This hotel needs a complete renovation. They need to clean the carpets. The halls were very smelly. The security doors were broken and propped open, which made me feel extremely unsafe. The breakfast food was nasty and greasy on the third day but on the first and second, it was a little better. If they are not going to fix the side security doors, then they should hire a security guard. The Fitness room door was also broken. The wallpaper in my room was peeling off, had tons of air bubbles, and even patches where there were holes in the wall. The housekeeper left my ice bucket filled with water and did not replace the plastic bag to get more ice on my second and third day. This was not such a great experience. I have to find a better hotel for my next visit next month. read more

Terrible experience, This facility went down hill altogether. Was harassed for film the elevator in the hotel. The follow up for the incident has been going on for three months. Management does not seem to care or apologize for their actions. Screaming in front of my face and causing a scene in front of other paying guests is not okay. Yes I know that it is private property, but there is a nice way to handle such matters like this one. Do not recommend this place at all. read more

This hotel has "HORRIBLE" customer service!!! And as for the rates "TRUST ME" keep on looking you'll find better! I had a booking through hotels.com and they had the option to grant me a refund and not only to an agent at hotels.com but me on the phone said "NO" we will not be giving you a refund... so I cancelled weeks before my stay and they were NO HELP feeling good about keeping my money for a hotel that I wasn't even gonna be staying at, I guess desperate times calls for desperate measures... and rash the front desk guy was RUDE, screaming hotels.com has your money, and "ACTUALLY" told me "I SHOULD DO A BETTER JOB OF READING FINEPRINT NEXT TIME" WOW what a joke this place is!!! Stayed here in order to run away from my family. Hotel is clean, easy to get to, and the price wasn't bad at all. They've done some updates but other areas could use some help. Check in was a breeze, and I was in my room in 5 minutes. Free wifi is always good. The room isn't as updated as some of the other Holiday Inn Expresses I've visited. The furniture still features a big, clunky armoire, a desk, etc. They retrofitted the room with a charging station next to the bed but it's only on one side, so if you need plugs on both sides you're SOL. Yes, you do hear some of the noise from Route 17, so ask for a room in the back if that will bother you. Also, why do they still have those awful radio alarm clocks with the glowing red numbers? They are awful. I couldn't unplug it because the plug was practically welded in behind the nightstand, so I put it in the drawer to keep the numbers from shining at me all night. The hallway was newly carpeted and the ceiling is rather low, so the perspective felt very weird. There's something about the carpeting pattern combined with that low ceiling that gave me slight vertigo. While the room was clean I was extremely disappointed to discover an older, embedded smoke smell near the bathroom. The hotel is advertised as being 100% smoke-free, but obviously they don't do a good job of getting rid of the odor after someone has fouled the place. I noticed that the shower curtain was retaining that odor. The bed had a new mattress, loads of pillows and it was extremely high up. I had to laugh, I'm short, and I practically had to take a running leap to get onto the bed. The TV worked well but I think it's satellite and there was some drop-out in the sound while watching. The morning breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, bacon, cold cereals, oatmeal, cinnamon buns and a pancake machine. There's yogurts and fruit, too. There's bread, bagels, etc. They had jelly and cream cheese today but no butter, which I found odd. Coffee, tea and cocoa were readily available. Pros: Not a bad price for North Jersey; clean room; good bed, full breakfast; 24 hour availability of coffee, tea & cocoa in the lobby. Cons: smelled smoke in places; not fully updated; road noise. Hotel is really just rooms and a breakfast bar. There's no restaurant or bar (like with most HI Express properties) so you'll have to go out to eat or order in. read more

