On our trips we normally do not eat at chain restaurants, however on a recent trip to Springfield, KY we did have dinner at Colton's in Bardstown, KY. We arrived for dinner around 615pm. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess. They were not very busy so we were seated right away. The decor of the restaurant is western and the music they play is country. That was one fun thing that I found, the booth that was behind us had a family of four sitting at it. The gentleman at the table would occasionally sing along with the music. I thought that was pretty neat. You don't usually find that kind of comfort in a chain restaurant. We started our meal with 2 appetizers: Fried Pickles (Dill slices coated in Colton's seasoned breading and fried to a golden crisp. Served with spicy ranch dressing.) and a small order of Cheese Fries (Steak fries layered in a blend of cheeses, topped with bacon and green onions. Served with spicy ranch dressing for dipping.). We enjoyed both of them. I really liked the spicy ranch that went with the Fried Pickles. I also liked that they used Steak Fries for the Cheese Fries. For dinner I had the 10oz Ribeye with a side salad and fried okra. Jenni had the New York Strip with a side salad and a loaded baked potato. Our steaks were cooked perfect. The seasoning that they use was just enough to enhance the natural flavor of the beef. I loved the salad- everything in it was fresh. I loved the crisp of the lettuce. Jenni enjoyed her loaded bake potato. She said that the potato texture was smooth (not grainy like some baked potatoes). The fried okra was just so-so. I know when you travel to the area, you usually are looking for a yummy local place to eat. I think you should be open to giving Colton's a try. If you traveling with a family, there is something on the menu for everyone. The prices are very affordable. I recommend Colton's for a nice, affordable, and tasty dinner. read more

Dinner was typical steakhouse. Ordered a sirloin that was undercooked. Definitely rare and not medium. Service, however is where I was won over. Our server was great. I wish I could remember her name. We were sat in the bar and it was a slow night so employees were gathered there talking, not the most professional conversations. read more

11/28/2022 - Ordered Chicken Fried Steak. It was burnt to a crisp literally! The poor waitress brought it out and left it with me. It was so bad that a customer walked but and asked what in the world I ordered. Usually I don't say anything but this was horrible so I asked the waitress to take it back. She acted shocked that the food was burnt. She took it back and brought me another. She said the manager would not charge for our meal but the manager never came out and talked with us. My wife's grilled chicken was somewhat burnt as well but we did not send it back. We left a nice tip and left. Will never be back! read more

We honestly weren't expecting much from this place, but there was a limited selection of restaurants to choose from on a Monday night in Bardstown, so we gave it a whirl. The service was friendly and prompt and the steak melted in your mouth. You could practically cut it with a fork it was so tender. And the price was what I pay for a cut from the butcher. I always have to debate coming here, or somewhere else for a treat out. my server today was Heaven. Always letting me know about my food, the wait time and brutally honest about what's going on in the kitchen. i loved her. the appetizers alone is enough to fill you up. the food is so much for a great price. the only negative i have, is the booths are so uncomfortable. as someone with 3 herniated discs and hip joint issues. i have to take multiple trips to the bathroom for withstand the pain. but i always come back to this place for the amazing customer service and good food. not to mention CLEAN BATHROOMS read more

Chose to try out the local steakhouse in this small town known as Bardstown Ky! After recently moving here to get away from that big city feel; this steakhouse definitely took on the small town greetings that I wanted to feel when finding my new favorite local spot to call my own! Walked in to a surprising very welcoming rustic environment. After a warm welcome and a walk to the table, the menu was laid out and my eyes were on the prize! Everything sounded so amazing from the vastly large optional items and was hard to choose! Since I was there for lunch I still had to indulge in the steak tips! The smiling waitress had some recommendations for first timers and I as well as my guest were impressed! The salads were crisps and green with just the right amount of dressing; Very tasty! However those steak tips weren't going be left on the sizzling cast iron too long! With the aroma of green peppers, mushrooms and onions which are my fav add-ons btw! , I had to indulge! Not a bite left behind! The baked potato was super soft and steaming to perfection upon arriving to the table with plenty of butter and sour cream at my request.. warm bread to pass around and a drink menu left on the table was catching my eye! I must admit the bartender was very knowledgeable and my drink was perfect! The prices are of any steakhouses and right on point. Great value! The inside of Colton's reminds me of The Big Texan in Amarillo, only on a smaller scale and a little nicer. We went at an off hour, getting there around 2:30, so the place was mostly empty. Service was good and they kept the glasses filled. The Onion Blossom was a little too well done, but still OK. The entree portions are large, so plan on taking home lunch for tomorrow. read more

My whole family wanted to eat here for our twins 20th bday! I placed an online inquiry to try to make a reservation. They called me next business day and we're polite and accommodating! When we got there they had reserved us "The Bourbon Room" We only had 9 people in our party but could have fit 20! it was No extra charge! i have paid for parties when my kids were younger and Not gotten as nice of a room or as good of service! First time visit Beer was cold. Service was good. Steak not so. Ordered a ribeye rare. First time it was brought out it was well done. Bartender even said it wasn't right. Second time it was brought out it was med to med well. Onion straws were very good. Mixed veg were not cooked or even hot. Love this place, I drive from Louisville to Colton's Bardstown passing Texas Roadhouse on the way. There are similarities between Colton's and Texas Roadhouse. They both have a Western Theme, they both have Peanuts and they both are steakhouses. Other then that to me the similarities end. Colton's has a much better atmosphere, the servers are attentive and the steaks are flavorful. I enjoy coming from Louisville to Bardstown as it is only about a 40 minute drive. Please try the Hawaiian Ribeye or even the Ribs. Their specialty is the Del Rio which has a nice seasoned flavor. Colton's has several locations in Kentucky. My two favorite are of course Bardstown and the Colton's in Radcliff right at Dixie and the Joe Prather Highway. read more

