I've been to Alex's many times. Very good bagels and worth driving for. Today I went in near closing time and ordered two bakers dozen bagels. Should be easy...26 bagels right? I stopped by today early morning, since I was recommend to by a friend and left very satisfied!! I was greeted by a young girl who took my order and answered all my questions very well . I got their lox fish sandwich which is pricey in my opinion, but was still very good. Overall it was a good environment and had a good selection of bagels to choose from. This is the everything bagel with jalapeño cream cheese from Alex's Bagel Shop. The bagel was very nice, could've used a bit more jalapeño in the bread. I got, what I believe is, the chive cream cheese. Overall the bagel was good, looks like a heavenly bagel in the lighting. Stopped in today for my rye bagel fix (they call it a carraway bagel). Excellent quality. Best in the area. Rivals Bronx bagels (Jerome Ave). Bagel was crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and LOADED with caraway seeds. Why only 4 stars. Price - $3.60 for one bagel (not toasted) with butter. A bit steep, in my opinion. Maybe my friend, Pots & Pans, can afford these prices (he's a triple dipper, and the richest man I know). Not me. So, to sum up, ... 5 stars for quality, 2 for price....comes to 3.5 stars....round to 4. I would go back for a dozen to go. Freeze a bunch, and add my own toppings. After reading some good reviews about this place, I thought I would give it a try. What can reallly go wrong if they only sell one thing.... ?? It was a Sunday about 12-1ish. No one was in the shop but two young highschool girl employees. Not one acknowledged a customer presence. No "Hello"... or "Welcome"... they just went on chitchatting and one on their phone. They took my order and I tipped them because I felt bad that they were young and working hard. I regretted that immediately after receiving a wrong order and then asking them to fix it. Mind you, I had paid more to get add-ons for my bagel sandwich and yet they were annoyed that they had to do it again. Store hour said closes at 3, but there girls were already closing up at 1. No presence of manager. It seems like they hated being there. Honestly I feel like the owners or manager has no idea how it's run while they are not there. On a hunch that they have one of the best traditional bagels -thinner. crispy, chewy, and flavorful-we stopped here on a road trip. The small shop is clearly meant to be an in-and-out establishment with a small seating area. There was no push or obvious desire to entice patrons with coffee, tea, or other sit down drinks. They keep it simple with a modest number of bagel flavors and homemade spreads. They didn't appear to have any seasonal specials (for food). Both of the young girls working appeared to be non-engaged outside of the need to verbally acknowledge you order and ask for payment. A huge meh for me that almost makes me want to give this place 3 stars. In all, the four stars would be for making a bagel the way it should be, and for having a strawberry spread. read more

Went back this Sunday morning to give Alex's bagels another shot. I got the cinnamon raisin with plain cream cheese and my boyfriend got the onion bagel with chive cream cheese. My cinnamon raisin had no flavor it tasted like a plain bagel. Even when I got a bite of raisin there was no flavor or sweetness just that taste of dough. My boyfriend said the same. I was actually dipping my bagel into his chive cream cheese to add some flavor it was that bad. Wish they brought it with this being the only bagel shop besides dunkin. read more

i had gone here this morning and it was very good. first time having alex's. i am impressed and will be going again. don't know the name of the young man that helped me, but he was very kind and made me an amazing bagel sandwich and i loved the drink. i was upset when i saw they didn't have chai because that's usually what i get, but they should definitely move the banana bread latte to the menu permanentally. it was so good!! great experience! also wasn't too busy! read more

After a feature on the local news, Alex Bagel's has been on our radar but we only recently made to me to pop in. Their bagels are fresh baked and always warm and fluffy. I am very partial to their cinnamon raisin and poppy seed. I've had them both with cream cheese - which is honestly the real show stopper. Their cream cheese is almost whipped, as if it has air in it. It's not dense but fluffy and so spreadable. Even when I want a breakfasts sandwich bagel I always make sure to get another with cream cheese. I do wish they had some more sweet bagel options (maybe a blueberry but I would never expect gimmicky flavors) not that this would stop me from visiting again. read more

