From the moment I stepped into the lobby to the time I opened my room, this older /aged hotel is not like the other Hyatt hotels I have stayed, but it wasn't that bad either. I paid $170 including taxes and fees for the first night and had enough points for the next 2 night, so it was a great deal for us for 3 nights. The room itself was good. Bed was comfortable, and the bathroom appears clean. TV worked well, and highway noise wasn't too bad. Breakfast, which included for all guest, was better than the traditional continental breakfast. Plenty of juices, cereal choices, bread and bagels, and hot food items. Without this offer, I think this hotel would be a C in my book. Overall, I would grade and give this hotel a B-. I had an OK experience at this Hyatt Place hotel. They have online check-in to expedite the check-in process, however, checking in was anything but seamless. Despite letting the front desk know I had already checked in and was charged for the night, including the incidental fee, I was still met with intrusive questions and was prompted multiple times I would have the standard incidental fee added. Confident these fees already showed up as transactions on my credit card, I asked the front desk to check their database and of course, the fees had already been assessed. I didn't make it a big deal, however, online check-in exists for a reason; to minimize such interactions by simply showing your photo ID, which I did. The quality of my guest room was not commensurate to the newly renovated hotel which is advertised online. The bathroom was dated. My toilet had a malfunctioning ballcock that restricted water flow, and had it not been for my handyman skills, this could have easily turned into me having to switch rooms which wasn't an option for me. It was late, the front desk was checking in other guests when I left the lobby, and it simply wasn't worth the engagement. The sofa also had ripped upholstery and its attached bed was worn. But for what it's worth, the night's stay served its purpose. I did appreciate the onsite parking. Overall an OK experience and I will visit again when in the area. read more

As you can see from my last review I stayed here last year with my friends. At that time I was pleased with my stay although my friends were disappointed with their stay because their room was impacted by Route 4 road noise. My room was in the rear of the hotel away from the Route 4 road noise. I booked my annual free complimentary king bedroom for a Thursday night stay at this hotel using my Hyatt app on my iPhone about one month prior to my stay. This time I was here solo to visit with my family in nearby Paramus. As you can see from my last review I liked this hotel. The hotel now offers direct texting like most other hotels, since they texted me the day prior to remind me of my stay. I parked my Audi in front of the hotel. My check-in went smoothly. My 309 king bedroom overlooked the front of the hotel overlooking Route 4 West. Everything in my room worked well without any problems. My room was comfortable. I did not experience any Route 4 road noise as my friends experienced last year. Complimentary breakfast of coffee, orange juice, scrambled eggs, bacon, and bananas were included. My checkout also went smoothly. I would return here again although I did plan another visit with my family in May. Except this time I will try another hotel located in nearby Paramus. One of the Worst Hotel Experiences I've Ever Had - Do Not Stay Here I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at the Hyatt in Paramus was so unprofessional and unacceptable that I feel compelled to warn others. From the moment I checked in, the front desk staff were eating with their mouths full while talking to me -- incredibly rude and unprofessional behavior. Despite the hotel advertising itself as pet-friendly, they overlooked that I had a pet during check-in, only to repeatedly call and harass me later about paying a pet fee, even though I had signed nothing regarding it. I felt targeted and harassed in my own room. They requested a $100 deposit on my credit card, assuring me it would "roll off" if I followed the rules (no parties or smoking). Then I saw a sign in the lobby warning about scam phone calls pretending to be the front desk -- ironically, I was repeatedly called and pressured to make payments, which felt like part of a scam. On top of that, I was randomly charged $14 for absolutely nothing. read more

