Receptionist accused us of trying to get a free room before explaining to her we had earned two free nights but refused to honor them for us. The hotel is situated conveniently downtown, and it appears as though they converted an old mill into the hotel which makes the place pretty cool and unique. Parking was free as well, which for a downtown hotel is unusual but Columbus is somewhat small and the downtown area was not very lively for a weekend. Now the reason for the two stars - our room had an AC problem which is a pretty big problem as most know the relentless July heat in Georgia. I called the front desk and they sent a tech to check out the problem. After taking off the cover and 5 minutes of fiddling he said its fixed. In reality is wasn't, that night I tossed all night because it was about 80 in the room. The next day they switched the room which was a pain to pack everything up but atleast the problem was solved. I basically had to talk them into switching the room though since they seemed to be against it at first. Oh, and I have stayed at hotels a third of the price of this place that have free Wi-Fi. This place charges $4.95 for two hours or $9.95 for 24 hrs for internet. What a joke. read more

This hotel is so beautiful and the people are so kind. Three friends and I were staying in town for a conference and we had a few hiccups along the way, but the staff at this hotel made the experience so much better. When we arrived, we checked in to our room (thinking we were getting two double beds for 4 people) and entered a room with 1 king bed which was obviously a mistake. We went down to reception and they gave us a new room with the correct amount of beds immediately. We also spent a couple nights eating/drinking at the restaurant they have inside the hotel called Houlihan's. All of the food and service was great and again kind. We also spent some time in the hotel lobby where they have a small menu and drinks area open on weekdays called Five.Ten.Twenty. The waiter was fantastic at his job, kind and knew how to sell us the food. We ate so much and everything was delicious!! Finally, we checked out around 5am a few days later, took the shuttle from the hotel to the airport and, unfortunately, we reached the airport realizing that we had left a bunch of posters we had bought in our hotel room. The driver of the shuttle said he would go back to the hotel, find the posters and ship them to us. We received them 5 days later in perfect condition. This hotel knows how to make a girl feel special! 5 stars!! read more

We stayed here 2 nights, as we had a family member getting married and the reception was across the street at the Iron works. What a great hotel! The staff were fantastic, especially bellman Reggie! He is a delight! I would stay in this hotel again just to see Reggie! But the rest of the staff was great too! When we checked in, I warned them I had a 1 year old who cried, and they might want to put us far away from other people, and they gave us this great corner room way at the end of the hall that was perfect! The hotel lobby is beautiful! The wifi worked great our whole stay, the beds were comfortable. The shower had good water pressure which I enjoyed. The restaurant on the main level, Houlihans had a nice breakfast buffet in the mornings for around $14/per adult which I thought was fairly reasonable given the offerings. There was also a great little coffee shop that made great mocha's! Parking was free and plentiful during our stay. Overall this hotel exceeded our expectations and while I don't know if we will have very many opportunities to return to Columbus, I would without a doubt have no issues staying here at the Columbus Marriott again! read more

Spent one night in this hotel. The exterior and lobby are attractive. When checking in, I was informed I would have a room with two double beds instead of the king bed I had reserved, but the desk clerk was able to fix that. I had also requested a "high floor room," which I received (5th floor). The room itself was kind of small. There was a large window overlooking the outskirts of Columbus. A lot of the furniture was banged up. The bathroom was also very small, and only had the bare minimum amount of towels for two people. My main complaint with this place was the noise: we had a door connecting our room to our neighbors' room, and we could hear every word they were saying (or yelling!). The neighbors were making a considerable amount of noise very late at night, and we called the front desk about it, but they didn't offer any help. When checking out we mentioned the noise, but weren't provided any remedies. The hotel is within walking distance to a lot of attractions in uptown Columbus, like the River Walk and several restaurants. There is no complimentary breakfast, so we decided to go out instead of paying the ridiculous ($10+) price for breakfast at the built-in Houlihan's restaurant. All things considered, you're probably better off staying at a cheaper hotel in the area. You're just paying for the location at this Mariott. Walls are paper thin and the layout is such that the person in the room next to you has the tv against the wall where your bed is. Suffice to say I listened to my neighbors television late into the night right nextto my head..... Top that off with less than friendly staff and it makes for not a great stay....... read more

I too am living here for about six more weeks. I like the rooms a lot, the beds are reeeeaaalllllllyyyyyyyy comfy. The staff here is very pleasant, and the decor overall is cool. It's an old mill from what I understand, which is neat. The lighting is a bit dim, which can make putting on make up a bit of a challenge when half asleep! I'll be back here a lot, hoping to check out the gym and all that fun stuff some time soon. read more

