I was scheduled to have my propane energized for this a.m. at eight. The service was confirmed and when no one showed I called and was told I needed to pay first and my card was declined. I paid months ago $168 and for what I understand that payment was applied to something else as I had not used "enough propane" . this is not good service. The service technician was Brian. He did a good job, fixed the problem with the first diagnosis, that made me very happy. He also was polite, and answered all of my questions, I am a first-time homeowner and had many questions about my oil burner. He answered them all. The only thing was, I went down the hill and caught him peeing in my blueberry bush. I think this is so disrespectful--to assume that you have ownership of a territory that warrants you to pee on it. He didn't buy the house, doesn't pay the taxes, he doesn't own the bush. It is unprofessional. I am grateful for the work he did, but really discouraged by this. Letter sent to the owner of CES: ---- Michael, As a business owner myself, I thought you would like to hear about my recent experience with Combined Energy Services. I switched over from oil to propane a few years ago and been purchasing gas from your company ever since. I am under a contract with a minimum purchase amount which I have met every previous year. This week, just as I was about to schedule a delivery as I always do in the fall, I noticed a $171 charge on my account due to not meeting my minimum. I called customer service to let them know that if I knew about this upcoming charge I would have refilled my tanks just a few days earlier in order to meet my minimum. Even though your customer service agent agreed with me that there should have been a notification of this upcoming charge, they are unwilling to reverse the charge, or credit it towards a delivery. I understand I have a contract locking me in with a specific minimum but better communication about upcoming charges would have avoided this situation. In these tough economic times and high gas prices I try to be conservative about my gas consumption while still meeting the required minimum, but there isn't a way to actually know where I stand with this minimum at any given time. I hope you will use this feedback to add better billing notifications to your systems and make sure your customers don't get surprise bills. I decided to move away from Combined Energy and use Paraco Gas. They do not have minimums which will help my budget and the environment at the same time. read more

I notified Mike in Kerhonkson a week before I was running out of Propane. I was promised delivery the next day. We had a streak of bad weather. Had my drive plowed but not good enough for their driver. Left a note in my mail-box.Had driveway plowed again. Mike said I was again on the schedule for the next day. Bought my property a year ago June 20th. Set up service with CES on June 22nd bc that's what the former owners used. They charged me entirely too much just to come out and fill up the up the propane tank that is theirs that was already sitting here. I got VEO to bring me a filled new tank for $450. CES charged me $549 just to fill the tank. The 2nd time a supposed oil delivery happened it disappeared in a month when I was only in my property twice and my contractor twice. I had that temp set down to 50 so the pipes wouldn't freeze. The mysterious disappearing oil. It didn't happen before that with my 1st delivery of oil from CES and it hasn't happened since I switched companies. I question the validity of CES actually delivering the amount of oil I was charged for. Today I went ahead and changed propane to VEO since CES decided to charge me a $117 equipment usage fee for the propane tank on June 1st. That's weird and insulting considering I didn't even own the property until June 20th a year ago and set up an account June 22nd a year ago. I was given this lame reason that billing is on the 1st of the month. Ok cool but I didn't own the property then nor did I have an account then. I could understand if I was billed for this on July 1st. So anyway, I called CES today and told them to come get their tank and of course they're charging me $63 for that as well. No Customer Service efforts at all from Combined Energy in Monticello, NY! Salesperson told me they would fill my propane tanks end of November and would last throughout the winter. Well after many calls and constant aggravation they finally filled the tanks on Jan 6th and charged me an additional $95.00 because the tanks only took 110 gallons instead of the 140 gallons Combined wanted as a minimum. I have cameras on the house and the delivery guy was there for 4 Minutes! $95.00 extra for a 4 minute job. What a rip off. Oh and when I asked to speak with a manager about the rip off i was told "there is no manager here". What a horrible business model..... read more

