VEO has to be the worse company I have ever dealt with, they were incompetent from day one. They didn't show up when they were supposed to. They installed the gas line wrong and my contractor who was remodeling the kitchen had to fix it. They were supposed to run a line to the gas grill and never did. THEY installed the gas tank next to the A/C condenser (which were there before the gas tank) then 2 years later wanted to charge us over $300.00 to move the tank. I followed Berentsen Oil when they sold to VEO. Being a long time customer and charged over 30 cents higher than anyone else is pretty sad. I've been with VEO for 5 years and just got a fill up and it was 304.9 per gallon!!! Everyone else is at 279.9-284.9. When I called, I was told "That's the price". Interesting.... I would think companies would want to play fair. This is just greedy. Usually oil companies fluctuate by pennies. I checked prices before my fill up expecting 2.79. Being with this company for so long, I didn't think I needed to be concerned about integrity. I'm disgusted. We since change oil companies. read more

We got a little cabin in Smallwood late last year, the day of the first snowstorm, so we were kinda stuck with the tank from Combined EnergyServices (CES) for our first winter. However, when I started comparing what we were being charged with receipts from the home's previous owner, the rates were higher than expected. When I called to negotiate with CES, they were uncooperative and failed to even call me back several times. No response to emails, either. Combine that with all manner of absurd policies and fees, and I had enough. Another local business, Sullivan County Septic, recommended I take a look at Van Etten Oil (VEO), so I sent an email and got a personal reply from Eli Van Etten, who quoted me a great rate for LP, along with a no-nonsense price to get a new tank installed and ready to go. I was already being treated better than CES had been so I leapt at the opportunity. On installation day, super friendly Mike showed up and put the new tank in, moved the old tank to the perfect out-of-the-way spot in the yard so it could wait for CES to pick it up, then safety checked all my gas appliances and made a couple of simple recommendations that were much appreciated. On top of everything else, they do algorithmic forecasts of your use needs so that the tank gets filled without you having to remember to call, and the price is better, even if you don't buy a ton of gas from them. VEO is an honest and community oriented company. When our furnace broke in December and no knee seemed to be able to figure out what the problem was and we had no heat, Eli volunteered to come out with his best furnace man (Mike) and fixed our furnace for free. He said he has heard we do our best to help others and he wanted to help us. He earned life long customers in us and we are forever grateful. read more

The customer service is absolutely a disgrace. Such disgusting people who shake you down for $100. My Uncle had all the mail with our last name forwarded down to North Carolina. I received one piece of mail for me to pay them in 4 months. They never tried to call or email to notify me someone is coming to my door to charge me an additional $100! For them to show up! Unreal. I said how much would it be to just take the tank away? They priced it out. I said great ill keep the tank. They then refused and said we're taking it. I asked to speak to the manager and they refused to speak to me. This company is scummy and ran by a bunch of people with attitude and I'm happy to never do business with them again. Cherry on top is when I paid my balance, they asked me if the mailing address for my card was the North Carolina address that I never provided! Having the cops at my door at 9am really was lovely. Such a waste of public resources. Avoid this company at all costs. They are idiots. read more