However, once you start walking down the hallways and go into the room it's a whole different story.. went to sleep with my clothes and socks on refuse to touch the floor. I could assure you I will never stay at this hotel.. Called the reception from 6 AM to 6:30 AM nobody picked up the phone. I finally get downstairs. I go to the Starbucks section to order an espresso. The person immediately tells me the machine is broken. . I told him I called the Starbucks corporate office and they said that would be impossible . That being said, the worker turned the machine on and made me an espresso.. I've discovered that comedy greatly relaxes everyone. People mirror back what you put out typically. Tanisha the manager of 8 years was struggling to find a king bed with a tub after a few hours' effort. I'd reserved one but it was a matter of waiting out those late stragglers. That's when I reminded her that indeed we already had a king with a tub - and I gestured at my prodigious paunch commanding the lobby. Silence. Then we all laughed - at the fat man! I kid but yes we laughed. I'm not all that stout but it ensured they realized I wasn't just another demanding egotist but a reasonable fellow willing to work with them within their limitations. Now the folks running this place are just fine but here's a few ideas to improve. Spring for a big highway sign 800 feet before you happen upon the tiny driveway entrance just after a hairpin turn as you're screeching off the highway. That's a site issue. But there's a few other things here that make it not the Hyatt we've come to expect over the years: a bit worn, cramped lobby by Hyatt standards: a hot house-encased swimming pool on the side which is a no-go zone for us asthmatics; and a fairly Days Inn-level vibe to the breakfast and the overall clientele. But you pay a measly $150 for a sizable clean room with a comfortable king sized enormo-bed and now, a tub. I stayed three nights, two with a shower. Slept just fine each night. Anyway, I didn't come here to enjoy myself - I came here to work over the Memorial Day weekend and not entertain super models. And the quiet and work space was what I needed. Sure I could use a super model but they'd want room service. Nonsense aside, I must say that as a bit of an empath, as a compassionate fellow, I feel for the little armies of hardworking young room tidying staff, the front desk staff also in their twenties, all so earnest and I think how much harder their lives are than mine, working for far less, and I feel a little guilty for grousing about the little details. But, any business worth its salt looks for the critiques to improve. So let's keep this moving: whatever they use to clean these rather musky rooms with an asthmatic wall unit air conditioner is making it hard to breathe. That's just me. You should be fine. And my one unpleasant staff moment during my three day stay isn't worth mentioning because it passed in a sentence and all likely ten to fifteen other staff interactions were quite pleasant. Every single person made me feel welcome and they made every effort to help every time I asked - which was two or three times but still. 0 stars! OMG, worse hotel I've been at. No security at all. While sleeping, some random person walks in the hotel and starts pounding on several doors, including mine. We thought he was going to break down the door. Police finally show up and arrest the person. We genuinely feared for our lives. We left the hotel in the middle of the night. The hotel won't refund us even though there was an incident report filed. How is there no on in the lobby? How did this person walk right in, in the middle of the night? Thankfully nothing else happened, but it could of very easily could have. Clearly, safety is not important to the management of this hotel. I would steer clear and go somewhere else. read more

The room was a great size for a weeklong stay and the location in relation to NYC is very nice. A little tricky to get in and out of, but manageable. For the price, a couple of bigger issues. First, age and wear are very noticeable. The side door which should be security locked, wouldn't shut and latch without help. The bigger issue to me was the air. I don't know much about HVAC, but in a hotel room where windows do not open, it needs to be better. Stale swamp is the best I can describe it as. It made it hard to stay in the room to work. I'd give it a 2.5 if possible, but I'll lean lower with this system as for the roughly $150 cost, it doesn't measure up. read more

The hostess was rude, arrogant and made me feel "oh why did I go here". There was no one else at the front desk though it took several minutes to notice me. I was not greeted with a welcome, thank you.... It was a frowning woman who clearly did not care whether I stayed here or down the street. To worsen matters the hall smelled like sewage. This hotel is a nice and convenient hotel when you need a place to stay in Bergen County, NJ. Since my last stay a few years ago, they have begun some renovations. The lobby, bar, and breakfast areas have been updated, and are more inviting. It appears they are still working on the rooms, however. My guest room had a nicely updated shower with KenetMD skin and haircare products! The bed was comfortable with good quality bedding, and the towels were also much nicer. The sofa, however, stained, and the living area furniture had signs of wear. Having a refrigerator and wet bar was convenient, and the coffeemaker, although still very basic, was brand new. I also took advantage of the Headspace options on the hotel's tv network. Free wifi and breakfast is included in the room price. There were a variety of cold and hot breakfast option, and I was pleasantly surprised that milk alternatives were offered for cereals. I took advantage of The Placery cafe one night, and enjoyed a delicious grilled chicken sandwich with bacon, tomato, arugula on sourdough bread. The hotel also has "grab and go" options, desserts and espresso drinks for purchase. In addition, I was very happy to see the health and safety efforts, and limited contact options. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and would book accommodations again if needed for future work situations. read more

