Mammy's was the best meal I had in my 4 day visit to the area! We came pretty late at night after a long day of bourbon tasting in the area, and we were all starving. We sat at the bar because it was still pretty packed. The place was fun - the service was a bit silly in a good way. Great cocktails. Great ambiance and decor. My bourbon-grilled pork chops were fantastic. Good cornbread. Green beans were fantastic. The fried apples were just okay - a bit on the dry side. My friend's chicken and waffles looked amazing. Another friend's ribeye looked a bit overdone to me, but he seemed to like it. I wish the souvenir store was still open when we were there (it closed at 6pm) because I would have liked to bring home a trinket or shirt. Maybe upon next visit - because I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Bardstown. Make it a priority to stop in! read more

We got here after a day of travel and waited about 30 minutes for a table. Finally got seated around 8 and they closed at 9 (on a Friday). It took a bit for our waitress to get there but we ordered a fried pickle app and drinks. Came back with drinks and we ordered food. It took an hour to get our fried pickles which by that time my children were very hangry. Then took another 20 minutes to get our food. I get being busy but that's what to long to wait with no explanation. Our server did feel bad and gave us some free pie. The food was just alright. The fried chicken was really dry, they were out of the sauce for the waffles/chicken. My boys enjoyed their country fried steak and ribeye though. read more

Stopped in on March 3rd for an early lunch with my lady friend and was seated promptly. Ambiance is trying hard to feel like a honky tonk, if maybe a little too hard. Music was too loud, and my lady friend even mentioned she has left this place before because of the music being too loud. I couldn't resist trying the KY Hot Brown as it had easily been a decade since I had one last. My lady friend struggled finding anything much on the menu which was gluten free. Even the crackers had gluten in them, so beware if you are in the GF lifestyle. The hot brown was deliciously massive and thankfully real turkey meat and not deli meat. Went for lunch. My cheeseburger looked like one of those patties you get out of the freezer from Sam's Club. I requested Swiss cheese but it looked like a slice of white American without any taste. If you are looking for the best breakfast spot in the area this is it. Great casual family dining feel. Amazing friendly service that just elevated the entire experience. Order: Fried chicken eggs benedict with home fries. Exactly what you are hoping for.... but better. The biscuits were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Chicken was perfect. Crispy exterior and juicy on the inside and covered by a delicious hollandaise sauce. Perfectly crispy home fries. The country gravy on the side was flavorful and had chunks of sausage. Highlight of the meal was meeting Mammy herself. She just brought out a freshly baked black forest Bundt cake topped with chocolate ganache and cherry sauce... She let us be the first official taste testers.. It was so so good. Everything you wanted. Rich chocolate cake and ganache balanced with the tart cherries. After a few days of visiting distilleries, I ended up in Bardstown, Ky. Yelp led me to Mammy's Kitchen and Bar. Whether you're looking for a comfortable bar to sit at or a restaurant, this is the place to go. Since I was by myself, I ended up sitting at the bar. The bar had a comfortable feel and the service was outstanding. I felt that southern hospitality almost everywhere I went. This was no exception. Taking a break from the bourbon I had been consuming for days, I went with a Gin and Tonic. You can never go wrong with a good G&T. I decided on the Chicken Fried Steak for dinner. This was a great Chicken Fried Steak covered in white gravy. You've were given plenty of options for sides and I went with the home fries and fried apples. This meal hit the spot. Maybe not the biggest of greatest Chicken Fried Steak I've had in my life, but it tasted great. I would certainly order it again. I appreciate when all the bartenders are striking up a conversation. It didn't feel forced. Though I don't mind traveling alone, it is also nice to be able to talk to others. We stopped by Mammy's Kitchen while visiting from out of town after seeing all the great reviews. We really enjoyed the cozy, country-style atmosphere inside the restaurant - you can tell it must've been quite the spot back in the day! It could use a little refresh, though, or at least some tidying up at the front to move the supplies and boxes out of sight when you first walk in. Review of BREAKFAST It's easy to find, but parking is a cluster. This is not particular to Mammy's...a lot of Bardstown parking seems to be hidden or at a premium. There are two entrances, although the one in the back is an arrow which says "Employee Entrance" By going in the "front" you walk into a storage area for the bar. It is kind of confusing, but eventually, you get to the dining room. I'm sure this is a a quaint and quirky tidbit that the locals claim. We were greeted by our server who abided our presence with something just shy of interest. Not rude, but ...indifferent. She got our drinks promptly. Although I ordered hot tea and received a cup of hot water with the bag already in it, which is fine...but there was nowhere to deposit the bag for further use. I ended up rolling it onto the soup spoon and resting it on the table top. We ordered and food was prompt. My husband's Western Omelette was full of great sausage, ham and bacon. He also enjoyed the home fries and toast. I had Eggs Benedict and they were quite good. The bacon was thin but cooked well. Our friend ordered a blueberry muffin. It appeared to be from a wholesale club, and was nothing special. She asked for butter and the server questioned the request. Friend confimed she indeed, wanted butter, and it was delivered. When another server stpped and struck up a conversation, our own server seemed to perk up a bit. Again, she was never blatantly rude -- just had better things to do??? Place wsa clean, and there was a nice, covered patio that I'm sure is very popular in the evenings when it isn't 900 degrees with 107% humidity. Somewhat oddly arranged. Food was good. I've been to Mammy's several times and really enjoyed it, but tonight was different. We arrived at 7:30pm and we were seated by 8:00. The waitress took our order at 8:15. It was chicken fried steak (the special), chicken and waffles, and a steak sandwich. By 9:15, we still hadn't received our order. The waitress came by and apologized, bringing us 2 pieces of cornbread. There were 3 of us at the table and my order was supposed to come with cornbread. After an hour, I glanced over and saw our waitress playing checkers with two other people by the hostess stand. When the order finally came out at 9:36, my plate didn't have cornbread. My son's chicken was so overcooked, it was black and dry. My son who will eat anything said he couldn't choke it down. I hesitated to say anything since it took so long to get our order, but I pointed it out to the waitress. She agreed that it looked terrible and offered to take it off our bill. It was supposed to come with a Thelma sauce that was also absent. When she came back, she said that she took off the chicken, but still charged us for the sides since they looked like they were okay. Fair, but tacky to still charge $12 for two small sides. In the time we were there, we saw groups get seated, order, get their food, finish their meals, and leave before we received our food. The waitress said that the kitchen was just extremely slow, but by the time we got our food, we were one of 3 tables in the entire restaurant with people at it. I'm pretty sure she forgot to submit our order. Mistakes happen...just own it. I always try to support local businesses and it pains me to write this review, but I won't be going back to Mammy's and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