Dined there last night, ate in the bar area. Our appetizer of south western egg rolls came out quickly along with my pina colada, both were delicious. My entree of beef tips with sautéed mushrooms was uneatable. The meat was grey in color, cooked to med well, but it's like it had been microwaved, no seasoning and chewy bland flavor, the mushrooms weren't sautéed, it's like they were dumped from a can. Our server was handling the bar and her tables, very busy, she did the best she could to take care of us. The food took a while to arrive, which wasn't her fault. Went to eat dinner at Colton's this 4th of July. Arrived around 8:10, and there were probably around 12-15 total tables sat. The area we were seated in was not the main dining area, which was great. Waitress came and took our drink/food order (around 8:15 or so). That's the point the night took a turn for the worse. I ordered the Colton's "loaded" chicken with a caesar salad as a side. My girlfriend ordered the Montana burger (medium-well) with no onions, lettuce, or tomato. Our food came out around 9. Well, most of it. I only received my salad after I reminded the waitress I had never gotten it. My girlfriend's burger came out covered in onions, and was met with "can't you just pick them off?" before it was reluctantly taken back and remade. Once the burger made it's way back by around 9:15, it was just a plain cheeseburger with no BBQ sauce or bacon as it should have been dressed with, and the fries were the same from the original burger plate. Along with the burger being wrong once again, it was hockey puck well done. Before the burger came out the second time, our waitress said she was going to take it off the bill because of our wait and the order being wrong, but was on the bill nonetheless when it came. She did finally remove it from the bill, and we paid and left, making it to our 9:40 movie (which was at the theater about 1-minute away) by 9:50. So, in short, it was not a good experience. The food was mediocre at best, which is more than could be said for the service/kitchen. And despite the convenience of this being located less than 5 minutes from my home, I will not be returning. read more

Excellent service from the time we entered, where we were greeted and seated immediately, until we left. Our server Amanda was attentive and very helpful with our food allergies. Travis stopped by to make sure everything was great--and it was! I noticed the other servers checking tables that weren't theirs to make sure everyone had been served. And the food was wonderful. I had the steak and shrimp. I hate shrimp but Colton's Steakhouse has changed my mind! I love their grilled shrimp. My steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it. My husband's burger was perfect too. Same cookie cutter steak house with peanuts in a bucket, standard menu, and good service. I have eaten there about a dozen times, sometimes it's really good, other times not so much. Quality of the beef seems to vary quite a bit. The sides are always good but you take your chances when ordering the steaks, no consistency on how it's cooked, I have had to send back undercooked steaks several times. How hard is it to cook it medium? Maybe they should invest in a few meat thermometers. Always clean and the staff is superb. read more

We had a blooming onion as our appetizer. It sat in a lake of grease that you saw when you went to get a petal. I had cat fish and chips that came with tarter sauces that looked like someone licked a scoop out of the cup before bringing it to the table and a lemon that appeared to have been chewed on. The fries were greasy, cold and so flimsy, you could jump rope with them. The catfish was ok. The floors were so slick, I almost fell down and the service was very poor. I won't be back. Kinda wished that Bardstown didn't get Colton's, so they could put a better restaurant there instead. Terrible way to burn $45 bucks. read more

This is the second time I've been here, the first time was bad, (the food) but due to a family get together to celebrate the anniversary of a deceased relative, I had no choice but to come here. We had a reservation for 15 of us. They had a private room for us set to the side. Upon arrival at 7:10, we were seated the staff was nice. The air conditioner apparently was broke in the room we were in. Thermostat said 77, tried to set it to 68, but it never cooled down. Not the biggest deal in the world, but it was not pleasant. After ordering our drinks, we finally received them around 7:30. We waited twenty minutes for beers and soda for kids. Again the waiter was very nice, but the wait was absurd. We ordered three appetizers. One of them was the potato skins. After biting into one, the inside of the potato was completely black and rotten. We forgot to take a pic of it, but it was absolutely disgusting and rotted. Our Waiter offered to try and remove it off our bill, which is fine, but none the less, whoever cut the potatoes wasn't paying attention or didn't care. We ordered drinks again for a second round, also took around 15 minutes. Again waiter was courteous and nice, but his service was just extremely slow. Everyone finally received the entrees, my meal was the sirloin tips, ordered medium rare, they came out well done, and completely dry, simply awful. This restaurant experience was absolutely awful, and I would never recommend someone eating here. I worked in the restaurant business for 3 years , from the time I was 16 until 19, I worked as a waiter, I know how hard their jobs can be. The restaurant business isn't easy, it can be difficult, however there isn't an excuse to how poorly run and inefficient this establishment is operated. I hate to write a bad review, actually I've never written one for a restaurant or any business before. I was born and raised here in Bardstown, and I frequent all of the local restaurants. This place doesn't even deserve a one star. I hope that someone who can make a difference on how this place is ran reads this review. I don't want any business to fail, but I don't see how this place can continue at this rate. I hope this review is helpful, and hopefully they can put a better experience together for other patrons. Took a little while to be seated even though there weren't many people there. Once seated it took about 10 minutes until someone came to take our order. The rolls were really good and the waiter did bring those at a reasonable time. It took 30 minutes to get our food. It was ok food nothing great but wasn't bad. Overall just a very average restraint with not great service. Also the server gave attitude when asking for multiple things after our meal was brought out. Do not recommend. read more
