    Apple butter as a condiment!
    Joy R.

Worth the 45 minute wait on game day. This spot is well equipped to handle their hungry App fans' wait times with their efficient electronic wait list. We knew there would be a wait considering it was Family Weekend at App. Noelle was our server and she was super kind and very attentive. I knew we were in the right place when I saw mini packs of apple butter as a regular staple like grape jelly. I always get an omelette and didn't deter from my routine here. I had to have a biscuit to try the apple butter. And why not blow the diet completely away with the hash browns. Everything on my plate was great. The omelette was super fluffy with perfectly seasoned sausage. The hash browns were perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. But that biscuit!!! OMG! It was super fluffy and the apple butter put it over the top and reminded me of my childhood home cooked breakfasts at my grandmother's house. I'm so glad our son is just a freshman at App so I have at least another 3.75 years to get breakfast here every time we visit.

I don't remember what this was called but it was sooo good.

Stopped here on our way back home. 45 minute wait. This place was packed and having eaten there, I would have waited over an hour!! 6 of us sat and waited while a older gentleman played music and sang. He was good and the music was the perfect volume so you could hear him but still maintain a conversation. The food came and we were amazed at the presentation alone. Their cook needs a raise! The food was beyond good! We all had more than we should have eaten but we didn't leave ANY on our plates. The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. There is a coffee bar there for while you wait. This place is a gem and I will plan my next mountain trip around that route!

Hot chocolate was da best!!!! Service was friendly. Breakfast was dang yummy! More than made up for the awful hotel breakfast. Pleasant and peaceful dining experience with local art on the walls. Do yourself a favor, come here!

We had a new waitress Nicole and she did a good job. The food was very slow, and my hamburger was burnt to a crisp. It looked like the cook put cheese on top and forgot about it for a while. It was 55 minutes after we ordered a burger and French toast before we received our food. First time visiting and might be the last, too slow and poor food quality.

We decided to give it a try based on recommendations. The wait was about 15 minutes on a Sunday, and then another 30-45 to get our food- not sure if they were having staffing issues in kitchen? Food was excellent as were portion sizes, service was friendly and was a home town vibe inside. Overall would visit again!

This was the first time eating here. There was a 30 minute wait but I expected it. The seating area was comfortable and spacious. The service staff were very pleasant and attentive The food was very tasty, the breakfast blend coffee had a heavy bitter taste but not awful. I will definitely come again to try some of the other menu items.

Sunrise grill is my number one stop for breakfast/ brunch in Boone. We came here a lot when my husband was finishing school so now I make it a point to stop in when we are in the area. This was the best end to a kind weekend in Boone and I can't wait for my return already. Everything I've had from sunrise has been delicious! They always have some great specials too.

I was staying at a hotel just down the street and our experience was so good, My son and I had breakfast two days in a row here. Not only was Sierra and the team of people working the breakfast counter sweeter than the homemade jam, they were also engaging friendly and so kind to my son and me. Let's talk about the food. The homemade bread, perfectly cooked eggs, homemade local sausage, fresh local breads from the bakery around the corner, which I believe was Stick Figure or something like that, and probably the best pancake I've had in years. If you love breakfast- and I do not... you are not to miss this place. I must say that this May has turned me into a breakfast lover. Just a note, you'll probably wait an hour for a table... But the breakfast counter and community table are towards the back Thank you all! Hope to see you soon

I also enjoyed a locally sourced tea, which was absolutely lovely. The eggs were cooked perfectly, and apparently all the ingredients were sourced from local farms and bakeries! The toast wasn't your average white bread you'd get in a diner, it was from Stickboy Bakery down the street. The sausage patties hands-down would have made this meal worth it, but did they stop there? Of course not! These grits were the most beautiful grits I've ever seen. I don't know what they're doing, but I love it! Their tea wasn't quite up to my standards, but they have a great selection. If I were them, I would skip the little French press thing they serve the tea in (it winds up with your second cup being steeped way too long) and maybe switch to a teapot or something similar. Also, I don't think they were using filtered water for the tea; it makes such a difference in the flavor. (To be honest, I had to leave my old tea place back in Virginia, and I am dying to find a new one here. And if a few tips help make me a good tea spot, all the better!) The ambiance was so relaxed. I loved the use of vintage mugs for the tea. Definitely a great place to stop by and read a book, or study if you're one of the students at the university a few blocks away. Service was delightful. I absolutely plan to go back!

Order well done toast came out loaf bread. Ordered well done sausage came out barely cooked. Hash browns were ordered scattered crispy came out barely cooked. Sausage and toast were left on plate. Couldn't eat it. Bacon was great. Coffee was excellent. This may be a hit or miss place. It all could've been on who was cooking or if server wrote a fictional order down. Not sure what happened. They did knock off a little over a dollar off the ticket. He should have sent it back but he doesn't do that. He just won't. We liked the ambiance. Decorated like yesteryears. Very comforting and clean place to eat. I might be back but he won't.

We ordered the trout deviled eggs, the smoked trout Boursin, and split the cracked crusted trout lunch with Hoppin' John and smoked Gouda grits. Every part of the meal was delicious and perfectly prepared. The trout was fresh, flavorful, and the sides complemented it so well. The only thing I'd mention is that the smoked trout Boursin is incredibly rich. It's delicious, but if you're dining as a party of two it may be a bit much in flavor so you won't want to eat too many. We weren't able to finish it. Flavor was great but could have saved. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the service was excellent. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation, even for lunch, to avoid a long wait. It's definitely a bit of a drive from Charlotte, but well worth it if you're exploring the mountain towns and scenery in the area. The restaurant has a really cool upscale mountain vibe that feels relaxed and comfortable without being stuffy. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and the whole place just had that quality mountain town feel to it. My wife and I both ordered trout, which felt like the right move here. I had the almond crusted trout with basil potatoes and garlicky grits, and it was excellent. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. The garlicky grits were especially good. My wife ordered the smoked trout, and let's just say they do not mess around with the smoke flavor here. It was seriously smoky. A couple hours later she was still burping little smoke rings on the drive home If you love strong smoky flavor, you'll probably love it. They also had a really solid craft beer selection that fit the mountain atmosphere perfectly. Overall, high quality food, great service, fun atmosphere, and absolutely worth the drive. Easy five stars from us.
