Disgusting Experience - Ants in the Bed! Avoid Comfort Inn & Suites Hillsville, VA We arrived at Comfort Inn & Suites in Hillsville, VA around midnight, completely exhausted. When we turned down the sheets to go to bed, we were horrified to find ants crawling all over the sheets, pillows, and mattress. That's right -- ants in the actual bed. We immediately went to the front desk. Their first response? "We'll change the sheets." As if that would fix a bed infested with ants. Then they offered to spray chemicals -- which we refused, because who wants to sleep in a room freshly sprayed with pesticides? We were in the room for less than two minutes and told them we could not stay. The general manager was shockingly rude and dismissive, refusing to issue a refund and telling us, "Well, when there's a small amount of food, ants come. It happens." That's unacceptable. A clean, pest-free room is the most basic requirement for any hotel stay. We left immediately and had to find another hotel at our own expense in the middle of the night. Avoid this place at all costs. It is unsanitary, unprofessional, and the management clearly does not care about guests' safety or comfort. read more

The front desk clerk turned us away. He said he couldn't find our reservation and the hotel was full. My reservation said "pay at the hotel" so I didn't think I would get charged. I did get charged! I tried for a refund. The hotel actually told the booking agency that I checked in and I stayed the night! What?? They are crooks for doing this to me. I will never book through that agency again or even consider staying at this place again. read more

While traveling through the area, we needed 2 rooms for the night. We wanted to avoid the wytheville area as we stayed there last week, and the prices are much higher for lower quality rooms. This Comfort Inn was ok, just average. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. It was clean, could use an upgrade, but decent. We tried to get into the Hampton Inn which is in the same area, but it was booked. Interesting that when going to the McDonald's near this hotel we were given a tip to avoid the red roof Inn, so we did. Thanks. :) Hotel had breakfast. However, a guest apparently put Nutella in the waffle maker and messed it up so apparently it couldn't be used. There was a fridge and I think a microwave in the room. I liked the fact that there were Usb plugs on the lamps. The thing I found really strange and I don't recall this anywhere else I've been recently, is that their bathtub floors seem curved. It's odd, when you stand in them, they are awkward. I did not like this at all! What's up with that? My mom is a senior and had to be very careful getting in and out. The comfort inn was true to there name. From the moment I walked in I was greeted with a big smile (behind a plexiglass wall) not only the smile was impressive but the tone / vibe. She was glad that I was there, glad that I walked in the door. It was a great greeting after a long stressful drive. I greatly appreciate it. Followed up by a very comfortable room. To my surprise they were a lot a little things, like extra outlets on every flat surface where you might need to place some electronics device and then all the furniture that had electricity going to it had an outlet or a USB connections attached to it. That's what I'm talking about ready for the future. Ready for everybody in your party devices. I didn't have to move any furniture around to suit me. Everything was moved around to suit me already. Nothing was dated everything looked up-to-date. The bed was just right not too soft not too hard. The pillows were great and the linen was of the proper color no stains no highly worn look. My big screen TV was at least 50 inches plus and my mini fridge had a mini freezer. My work desk has a nice leather chair with lighting and enough electrical plugs for two computers and a few other devices that use USB connections I would need. My bathroom was very clean. My king-size suite was just what I needed. I've never stayed at a Comfort Inn before. But this will not be my last. read more

I'm trying to think of anything wrong with this hotel and, frankly, I cannot. The Comfort Inn Hillsville was the second of six hotels I stayed at last week and it might have been the nicest. I arrived around dusk and departed shortly after dawn to hike Mount Rogers, so I didn't see much of the hotel in daylight. But what I did see inside and out was nice. Room was clean, ethernet was provided at the desk. A suite was the same price as other room types for me, so I wasn't about to pass up the sitting area. While I did not partake, the hotel was serving a hot breakfast in the morning and the pool was open. Hillsville doesn't have many food options, but fast food row is a stone's throw away. I-77 was next to the hotel, though I didn't hear a thing. read more

Great place. Had a fair price from Priceline so I called the hotel. They gave me a price $10 lower. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower had hot water. Very nice for a last minute reservation. Even came with an awesome sunset. read more

The rooms are extremely clean and the staff are most friendly. I stay here because it is a halfway stop on an annual road trip. While there are times that I feel like I would rather drive further and closer to my destination, I always stop and stay here because I know I will never be disappointed. read more

On a motorcycle vacation and we stopped here. They were very nice and allowed us to park under their awning since there was bad weather coming. This was the nicest hotel on our ten days so far! My wife and I stayed here on our way traveling through the area. There are several options of hotels, but we are very glad we chose this one. Our room was very clean and bright, which i can tell you as a frequent traveler is not always the case. The furnishings are attractive and comfortable. The hvac worked well. The breakfast area is a bit small, but the food options are plentiful. Amanda and Laura at the front desk are delightful. And--serendipity--the rates beat their competitors! My husband and I have never stayed at a such a disgusting hotel as this one, & we have stayed at many many many hotels. There was mold and mildew in the shower area on the ceiling, the freezer within the refrigerator was thick with ice, the sprinkler head in the shower area was filthy dirty, the wallpaper in the shower room was coming apart, the wallpaper in the sink area had what looked like blood drippings on it and the ceiling in the sink area was flaking off. We would have found another hotel except a person in the elevator told us all the rooms were full everywhere. We did not complain about the issues until we arrived home three weeks later which was our fault. We should have known better. The GM at the hotel refused to issue a refund when he was contacted because we did not complain when we stayed there & because it took us too long to complain. I don't understand how they have the audacity to charge us almost $200 for a room in these conditions. Please don't stay here. read more