Pros: good clean standard room. Comfy pillows, great water pressure. USB chargers by the bed, I didn't hear the highway outside (but my room was on the far end of the building away from the highway). Friendly front desk people, Continental breakfast was unexpected and a nice touch. Would have been 4 stars except... Cons: I stayed for 2 nights. Each morning at 9:00 am the maid service folks were very very loud, calling out to each other in Spanish and laughing loudly and one of them was playing music. I found this hotel to be surprisingly pleasant and comfortable I heard the word express and I wondered what you're going to get short changed on. I was pleasantly surprised the staff was knowledgeable and accommodating the hotel itself very clean and no funny smells in the whole way I don't care if it's legal or not I don't want to smell it. Location was great and the staff were lovely and very helpful. The short Latina woman who does house keeping was the kindest soul and the front staff were always courteous. Horrible place with deceptive practices! If you don't want to be ripped off, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! My father died this week and I tried to get a room through Expedia, com (another site to stay away from- the site puts incorrect booking dates..and trying to get correct dates adusted is a nightmare!!). I had rebook the room, and Expedia supposedly booked my correct dates while cancelling the incorrect dates. I drove 250 miles ...to go to the funeral home...finally getting to Holiday Inn Express in Paramus....only to be told my reservation had been cancelled by Expedia. Com...even though I was being charged for the room. Deceptively...the desk clerk at Holiday Inn told me they could create a new room booking .. if I submit my credit card once again!!!!! Using my better judgment....I went to a new hotel l, got a room...and was able to attend my father's funeral. Now...I'm on the phone with my credit card company and Expedia. com...who is claiming that Holiday Inn Express says I never showed up for the room...and I have to be charged for a room I never stayed at!! We stayed here on a Saturday night while visiting the NYC area. This Holiday Inn is located right off the highway so you'll need to make sure you aren't going too fast if you want to catch the entrance, though if you do, you can just take the road next to it as it leads into the parking lot. Because of its location, you should expect to hear some highway noise at night, but nothing really that noticeable, at least from our room. Our room (#113) was good, but the beds were great. If it weren't for the two kids...I'm sure the beds would have been more relaxing. I'm not a fan of tall beds, and these beds are HIGH; almost as tall as my 4-y.o. We had to stack the pillows on one side just in case any of the kids rolled off during the night. Good thing there were 4 plush pillows though. The room was equipped with an AC/Heater wall unit, but because the windows appeared to be bolted shut -- for security reasons I'm sure -- we couldn't get any real ventilation in the room. I don't recall seeing a ventilation or fresh air setting on the controls. Mini-fridge and free wi-fi in the room was convenient, as was the extra plugs on the night stand for your electronic devices. I liked the fact that they had round the clock coffee in the breakfast area. There was also a water cooler (hot/cold) which was convenient for that late-night bowl of instant noodles. Breakfast was not bad, but considering it was complimentary, I thought it was great. One less thing to have to deal with in the morning! If there is one thing I could change though, I would recommend the staff always wear a smile. Though the receptionist I checked out with was not rude...she certainly didn't make an effort to smile. Bad stay... I stayed here for two days while I was in town on business this month. I stayed in (136) which was down the far end of the hotel. The room itself had water leaks (see photos), The table lamps buy the bed would not work properly when they were plugged into the outlet behind the bed which required me to unplug one from the outlet behind the bed and plug it in on the square box next to the bed (see photos). The parking lot was POORLY managed leaving thick frozen over slushy ice which then was hidden by another two inches of snow which was not plowed either! Now for the WORST PART... On three separate occasions on my second day there, my room key would not work. This may not seem like such a big problem but when you can't get in the building and your forced to walk in heals (while it's very cold) through their poorly maintained parking lot all the way up to the main desk to get it reset. I was told that my card needed to be reprogrammed because I had supposedly put it too close to my car keys, credit card or cell phone. Since I couldn't be sure I hadn't done that the first time I though OK, they system is really outdated (I've never had this problem anywhere else) but at-least I know to keep it by itself... Unfortunately, it didn't matter, the card went blank two more times despite my being careful not to put it near anything electronic. Mind you this occurred THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY! After the third time and again when I checked out I requested that the hotel refund me the cost of a portion of my stay, I got a voicemail and then this email from the manager Victoria: "I hope you are doing great today. I would like to apologize for the incovenience that you had while staying with us for two nights. Unfortunately our room keys if you place them next to a credit card, set of car keys or cell phone that will deactivate them. I believe that was the problem with the room keys. Again I am sorry about the incovenience. Again thank you very much for staying with us and I hope you give us another opportunity to stay with us on your next trip to the area. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me." Needless to say I contacted her & again said I was asking for a partial refund her response via email was: "I hope you are doing great today. Thank you very much for replying back. I apologize again for all the incovenience. After speaking with my manager unfortunately we are not going to be able to do any refund back to you credit card. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me." The problem is what Victoria considers as an "inconvenience" I experience as a safety issue compounded by awful customer service. All that and I let her know this response was not acceptable, it's now been more than a week and despite my attempts to follow up and letting her know I would be filing complaints through multiple outlets, Victoria has not responded. I must admit my experience is much different than any other's I've read on yelp. The hotel itself is average, however, it is what occurred while I stayed there that defies all logic. What I'm about to impart upon anyone who reads this may leave them skeptical, but please believe me, it happened. First, it all started out like any other normal stay at any normal hotel. I checked in, went to my room, and unpacked. I'm from Chicago, and was in town on business. I spent most of then evening reviewing my notes for a presentation I was going to give the following morning. Around 8pm, I decided to take a break and grab a drink at the bar. This decision has forever changed my life. While at the bar, a woman approached me and sat next to me. We got to talking and she offered to buy me a drink. One drink led to two, then three, four. As I explained to my wife, I cannot explain what happened next. I don't know if this woman used some kind of a ray or a mind control device, but suddenly I found myself back at her room. It was there I received two pieces of information. This woman first revealed to me she was an alien. Of course, as I told my wife, I didn't believe her right away. It was only after she revealed to me the most horrific and devastating piece of information, that I began to believe her. I was told, in no uncertain terms, the date of the end of the world. February 14th, 2026, Valentines Day. The day when all life on Earth ends. My wife couldn't believe this as I told her and I don't blame anyone if they do not as well. All night long, the woman/alien went over and over all the plans leading up to the end of existence. At the end of the night, I found myself back in my hotel room, with a very painful headache (I assume from the mind control device). To this day my mind still reels from the bombardment of revelations, and of what's to come. Two questions still remain. One, was that actually a room at the Holiday Inn Paramus, or just a room on the alien's space ship? And two, why does my wife not completely believe my story? Overall, my stay was pleasant. Room smelled like mold, toilet wouldn't flush, trashy shampoo bottles, mysterious goo embedded into the desk, room keys didn't work (long, long walk back to front desk to get that fixed) and food that made me sick and throw up. This place was ok. The entrance is very well HIDDEN! Thank God there is a street right beside it that you can turn onto if you miss the entrance. Driving the speed limit, and trying to slow down to get into the parking lot, I feel is kinda impossible. So the side entrance is ideal. The man at the front desk was kind of helpful. He heard me mention I was hungry, so he gave us 3 menus of places that delivered. unfortunately he was not looking at the time and these places wouldn't deliver. They had free breakfast in the morning which is good considering I was on my way to class from here. I don't like the way the employees watch over the breakfast area, and stalk your every move. This hotel is pretty average Holiday inn express. But! The staff are amazing, everyone knows that the standard check in is 3:pm. We arrived on the red eye 6:am after getting a rental car and the 30 min drive to the hotel we were exhausted. We just hoped maybe we'd get lucky and get checked in to at least one of our 2 reserved rooms early. Management kNew we were tired and hungry not even checked in yet let us go enjoy their breakfast. Then at 9:am not only allowed early checkin on one room but both rooms reserved for our party. House keeping came by to make sure room was made up appropriately. Just one of the best check in experiences I've ever had. Usually when I arrive early on red eye flight I end up sleeping in my rental car out in the parking lot until 3:pm check in. But management saw we were a party of 6 exhausted travelers and accommodated us perfectly! Would definitely stay here again oh btw breakfast was quite good as well! read more