What an insult to their very customers, I just got a $200 surcharge for NOT ORDERING ENOUGH PROPANE this past winter, though we actually needed a delivery. Think they would refund that surcharge and just charge us for the already 20% more expensive propane? NOPE. On top of that they have the nerve to charge a $75 surcharge for ordering LESS than a full tank, even though I can't afford a full tank because, I"M PAYING A SURCHARGE FOR NOT ORDERING ENOUGH. My house is half electricity and half propane, so not sure how I can increase my consumption without incurring this fee. But goes to show how they feel about their customers, JUST MONEY MONEY MONEY, not anyone's well-being during a pandemic AND now war . Then I asked can I at least finance? NOPE. Very disappointed in this family owned business as with many companies it has become all about the money not the loyalty of the customers . We have been with CES for 20 years in October when we first bought our home we have a small tank that is only used for cooking gas . We get one delivery a year which is about 70.00 . Apparently it is not worth them coming to refill when in our area it takes approximately 15 min to come up driveway fill tank and leave not needing to return for 11 months or more. We received a letter that they are coming to pick up the tank and we need to pay for the new replacement tank and maintain ourselves. It's what's happening to many businesses that forget there loyal customers who pay there bills and helped them grow into a prominent business. read more

I have been with this company for 2 21/2 years now. Up until this point I have had no issues what so ever. However, if you are Looking for good customer service, you DO NOT want to deal with a Bernadette! I am a monthly budget customer and have my payments auto deducted from my account. The company was having issues with their budgeting system from May 2021 until until August of 2021. They were not taking payments during that time, and then took the monthly payments for May-August at the beginning of August. I have no issues with that. However, come September, the auto payments started again, and someone from their payment department, did not manually change my monthly payment back to what it should have been. So therefore, I was charged for another 4 months. I called and spoke with Bernadette the first time, and she told me that the only way to issue a refund was though a paper check that was cut every 2 weeks from the company they use to take the debit payments. At this point, I then politely asked how this money could get back to be sooner because they took 4 months worth of payments when they should have only taken 1. She told me they could credit it back to a card if it was linked to a bank account. This was a Thursday when I spoke to her. I asked her to please call me the next day so I can give her the information to credit my account back so I didn't have to wait 2 weeks for the check to be cut and then another 2 weeks for it to arrive to my home. She said no problem, and we hung up. Fast forward to Friday. She did not call me to get my information, and then when I called on Friday evening after I got out of work, I was told she was gone for the weekend. At this point, I am rather irritated because this is not a small sum of money that they have of mine. Now it is Monday, and she called in the morning, but I did not get the message until I was just leaving work. Bernadette then called me back in the evening, and told me that someone spoke to my husband and my husband said to put the money back on his credit card. My husband did not ever speak to anyone at Combined about this. I was then told by Bernadette a check would have been cut today but because I didn't call back she had the check stopped and didn't issue a refund so it would be another 2 weeks before a check was cut. Then she said she would see if she could have someone cut a check tomorrow, but I don't know how she is planning to do that because she also told me she would be out due to having surgery. Clearly, I was annoyed because this issue with a refund that had nothing to do with my short coming, has not been resolved. On top of that to lie and say that my husband called, is just unacceptable. When I told her this needed to be resolved and "she" did this I was met with "I didn't personally do this". No, you are right, but your company did and I have asked multiple Times this be fixed sooner rather than later due to the amount of money. The conversation got heated and escalated, and I still have no resolution to this, because she yelled over me "have a good night" and hung up on me. When my husband called back, and spoke to Liz, Liz said there was a note in the system saying a refund check was issued this week. So is there a refund check or isn't there? If you want a company to take the correct amount of money from you monthly, and give you good customer service, this is not the place for you. read more

I only have a small portable heater and don't use much propane. This year especially sidetracked and not paying attention to usage I didn't keep a close eye on my gauge. Seems I didn't use enough propane to meet my minimum and received an invoice from Combined for $126.14 for this oversight. They don't waive this fee. They don't have much compassion about taking money for nothing because it's there "rule". I was preoccupied this winter. I was diagnosed with cancer in several places. Not curable but we can try to contain it. I have treatment daily and see doc once a month. My husband was put in a nursing home due to onset dementia and other health issues. He's in no position to be my emotional support so I'm dealing will all on my own. I had to pay for 4 days of his stay when his insurance ran out for $3000 and $2000 for the transport to move him to another location 2 hours away. In between all of this we had two snow storms I had to contend with and try to keep it warm. I will pay Combined their $126.14 for absolutely nothing but it's a shame that they have to take money from someone who is in need because I was 16 days late to get a delivery to cover my minimum. This is probably the most ridiculous thing I've heard of from a company. CES sent me an invoice stating that because I haven't used enough propane this year, I'm being charged a fee. Can you believe that? My family and I try to save money by keeping our home at 68° the entire winter and we cook everyday. However, because we used 181.6 gallons and their minimum is 300 gallons, we have to pay $171.72. Why am I being punished for having a small, well insulated, energy efficient home? 1st Delivery - Driver Immediately Complained about my driveway and said it would be a problem come winter.... Understandable , its a steep driveway. Figured I'd do my best to schedule when theres now snow or ice on it. 2nd attempt at a delivery - Waited till 445pm on delivery day , called , customer service rep put me on hold till phone disconnected. I had to call back to be told the truck was back at their yard , driver gone , and apologized for me not getting my oil. Remedy was to "try and get someone out to me tomorrow" "but normal delivery days in my area are Thursdays". I explained I had a 3 & 5yr old in the house and temperatures dropping below 30's at night was trying not to use heat because dangerously low. on top of that had a technician schedule to inspect the power vent that was continuously on and he was waiting until after fuel delivered. that is was unacceptable because I called the friday before and already waited a week. Nothing was done accept apologize and state they'll "try" to get someone out tomorrow. If I wasn't less than 1/8th of a tank I would cancel but I'll take my last delivery and find someone else that's reliable. read more

