11/3/2018 and have had my dog for a about a year now. I'm so happy my girlfriend and I adopted a puppy . We didn't get the puppy we had looked at on the website be we are still so happy with our dog Oliver . They told us he is a Louisiana leopard dog but I'm pretty sure he is just full on mutt he has crazy behavior so we had to pay for training and now he is nice and tame but still full of a lot of energy . He is also aggressive to other dogs and small animals . we are hoping this goes away with age. If you're adopting a puppy I would recommend getting to the event as early as possible to get your choice pick . Don't expect a full breed all of the dogs are mixed . CPR is an amazing rescue and deserves all the praise you can see on Google! My family adopted our first dog from them back in 2007 and he was the best dog ever and my best friend. He passed away in 2019 due to old age and cancer so we waited a while to get out next dog. We decided to go back to CPR in 2022 and they have stayed an amazing rescue since we first interacted with them. We got our new pup Rocky and he has been a wild but great dog! CPR provides all records, microchips, and even gives you a bag of puppy food on your first day. We rescued our pup this weekend from CPR and we could t be more in love! The process was easy, and I admire the staff for figuring out a way to continue finding good homes for these sweet pups even in the midst of COVID. We signed up Friday night and happily donated, and got randomized pretty far down the list for the zoom call order on Saturday. We sort of thought, "ahhh we're pretty far down the list, don't think we'll find a good fit, maybe next week...." much to our surprise, we still found the SWEETEST girl, and the staff who helped us pick her out were so kind and honest with what to expect with her breed, size, etc. she's a great addition to our home, and we are so thankful for CPR! read more

We went to the adoption event hoping to visit with St. Bernard poodle pups that definitely had a lot of interest. Their events are stressful with your name being called at random, but we were one of the first lucky few to visit with the puppies. My husband and I came with our two young boys in hopes of really getting a minute to see how the puppy AND the boys did, but because these puppies were high in demand the "adoption counselors" or volunteers would not give us any uninterrupted time to visit with the sweet girl. It seemed their philosophy was if you needed over 15 minutes (mind that we only took 8-10 minutes before feeling completely hounded to give up the visit) that you were trying to convince yourself you could take the pup. We ended up not getting the puppy simply because of how the rescue made us feel. She was incredibly rude and only giving us all the negatives of a poodle breed as if we didn't do our research. While I don't doubt she went to a good home, please remember when a family is visiting especially with children that they are also taking a minute to see that the kids are doing well with the puppy or older dog. A dog doesn't just fall in love with the adults in the household but the entire family and I feel that would be important to a rescue when hoping for a successful life long placement. Additionally, this philosophy shouldn't go out the window just because people are waiting for a high demand dog- it is still a dog that needs to find the right people. I tried to adopt a dog from the Colorado Puppy Rescue and I was denied as I wanted to meet the dog before I made this big decision and I wanted to make sure that my dog and the new dog would get along. I was denied the opportunity to do so and I was told that I was not ready to adopt a dog and they denied me the adoption. My friend adopted a 3 year old mixed breed from the Colorado Puppy rescue a few weeks ago. she described this adoption process as an auction the highest fasted bidder wins you never see the dog before adoption you pay the money and pull up and they toss the dog in your car and give you some paper work. The rescue posted a few posts on Facebook about this dog and if you zoom in you can see his ears are scabbed up. after she brought him home you could physically see his skin was red, raw and irritated some parts of his ears and his paw where very swollen you could see in his eyes he was very uncomfortable and constantly scratching. He deserved better than this! she took him to the vet and turns out he has a pretty bad case of skin mites, a skin bacterial infection and a skin yeast infection. He was also not neutered, his testicles didn't drop. Now I can understand that some could miss this however if he had been seen by a vet they would have been able to find this and get him neutered. His paper work stated he was fixed. He also was not chipped. She has emailed the rescue with these concerns and has not received a response back. She got one phone call from a blocked number and the woman she talked to was rude had no concern about the skin conditions he had and that he was not cared for properly while in their care with their foster. She told her that she didn't trust the vet the dog was brought to and that the dog was neutered and no concern for the other issues that had been brought up and that they wanted her to return the dog so he can be cared for and readopted when she said "no he is a member of our family I'm not returning him" the woman told her she was crazy and she hung up her. Of course she (we) understands that becoming a pet parents vet bills will soon fallow and that is a responsibility she was and is willing to care for the dog by any means necessary. We also understand that sometime these places are overrun and not enough staff or resources and sometimes things happen. However the rescues should have cared for this animal while in their care as he was with a foster for at the very least a month. This poor pup suffered unnecessarily. This leads up to believe that other animals are not receiving the medical care they need while in the care of the Colorado puppy rescue. To me it seems that this "nonprofit" is a for profit organization flipping dogs for profit. ship dogs in and ship them out as fast as they can no vet checks and you cant see the animal before you adopt seems sketchy to me as well seems like they are trying to hide something. Feels very puppy mill. To hold up the deal that they are non profit the adoption fee is to cover things like spay/neuter, microchip, vet care ect. All animals that are adopted should come with vet and shot records a health warranty and cleared by a vet. The only case that a dog should not be fixed before adoption is when the animal is to young in turn the rescue charges a spay/neuter deposit with a contract and when the animal get to age that it is safe to preform the surgery the new owner will provide proof and the deposit is returned per the contract they enter. However the concern is still that other animals are not getting what need and deserve Due to the fact that emails are no being responded to, phone calls are ignored or she is hung up on I will be helping her file a complaint with PACFA and we will escalate this and even take legal action if necessary till we get answer and ensure that the other animals in their care get the care they need and deserve. read more

