But once you get to know the people and history, you find the heart of a town that is so warm, kind and real. We love the vibe of this Iron Horse Hotel. It's so charming, unique, historic and is a one-of-a-kind find. Nichole was so friendly and helpful and puts a lot of love and care into this hotel. It's not your typical hotel--it's truly a unique old-town experience. The ceilings are high, the furniture is antique and the details are divine. Other than an occasional train (which is part of the history) it's so quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed our stay and if we are ever in the area again, we'd definitely stay here! After having dinner with friends in Columbia, we came back expecting to just chill at the Iron Horse but stumbled across a fun group at Dapper Daq. We had so much fun with them! In the morning when we checked out, we visited Christina's for breakfast and she made a wonderful spread. We left Blackwater feeling like we escaped the rush of highways, business chains and everyday life. Disclosure: there is no tv or shower--only a claw-foot bathtub. There are no dinner restaurants or gas stations. None of this bothered us. It added to the whole experience! I treated myself to a long bath and enjoyed the quiet (no tv, no car traffic, etc).

When we walked in there was no one at the front desk to greet us and we were asked to pick up a phone no one even answered. We hung up and this elderly lady comes from upstairs and says she is here and walks around to the desk. We greeted her and simply asked if the AC was working. I can't get hot at night or I will get a migraine. She then proceeded to say if I didn't want to stay then we didn't have to. Then she got hostile and mumbling then she started calling me a racist simply because I asked if the air was working. I was shocked I suddenly didn't feel comfortable. She then said that you booked through Experian so they will have to refund you. My husband said let's just go and as we are walking out she yells across the lobby that she is an American. It was the crazies most uncomfortable thing I have had to experience with a hotel ever. I called Experian and they told me that she was only going to allow us 2 of our 3 nights back. That makes no sense that I would have to pay for a stay somewhere where the manager/ employee made things hostile and awkward. Kitchenette with all the essentials (pots, pans, dishes, measuring cups, coffe filters, etc.). Be aware that you will have to do the dishes as there are no dishwashers. Each room has a different lounging set-up. I prefer the recliners or sofa. The bathroom is really nice. New tile on the floor and shower. New vanities. New everything! Management is extremely helpful. You can reach them by text anytime. They respond to your needs quickly. And the rooms are cleaned once a week. There are only a few cons. The walls are VERY thin (at night I recommend turning the vent on the microwave on to drown out sound). The AC unit runs constantly in the spring/summer (this causes the pipes in the walls to pop at certain times which can be loud). And I think, stress think, these rooms used to be smoking before the renovation (bring some type of room freshener if this slight odor might bug you). I would definitely stay here again. It's a great value, great management and cute cozy rooms.

She did not come up this time, but she had a great time. For me, being a non-gambler, I brought my laptop and settled in the tables near the casino's entrance. Hooked up to the wall outlet and did my thing. Watched as people queued up to receive their free gift for playing. They were handing out air fryers. Do get yourself to the service desk and sign up for your players card. Always ask of theres any free play with your sign up. You never know what their latest promo will provide.