However, you fail to comment on all of the other issues raised about your company and the inconsistent responses that I received from your company regarding the delivery. Everything that I have stated in my negative review was true and not fabricated or embellished in any form. I was told initially that the delivery would be early the next week, yet I had to call on Tuesday, Wed and Thursday evening to inquire WHY it was not delivered, and each time I was told something different. Your company has blatantly lied about being at my house on Monday (holiday) - let me remind you that we were home all day and no-one from your company pulled into the driveway, let alone knocked on the door. I was not told initially that it was required to have a test completed - why? Why was I told by one rep that the manager had left for the day, but when I called the next morning (Friday) I was told by another rep that you do not have managers? Which is it? Which one lied? And wow - you sure came out super-fast within hours to pick up the empty tank when I closed my account of Friday! But you were too slammed to actually make a delivery? Why am I being treated like shit because I was not on auto delivery? Does that make me less important - This is how you treat a customer that was with you for over 10 years? You really stress that automatic delivery option - is that to avoid people calling into your company and realizing how unethical you are? And since you were so kind to give me advice in your response to my review, let me do the same for you. Stop lying to customers, train your staff of have consistent answers, and don't treat your customers like garbage, give them a little respect. The negative review could have all been avoided if I had received a phone call saying "I know we told you the delivery would be early this week, but we are backlogged" I also want to thank you for your callous response that you, by your own admission, posted online. I have had CES for close to 20 years with no problem. Recently I was informed that they would no longer fill the upright 50 lb. tank I was using for cooking. I would have to upgrade to a larger 120 lb. OK did that. Then come to find out, I did not meet the minimum usage amount (150 gals.) this new required tank, and got billed $96 for a minimum usage fee. In a year I only used half of the minimum usage for that tank. When I called to change companies, I was billed another $50 for them to weigh the propane in the tank. There was 64$ of unused propane left, which they kept as payment for the minimum usage fee. I found another company that has a minimum yearly requirement of $30 in propane, total. Depending on the price per gallon this equates to over a $400 minimum usage amount for a larger tank that I did not originally have or want, compared to the new company of $30. I do not recommend them at all. read more

And, when we needed a tech to help install a new stove it was easy to set up; the service technician Shain was polite, efficient and tidy (!!); and billing has been easy and convenient online. This is my fourth time calling and still the problem has not been fixed. Each time they tell me they will call me back immediately but they never do. How hard is it to schedule a gas delivery?? With the temperature plummeting to -4 degrees Fahrenheit, our furnace decided now would be a good time to give up the ghost. Cue a panicked phone call to CES (who also provide our propane) and a team was here within an hour to save the day. Polite, friendly and informative, the guys went through their defect identification and rectification with the minimum of fuss and trouble and left us very satisfied. They even had time (and the inclination) to offer some practical tips about future servicing of our system and how to avoid problems over the winter. All of which was very well received. I received a delivery on 2-6-15. On 2-14-15 I received a cert. letter stating that they would no longer deliver oil until I had an outside fill pipe installed. Combined Energy has been delivering to me for many years and this was never an issue. Suddenly there is a new driver who doesn't want to have to walk to the back of the house to make a delivery. It would be easier to deliver as is than to get to an outside fill pipe. What amazes me is that they would threaten a disabled senior with this in the middle of winter and under deadly wind chill conditions. If this is what they do to customers in good standing, think about what they would do to anybody else. At this point, after going thru several days of worry, I will find another company who will be happy to have me as a customer. read more