My husband and I came here the other night and had a traumatic experience. The bed in our room was wet, and when we called the manager, the person at the desk told us that it would be handles the next day. I found out that the bed had actually been peed on and when I asked to be switched to a different room I was told that there were no other rooms available, and that a $50 fee would be charged for the 5-10 min that we had already spent there. We had to get the cops involved to get a refund, as the manager was trying to pin the bed wedding incident on us. He was verbally abusive and extremely rude. Let see the room smelled like fish. We got bumped from our 2 bed room because we booked with Orbitz, the person behind the desk said she could put us were the wanted. We were told that we had a pullbout couch, we did not. We had to pay for a cot $10. We got bumped from our room for high school trip. The breakfast was aweful. The milk and yogurt cool was really warm. Oh ya the power went out. Turning in from or out to RT 17 is really hard for people not used to that kind of driving. WARNING! Bed bug infestation! I woke up with red marks all over my arm and back and had no idea what they were. Upon returning to my room the next evening and getting cozy in the bed- I noticed a few bed bugs crawling on the pillow next to me. Totally freaked out. Ew! Makes me skin crawl to think that while I was sleeping- these bugs were feasting on my skin and blood. I went to the front desk and the man said "oh we just put new carpet in- it must have come in with the new carpets, but we'll give you 2,000 bonus points " YEA RIGHT! My room was clean and quiet. There was adequate parking. There was no charge for the parking. The free breakfast was a typical holiday inn breakfast. The hotel is a two-story very long rectangular building. The parking lot is a circle around the hotel. Use caution because all traffic drives counterclockwise around the hotel. The parking also circles the building. The rooms appear to not have been updated recently and the lighting in the rooms appears to be from the 60s. The long hallways that extend the length of the building have low drop ceiling tiles and ancient looking carpeting. There is free coffee, hot tea with lemon and oatmeal packages 24 hours. The hotel is directly across the street from IKEA. It is a short drive to many restaurants and stores. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. Not a fancy hotel but not bad for a few days. read more

Stayed here recently for my wedding. We stayed in one of the suites. The room was nice and spacious, gave my wedding party a place to get together and wait for the limo. Had read all the reviews trying to find a convenient yet decent place to stay off of the Garden State and wasn't sure what to expect. Not at all disappointed, great front desk staff, good recommendations for dinner nearby. Clean. updated, and quiet rooms. Be very careful following GPS, enter the hotel parking lot as soon as it is available or you will end up back on the highway, was so glad others had pointed that out. Actual address on Prospect St. should be on the websites not the Route 17 address as GPS doesn't recognize it. Other than challenging location it is not at all bad for the $$ read more

In the beautiful lobby of this fine establishment, there is a bathroom. Using this bathroom, the women's room, proved to be an unforgettable experience. The bathroom represents everything that is right with America. It is impossible to describe the wonder of this restroom, but it undeniably makes the hotel experience worth your time. read more
