This is kind of what the room looks like but it's kind of a mess considering we are leaving now.

Everything was amazing . The staff members were so friendly and kind with everyone. Breakfast was closed and someone asked for some more yogurt and let them get some! How nice is that? The best sleep I had in a little bit. They make the best eggs and gravy. Mix them together and BOOM! So good. Would recommend if driving on a road trip. STOP HERE!!!

Sydney at the front desk recognized me when I came back and she was able to get us a room that minimized the amount of walking to/from as one family member is currently have mobility issues. The rooms are clean, the hotel is quiet, the parking lot is safe, and the breakfast is good. They offer both corn or flower tortillas with breakfast. The indoor pool and jacuzzi are nice to wind down after a long day driving. It is a small town and there aren't a lot of places to eat, but we've all been happy with both Nachos and La Hacienda which are both located near the hotel. The hotel also has some frozen meals available that are very inexpensive if you just want to microwave something quick to eat before heading to sleep. We have stayed here many times over the years and have never had any problems. I think this is the second time I've reviewed them, but we've been stopping here every year or two for what I think is about twenty years now.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5 - Honest Review from a Traveler, Not......an Influencer…read more I was traveling through this area on vacation and chose this hotel based on reviews -- it had a 4.9 rating, the highest in the area. That said, I'm not sure how it earned that score. I suspect a few influencers may have artificially boosted the rating without even staying here. I'm not saying this is a bad place to stay, but it's definitely not a 4.9 -- not even close. I just want to give an honest account so others can make an informed decision. PROS: Security/Parking: Felt like a safe area. Our vehicle was untouched overnight, and parking was well-lit. Interior Design: The hotel is older, but it's been updated -- mostly with fresh paint and new furniture. Room Appearance: Generally clean. Rooms have hardwood floors instead of carpet, which helped with cleanliness. Breakfast: The breakfast was fresh and tasty -- no complaints here. Bed Quality: Beds were comfortable enough. The pull-out sofa wasn't great, but that's not unusual for pull-outs. Entertainment: Large TV with a good variety of channels -- definitely a plus. Pool: Pool and pool area were well-maintained and inviting. CONS: Customer Service: Check-in experience was poor. The front desk clerk was on her phone when we walked in. She seemed rushed and disinterested when helping us, like she had to get back to her conversation. Amenities: Only two washcloths provided in a suite with two queen beds and a pull-out -- not ideal. Towels and washcloths were rough and felt cheap. Also, bring your own body wash and shampoo -- the ones provided didn't lather or rinse well, according to several in our group. Housekeeping/Condition: There was a damp, musty odor in the room -- likely due to the age of the building. The overall cleanliness was acceptable, but the smell lingered. Food Options Nearby: Not much to choose from in the immediate area, so plan to eat before you arrive or drive a bit to find something decent. Final Thoughts: If you're just looking for a place to crash for the night, this hotel may work. But go in with realistic expectations -- this is more of a 3-3.5 at most star experience, not a luxury stay. I'm not trying to discourage you, just sharing an honest take so you're not misled by glowing 5-star reviews.

Step Back in Time at the Sunset Motel - Classic Charm with Modern Touches…read more The Sunset Motel on Route 66 is a true step back in time--in the best way possible. From the paneling and vintage furniture to the mid-century artwork, the entire place feels like a well-preserved piece of Americana. It's clear the owners take great pride in maintaining the property and providing guests with a welcoming, nostalgic experience. Though it's just 650 feet from the interstate, we didn't hear any road noise at night--a pleasant surprise. While we weren't traveling with pets, the motel is clearly pet-friendly, with a nicely kept grassy area for pet relief. The pet fee is also very reasonable at just $15. Our main challenge was the lack of accessible power outlets in the room. As someone who uses a CPAP and travels with other electronic devices, this made things a bit tricky. The continental breakfast came in a charming little bag and included a bran muffin and two oranges. There's a coffee maker in the room, which was appreciated, but don't expect a full breakfast spread. The beds were very firm--in our opinion, too firm for a comfortable night's sleep. That might work for some, but it's something to be aware of if you prefer softer bedding. EV travelers should know that the Tesla charger onsite is owned and operated by Tesla, not the motel. The staff doesn't have much information about it. There are two units, both with J1772 adapters, and they appear identical to Tesla destination chargers. I charged at 11 amps to avoid idle fees and was pleased to see no charges after about 10 minutes post-charge. The cost was $0.36/kWh--about half the price of the Francis Energy Superchargers in the area. All in all, the Sunset Motel offers a unique and memorable stay for travelers who appreciate a retro vibe, friendly service, and a touch of Route 66 history.