A cute little bagel shop in a new location. I purposely stopped into this bagel shop for an egg sandwich because I didn't want the drive thru kind which are a microwaved egg. So it was much to my surprise to get a microwaved egg sandwich here. They forgot to put in the bacon. Besides that it was a cute shop with friendly service. The coffee was really good and the bagels are a tiny bit smaller than bagels you buy elsewhere but it was really a good bagel. The taste and texture were perfect. I just had a terrible experience at this establishment and it's not the first time The man who waited on me was very rude when I had the audacity to correct him because he got my bagel order wrong (we're talking about ONE bagel here). When I proceeded to ask what kind of cream cheese a certain type was (no sign), he looked away as he answered. Never once looked me in the eye. He rang me up and my wife and I left. The place was dirty as well (tables and floors, specifically). In previous experiences there, I have encountered rude young women who waited on me...I was encouraged, however the last few times I had been there since there was a young woman who was very friendly and cordial at the counter. Now, they seemed to have regressed big time with this jerk that waited on me. Is the owner oblivious to what goes on in his own store? So back visiting my hometown area 413! And I miss---really Miss!--Gus and Paul's bagels. Can't get anything close on west coast or Texas since. Stopped by today and it was super yummy. We were staying in Longmeadow and found this place on Yelp. We went in on a Saturday morning and they didn't have too much of a line. I like how they display all their spreads deli style so you can easily see all the options they have to offer. They have bagels of course but also a few fresh baked pastries displayed on the back counter. My mom got one of their cheese buns and really enjoyed it. I got some bagels and cream cheese for the fam. Everyone enjoyed their bagel. The everything was still warm when I ordered and they asked if I still wanted it toasted or not. I liked that they let me know that so I could skip toasting. The register was a little tight since our order took longer than others and we were constantly in the way waiting to pay. The best. The best. The best. I didn't realize how spoiled I was growing up with Alex's (previously "Kimmel's", in the Big Y building, next to the barber shop!) until I went to college in New York, where supposedly they have the best bagels in the world. Though I haven't tried every New York bagel, none of them hit like Alex's does. Try a plain untoasted and you'll see what I mean-- it is so flavorful on its own that I wouldn't even bat an eye if, I don't know, every toaster in the world broke and cream cheese became illegal. I would still have my delicious "plain" bagel and be happy. But my go-to when I'm back in town (and I get a dozen to go with a freezer bag every time-- I live in West Hartford, the Longmeadow of central Connecticut, and can't find a bagel place to lives up to Alex's) is a caraway seed bagel. The onion and everything are both great, too. You can't go wrong with any of them, really, especially if you get there early in the morning, when they're still warm out of the oven, and you can just eat them as is or sliced in half. This is the gold standard for bagels. Fair warning: once you have Alex's, no other bagel will do it for you (and message me if anything comes close. I'm begging.). I will agree with other reviews, that the girls working there aren't the friendliest at first, but once I asked one of them how her day was going and she opened up a little. This is not the place to come if you want a big conversation-- it's hard working at busy places like this, so early in the morning. Not making excuses for them, but remember what stereotypical Longmeadow people can be like... and imagine dealing with dozens and dozens of them early in the morning... Just one of them can ruin someone's day. Tip well, eat your bagel, be happy! read more

I understand it's a crazy time and it's hard for businesses to run efficiently and regularly. I appreciated this spot, upon entering- as they had tape on the ground, signs on the door, etc. However, I am extremely disappointed in their idea of cleanliness between costumers. A worker took an order, made a bagel sandwich with gloves on (nice), then took cash from the customer, and handed her change of bills and coins. He then took the next costumers order, grabbed her bagel, sliced it, and put it in the oven... WITHOUT changing gloves. I made a comment and he looked at me. If it weren't for my comment, he would have taken a third order, all with the same filthy cash gloves on. Not to mention, he touched two different bagels... what if the second girl had allergies? Even without the virus gloves should be changed between costumers.... but now adding cash into the mix? Not okay.
