Great self defense training studio! I've been coming here for about 2 years now. The instructors are great, and the classes are challenging but also low key if you're just getting into marshal arts or self defense. They do a great job of easing in beginners and also training up those with existing skills. The community is also amazing, the regulars are friendly and welcoming. While visiting the Taste of Colorado for the first time this summer, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon the Krav Maga stand and were instantly intrigued. The two men that were there representing Krav Maga were very friendly and knowledgeable. They gave us a free pass for an introductory class. We were absolutely psyched! My boyfriend who comes from a very athletic and similar training (he did BJJ for a few years) was just as excited as myself (who hasn't done anything similar to Krav Maga). We went in on a Saturday morning for the intro class and boy, were we whipped into shape. They start out the class doing different exercises to get your heart rate up. After about a 5 minute warm up, they start the actual class. I had SO much fun learning all the different techniques they showed us and I was upset when the class went by super fast! I really like how the trainers show you the technique they want you to imitate, then they walk around afterwards and watch how everyone puts it together. It really gives you a sense that they care about teaching you the proper way to position your body for the movement. Also, they will answer any questions that you have right then and there about the specific technique displayed. After thoroughly enjoying the class, my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to sign up for a membership. They have a variety of different classes (so you don't get bored) and its also a great way to switch up exercise on your body. The staff is very friendly and they will gladly help you with any questions or concerns. All in all, if you're considering giving Krav Maga a try they will give you a free introductory class which you'd be a fool not to take advantage of! At least if you feel that its not for you, you gave it a shot. I can almost guarantee after you finish the intro class, you'll be wanting more! Give it a shot! It's definitely worth it! read more

Not many people know this, but krav maga is hebrew for "powerful kick to the groin." No, really, Krav Maga is a close combat system developed for the Israeli defense force, and has since become very popular as a method of self defense and powerful attacks. It is also one HELL of a workout. A friend of mine had been training krav in san fransisco, and I had been meaning to check them out here. Luckily I ran into them at the peoples fair, they hit me with a shock knife (which was awesome), and I signed up for one of their free intro seminars. I have since been going a little over a month, and have had 4 of my friends sign up for classes. Shawn, Mike, and the rest of the staff are friendly, cater to all fitness levels and can modify workouts in case of injury or medical conditions, and the facility itself is clean and a very positive environment. It is an incredible workout, as I mentioned, and I am learning some great self defense skills, which, let's face it, certainly don't hurt living in a city. American krav focuses on hand to hand first, but they have great methods to defend against weapons such as guns, knives, et cetera. Knowing krav could definitely save your life or the life of someone else, and you will be a healthier, happier person too! KRAV ROCKS! read more

I am a returning member. After a year away I had to come back. The work outs are good and they challenge you. I love that every class you learn something you can use immediately. All the instructors at the Denver school are very nice and helpful. Before joining I had never been in a fight (well w my sister but I am not sure it counts) so learning how to punch and kick is great and fun. I had my niece, nephew and goddaughter take the kids seminar and both the female instructors for that were fantastic and the parents learned a lot from watching class as well. After many years as a Martial Artist, I wanted something effective, brutal, and with no "secret" techniques no bowing and scraping and no multi-year learning curve. I found what I was looking for in Krav. Membership packages are nice in that they include all the classes you qualify for (beginners can't take expert classes) at the Denver, Boulder, or Broomfield locations. While in the Army, I had the opportunity to train with a few martial arts experts in the Denver area and was particularly impressed by the common sense and efficiency of Krav Maga. A few years, and even more gained weight, later I decided that I would look into joining a Krav Maga gym. After participating in a free introductory class at a few local Krav Maga gyms, I felt like Denver Krav Maga (Colorado Regional Krav Maga Training Center, Denver) was the best fit for me. The staff does a great job describing each technique, the reason for each move, how to modify in order not to seriously hurt your training partner, and even when to show restraint in order to avoid criminal prosecution. Some might be put-off by the intensity of the instructors, but to me they are as no-nonsense as the intense and sometimes brutal self-defense that they teach. I particularly like how they use different drills to simulate the stress of a fight/altercation. There are currently 4 locations in the Denver metro area, and membership allows entrance in any class at any location. I have personally attended the Crosskick, Cage Fitness, and other cardio classes and have lost 30 lbs in the past year. If you want to learn how to defend yourself and your loved ones, gain confidence, and get a seriously ass-kicking workout this is the place for you. read more