I really like that parking is included and not an extra charge like some hotels. We were located near a Target and lots of restaurants as well. Our room was located on the 12th floor and it was busy as the last ever Gathering of Nations was taking place at the fairgrounds. The employees whom helped us were very nice and efficient and checked up on us with a phone call once we got settled in our room. As for the room itself, it was perfect for what we needed. We had a great view of the city. The only cons we had was the HVAC system was not working properly. The room was very stuffy and no matter what temp we lowered it to (went all the way down to 60) the A/C did not kick in). The fan was working but not blowing any cold air (the hallway's A/C was working). I reported it to the front desk upon check out. The other item was the shower's knobs were located on the opposite side of the shower head and I had never seen that before. It was very awkward as the glass sliding door does not open on the side with the shower head. I felt that it was unsafe as you turn on the water but cannot feel the temp of the water cause it is on the other side. Overall, stay was good and it was pretty quiet other than hearing a couple of guests out in the hallway. I would stay here again if in the area.

Our hotel room had quite a bit of space for the six of us staying in it. I took off a star for three reasons - The pull-out sofa bed sank in quite a bit, the tub was very slow to drain so you were standing in a few inches of water by the end of your shower and the vent in the bathroom/the heater near the window are in need of a good cleaning. Otherwise, I checked the beds, and they were clean as were the sheets and pillows. The floors looked clean as did the rest of the room, plus it was nice having the kitchenette and two bathrooms in the room as there is usually only one bathroom in most other suites we've stayed in. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was about how you'd expect. The eggs are generally powdered eggs and are watery. They did have a small breakfast taco making section with pulled chicken that was actually pretty good. Trader Joe's across the street. Also Coronado Mall is nearby. And a big Target too. Upon check out, I think Andrew was his name. Not the friendliest, didn't ask me how my stay was or anything. Ours was the Garden Room which was more of a suite than a room. In addition to the queen bed, there is also a separate room (like a living room) with a pull out couch. The living room has a door that leads out to a balcony that looks over the entire property. From there you can see a huge courtyard with a fireplace and luxurious lounge chairs, hammocks and benches. However, my room was really dated and frankly more than a touch gross. The carpet was stained and had holes in it. The whole room smelled of damp and vague cigarette spoke. And portions of the dresser were just broken. Air con sounds like a Gulfstream 6 taking off. Someone had told me prior to my stay to switch hotels, and I see why. Not the worst, but man oh man this place is tired. Bathrooms at least are nice and the bed and pillows are soft. But I don't think I'd come back. Ha. Update. Was awoken at 12:41 am by an emergency alert instructing all guest to evacuate the building immediately. There was no staff to guide us to the exits. Someone mentioned a staff member guiding people to the exit, only to later learn she was actually also a hotel guest who happened to be a flight attendant. (I'm glad someone was at least trying to coordinate an emergency response) Sadly, when we got outside, there was no staff to provide instructions or information. No one knew what was going on. People randomly just starting filing back in and shuffling to the elevators. While other groups milled around looking for the stairs, as they were not readily in sight from the first floor. There was one staff member at the main desk at this point. So unacceptable. Had it been an actual emergency, this lack of guidance and general foolishness could have had serious consequences. People aren't just paying for comfort (which they're not getting here anyway) Theyre paying for safety and professionalism, which was SEVERELY lacking during this process. I know emergencies happen, and lots of factors are simply out of management's control, but the response was disappointing, especially on top of an already subpar beginning. I feel like NeNe Leakes would have some choice words about this... experience. Whew chile!! Update: It's 3:23 am. Another emergency alarm has gone off. Guys seriously????
