She also had the audacity to try to gaslight me when I relayed a conversation I had with her staff and she repeatedly insisted that the things I told her never happened. I asked the staff to run every test possible on all four of my dogs, then called back later and found out they hadn't included a heartworm test in the bloodwork we sent off, so I had to tell them to add that. 10 days later I noticed two of them had unhealthy stool and sent samples to the lab at A&M, where they all tested positive for hookworms -- so evidently they didn't do a fecal test either. I understand mistakes due to miscommunication or organizational error, but the staff was overtly unhelpful every time I called, and Helen told me blatant lies every time we talked.

Advice found after searching online was to consult my veterinarian. Not knowing who their vet was, I called the closest one, and Dr. Sladek answered my call. In a panic, all I said was that my puppy had swallowed a desiccant packet and I didn't know what to do--I didn't even identify myself, and he had no way of knowing who I was. He calmly advised me what to do and assured me that she likely didn't ingest enough to do her any real harm. He told me what signs to be on the lookout for over the next 24 hrs should the treatment not be enough. Well, puppy probably wondered what all the fuss was about because, after following Dr. S's treatment advice, she showed no signs of distress and is doing just fine. Thanks to Dr. Sladek for forwarding his clinic calls to his cell phone after hours, and for being so kind as to help a complete stranger.
