A beautiful hotel with all the original, historic details still shining bright. Despite the beauty and convenience along our Katy Trail bike tour, I've got to say the lack of quality service and hospitality here made this stay just OK. After riding 78 miles, we were a tad weary to say the least. We were eager to check in and get situated, but the crew working wasn't anywhere to be found. We waited and waited, and then finally had to start going around asking people if they worked there to check us in and they sort of rushed through it and seemed put out. They also have a system where you have to hand in your key before going outside which is fine, but a tad difficult because the staff was absentee or on the phone so much that there was no urgency. The room was nice with multiple beds, and an old shower with not much pressure (to be expected in a unique place like this). There were a few spiders here and there and my bed was slanted as if the mattress needed to be turned. Lastly, the bike storage situation... They told us they'd lock them in the basement and they weren't kidding. It's like our bikes were being kidnapped in an old cellar. No bike racks, no anything -- just an empty room and some drywall with no lights. They didn't have a system in place so technically anyone else with a bike could come in there and wheel out multiple bikes and be on their way. I suggest something similar to their key system where you get a card that they write, say, "blue and white bike" to match with what you bring in, then have you turn that in each time. Our Revival service was truly terrible as well (more on that in a separate review) and on the whole it felt like we were just in the way of everyone here, despite paying over $200 on a seemingly light weekend for them. They also didn't tell us about the continental breakfast until we asked and caught it as it would down. Side note, they put the "hard" in hard-boiled eggs there.. Not sure I'd rush to spend the money to come back here, but it certainly is a beautiful, historic place on the river.

Room 5 in the morning. So peaceful!

We decided to stay here for one night while moving across the country, and it was such a unique experience! The hotel is full of character and charm but still comfortable for someone with a modern preference. It was between Hotel Frederick and Holiday Inn for us... Hotel Frederick was more interesting and more affordable on a Friday night! The bar even had an awesome all female band playing. Only bad part is we were only there for one evening. I'd love to spend a long weekend here sometime in the future.

Great old hotel with lots of character and well maintained. Rooms were clean, restaurant and bar were great. Beds were very comfortable and the a/c worked great. They've put a lot of money into restoring the hotel and it shows. We want to come back.

Built in 1905 .... original wood & flooring

The Hotel Frederick building was built in 1905. It's a really nice change from your traditional hotel. We stayed here after the Mizzou Homecoming festivities. The rooms feel very solid. Our room #27 was spacious, clean, had brick walls, wood floors, a king size bed, a second twin sofa type bed (our 15 yr old used and was very comfortable). Our king bed was very comfy.... linens were fresh and bed was nicely made. The bathroom is spacious with lots of towels. They also give you slivers of the Zum Bar soaps to use. Just cute quaint touches. There is a continental breakfast and coffee. This is a restaurant and a gift shop. It was a good 35 min drive from Columbia, MO but I'm glad we came here. It's situated just off the Missouri River and right by the Katy Trail. Lots of bikers cone here to rest their bodies before heading out again on the trail. I truly enjoyed this hotel.

The hotel is being renovated and the 3rd floor is currently closed for renovations. They have signs posted apologizing for extra noise between 8a and 6p - no water from 11a to 3p. They never mentioned the renovations when we made our reservation. Our room obviously hasn't been renovated yet. The chair cushion was badly stained. The bath mat was damp - appeared to be clean but maybe wasn't in the dryer long enough. Cable for the TV was stretched across the ceiling (looks like a temporary fix). And, when we checked in, the guy at the desk told us the TV in our room was a little quirky and that we should call him if we couldn't get it to work. No sweat - we weren't planning to watch TV. Expected a bit more for $200 a night.

Also makes the room extremely dry, so don't forget chapstick! Their bathroom has decent body lotion which I had to use alot of. Nice to see they're using refillable soap/shampoo/conditioner/lotion bottles instead of travel size disposables. Bed was ok for 1 night. Bathroom needs more than just 2 tiny nubs on the back of the door to hang anything -- 2 towels could barely hang there, and no place to put clothing except on floor or wet counter. For more than 1 person in the room needing privacy, this makes changing more challenging. Breakfast was mediocre. Scrambled eggs had run out by the time we arrived just after 8:30 AM -- since they don't close until 9:30 AM they should've been refilling. The pork sausage sticks casing was tough; I didn't try the turkey sausage patty but son did and said it was just ok. Make your own pancakes were bleh. Highlight of hot food was Cinnamon rolls. Orange Juice seemed diluted, or just low quality. Boiled eggs in fridge were poorly peeled (missing white parts). Raisin bran cereal was a bit stale -- probably not a lot of people take it so it has been sitting around too long. Glad we booked on Priceline for a low rate.

Got a smoking room at first, and was quickly able to have it changed to a non smoking. Much better! They are much cleaner and worth it. The room was clean and well stocked. The tv didn't have a ton of channels but did the job. Had a nice bathroom, clean bath tiles, microwave and fridge! Beds were very comfortable and clean. The ac unit was good and cooled ok. Breakfast was nice and even had a egg omelette and waffle maker. I've stayed in a few super 8's and this was by far the best! The staff was all super nice especially the high school aged night worker. She was very pleasant and hardworking for a person her age!