The staff at this hotel is amazing and made us feel at home while escaping hurricane Irma from Miami. We had only booked 2 nights not knowing what would happen. We ended up staying 5 nights not being able to return during the aftermath. Not only did they make everything possible to find us extended stay for 3 rooms, even though they and every other hotel in the neighboring states were completely booked, but they worked to give us discounts whenever they could, to help relived the stress from the situation. Checked into this hotel 12/9. Here for my sons graduation from basic training at Ft Benning. First this hotel is beautiful its a historical building from the Civil War. The staff is extremely friendly, every staff member I ran into had a smile and a greeting. Our room was very clean and comfortable. I only have two grips....room service- one night it too an hour to get chips and salsa and wings. Second the restaurant in the hotel very bad service and over priced. I went down for happy hour and the hostess said happy hour was over....it had actually just began....fortunately I asked the hotel staff about it and I was right the happy hour had just started. So our stay at this Columbus Marriott was anything but pleasant. I booked it the night before because we needed a place to change for a funeral visitation of a good friends death and spend the night for the funeral. Upon our arrival at checkin we were greeted nice, I asked for a bell person all went well until we got to the room. Bell person left and the room was freezing. 50's in room 60 outside. Turns out heater was broken. It was 4pm we needed to shower and change for 5:30 viewing . Called front desk sounds like she knew it was broken but said she'd call mechanic. Second call to her after 30 min mech final came up. Yep heater broken. We left Unshowered and came back to heater working. Yea. Sheets especially pillows smelled like they had previous customers perfume and not been changed, hair ball in bathroom under vanity Luke warm shower and window shears were Torn, obvious rip anyone could see. My point describing all this is it was not by any means a $190 plus with all the services and taxes. We have family and friends in Columbus but probably won't stay there again. Oh and at 5pm and 5 am train whistle rocked the building. read more

This is a gorgeous Marriott located in a factory that was converted into a hotel. It's conveniently located in the heart of Columbus. The rooms were all recently renovated and there is ample parking in the back lot. If I need to be back in the Columbus area, I will certainly return. read more

Reservation was supposed to be on concierge level but it wasn't "available" when I checked in. Room was worn with musty smell. Bed was clean and comfortable. Management did not give a dam and found excuses for the lazy service. Be very much aware and look out for their horrible service. Amazing doesn't really seem to cover it, but that's what this hotel is; I am in love with its beautiful character and history. First, the location is perfection if you are looking to be near the college or the riverfront or all the shops in downtown - all are just steps away; you won't need a car. The visitor center is very conveniently located right across the street. I'll start simple then go into more detail for those interested in my opinion (I can be VERY wordy). Bottom line, short version: The hotel is clean, comfortable, friendly, beautiful, charming, full of history dating back to the Civil War, luxurious (it is definitely a luxury hotel). The delightful lady at check-in was wonderful. My room had 2 beds and a large picture window overlooking the back. There was plenty of space, and the room had a frig, work desk, plenty of outlets, was super-clean and had VERY comfortable beds (great pillows!), and the bathroom was spotless and filled with high-end shampoos, soaps, etc. The bathroom was small, but very functional. There's a very large, outdoor pool area, but I didn't use it - it was pretty, though. If that's enough of a review, stop reading. PARKING: I mention this because I was curious about it and the website isn't clear. You can valet park (at a cost). Or, there is a HUGE parking lot right out the back door of the hotel (on site). I would assume the parking lot is free because I was not charged for it, nor did they even ask if I had a car. It is SO unusual to find a downtown hotel with a large self-parking lot, so I liked that aspect of it. After you exit your car, you can walk right into the back of the hotel. The area seemed safe to me, we walked around at night and had no issues. Now, about the character of this hotel. BE SURE to pay attention to what this place once was and how beautiful its history is. It was an old mill, and they even have several of the original millstones sitting around the property. One is in the front, and there are several in the back in the parking lot - be sure to see them. The inside is simply gorgeous. The old red brick is all over the place, and the ceilings are something out of an art museum; the floor is equally fantastic. Even the Starbucks in the lobby is gorgeous. I took so much time looking around and enjoying the historic beauty of this building. The outside just looks like a typical huge southern red brick building and might not be everyone's cup of tea, but once you enter, you are consumed by the beauty of the building; I definitely appreciate character. Part of Columbus' beauty is they have left the historic buildings as they once were. I loved that. When you exit the lobby, you can take a 5 minute walk over to the riverfront (also filled with history). A quick walk across the bridge gets you into Alabama. Walking along the riverfront in the morning is wonderful. You can also stroll down the street and come across every type of restaurant, coffee shop, brewery, etc. Again, the location is excellent. Oh, I will mention one thing - neither positive or negative; it is what it is. There is a train track in front of the hotel. When we were walking around town, we heard it. I didn't pay much attention to it, but I did hear it in my room one night, I don't remember the time. I live near a train track so I don't care. In fact, I love trains. So, if that is an issue for anyone, I wanted to advise you of it. I only heard it once (not loud) while I was in the room, but it wasn't a bother at all. But, the track is there - right in front of the hotel. MUST SEES: 1) definitely walk along the riverfront and look at the cool buildings dating back to the 1800s. 2) go to the "Iron Bank" Coffee Shop - SO cool. They have a little area that was once a bank vault where you can sit and have your coffee. 3) Walk out of the back of the hotel and go to the left and stroll up the street. On that street, you will find the MOST AMAZING historic homes you have ever seen - there are Victorian, Craftsmens, and every one is different - pure southern charm. They are beautifully restored and it's a nice walk along a brick street. So, guess you can see I loved this hotel. I am normally a Fairfield Inn kind of girl (simple and clean), but when I can splurge and get a place like this, I very much enjoy it. We checked out Sunday but first ate the breakfast buffet which was delicious. As I was waiting on my husband to get the car a lady came up and offered me water and asked me how my stay was. This is a pretty standard Marriott property. The building itself is beautiful, it is right on the Chattahoochee River and you can walk to Alabama in a few minutes. The proerty has a restaurant and bar attached that was ok. The rooms are pretty dated as far as decor but the beds were super comfortable. If you are going to stay here bring ear plugs! The train tracks out front are not for a cute trolley they are for a freight train that rolled through right around 3:45 AM everyday I was there. read more