Hubby and I were in Kentucky for a motorcycle event and we stayed in Bardstown known for distilleries and the famous Hot Brown named for the Brown hotel in Louisville. Accordion the locals the best Hot Brown around town (see what I did there!) was at Mammy's. Since we've been eating hearty over the last few days we decided to split a Hot brown. Great decision because the portion size is pretty large. Think Texas toast with shaved turkey, ham covered with a secret hot brown sauce and topped with tomato and bacon! The flavor combinations were delicious although the ham was a tad bit salty. So I'd recommend having some water afterwards. For dessert we had the delicious lemon meringue pie that had the right amount of tartness and wasn't too sweet. Well done! Our waitress was friendly and answered our questions about meal choices with ease. The decor was reminiscent of an old country store with trendy touches of neon here and there. If you're in town I'd recommend visiting Mammy's in the bourbon capital of the world. read more

We finally got to eat at Mammy's after trying on three different trips to Kentucky. The bourbon selection was excellent and well priced. The food is exactly what you'd expect. Fine dining? No. Absolutely delicious? Absolutely yes. Abby and Karis always take great care of us at the bar and was attentive to everything we needed, even before we could ask. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays which made the ambiance so so fun. Plus I had a hard time not ringing the "ring for drinks" bell all night. A friend recommended this place as he ate here before, and it was wonderful. My husband got the KY Hot Brown which was amazing! Our friends got the KY Mafia Burger and grilled chicken breast which also was delicious ! Only slightly disappointed in the Chicken fried steak as it was not house made, but from a box, still good. There's a replica of the owner's childhood porch and the menus are a charming newspaper style. Service was quite friendly and accommodating. The young lady was attentive to our needs and even split the pie for us without asking. The food was pretty solid, with portions being very large especially the Hot Brown. The highlight for us was the fried pickles, we could've kept going on those! The pie was good but got a little too sweet for our liking after a while. Waitress was very nice, but we never got to try the food. We ordered drinks and one meal to split (just needed something to hold us over for a bit), waited at least 45 minutes (I know that timing from a text I had sent after already waiting a while) We think it was close to an hour, but will go with 45 minutes to be conservative. We still didn't have food. We had other reservations and a schedule to stick to. We asked for the check as we didn't have time to keep waiting. The waitress explained we'd need to pay for the meal. We said "not a problem... we just need to go." We live too far away to travel with it, but offered maybe they could box it up for one of the guests sitting near us. The waitress was still nice, but Mammy (the owner according to our waitress) appeared from the back, and was horrible. She literally yelled at us and said "We don't do that!" Then proceeded to yell that we weren't at a McDonald's and that we would wait longer than 45 minutes at Chick-fil-a." She was very rude and hateful. I kept telling her we were paying for the food, we just couldn't stay to eat it. Didn't matter. She kept yelling. We were trying to just pay and head out (would have had zero reason to leave a review), but she made sure to make a big scene (warrants a review). We paid, even left a tip for the waitress. I don't know what Mammy's problem is... I have no idea why she cares what we do with food we paid for. I hear the food is good. Unfortunately we don't know. Leave PLENTY of time though... and extra hour or so over what you expect. We got there a little before 2:00... not a terribly busy time for most restaurants. I will also add.... As we waited, we heard one bartender announce she was pouring herself a beer and "getting the f$%# out of here." She proceeded to pour a large to-go cup with beer, clocked out, and left.