I'm a long time martial artist and like Shawn (other review), I've been looking for something outside of tradition and more applicable to the real world. Denver Krav Maga has it. They are growing very fast (maybe a little too fast) and working on better, more timely communication with their members. I disagree with Madalynne that Mike (don't know the other guy) is unprofessional or unethical. QUITE the contrary. He is hard to reach, true. When I get him on the phone, he really goes the extra mile to keep members happy. That said, and Mike will agree, their third-party billing company sucks. They need a billing company with better customer service. I got a new credit card in the mail which closed out the old one and the billing company tried to charge me a bunch of crap fees. I went back and forth with them for months until I asked Mike to intervene. Once he did, he whipped them back into line. I don't judge a company by what goes wrong. I judge them by what they do to make you a happy customer. Mike came through and I'm back to a great training experience. I'm sure Mike will be able to work out the kinks and since he continues to grow of yet another space, it's a good sign he's doing a lot well. read more

I have been taking classes here for just over 2 years and it keeps getting better and better. The instructors are top notch! (Annie, Zach, Aron, Nate etc...), the facilities are clean and well taken care of and you really feel like you are part of something that is important and somewhat life-changing. I just recently signed my 6-year-old son up for classes and I am excited about his journey in the years to come and can't wait to do the same for my other 2 younger children. Your "skill-level", "fitness-level" and "toughness-level" are irrelevant, they will get you there. You will gain strength, confidence, and ability that you never thought were possible and they do it with the utmost grace, understanding, and professionalism. I have been training at the Denver studio for approximately one month and thus far it has been a great experience. I have known of Km for quite a while now but it seemed that it wasn't very popular here in the U.S. If I could have joined here sooner I would have. The studio is clean, the instructors are friendly and will gladly answer any questions but are serious about training. I have had no experiences of the 30+ people in a small room stated by a previous reviewer. The classes have been 10-15 people and the instructors have had the opportunity to walk around and spend personal time with those training to answer questions or correct any problems in the techniques. I look forward to continuing the experience at the Denver studio and am excited to witness my personal transformation into a healthier self and a useful skill set. read more

I have to agree with the two other ones stars on here. These people are out for money. They are super nice and smiley when you start. They'll say "welcome to the family". When in reality, the family only consists of the ones who work there. After a month or so, they tend to not really care about you any more. Pay close attention to the schedule. There are plenty of options when you're still in basic, but once you level up, it's harder to take classes. They only offer two advanced & expert classes a week. If you're not working the typical 9-5, I do not recommend signing a contract with them. You'll end up wasting your money. Also, keep in mind that they bribe their students to do 5 star reviews. Many of them were written in the hopes that they'll win a prize. read more

Really enjoyed the work outs here. Most the instructors really push you and if you feel like you want a harder work out you can come to the fitness classes also. Downsides are the classes are often packed, and you really get beat up. Which is fun and chalanging but sometimes you need a weeks rest but it is tough becuase youre paying $120 per month. That being said I did have a more serious injury and they were great about putting my membership on hold while I was out. read more

I took three friends with me to the free class they offer and it was great. After the class they pull out these car sales personalities and present you with a deal that's "only for that day." When asked what their cancellation policy is they say if you move far away, if you die or if you provide a physician's not saying you're no longer able to attend. After a few months of going my friend and I sustained different injuries from the impact of the classes not to mention the class sizes were 30+ people in a tiny room and you're constantly running into people. We both went to Krav and gave them our notes after them never returning calls, voicemails or 5 different emails. They said, "ok no problem we'll consider this your 30 day's notice and once you see the $50.00 cancellation fee you'll know it's canceled." A month later I called to verify and still no one called me back after weeks of trying. I received an email saying their billing company expected fraud on our doctor's notes and need to investigate. Since these notes were valid I wanted them to call and verify which they never did. It turned out their billing company never even saw the notes and didn't say that. James Hirimosa and Mike McDonald are incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate and definitely present themselves as though they're out to rip people off. They wouldn't cancel our membership and after 21/2 months we had to actually hire a lawyer to get us out of the membership. This company tells lies to lure people in and sign up for their membership that can never be broken despite what they tell you when you sign up. They're all nice to you when you sign up then they act like complete jerks two months into you attending classes. This would have been something I would continue to recommend because it was a great workout but their attitudes and business ethics are the poorest I've even been exposed to. I will never recommend this company to anyone seeking martial arts training. Buyer extremely beware. read more