Loved this hotel. It was classy but inexpensive, and they provide military discounts. Not only that, but I was unable to get the military discount online for the second day out of the two we stayed. I was ok with that, but when I got to the hotel, the person at the front desk gave me the discount for the second day as well, which was a significant price discount! The area is perfect; it is within walking distance of alot of little shops along Broadway, the Coca Cola Science museum, and of course the Riverwalk. I parked my car at the hotel when we arrived and didn't move it until we left two days later. We rented bikes from place on Broadway and spend the day on the Riverwalk. We also dined in the Hoolihan's restaurant, which was decent. They were swamped that day for whatever reason, so we waited a tad bit long for out food, but they were profusely apologetic and offered us a free dessert. The hotel itself is a neat relic. It is renovated from an old building, and much of the old brick is still intact. The old-style architecture is really neat; there is quite alot of it nearby as well. It's not a "5-Star" hotel in the sense that the floors are gilded and the chandeliers are diamond, but it's 5-star in my book for the service, the quality and the location. We did not get enough time in Columbus GA to see all of the National Infantry museum and the Naval Civil War museum, so we will definitely be returning and when we do, I plan to stay here again! read more

I recently lost my credit card while staying at the Columbus Marriott in Georgia. The staff was so helpful in my search. Waitresses, doormen, management, front desk staff, the young lady in the Grist Mill coffee shop and others all searched high and low. The second shift manager called my cell phone and kept me up to date on their findings. I have never had so many people take a genuine interest in helping out one person. It was truly amazing to see their helpful nature come through everywhere I turned. Thank you to all the team at the Columbus Marriott. This is a great hotel! From our initial greeting by Earnest the doorman (one of the most friendly personable people we've ever met) to the entire rest of the staff - everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating. We attended an Army graduation for our youngest at Fort Benning. Upon our arrival, they happily stored luggage, provided an early check in, and a late checkout on departure day. A dozen or so restaurants are with two blocks, and the food and staff at the onsite restaurant Houlihan's was great and convenient as well. It's probably a three star facility overall, but the staff and cleanliness of room makes it seem like a 5 star. Great overall value! read more

Wonderful, friendly staff in a beautifully re-designed building. This is one of the best Marriotts we've ever stayed in, including many nice JW Marriott's. While the JW in Austin for example has more amenities, bustling lobby restaurants and bar etc., this one was charming and relaxing. The brunch at Houlihan's was a great bonus as well. At first I thought Houlihan's might be the typical chain food, but after eating their eggs and grits, this foodie was completely won over. Wonderful friendly service as well. read more

Very disappointed with our recent stay. At almost $200 per night I expect more, especially from Marriott. First at check in, we were not allowed to use a cart for our belongings & told we'd have to wait or carry them ourselves. The elevators were broken. Only one worked but it would skip our floor & we had to ride up & down until it happened to land on our floor. When we asked an employee where the stairs were she said they didn't have any. Which is absurd. Our room had no drinking water available so had to go to front desk to ask for some. The room was ok & A/C worked but in the middle of the night, from about midnight to 3 a.m. there were drunken, idiot girls running around screaming and slamming doors that hotel management did nothing about. Apparently one of the guests went out there and told them to be quiet. When we advised the staff the following morning she was unsympathetic and offered nothing but, well, they were fully booked and had a lot of guests. There is no excuse for allowing that sort of behavior to occur. They also offer no free breakfast. Again, for $200 night I expect more. The rooms are nice but not $200 a night nice. Also, train goes through town in the middle of the night blaring the horn. I know that has nothing to do with the hotel but FYI. The whole experience left us tired and disappointed. Unless you get a big discount this hotel is very overrated & overpriced. read more

Loved its location on the river in Uptown Columbus. Enjoyed dinner at Houlihan's, the hotel's restaurant. Loved the friendly staff. But this place needs to be updated. And it has serious water problems. When we went to the room, I noticed smell of mildew, but it seemed mild. During the night, it intensified. The air conditioner could not cool the room (and we are here in December!). But the worst was that when it rained, the water came through the windows and puddled on the window sills (along with a couple of drowned bugs). I guess that explains the mildew smell. I think it is overpriced: $169 for a Tuesday night in Columbus, Ga., when nothing else was going on. And they do not give a discount for AARP members. read more