On our trip to Florida and back we stayed at a Hampton, a Fairfield, generally with a 4# support animal. The BEST, the Very BEST what is this comfort inn !!!! Yes the beds were nice in the air more expensive places however these beds were fine actually more like home. But the kicker was the morning breakfast which had everything you could ask for and more from fresh fruit to us it's sausage gravy, eggs and biscuits it was just perfect. I booked a room for the wrong date that was a month ahead of when I was looking to stay. It was a pay at hotel option and when I cancelled the room the same day...also free cancellation. Instead my debit card was charged the full amount for the room. I have been in contact with comfort inn and hotels.com several times over the past few weeks and they are still insistent that they don't owe me a refund. The room was fine but when we went down into the whirlpool and pool area the pool looked green and dirty, the spa looked better than the pool, after being in it for a few mins we noticed grime build up on the side of it and I lifted my foot out of the water and from touching the railing there was some kind of black stain on my leg there was also bugs on the floor all over by the spa area if you're looking for a room the room was fine I do not recommend using the pool or spa read more

check in was nicest part and so were the two guys working the desk. It only took 20 mins for my family and me to leave after we just paid. I just handed my cards in without asking for my money back. I considered it a donation. Nothing was open,can barley open the doors to your room and it seemed like we the inconvenience when we asked if the pool or gym or anything was open or worked. We stayed at this hotel on our way up to Pennsylvania from Florida. A quite nice surprise considering we are not Choice Hotels fans but this place truly lived up its Gold Standards. Though we found it a little odd to see a big sign painted "Indoor Pool and Spa" that kind of takes away the simplicity of this hotel. Front desk clerk was friendly, professional and efficient. The room was pretty comfortable and clean for just a night visit in the area. Right off I-77. Maintaining a high quality of cleanness is a common issue amongst Choice Hotels but not this one. I can tell that the property is always is being taken care of. If you stop at the VA Rest Area, you might find some good coupons for this hotel. Room had smell to it and felt damp the entire time we were there. Room seemed clean enough. Hot tub was a murky color and had a weird foam. We only had four towels in our room and we all wanted to take a shower and not have to share towels. I Went down and asked for an extra towel and was questioned by the front desk girl on why I needed an extra towel, um excuse me for $200 a night for a 2 star hotel I should be able to get a damn extra towel without explaining myself. Also they called up to our room at 930 to see if we had left yet even though check out is at 10. They required me to pay an extra $10 to have a rollaway bed which had a prison type mattress on it and thin old sheets and a scratchy old blanket. Also there was a wasp on our toilet the morning we left. We will find other accommodations on our way through next time. No one at desk to check out either. Got tired of waiting so left key on counter. We didn't even bother getting up to go to breakfast. My husband and I hardly slept because we felt wet the entire night I might have gotten two to three hours of sleep. read more

One of the newest, and best, Comfort Inns I've visited. Located less than a mile off I-77 at the Hillsville/Galax exit, the hotel can't be any more than five years old, and has obviously had outstanding maintenance during that time. Our room was spotless when we arrived --- even the bathroom --- and was maintained that way during our entire four-day stay. Bed was firm and very comfortable, climate control systems and free Wi-Fi worked perfectly, HD TV and small refrigerator were nice features, and the shower water pressure and temperature were perfect. The complimentary standard Comfort Inn breakfast was standard and predictable, but it did the job of filling the morning hole in the gut, and was, as I said, complimentary. And every member of the service staff we met was friendly and interested in helping with our needs, whatever they might have been. While we don't usually go out of our way to visit a Comfort Inn when travelling, this one might be worth a slight detour to visit again. Definitely one of the best in this chain. read more

We stay here about twice a year when my husband has functions in the area. They are always super friendly and professional. Rooms are always very clean. This last visit my kindle accidentally got put in a drawer while we were up to leave. As we were headed to our next destination I got a phone call from their amazing staff letting me know that they found my tablet while cleaning the room and they wanted to know how they could return it to me. I was in complete shock!!! I went back by to pick up my kindle and the manager had it waiting for me behind the desk. Wonderful, amazing and honest staff, who were so kind. Stayed last night at this hotel. Male at the front did not seem to know what he was doing. He commented that it was his first night by himself. He had trouble with my credit card and had to manually enter it. After our 5 hour stay, I went to check out. We had been charged twice for the night. Had to wait 15 minutes for the manager which put us behind in our schedule. She was no help, didn't know why we were charged twice. Told me to get her the fax number for my bank and she could get the money back sooner. When I looked it up she said she needed more info. It's 7am. Most banks don't open till 9. She couldn't tell me why it happened. The room might have been ok, but obviously the staff doesn't know how to simple charge for the correct length of stay. read more