For the full 1-star review details go to Better Business Bureau. In August 2017 VEO booked an appointment for gas installation but they DID NOT show up and DID NOT even called. I called VEO and their representative said that she had overbooked me. They rescheduled me for 3 WEEKS LATER but I was able to reduce the waiting time to 2 WEEKS after I appealed to them that I needed warm water and cooked meals for my children. Before gas instalation VEO sent a guy to verify my oil tanks/heating system. The gentleman that arrived was VERY unprofessional. He walked inside the tank room and checked the system in my basement as he was throwing "F" bombs and "S#!T" bombs in my house. He was saying that effing "F" home inspectors do S#itty jobs when doing their inspections and implied that the house that I just bought was in S#itty condition. He gave me a quick quote of almost $3,000 so that the heating system could be apt enough in order for him to deliver oil to me. I though that if VEO has this kind of employee working for them is because they stand by him. After all, VEO website declares that their employees are more important than their clients.I stood quiet and swallowed his insult because my family needed gas. A few days later after the installation was performed by Mr. Mike and an apprentice. Mike accidentally dropped his heavy clipboard and it hit the gas line. I did not think much of it at the time and trusted VEO. About 6 weeks later the gas was GONE. I went to the tank to verify what happened. To our surprise my wife and I perceived a gas odor. I closed the gas faucet and called VEO immediately. VEO felt very uncomfortable with but agreed to check the gas leak problem the next day. The next day VEO came to my house and I welcomed them. I asked the driver to tell me how he would go about the gas leak and filling the tank before he actually did it. The driver seemed to be in a rush and became frustrated when he realized that he actually had to take some time to answer my questions. The driver gradually became more sarcastic, started smirking, and raised his voice to me. He spend a few minutes talking with VEO privately and then came to me inaccurate information about my account. At this point I was very offended at how the driver was disrespecting me in my own house. The driver put Mike on the speaker. I wanted to further tell Mike about his employee misconduct but Mike had no interest in it. Mike even challenged me to leave to another company. I responded and asked them to please fill my tank, check the gas leak and bill me because my family needed gas now. Mike fiercely accused me of being irrational and impossible to serve. I asked him again to please fill my tank, check the gas leak and to bill me because my family needed gas now but Mike was too upset. Mike used the falsely narrative that I was trying to force VEO to give me a bigger tank to refuse gas for my family. I tried to contact one of the company's owner, Mr. Eli, he did not want to speak to me. The delivery guys did not take their tank right away but later sneaked into my house without notification and without permission and took the tank. VEO was polite at first but that changed once I started asking for accountability. VEO knew that I had no experience dealing with a gas company because I told them that I had just moved Upstate from the City. I told VEO that my questions were intended to learn the process. However, VEO was not sensitive about my safety concerns and were really bothered by me when I asked them questions. I was very understanding and gave them many opportunities, but they abused my generosity. VEO miss-characterized me, misrepresented me and humiliated me. Their words do not reconcile with their actions. With their mouth they say that they are customer oriented but they had the audacity to leave my wife and children without warm water and warm cooked meals during cold weather. VEO also left me stranded with a gas leak. And at the end, I ended up paying for gas that I didn't use because there was a gas leak. read more

The AC Unit was down so we called a Company for an appointment. They said they were busy but would call back and never did. That's when we called VEO Energy Systems and spoke with the phone reception, left our number and problem and they got back to as the next day. We made an appointment they came when they said they would and did a great job in fixing the problem. Professional, Courteous, and if they say they will call back, they will. We have a propane heating system that was installed by VEO several years ago. This is a vacation home in Forestburgh, NY (Sullivan County) so we're not always here. We came up a couple of days ago and the heat was not working. We got it going again but it kept failing. Early today (Saturday), I called VEO's emergency line and got a call back right away. They promptly sent a few people, led by Mike, who have expertise on propane systems. Mike and the team looked at every piece of the system and replaced and/or cleaned several components. They got the system going again and it appears to be ok. Mike explained everything he did to me so I could understand it. He also has ordered some parts for us to keep handy so the system can be repaired quickly in case the system fails in the future during off hours. The guys couldn't have been more courteous or professional. They showed up when they said they would on a Saturday morning and stayed until they did a complete job. I am glad that you think that is exactly how it happened. When order was placed we were told that you would charge off on day of delivery. Hence - COD. We were charged as soon as we hung up. We were also given a time frame of when the driver would arrive and nothing. My husband then called to inform you guys that he had an appointment at 5:00pm and THAT'S around the time you decided to show up. When my husband called the driver he was than informed that he was just pulling into the station and would not go back out. Meanwhile, we are maybe a minute away from you. The next day my husband called and there was no type of apology or anything, but again as I mentioned, the company was extremely quick to charge off on services that were yet to be rendered. In the end, this is MY PERSONAL opinion on a site that is meant for reviews. There will always be good and bad experiences and mixed reviews. read more

Once again VEO went above and beyond. Friday March 2nd. I couldn't get my generator to run. It runs both propane and gasoline. Mike and Paul came up in the snow storm that we were having with 5 gal of gasoline just in case they were unable to get the propane end of generator working. Seems I ran battery dead on propane side. They put the gasoline they brought and got it started. Then Mike went to the nearest gas station got another 5 gal of gas and brought it up to me in the snow storm that knocked out power everywhere.