The Krav Maga classes here are top notch. Not only are they very fun but it is comfortable to be a person of any size in these classes. There is no forced diet culture or fatphobia. The instructors respect your boundaries and are encouraging. They also come around to correct or adjust your form for every move to make sure you won't get hurt and you get the best outcome out of the move. It'd been a really long time since I'd signed up for any sort of physical exercise classes. My boyfriend and best friend had mentioned I might like Krav Maga. The problem with "regular" exercise is I get bored really quick. I give up, with no goal insight, or just from plain disinterest in the goal. Krav Maga gives me real, tangible and sustainable goals to work towards and I'm loving it! Updated 1/12/2016 after 7 months and a yellow belt: a big kudos to the team for turning me onto krav maga. I attended the free women's self defense class last April and then came to a live class after that and it's changed my life. I don't think I would have succeeded without the no ego team and other participants. No one ever made me feel like I wasn't good enough, while also never over boosting my own ego to think I was super awesome which keeps me challenged. read more

Okay place, good workout though, membership is kind of expensive and if you sign up for the contract, they buy out option adds up really quickly and isn't ideal. (56$ per month plus 50$ fee, total of about 162$ for two months) Definitely think twice about getting this membership if you are in a tight schedule or are just starting off, Denver Parks and Recreation is much better. The staff here is very welcoming though, all that said if I could go back, I probably wouldn't sign the contract, but I might try the 216$ a month instead to try it out. read more

I LOVE this place! First off, I moved to Denver around 3 years ago and I have been looking for the last year and a half for a good martial art studio. Most places around there offer a free first class so you can try them out. I have been to a bunch of different places, none were terrible just not quite the atmosphere I was looking for until here! I have to disagree with Madalynne M., I am not sure what happened with her experience, but honestly I can't see that happening now. I have been going for 3 months now, and I am greeted with a hello EVERY single day I enter that place. Students and Instructors are extremely friendly and very accommodating. I felt very welcome there, and never once has there been a class where I felt uncomfortable with the attitude or ethics of the establishment. They are not pushy at all. When I was quoted prices (which are seriously the cheapest by at least 75 dollars from all other places I have been too) I mentioned that I needed to check out my budget first, the response I got was "No problem, call back when you make a decision, or if you have any further questions. We hope to see you here, but only if it works for you and you want it." I seriously couldn't be more impressed with their professionalism. 1. Atmosphere: The attitude in this place is awesome. Everyone is enthusiastic and very very nice and welcoming. They usually spend some time ensuring that the new person knows the quick basic stance and drills, and if they forget they are more than happy to answer any questions you have. What I really like about this place is how casual it is. There is no uniform (except the little kids), there is no formal address, nothing like that. The instructors are very approachable and informative. It feels like a bunch of buddies getting together to train, all different ages, sizes, body types, plenty of both genders. I also like that you don't have to be in shape to start. The classes have a huge fitness emphasis, which is great, but they don't push or embarrass you if you can't do something. You can tell they want you to push yourself, but they don't push you beyond what you are capable of. 2. Variety: I love that they offer boxing, BJJ, Krav, and several types of fitness classes. The membership I have (which is inexpensive compared to every other martial art studio i researched) is whatever class I want, as long as it isn't more advanced than I am capable of (such as going to Krav expert when I haven't tested for it). 3. Krav: I love this style of self-defense. It is direct, and effective. There isn't any fancy kicks or tricks it is straight up self-defense. Every move has a purpose (either to get you space from the attacker, or to hurt them). This isn't training for tournaments it is training for real life. You get what you put into it. So there are some people who are crazy intense fit, there are others who are clearly there for MMA training, there are people who just go because they enjoy it, then there are people who are just there to learn the skill just in case. Whatever the reason you are there doesn't matter, everyone is just glad that you are there. 4. Cost: I have checked out several places for cost, and quite honestly this is the best deal I could find. They have a third party handling their transactions, but I haven't had a problem with them. The contracts are very similar to other studios I have checked out, only a little bit more lenient. They let you put your contract on hold if you get sick/injured or are out of town, then add that time to the end of the contract when you come back (this was a first for me to see, I LOVE this idea). They have a cancelation fee, but almost all places do so that didn't deter me. What I loved was the fact I have unlimited classes! BOOM! To sum it up, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, without being pushy. The classes are intense, but fun and informative. And best of all the price is right! I think I will be a member here for quite a while! read more
