I needed a cobbler cause I'm trying to do more adulting and not just throw things away if they're not 100%. I like my boots and wanted to resole them. Columbus came up as the best cobbler in the area, so off I went. Is $85 a lot to resole boots? I don't know, but I figured, let me try cause this is the first time I've ever done this. I go here all the time and finally wrote a review. This place is great! They are very good at what they do and they're also very friendly. I just got some lug sole boots repaired. It wasn't super-cheap (because of the lug soles) but it was reasonable--and these are boots that were originally quite expensive. I didn't want to just get rid of them and I didn't have to, even though these boots were trashed with a big split in the sole. I've gotten many things repaired here and they always do an excellent job. If you need new holes punched in a belt or shoe strap, they will do it right there and it's very cheap. read more

I didn't even know Columbus shoe repair was the name of this place. Photos included. Just a filthy cracked up sign that says "center service shoe repair". My issue is the customer service. They run this place like they're doing you a favor. They get too busy to answer the phone and while they have decent prices and do decent work I never feel valued as a paying customer. I was told a resole and a heel grip would be 20$ and I needed to leave half. I left 10 dollars. When I returned I didn't have my ticket and he charged me 20$ to pick them up. He said he remembered very clearly the job was 30- I said if it was 30 I would have left 15 as the 50% deposit. Then he tried to say the young worker was "still learning". But no apology just an attitude. Always an attitude. Everytime I come in his first response is "it can't be done" or "it won't come out well"- no matter what I bring. I've been coming for years and I paid it cause 10 dollars vs 20 dollars isn't gonna change my life but he lost a customer today over that. Now that I'm actually looking at the shoes to take pictures the work is pretty sloppy. I know everyone is desperate for money and that's what people come to America to make but that's not how you do business. read more

These are expensive boots and my go-to shoes when it's raining in New York. I can traipse around in them all day, walk through any puddle and my toes stay dry. A couple of years ago, I bought a pair of water-proof leather boots that cost me $150. Because they were so special to me, I seldom wore them -- I wanted to make these boots last forever...until December. One very wonderful evening in December, I took off my boots at the doctor's office and tried to put them back on and zip them up, but they wouldn't! This led to a really awkward trip home since my boot wouldn't zip up. My sister then told me about this wonderful little mom and pop shop in Jackson Heights that would treat my beloved boot very well. I went here yesterday (a Friday at around 5 PM) and showed the guy what had happened to my favorite boot. "Don't worry", he said in Spanish, "I can fix it... and if not, I'll just change the zipper. Come back tomorrow!" I was SO happy. Because it is a zipper, the fix cost me $20, but the boot looks as good as new. There is no longer anything stuck inside the zipper and it actually looks a lot better than my other (non-broken) boot. I have no idea why these guys have no reviews, but they deserve plenty... and they should all be awesome! read more

My favorite fall boots were in dire need of repair. These leather riding boots that I had purchased several years ago from Banana Republic, and have pretty much worn into the ground, had a missing heel bed? (not exactly sure what it is called) - that needed to be replaced. I heard about a shoe repair shop in Rego Park that I had considered, but learned that they were, a) soon going out of business, and b) a little expensive. Thankfully I found this place through a Yelp search, and decided to give it a shot and felt comfortable doing so with such great reviews. I called ahead and asked for a rough estimate, and when I brought the boots in, they stood by their initial phone assessment. I decided to replace both heels, so they would be even, and they also threw in a shoe shine because like I said, I wore these things pretty much into the ground and didn't take great care of it. Replacing the boots wasn't an option for me because the exact color of the boots (camel) is hard to find, and to be honest, I don't need/want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new pair of leather boots, when I got these puppies repaired and shined for a surprisingly, extremely, reasonable price (under $15)!! This is a little nearby gem for anyone living in the area and likes to keep their more expensive and durable footwear lasting longer than the sole. I had two pairs of military 3 layer construction sole boots resoled here. Both were worn through into the midsole and probably even damaged it. So I got a full resole with genuine Vibram soles for a pretty decent price of $60 each and they even shined up my black pair and cleaned what they can on my tan suede pair. The job was/is great the soles are on seamlessly and have had no separation at all so far or any type of "wonkiness" to them. On the staff they're nice and informative but to the point and will help you out if they can. Overall I'm very pleased and will probably be using this place unless it's no longer geographically practical to get here. read more