The rescue itself was very clean and well organized. You can tell all of the employees/ volunteers really care about the puppies, however there was one major flaw with the adoption process that was not made apparent on the website or in the email they send out. It is not first come first serve or based on the order you sign up on the website, they completely randomize the list. If you sign up right at 2pm when the event opens, there is no guarantee you will be able to get the dog you had hoped for. I think this should be advertised on the website because I definitely got my hopes up for one specific dog and didn't even get to meet her and then saw her being adopted right in front of me, and I was absolutely devastated. Overall, I would go in with no expectations or hopes and then it would be a good process. Otherwise temper expectations so it isn't so disheartening. read more

We've adopted two pups from other rescues and gave up an entire afternoon (getting there early, standing in line, waiting for the outtake), and we have fostered and volunteered at adoption events. CPR allows online sign-up (I highly recommend doing this!) which meant we didn't have to get there an hour before the event started. Although we were about 10th in line, one of the three pups we wanted to meet adopted us and we could not be happier! We adopted both of our dogs from CPR. The first weekend that we decided to go look, we went right at the 11am start time. Well, oops, there was a line, and the puppy we wanted went with a couple who had been in line at 8. So the next weekend, we were up and in line outside of PetCo at 630. We had looked over the list of available puppies the night before and knew we had to get this adorable shepherd mix with a wrinkly face. Well, we got her, and she is now my precious Luna, 3 years old, and still has this amazing little wrinkle on her forehead. A year later, we went through the adoption process again and picked out Kaia, a black lab/german shepherd. Both of my dogs are wonderful, and I'm so glad they are in my life! I love Colorado Puppy, because they are picking up puppies from the Rocky Mountain region at rural shelters that would otherwise have been destroyed. They are almost always mixes, and have the most interesting traits. They do adoption events that you have to be present at to adopt, and their fees are incredibly modest. They have a good adoption process, and it was pretty easy to get both our dogs. Last year, they held an alumni event and fundraiser, but I couldn't attend. I think it's a great way to get a puppy, but not buy into the puppy mill hype, or pay an insane amount for a "pure bred" that tends to have problems. They have a great small staff, and have a lot of volunteers helping them out. We just started fostering for CPR last night. My new years resolution was to volunteer more, and since I absolutely love my two pups, I wanted to give back to the organization that helped me find them. First night in and we are having a blast!! Very money hungry adoption center. they make is so you have to sign up the night before adoption with a $5 fee then have you still pay over $400 for adoption. They have you pay the $5 in order to reserve a spot. But they allow sometimes almost 100 people on the adoption list for 10 puppies. So that leave 90 people out of a dog. They took my $5 fee and did not put me on the adoption list but still kept the money. I've tried reaching out, the $5 isn't the issue. It's taking the money and not getting out on the adoption list. And we've been trying to adopt from this shelter but we are finally giving up because they refuse to respond to emails and all they care about is money when they make over $8000 an adoption weekend. read more

