Our project had a few different elements - we wanted to completely gut our master bath, and convert a water closet in that bathroom to a laundry area accessed from the hallway instead. The area we were remodeling was an addition put on before we moved in, and the heating and A/C was done so poorly our bedroom and bathroom barely received any heat or A/C at all, so we also wanted to put in a new HVAC system for the addition. Last minute, we were also able to add another hall closet. Others who'd come to give us quotes on our somewhat complicated project stayed 5 minutes. Scot took precise measurements, asked tons of questions, and thought of every aspect of the project so he was able to give us an accurate quote upfront (he was the only one who noticed we'd need a new electrical panel, for example. I know the others would have figured it out, but Scot was the only one who thought to go to the basement and look. For the contractors that didn't, that would have added a cost on later in the project after we'd budgeted without it, and that's just one example of what Scot caught that other builders didn't). He also came back a second time with a team of HVAC professionals to assess our HVAC issues and discuss solutions before giving us a quote. Before he had our business, he already treated us like his most important customer. After being burned by a different contractor in a kitchen remodel years ago, I was weary of starting a new project. Scot gave us a realistic timeline that we agreed on, and stuck to it. We had one worker, Walter, here every day of the project (occasionally even on Saturdays and a holiday). He was so polite, and worked so hard on our project. There were many other days where there would be a team here assisting Walter, but even if he was the only person here for the day, he always made a ton of progress on the project (and really, another person wasn't necessary those days). His work was absolutely beautiful, high-quality, and it is obvious he pays close attention to detail. Our house wasn't left a mess, either - as it was appropriate to the job, the worksite was cleaned as they went, and with the exception of dust (which is to be expected), I didn't have a huge mess to clean up when everything was complete. The other thing I loved about working with Quality Remodeling is that the owner Scot was constantly in contact with me, whether by phone, texting (which was great!), and he came by at least once a week to check up on things. So did the foreman for the project, Mark. I knew they were always around if I had questions or problems. Whenever I'd have to deal with sub-contractor (like for the vanities or the countertops), Scot would make sure I got in touch with the right person, then he'd follow up with me and them to make sure everything was going according to plan, budget, and schedule. The sub-contractors Quality Remodeling works with were all top-notch. Scot is such a friendly, knowledgeable guy. He made sure that we got what we wanted, even when it was a little hard to do. He even tried to track down some elusive tile I had found online, and after our project was completed, he checks up to make sure things are going well. We experienced a problem with one of the plumbing fixtures we bought after our project was completed, and Scot called the plumbing company on my behalf after they told me they wouldn't exchange it, and got a manager to override the decision. You can tell he genuinely cares and wants people to be happy with their projects, even after his obligation to the customer is complete. I have already recommended Quality Remodeling, Inc. to family members considering remodels. Our project turned out to be exactly what I had envisioned, and the construction of it truly lives up to the name Quality. It was truly a joy to work with the Quality Remodeling team. They know what they are doing, and they truly care about their customers. If we have any projects in the future, I know I'll be calling Quality Remodeling, Inc. in a heartbeat.

I beliv they are running a Ponzi scheme of a company, or at least that is what it appears to be with the amount of work they are getting done around here. It seems like they used our money to get their bigger clients' jobs done and not our job. The amount of work they have finish in the past five months could have been done in 4 or 5 weeks. There have not shown up to work for muliple weeks, and when the do show up it is one or two days and they only get one thing done. Don't fall for the "you need to pay us money at differen phases" and then they don't show up. They claim this doesn't usually happen but they are NOT doing anything to get things done any faster. They continue to tell us someone is coming to do such and such work and NOBODY shows up.

You hear a lot of horror stories about…read moreChicago contractors, and I can say with 100% certainty that working with Arete is the exact OPPOSITE of those horror stories. My contractor, Ned, and his team saved my sanity this year, as my initial bathroom remodel turned into a bathroom remodel PLUS gut rehab of the kitchen due to a flood in my high-rise building. More details below, but the tl;dr version is the Arete team, led by Ned, was easy to communicate with; had great systems in place for keeping track of everything that was going on; deftly navigated the challenges of working in my high-rise condo while a major riser project was under way at the same time; and gave me a fantastic finished product in exactly the time frame they had promised. I honestly cannot recommend them highly enough. I initially hired Arete just to update my small bathroom in my 1-bed, 1-bath condo in a high-rise. From the minute I met Ned, I knew he listened to me, understood what I wanted and knew which questions to ask to make sure the end result was exactly what I was hoping for. Arete's initial estimate came in a little higher than the other companies I got estimates from, but I had a good feeling about their systems and their great communication, and I am SO GLAD I went with them. When the Arete team came out for the initial walk-through of the bathroom after I hired them, Arete's owner was with them. While he was in my unit, he noticed a significant amount of damage in the kitchen from a flood a few weeks earlier, damage that had been completely missed by a vendor sent out by my insurance company. He encouraged me to contact the insurance company again and request the proper insurance vendors come out on site to investigate. Those investigators eventually discovered a huge amount of water damage and mold behind the walls, which necessitated a gut demo of the kitchen. If the Arete team had not noticed the telltale signs of this damage, I would have never known to push back on the insurance company for additional services, and I would have been living in an unsafe environment as a result. Then, when the insurance vendors gave me the runaround and claimed they couldn't rebuild the walls in my unit for at least three months, Arete agreed to step in and complete the work, and it was done within a week. Then they helped me upgrade my countertops as well. At the same time, they were diligently completing the bathroom remodel (the initial reason I hired them). Throughout that process, they effectively communicated the timeline, contacted me with any hiccups, made sure they got approval for any changes, talked me through the choices, handled all the logistics without my having to do anything (they even picked up some of the the supplies I ordered and stored them for me until they were needed!). They were just generally fantastic to work with. They finished the bathroom in the 5-week timeline they had initially anticipated in their estimate to me. I am SO happy with how the bathroom turned out. Their work was impeccable. So, so grateful for Arete, and for my beautiful new kitchen and bathroom!

The on-site staff were super courteous, obviously loved what they do and care a lot about doing it right. Total Home quotes prices up front and strives to stick to that plan. Our project had some cost changes, but none were really surprises, because we were advised up front of places that things could get more (or less) complicated, and when that did happen, THI always talked with us about how to proceed before making any changes to plan. You have to sign off on contract cost changes. Overall, we love everything they did. We have future remodeling work planned and will absolutely contract with THI for it.
