Everyone is incredibly personable, professional and patient. Shannon has been doing my daughter's hair, and I am always so happy with how beautiful it turns out. You can tell she truly cares about their work and she takes pride in making sure her clients leave feeling good and loving their hair. One of the things I appreciate the most is how accommodating Shannon is willing to work with my unpredictable schedule. Do not trust Shannon aka "Glam with Shan" with your beautiful hair. I went in for a long hair cut and asked for a long layered cut with face framing. The above photos are the ones I showed Shannon as inspo and I asked to maintain as much of my length as possible. I was nervous about what she was doing as she was cutting my hair and she told me to wait for the final results. When she parted my hair before the cut and it wasn't where I normally have it, I asked her if I could part it for her and she wouldn't let me. Throughout the cut, I had to interject and ask questions because she wasn't communicating with me at all about what she was doing. I asked her at least three times to adjust the layers and facial framing at the end in hopes to help the cut look better, but nothing she did helped. Her hands were shaking the entire time she was doing my hair and I kept telling myself she probably drank an energy drink, but now I'm assuming she was nervous to be working with my hair. I have thick, long, red hair and understand that not everyone is capable of working with every type of hair. What I expect from any professional is to know their limitations and be honest about what they are and are not capable of doing. My hair is not for someone to practice on. I reached out to the salon for a refund because the services I received are not what I asked for and I was instructed to reach out to her directly. I have attached screenshots of all communication. I have an appointment with another stylist at a different salon to have my hair fixed, but I am hoping this review can save someone else from the same experience. read more

I dunno if i have a sensitive head or what but i did a cut and color here and the wash actually hurt a lot. To be honest i usually dread the wash because the bowl hurts my neck. But this was the most painful wash I've ever had. On top of the usual neck ache which i normally deal with there was So much hair pulling and she was just really rough on the scalp. I'm not asking for it be sensual but I'm not a doll. I have slightly wavy hair not even curly so i don't know why a wash had to hurt so bad, i just tried to grin and bear it. but i honestly don't think i can come back bc i honestly feel embarrassed paying $300 for someone to hurt me. I walked by the salon and it just looked like so much fun. The staff is as friendly as can be. The ambiance is eclectic and amazing. Everything from flying bicycles to chilled water glasses. It is a Schwarzkopf Color salon which is the best color line in the world, so they can give their clients the best quality of color available. As for fun colors they also use Pulp Riot to produce the most amazing fashion fun hair for today's trendy looks. I've been to the Den salon a few times prior to them bringing on the lovely and talented Meredith but since I've seen her, I refuse to go anywhere else. Meredith has such pride in her craft and is one of the most knowledgeable stylists I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her skills know no bounds. She's now taken my hair from a brassy orange to a gorgeous blonde baylayage (that's lasted months without any brassiness or touch ups needed) and very lovingly held my hand (so to speak) on cutting almost ten inches off my long mane bringing me to an outstanding asymmetrical long bob. This salon is lovely. I was in Long Beach for a couple days and was in desperate need of a haircut. I yelped salons near my hotel and thankfully found this cute place. Everyone there was so nice, no pretense. I was so lucky to get an appointment with Moni. She shaped up my long hair perfectly, as well as smoothed out my pesky heat damaged top layer. She is a seasoned stylist, super talented, and couldn't have been nicer. She also have me a fantastic scalp massage. One thing to note is that the entrance is around the back of the building. The sign in on the front of building facing Ocean Blvd, but you have to go around. I mentioned this b/c not being from the area at first I thought they were longer a functional salon! Chris did it again! Man I love that guy. He is like a Da Vinci when it comes to hair coloring and styling. I followed him over from his old spot to this new amazing place. We know this to be bullshit. 2. However shitty our hair looks, don't tell us you can "read through it." My hair was dry from the California sun. True. I have never experienced such a horrible hair salon experience before Den Salon. I called two weeks in advance, coming from out of town to get my hair styled. I knew exactly what I wanted and told them that ahead of time. When I first arrived the secretary was more than kind, really the only good thing I can say about this place.. My hair stylist was 20mins late before even touching my head. Keep in mind I had a special occasion I needed to attend. Aside from being late, totally understandable, he was talking up a storm with the lady ahead of me but when it was my turn he BARELY even spoke to me!! The whole entire time. Only time he had something to say was how damaged my hair was.. That's not even what made my experience horrific.. being 5 stars I would have thought that any of the hair stylists who worked there could simply curl someone's hair WITHOUT burning their client's scalp. No, not just once, twice, or three times. But multiple times. Even BOUNCED the hair curler off my head once. When I thought he was done.. he went ahead and