I got just what I wanted (chop and weight removal since my hair is super thick). She was quick af, too. The wash, cut and blow dry was done within 45 mins. The decor is cute too! Lots of pop culture memorabilia. Park for free at the Camden Apt Retail lot with easy access to the salon. On top of this, Moni was soooo funny and personable. There wasn't a moment of awkward silence. I'm so glad to have found this place!!

The owner (originally from Chicago) explained the buildout and history of his shop, as he delicately cut a guys cut. My stylist was a sweetheart and it almost felt like a bargain, as she did such a nice job for a reasonable price. She even showed me a coffee table book, showcasing her & her family during the aftermath of a major Southern California earthquake (Northridge Quake, 1994). All very interesting and informative, indeed! Parking is very easy and you can grab a snack around the corner before your appointment. What's not to love? Can't recommend this place enough!

But most of the time I was just another guy standing around not talking to complete strangers. All depended on the music and the drinks. They don't play dancing music here as often as I'd like, but this is a pretty great location IMO to grab drinks before or after going out. Even can pop off during the week, in fact that's when you find the more motivated crowd and service industry letting loose. Though sometimes I felt a bit out of my element here, at least there was usually no cover. I did take some friends once randomly on their birthday cause of course being young guys they wanted to meet the Hollywood "babes." I tried to introduce them politely and failed, not their fault it's a rather uppity crowd. If your friends are 6'5, blue eyes, finance and trust fund types, you'll do fine. Otherwise, maybe go somewhere a little more low-key that attracts an expat community and big oil money, instead of rich college actor or model money. Which is admittedly a tough thing to find in this part of town, but if you go where the demo is less straight you'll likely have a lot more fun.

One of the hardest things to find when it comes to find a good fighting gym is a place that has the…read moreright culture and vibe for everyone. A place that isn't toxic, that has respectful regulars who aren't territorial, a place where people offer their hand and give their name first before asking for yours. You'd be surprised at how openly hostile, rude, tribal, clique-y, and toxic a fighting gym can be. (Or maybe you aren't) Regardless, the rare places that aren't like that, you gotta hold onto. Not to mention, you have to have a coach who took the time, paid "the dues", and is passionate about the art. The DEN, I can assure is one of those places. If you're curious about the art of 8 limbs, or if you're somebody who wants to fully get into it. Stop by the Den! 10/10 would recommend. On a side note.....Coach James is one of the great "what-ifs" of the sport. In my mind, he could have been an incredible professional fighter. But, in his own words, "I never liked the spot light and I don't like getting too much attention." But "I just love Muay Thai, and I'm getting to do what I love." But don't let the sentiment fool you. He's an absolute beast in the ring, and guys nearly 20 years his junior have a hard time keeping up with him when they spar. The gym also is quite "Spartan", no frills, no expensive machines, one punching bag, a few weights, a bathroom, an equipment room, a mat area, and a ring. That's about it. Everyone gets nice a close on a busy day, but for me, that's kind of the charm of the place. No crazy amenities, just a temple dedicated to the striking art. The regulars, including the guys who have been coming for years, are remarkably laid-back individuals. No real chip on anyone's shoulders, no one is trying to prove anything, just a bunch of real enthusiasts of the art. Case in point, I'm surprised to find that after a few weeks, a bunch of them even remembered my name, gave me a fist bump, and welcomed me back. But again, don't let the sentiment fool you, if you punch hard, they'll punch back harder, and if you think you keep up with them, they'll take you to depths you haven't been before. There are levels to this game, and there a people there who are going to be 2-3 levels above you. My advice, be friendly, be consistent, be respectful, and stay humble.

Definitely worth it! The vibes are unmatched. It's a unique blend of "top notch cocktail crafting" and "beer and a hot pretzel after work." You can dress up, you can dress down, it's very 'just be yourself' which I love. I've literally had caviar AND hot dogs there in the same night at an event. They know how to blend high/low. Incredible knowledge and ingredients but not snooty patootie. Super inclusive and fun, with cool popups and events happening all the time. It's a full bar so you can get any cocktail you would normally order if you're keeping it simple, or beer, wine, boilermakers, etc. There's a span of offerings and price points, so something for everyone. (Also really good N/A cocktails!) The menu is super inventive and creative! And the cocktail menu changes out every so often so there are new things to try. This area is vintage vibes and Baby Gee speaks it fluently. Really cool decor, curated by the owners who design everything from the playlist to the cocktails to the invention of never-before-seen flavors and shapes of jello shots. Try the Baby Gee appletini while you're there. Mezcal, tequila, sake appletini you ask?? Yes. Trust. And get a hot dog. Do it.

It's clear the owners put a lot of thought and creativity into making their cocktails the centerpiece of the experience. That said, the execution didn't live up to the concept. The menu appears to rotate regularly, and while the drinks were certainly unique, most of the cocktails we tried were hit or miss. At roughly $22 per drink, I expected more balance and refinement. One cocktail started with flavors reminiscent of an Old Fashioned, but after the initial sip, the combination of bitters and fruit syrups created an unpleasant cough syrup like finish. We tried a mocktail as well, and it was mostly ice and soda water, with what seemed like a collection of syrups doing most of the heavy lifting. The drinks were creative, but many of the flavor profiles felt disjointed rather than intentional. The biggest issue, however, was the bar service and sanitation practices. I watched a bartender place a cucumber garnish into a glass using his bare hands, touching the entire garnish in the process. He then continued to take credit cards, cash, and other items before stuffing ice into additional drinks with his bare hands. Whether or not this technically violates health code standards, it certainly wasn't appetizing to watch and left a poor impression. Parking is another challenge. There is no dedicated parking, and unless you get lucky, expect to park several blocks away and walk. Overall, the atmosphere is a lot of fun and the cocktail menu is ambitious, but the drinks didn't justify the price point, and the sanitation concerns were hard to overlook. I wouldn't rush back, especially given the cost and parking difficulties.