I've volunteered here and know firsthand that all the people here adore dogs and are wonderfully kind in general. They talk to each dog, give them above and beyond treatment, walk them, treat them, it's just stunning. Every pup gets loads of love, plus being saved from horrible conditions. Me and my sis adopted a dog each--I got a border collie/pitbull mix and she got a pug mix. My dog had worms before, but after treatment from both the rescue and home pills, we could get rid of the virus. The pug was malnourished and a shy runt, so nobody would take her. However, both dogs were just as wonderful as a purebred. In addition to talking with the insanely kind staff, we got perfect pups and saved a life. If I could give the CPR more than 5 stars, I would. CPR knows how to make adoptions work. Signing up shortly after midnight, we were #28 with 35 puppies. We had selected several we were interested in, so we had hope. It paid off. Update: I sent an email to the Hopeful Hound to inform them that their facility would need to be sterilized since my puppy had been adopted in their facility and she had been diagnosed with parvo. I received an email from Kim Fallert Ortega on 10/17/18 that was aggressive and accusatory. To be clear I never once asked for any money. I only asked that other adopters be notified that my puppy had been diagnosed with parvo and that if they wished they could test their puppies to ensure no other puppy had been infected. Kim Fallert Ortega told me that Colorado Puppy Rescue owned Hopeful Hound and told me that "our puppies are the most protected that a puppy can be while in our care," which is a grand total of 3 days (puppies arrive on Wednesdays and adopted out Saturdays). She told me that she was sorry that my puppy did not respond to the vaccine. She then accused me of not contacting her when we found out that our puppy was ill, which is untrue. As soon as the vet said our puppy had parvo we immediately called Colorado Puppy Rescue. We were given 2 options over the phone. 1. Return the puppy for a full refund. This we refused because she is our fur baby. Option 2: return the puppy and they would take care of her and we could readopt later. It was also stated that no vet bills would be covered. We refused that option because I was already paying vet bills and I wasn't about to put my poor puppy back in a kennel for this place to take care of her when she had a perfectly safe and happy home where she could heal. The only thing I ever asked for from Colorado Puppy rescue was for them to contact the owners of the puppies at the adoption event on 10/6/18 to let them know there was a case of parvo and to check their puppies. This request was denied and Kim Fallert Ortega accused me of demanding that this action be taken when I had simply requested it. She told me "We are experienced and can come off harshly when trying to get at the root of the problem and get things figured out over the phone." There was nothing to figure out, our vet diagnosed our puppy with full blown parvo, and we called Colorado Puppy Rescue requesting they notified owners of puppies that were exposed. Kim Fallert Ortega then continued in her email to me to say "It is irritating to be accused of not knowing procedure and protocols where illness and our rescue operation is concerned." I simply wrote her back and stated that we could agree to disagree about how this should have been handled. As far as I am aware no one at the 10/6/18 adoption event has been notified that there was a case of parvo. Trust with a rescue is built on clear communication and transparency. This is clearly not a priority with Colorado Puppy Rescue. If you adopt from here please ensure that you take your Hi All, I just wanted to get this information out there. If you adopted a puppy from Colorado Puppy Rescue on 10/6/18 please have your puppy tested for parvo. I adopted my sweet Luna from Colorado Puppy Rescue on 10/6/18 from them and within 2 days she stopped eating. My husband and I rushed her to the vet and had her tested. The vet confirmed that she had full blown parvo and that there was no chance of a false positive. We were told that if we had waited any longer she would have died. I have contacted Colorado Puppy Rescue to let them know and they said they would contact her litter mate. But since she was exposed to the other puppies at that adoption event on 10/6/18 at the Hopeful Hound located at 16780 E Iliff Ave, Aurora, CO 80013 I want to try to get the information out to owners of other potentially infected puppies. About 3 years (Before they started the $5 sign up fee), my wife and I went to an adoption event. We looked at several puppies, they suggested one that hadn't been adopted after three events. She was the friendliest of the puppies we saw, the reason we guessed no one wanted this little black puppy was the patch of missing fur the rescue never had treated. A couple of weeks of anti-bacterial ointment took care of that. Two days after bring our new puppy home, she began to vomit and have diarrhea. We rushed her to the VET ER to have her diagnosed with parvo. When we called the "rescue" to inform them of the illness, the lady on the phone argued that the vet must of misdiagnosed the parvo and it was must likely worms, she insisted that we return the puppy and let them treat the puppy in house. The wife and I refused the return the puppy and had her treated in the ICU by the vet office. Because parvo is highly infective and deadly, we were informing the "rescue" not for a refund or help with medical bills but, so that could tell the other adopters, their new puppy was exposed. They never informed anyone as we had a friend that went with us and adopted a puppy too. I would never adopt from there again. read more

