Gluten friendly bagels. Hear me out here when I say, there are no words to describe how amazing these are. Homemade, scratch bagels, gluten removed, light, fluffy, soft, squishy. I used to be able to eat their regular bagels, but now I'm gluten free, I have an intolerance. My husband and I travel (sometimes very far) in search of the best gluten free products. (We have flown to Nevada, twice, to get our favorite gluten free pizza). I was so excited when I saw that Comfort created a gluten friendly bagel, took the drive to their Westfield location and tried one. I bought a couple to take home incase they were good. I SHOULD'VE BOUGHT THEM ALL OUT FOR THE DAY. Unfortunately I was already on my way home when I realized how delicious they were, but I will now be traveling 30 minutes to Westfield every-time they have a batch out for sale. I had a plain gluten friendly bagel with scallion cream cheese (homemade as well) and it was so delicious, not even overly chewy! You could buy these bagels if you are gluten intolerant and use them as bread. They're perfect. Pictured here is what I bought to take home, gluten friendly Asiago Parmesan bagels and roasted garlic cream cheese. The gentleman working gave me a sample of the cream cheese and it was delicious- had to buy it! They have a LARGE selection of homemade spreads and they have gluten free sesame and everything bagels as well. Trust me when I say RUN, DONT WALK, to get one (or 15) of these GF bagels. They are so worth it. I'd drive hours to get these, I'd probably fly to get them too. Just try one. Thank me later. read more

Comfort Bagel is the new go-to shop for our office snack needs. Winter is tough in New England, and a warm, toasted bagel is the perfect thing. The selection rotates every 2 weeks with unique flavors of bagels, with many different butter and cream cheese flavors you would not expect. The salted rosemary is a favorite with the honey butter. If it is available, the bourbon pecan bagel is one that my co-workers make a point to get. I have not tried their coffee, but I'm also not the kind of person that likes to try a new coffee first thing in the morning. We all have to stick with the caffeine we know (and if you know you know!) It's nice that most of these bagels have enough flavor to them that you don't have to add anything on them at all to enjoy them, and they are $2 a piece plain which is super reasonable for a freshly made bagel. On the same note, it is a no-brainer to eat food that is made fresh. When you go into other local places that have bagels, do you really know where or when they were made? Don't do that to yourself. Each time we head back to my hometown of Holyoke we have to ensure a stop at Comfort Bagel makes its way into the agenda for the trip. Located in an old, renovated mill in the heart of downtown Holyoke, Comfort Bagel is a great spot putting out some amazing bagels that are worth a drive to get. This past time I went for the sesame bagel with strawberry cream cheese. One kid had the crunchy cinnamon toast bagel with plain cream cheese while another kid and my wife had the crunchy cinnamon toast bagel with the sweet vanilla cream cheese. Comfort Bagel's offerings hit different than your standard bagel with a perfect crunch on the outside but a soft inside to the bagel. There are a number of cream cheese options available and a honey butter that is dynamite, as well. Each week the bagel offerings change up so be sure to follow Comfort Bagel on Instagram to keep tabs on what the options are each week. There is always a nice mix of regular options, some sweet options, savory bagels and then some really different ones to mix things up. Comfort Bagel has a number of breakfast sandwiches available and some lunch options available, as well. The coffee comes from a local coffee roaster and is always fresh and a perfect pairing to the bagels. Customers can order online and there is generally several bags of online orders lined up for customers to pick up. We came by on National Bagel Day. They have been in the Open Square for a few years having started out as a home business. We would receive deliveries of their bagels on a regular basis. I'm not comforted My hubby and I went to Comfort Bagels interested in a quick to go bite. We didn't want to go over the mountain to Tandem and Comfort Bagel had 30 minutes before they closed so we went to check it out. The inside is cute and cozy, I could see getting a coffee and bagel and sitting inside to answer some emails. The bagels on the other hand...left more to be desired. I got the Faux Monster and hubby got the Classic. There weren't many options left for the bagels, which we knew would be the case because we got there late. We both got a cheddar chive bagel. We waited for a minute to pick up our order and left to eat the bagel at home. The sandwiches were cold and the egg on the classic sandwich seemed like it was microwaved. The bagels were barely toasted. Maybe I should come back at better hours? But you really can't do that when they are only open on weekends and aren't trying to serve a late breakfast, lunch crowd. Being retired I've done some of my own taste testing of local bagel shops. Comfort Bagels is the cream of the crop. The smell when you first walk in gets you right away. This place came highly recommended. But I didn't "know the ropes". They seem like a boutique-y / hip place. They were out of bagels when I walked there last week. From what I'm told, they update that on their Instagram (they do!) -better check there first! Today I intentionally didn't bring my lunch to work with as I was determined to try out one of their bagel sandwiches. (Pulling at your heart strings here) But when I arrived and stood to the immediate left of the cashier spot, I didn't even get looked at, let alone greeted. For 10 minutes! The people who arrived 5 minutes after I did, and stood in directly in front of the cashier spot, were promptly greeted when the staff was available, and their order was taken. Really?? Had I know that you can only attain their (allegedly) great bagels through standing directly in front of the cashier spot rather than to the left of it, I would have done so. (Innocent mistake on my part as I wasn't at the stage of paying for an order. I was at the stage of trying to be greeted) I didn't know the ropes. Twice. This place has been on my radar to try for almost a year now. It's just not in my regular commute. But yesterday I was able to swing by and grab a half dozen bagels to take home plus one to eat on the spot. These bagels are the best in western Massachusetts. The seeds go all the way around! You don't need to worry about getting left with the bottom of the bagel when someone else takes the top because they only want "half a bagel."Who does that anyways? Eat the whole bagel! Chewy on the outside tender on the inside but with enough resistance to make you think you're eating a New York bagel. And let's be real, are New York bagels even New York bagels anymore? I had a chance to try this hidden gem in the Open Square Mill complex last week and had to come back again today. For anyone who knows me, I am huge bagel fan. Comfort Bagel not only checks all the boxes for a perfect bagel, but they are by far the best bagel I have ever had. A true artisan product. I ordered their Comfort Special breakfast sandwich. I like mine with sausage. The perfectly cooked egg, the savory sausage patty, and a slice of cheese and their "comfort" sauce make an awesome and satisfying breakfast sandwich. The bagels and spreads are all crafted with the utmost care and are delicious. The staff greet the patrons with a smile and friendly greeting. Judging by the interactions they staff and regular patrons have developed a relationship. You know it is a great place when the staff know what the regulars order. On top of all that, Comfort Bagel is in a former paper mill that has been renovated over many years. The wide plank high gloss hardwood factory floors and minimalist décor really fit will to make a great place to hang out and enjoy the Pioneer Valley's best bagels. read more

We're pretty regular here since they opened. Very good bagels for the area. Very competitive compared to Tandem. They do need to branch out in the beverage selections (i.e. milk, juices) and more consistent basic bagel flavors. But all good just the same. read more

In a word - excellent! Chewy and delicious bagels and incredible coffee served in a very cool atmosphere with friendly people. My wife and I had the breakfast sandwich bagel. She had plain bagel and I had a whole wheat everything. The eggs were fluffy and delicious, the bacon was perfect (crispy but not burnt) and with the cheddar and their special sauce it really made for a delicious combo.
