My husband and I were in Boone NC and decided that we wanted a good burger so I looked it up and Come Back Shack was highly recommended. The biggest drawback was getting in the parking lot it was at mad house. Also a bit confusing when you get inside either scan q code on the table, use a tablet they provide or order online. It will be about a 30 minute wait for your food on Saturdays. I had fried green tomato burger and my hubby had the bacon cheddar burger both with hand cut fries and 2 drinks and the total cost $27. Every time my family goes to the mountains we HAVE to stop at comeback shack in Boone. The hand cut fries are cooked (and topped) to perfection and their chicken tenders are some of the best I've had at a restaurant. The staff is friendly with overall great service each visit. I will say the restaurant is smaller, with an outdoor patio and is usually packed. But there are also picnic tables outside that you can grab if needed! read more

Wow! Great burger, and seasoned fries were the best!!! I had a double burger with Texas toast and it one on the best burgers I've had in a long time. Thick patty, good amount of cheese and special sauce and the pickles were big and crispy!! Super busy place but online ordering was easy and we ate in the covered / heated area out back and it was nice! My son says he's eaten there at least 50 times since starting school at App State and told us we had to eat there before we left town and we were not disappointed! Wanted to try this place out tonight. Semi empty outdoor patio space with plenty of overhead heaters if needed. Ordered off QR code posted on table was different. Also lack of table side service was different for this style of restaurant, not a bad thing BUT can definitely make you feel alittle out of place. Initially shocked with the menu and its pricing. For a burger joint I had a notion of what to expect price wise and it was well above my expectations. But still I held out for the food. Order: Patty melt, with chili cheese fries, drink and milkshake. Brisket Chili burger, come back fries, drink and a milkshake 2 pretzels The fries are quite wonderful, alittle on the soggy side but still great toppings with good flavor. Both burgers fell short. Beef was good but lacking in seasoning, and came out alittle on the cooler side. The toppings on the burger, while good, also unperformed with flavor profile. But biggest issue was the untoasted bun and bread. With the beef and toppings soaking into the breading a mushy mess awaited us. Milkshakes were very flavorful as the advertised flavor BUT did seem a bit "watered down" for lack of a better word. Pretzels were very very good, warm with a soft interior, little crunchy on the exterior. Cheese sauce was also a hit. Overall, a very nice experience. Not having a wait staff made it feel more like a walk up window to-go place instead of a sit down burger restaurant. Prices were higher than one would expect but overall good. Food was decent, but overall would expect more for the price. Definitely research the menu before you come in and you'll be fine! May not be soon, but we will try to live up to the name and come back to the shack! read more

My son recommended we give this a shot and so we did. I like the concept. It's modern, easy to order using mobile app or kiosk. The restaurant is very casual. Service was friendly. I tried their Local burger lettuce wrap. Why not, it's in the menu. I also tried their sweet potato chips and peanut butter shake. The potato chips and peanut butter shake were delicious! Now about the burger, i read that it is locally sourced. It's overworked meat though, it is hard almost rubbery even if it was cook medium rare. The lettuce wrap version they gave was a no go, as they use romaine lettuce which simply melted with heat in a wrapped thin foil. Should use iceberg lettuce even if it has less vitamin content than romaine it will Hold better in heat. Else, scrap it from the menu as it's disappointing in presentation. I'm not sure if I'm going to try again this place again specially the meats are tough, overworked meat. We arrived during lunch time and sat outside. The self serve site is really difficult to maneuver. We went inside to ask for help. The help came out to assist us. I ordered a fried green tomato sandwich but wound up with a burger topped with a fried green tomato. I did not enjoy it at all. My family ordered ahi tuna sandwiches. The Mac and cheese was very good. Better than Chick-fil-A Mac and cheese easily. The service was nice with about a 10-15 minute wait for food. Also all orders are through online orders or kiosks. They have very limited inside seating so we were pushed outside which has heaters but was still cold because there is a giant open hole into the semi outdoor but trying to be indoor patio. Come Back Shack has become an institution for Boone. So much so that they are adding a second location downtown that you will never be able to find parking for. Since the late unpleasantness that was 2020, they streamlined service to where you can find a table and place your order without standing in line. You can also use the wraparound drive-thru (which is often wrapped around the building) for relatively quick service. If there's an issue, it's that inflation is about to price them out of my range, and in some instances (chicken tenders) portions are getting smaller. Still, it's a great place to eat. read more