burned my ear too. 45mins after the time I was SUPPOSE to be done, I finally walked out having to pay the parking lot fee because I had already sent my husband to go get our car since we were so late for our event, not knowing that DEN would reimburse me. As I sat in the front waiting area finishing my beer, Judy told me that I lucked out in getting a walk-in. I was violently searching the web for a hair salon in Long Beach that would let me in for an overdue bang trim. I had to attend a reading that evening and after three rejections I called The Den. I think it was Judy that eased my desperation with an appointment within an hour of the time I called. Already, I loved the place. But then I arrived and Judy asked me if I wanted something to drink and I didn't want to leave. After a 15 minute bang-trim, during which I downed a glass of white wine and laughed uncontrollably with Judy and Meredith, I booked another appointment for a haircut. Meredith is a gorgeous, nerdy, eccentric, incredibly happy and genuinely concerned human being. I loved my time in her chair. She could be a Disney character. There aren't many stylists that will hold a blow-dryer between your legs because its so damn hot or give you ridiculously detailed advice through some sort of psychic-all-knowing-goddess thing. She gives an amazing neck massage over the bowl, a great hair cut (she will not take too much off if you don't want her to), creates a plan for whatever your hair goals may be, and is capable of a badass blow-out. I'm a recent Long Beach transplant and prior to The Den I had been working with a local stylist that was charging $300.00 for a color and $100.00 for a cut. Meredith showed me in an extremely polite way how uneven my hair cut was and different bands of color throughout my hair that did not make any comprehensible sense. I HIGHLY recommend going to The Den Salon. Everyone that works there knows sincere customer service. Their prices are extremely reasonable for the caliber of stylists that work there. After writing my first review of the Den I wasn't too excited about my previous 3 visits. However, after hearing of my experience Andy (the owner of the Den) invited me back for a free haircut to address my hesitations about the Den. First, Andy is amazing! A super nice guy who really appreciates his customers and goes head over heels to make sure they're taken care of. Secondly, he faded the sides of my hair really great and smooth without any stray hairs or a lop-sided fade. Thirdly, he allowed me to return the mousse bottle I purchased last time, even though I didn't have the original receipt or the credit card I used to purchase it. I definitely recommend him to anyone else that likes a faded side. Especially with the free booze they give you. Lastly, THAT CONDITIONER ON THE NAPE OF YOUR NECK AND SPRAY OF WATER BEFORE THEY SHAVE IS AMAZING @__@. Seriously ask them to do it because all sorts of tingly sensations happen. I made a disastrous mistake where I dyed my hair midnight black (it was a phase) and Meredith knew I wanted to dye my hair another color but she would not allow me damage it (heart of GOLD). I never been so welcomed in a business establishment before and the den salon treats you like family. Christina was my stylist and I absolutely love her! I have curly hair and she is the first person that I ever trusted with my hair. When I first came to her she right away noticed that my hair went through a lot of bad hair cuts. I got bored with my hair color and got this crazy idea into my head that I wanted rainbow hair. I looked around everywhere trying to find a place that I thought could pull it off. When the living social deal came up on my phone, I checked out the salon to see if anyone there could do it and when I saw Heather's profile I knew she would be perfect! I sent the salon an e-mail with pictures of what I wanted and I was surprised that the response was one of excitement instead of fear or "Oh, hell no." I came in for a consultation that weekend. Everyone was super friendly and Heather still seemed super excited so I set up two appointments for the next weekend to get it done. The overall experience was awesome. I got wine to drink, mags to read and a super attentive hair stylist. What a fabulous salon that truly goes above and beyond to care for its clients! My mom is a regular client and while she was dying to get her hair cut, she has been cautious to go out due to Corona Virus. The team at The Den took the time to wait and open when they knew they could take the steps necessary to keep everyone safe. From their checkin procedure, cleanliness of the salon (the floors, rafters everything was gleaming), chair separators, spacing and more, the owners and team at The Den are Amazing! Now, my mom also gets her hair done by Dennis and she is the coolest woman out there. If David Bowie could have my mom's platinum do - he would! OMG!! Chris is so amazing, he is super detailed not to mention super talented, he makes sure he understands all your concerns and does exactly what you ask for no problem. He is the only person my daughter will let do her crazy hair colors & cuts. The pricing is another thing I love here, for all you nitpicking people that want to get highlights, new style cut and wanna only pay $25 (you know who you are) this is not the place for you, please don't waste their time being a customer and when you grow up and become client then you can graduate to this place. read more

Can't believe i haven't reviewed this sooner. I drive to long beach to get my hair cut by Andy every time. The whole staff is great, and can you beat the wine and spoiling you get while you get gorgeous? I think not. Andy has been cutting my hair for years and now that he has his own place, it's even better. I wouldn't have it any other way! read more