My puppy Koda was adopted at the previous adoption event held on the 23rd of this month, and was diagnosed with PARVOVIRUS this morning, only meaning that I had adopted a puppy who currently had PARVOVIRUS, he is getting the right care he needs no thanks to the Colorado puppy rescue. The puppy rescue advised me to hold off treatment until I could take the pup 3 hours away to there location. My person vet advised me to keep the pup where he was because he wouldn't make the drive without having a iv. I hate to bash a charitable organization but this shelter is downright shady. We adopted a chihuahua puppy from a local Petco, where CPR was hosting an adoption event. We took the puppy home and over the next two days the puppy quickly began eating his own skin! Not just fur...he was chewing and eating down to the muscle. He was doing this in 6-8 different places. In the places that he couldn't reach with his mouth, he was scratching with his paw leaving large raised welts. We took him to the vet and they were shocked. The nurse said he had been in this line of work for 10 years and had never seen anything like this. The vet wanted to do multiple diagnostic tests, adding up to over $200 before even starting treatment. They said it could be anything from fungus, bacteria, to allergy. They gave a general diagnosis of severe dermatitis. We unfortunately were unable to afford diagnosing or treating the puppy. We also have other pets and were worried about them contracting what the puppy had. We decided the best thing for the pup was to return him to the shelter. CPR has a refund guarantee in their contract, stating that if you adopt a puppy that is diagnosed with an illness within the first 10 days, you can return the puppy and receive your adoption fee back. However, when we contacted the shelter we were told that their guarantee only applies if we had the vet perform all of the diagnostic tests (at $200). The contract states nothing regarding this. The contract does state that you can return a puppy at 4-10 days and receive a refund. We were at day 3. She refused to make an exception, even being only one day early. We politely explained that we had taken the day off from work and didn't want to have to miss another day of work. We also expressed our concern about infecting our other pets. She refused to budge, saying that we could return the puppy right then, but we would forfeit our adoption fee. We had no choice but to return the puppy and lose out on the adoption fee. As I stated earlier, I understand this is a charity, but considering all of the factors, they could have made an exception for us. I have since read other reviews of the shelter adopting out sick puppies and plain ol' being rude. Watch out and buyer beware. read more

I signed up to be a foster parent! It's a lot of fun. You go to an orientation and Renee tells you all the ins and outs about being a foster parent. They give you food, special water and a kennel. I kept my cute little puppies for only a couple of days cause they both got adopted on Saturday at Petco (the one Colorado near Best Buy. BEWARE:I purchased a puppy from Colorado Puppy Rescue (1/27/2012) and the puppy was diagnosed with Parvo and was hospiltalized at Alameda East a few days later. The shelter will not notify any of the other 18 individuals who purchased puppies at the Adoption Event and may have been exposed to the virus which is highly contagious and deadly if not treated because they do not except the test that Alameda East performed on my puppy as confirmation of Parvo. They will not refund me any of the vet expenses or the $200 adoption fee as they are bound by their policies... Unfortunate that a Puppy Rescue is so irresponsible and as a non-profit will not do the right thing. read more

I adopted a puppy from CPR at the hopeful hound in Aurora. They sad it was a lab/shepherd mix and per the paperwork it test negative for parvo. but the puppy ended up having parvo. So they took the dog back to treat it for parvo. 8 days later they called us saying he was healthy again and we could readopt. So we did and as I paid they all of sudden found that he was infested with ticks..then told me my old contract is the same contract and refunds would not be given since it was after 8 days. So I took him home and brought him to my vet which then after the exam determined that he was malnourished, infested with ticks, recovering with parvo still having a fever, and a bacterial infection in his intestines from drinking stale water that had been sitting there and not changed. To top all of that off, he is not a lab/shepherd mix, he is a Chihuahua/terrior mix that can not be out in the cold weather at all. So I then decided to contact the hopeful hound and express my absolute unhappiness of the practices of this place - that my dog came back from them even unhealthier than he started..they tried to blame me but offered to give me my money back. When I returned the puppy an employee there tried to claim that my vet was wrong, talked very belligerent to me and followed me out of the building. very classy place - not. I would never recommend this place. In fact, I am filing a neglect complaint on them in regards to their unhealthy practices. These puppies deserve better than they are doing.