As someone with food allergies it's difficult to eat at fast food restaurants. * That said , Connor made us feel comfortable knowing they'd be able to ensure my two beef patties wouldn't come in contact with any dairy products or anything that's touched dairy. * Connor informed the kitchen and made my meal to order. * Very grateful for their attention to detail. * Come Back Shack uses local grass fed beef and it was delicious. * My only gripe was that they charge .25 more to order something plain and without a bun. Doesn't make any sense to me. They said it was because they have to out the patties in a box, but everyone else that ordered in our party of 7 had a box in their order as well and weren't charged .25 extra for their box. Just the plain patties without bun in the allergen free order. * Not enough of a gripe to not come back in the future. But just sounds stupid to me. If it was added into the price and not told to me maybe I wouldn't be bothered by it. But the fact they label it and inform the customer "plain burgers with no bun are .25 extra" is annoying. They seemed like a great idea but they will be a definite pass in the future. The fries with come back sauce were much, much better. In a single word, YUM! You definitely have to try this place and get the Burger Come Back Style. We also got a Hawaiian chicken sandwich that was great but would have been better if we ate it there instead of taking it back to our cabin. My favorite fast food in Boone, such a variety. If you want it, you have to commit, it will usually be a long wait. If you have the time, it's worth it. To new experiences! From the JC area we decided on a little culinary day trip to Boone NC. From the start, the wonderful reception from one of the staff in the dinning room made us feel welcome with an enthusiastic helpful smile! Went through some options as well gave suggestions based upon some basic questions. That's a heck of a lot more than either of us expected. After placing our order and sat down our food was ready within a few minutes. We both ordered the double patty melt with Texas toast and two orders of cheese fries with bacon. The melt was fantastic with just the right amount of pink in my opinion and the sauce made me drool on the table a little! While digging into my wonderfully prepared fries I had to remember I typically don't eat many carbohydrates in my normal diet so that went straight out the door as I consumed the entire order. Now the no so great. While we understand there is an inflation issue in the US at the moment I'm not sure at a price tag of over $40 dollars for two burgers and fries is acceptable to many folks. They sure do draw the crowds. Overall, this is one of those burger joints on the must try list and probably a staple of Boone so I assure you won't be disappointed. I got their Nutella shake and it was good as always. I also got their BBQ fries, which I wish still had pulled pork on top. I also got their Buffalo tenders and you get your money's worth there! Next time I go back I will get just the tenders or just the fries with my shake. It was too much for me to eat in one sitting. My boyfriend got the Buffalo tenders and had nothing but good things to say as well! I do wish they didn't up charge for ranch. The prices are a bit expensive as it is. At the very least they should tell you before they charge you. I would do as the name of the restaurant says and "come back" again just like I did in college. I also whole heartedly support this business because they help out people in the community who are fundraising for medical purposes. First time here since they've switched exclusively to kiosk/online ordering. We have used this process at CBS locations in Charleston and while I think it's ridiculous, those locations are at least set up to accommodate customers with multiple kiosks and roomy interiors. This location desperately needs a remodel to accommodate their new business model. This place is a dumpster fire now. One (1!!!) kiosk inside and one kiosk on the back patio. The line for the inside kiosk stretched to the front door - putting it in the way of getting drinks and picking up your order. I was going to use my phone and the worker told me phones are a hassle and slower and directed me to the outside kiosk which was thankfully a shorter line. The area to get sauce is crammed in the corner and only really accessible by one or two people - again creating a line which stretches into the front door area. Honestly, by the time I ordered, got sauces, came back in for drinks, napkins and utensils, back in twice to pick up our food (they didn't set out the entire order the first time) I was 100% over the entire experience. If I want to work that darn hard, I might as well just cook at home. The only positive I can say is at least I don't recall the kiosk asking me to tip the employees - although wait - since I did all the work maybe I can get in on the tip sharing! read more

For me it was good, nothing I would be dreaming about again. I liked they had several options for the kids to choose from, we had beef hot dogs and grilled cheese. We also tried the double burger on Texas toast, milkshakes and chili cheese fries. We ate in the restaurant which from looking at the pictures the food doesn't look like that but it tasted good. If you go to Boone and don't eat at come back shack did you even really go to Boone!? This place gets a huge YES from me and I now know why it's called come back shack. Service is super convenient and you can order from a QR code while you wait on the porch!! I HIGHLY recommend ordering the cheddar bacon style burger with seasoned fries. I also ordered the Oreo shake as a $2 up charge with my combo and it was phenomenal. I mean truly. I drooled. My boyfriend ordered the double melt with Texas toast and didn't really enjoy the Texas toast but loved everything else!!! The ranch fries were also great but were expectedly soggy due to the ranch. Still love this place! Wanted to update that I tried a few of their "snacks" basically sliders. Genius! Little bites with big flavor. I tried the Lil Chicky and Lil FGT (fried green tomato) I love me some chicken with pickles and their pickles are spot on! Not the best chicken tender I've had, I like mine with a really crispy exterior, but it is pretty good and the chicken was tender and juicy. The FGT was really good and perfect as a slider, a whole sandwich would be a bit much with the greasiness of the fried green tomato and the pimento cheese. Frying a tomato is inherently greasy, the tomato just soaks it up. I've only had a few that didn't seem greasy but it was probably because it was made with a heavier cornmeal batter (looking at you Over Yonder in Valle Crusis and Sweet Potatoes in Winston Salem). They are always tweeting their drive thru experience to accommodate their traffic and now they have a little window to order. This also helps keep the staff a tad warmer in the winter. I almost drove by it though since I managed to arrive when there wasn't a line - a first! Best fast food establishment I've ever been to! read more

Come Back Shack is a Boone staple. I visited for the first time, and I absolutely loved their food. While it seems like an unassuming burger joint, I can safely say the food far surpasses its humble exterior. I ordered the Oreo milkshake and the grilled chicken sandwich with a side of the hand cut seasoned fries. The food is not only very reasonably priced, but also filled with flavor and absolutely delicious. You can tell the the food is made fresh and feels relatively healthy for a fast food place. My only complaint is that since the food at Come Back Shack is so good, the drawback is that wait times are somewhat long for fast food. My recommendation is to try and visit off peak. I have to say, I just didn't like it. First, they got the order wrong. Instead of lil chicky sandwiches, I got 2 fried green tomato sandwiches. Not sure if they just left off the chicken or if that is an actual menu item. If so, no thanks. There wasn't much tomato to be seen. Just a lot of greasy fried breading slathered in subpar pimento. Second, my spouse described the burger as the driest burger she's ever had. And she's not generally prone to hyperbole... Third, the Buffalo fry box was a big sloppy mess of I think ranch and petes hot sauce poured over greasy fries. We ate them pretty quickly after buying and they were just plain soggy. No crisp whatsoever. Forth, coleslaw was quite salty. Too much celery salt maybe? Milkshakes were thin and below average. Worst fast food experience in a long time!!!! I used to go here all the time and get their chili dog but since they removed it, it's been all down hill. I don't know if they are under new management or something but geez why can't comeback shack high command train employees better each time I speak with one they sound depressed like they need a union I think because what ever they are doing is badly affecting their service... Sorry for that long run on sentence. So the food is bad last time I went I got the "comeback burger" no I will not come back and no do not get their burgers. Not only did it taste like it had been defecated on by an employee I wasn't convinced this wasn't monkey meat. The burger didn't look any better either, it was sloppy falling apart and yellow??? I didn't order cholera no thank you!! Also the inside of the restaurant feels like a crack den. I have said my peace do you and your family a favor and just get chic fil a.