Our room was one of the most thoughtfully arranged rooms we have ever stayed in. We had a King bed with Sleeper Sofa room. The bed was very comfortable with an appropriate amount of covers and pillows. There was an alarm clock/radio with USB ports on one side of the bed; the other had a charging station with 2 USB ports and 2 electrical outlets. The heating/cooling unit was efficient and as quiet as could be expected. No fiddling with the unit to get the temperature right! The toilet and shower were together behind a door. The shower was spacious with easy-to-use controls. The water temperature and pressure were both good. The bathroom vanity outside of the door were well-appointed with mirrors and counter space. The sofa was quite large and comfortable (although there were some 'sunken' spots where I sank down too low). We did not use the pull-out bed. The lighting over the sofa was a negative. There were two wall-mounted lamps, but the lighting was harsh and there was no way to adjust the lighting (no dimmer or 3 way switch to reduce the amount of light). There was a wet bar next to the coffee maker and refrigerator - no waiting to get water from the bathroom sink! Across from that area was a good sized desk with a good desk lamp and access to USB and electrical outlets. The TV was mounted on the wall with ample swivel so that it could be viewed from the bed area or the sofa area. Good quality reception. Below the TV was a cube-like storage area - great for easy access to often used items. The breakfast buffet was good. There was ample seating, spaced out so that we were not seated too close to other tables. Eggs, sausage, breakfast potatoes, pancakes and oatmeal were the hot options. Several cereal choices, bread choices and fruit options. Three types of juice and several varieties of milk, coffee and tea. Overall, we were extremely pleased with our stay. Had planned to stay for 1 week for a dire family emergency & hotel saw the need to hold my credit card for not only the full amount of the stay but also an additional $800 for incidentals. Manager claimed that hold was $100 PER NIGHT which is complete BS. I've stayed at much higher end hotels that did not do that. She was unwilling to do anything about it & told me to call my credit card co. to dispute it. I'm here for my dying mother & don't have time to jump thru hoops for this nonsense. Clerks at check-in weren't very competent. My clerk struggled with the process & with trying to fit 3 keycards into the small keycard envelope. Another clerk said they didn't have amenities when my daughter asked for toothbrushes since we forgot them. Another guest promptly got a toothbrush the next night upon request. Was there some profiling since we're Asian? It definitely felt that way. Breakfast area was filthy and unsanitary with communal open bowls of yogurt & fruit. Surfaces were clearly not wiped down during the entire service time since it was covered with crumbs, dried egg and sticky spots. It was gross especially in light of Covid & obviously did not meet food safety/ health codes. Staff serving was surly when asked for a bowl when there's none to be found. The room felt gross and was damp, humid, and smelled of mildew. Opening the curtains confirmed the feeling as the walls and windows were just covered in condensation. Room size was nice and amenities were fine. But its hard to enjoy your stay when the air is so heavy with humidity that it makes it hard to breath while sleeping. read more

If my expectation was to have my family step in dog shit left on the carpeted hallway that would not be cleaned for a half hour then my Hyatt Elite status far exceeded my expectations. Not only did my family step in the shat upon carpet, lots of guests did. The carpet color, who knows maybe was another color but now looks like dog shit camouflage. After earning Hyatt Elite status and using points to purchase rooms for a family wedding, I was alerted breakfast was not included. This was resolved after a few hours but should not have taken more than a minute. There is no price downstairs on the breakfast, one staff member seemed to scurry around with an iPad, I assume charging some people for what looked like an included breakfast for everyone. When we arrived late Saturday I had a flatbread sort of pizza but with prosciutto that was very good otherwise I'd give 1 star. No this breakfast issue is angering me too much for 2 stars. Hyatt is making a shift to charge some people for breakfast. Well make the rules w/ prices, I'm certain some will be surprised when the bill comes. The pool was nice with great warm puffy towels. The room towels had the consistency of 20 grit sand paper. Water pressure was quite low. My little one asked why is there so much trash in the woods behind the hotel. These rooms are super spacious! The standard rooms comes with a living room space, walk in space and the sleeping area is sectioned off. The front staff are excellent, especially with answering questions about the area, getting around and things to do. The hotel isn't within walking distance of anything so it's good to have a car. They have a good assortment of snack foods, and a decent breakfast but very limited seating. The business center computers are super slow. odd number rooms face the highway so expect a lot of loud noise pollution. Decent place to stay for the price, but definitely not a great location. read more

This Hyatt was good, but could have been a lot better. It is spacious in the room itself, which could have easily been extended to the bathroom, which is super cramped. The door hits the toilet when you try to close it, which is unnecessary because there is plenty of room in the actual room itself to have made the bathroom a little bit bigger. That being said, it comes with a large comfy bed, lounge area and friendly assistants. They will accomodate late checkout as well so I would recommend this place. I'm a single dad and this hotel has been my go to spot for weekend visits with my children. The kids love the indoor pool they enjoy the complementary breakfast. The staff is always accommodating when they can be as I've checked in early on most visits and if available they make it easy... I want to say the staff is very friendly and the rooms are a great value if you can book under $120 a night on the weekends. read more

They tell you they are taking every precaution due to the Covid situation but this is only true when it comes to room cleaning which they only do 3 times a week. I opt not to have any cleaning at all which is fine. They specify when making the reservation that all guest should wear masks but they are not enforcing it while guests are in public areas of the hotel such as in the elevator, hallways and lobby area. Upon check in since breakfast is included they failed to inform me that I should Order breakfast the night before due to "COVID". I find this out when I head downstairs the next morning to get breakfast. The staff who work at the desk do not have uniforms or names tags since they wear jeans, sneakers and a tshirt and make you feel like your interrupting them when asking a question. When I complained about the "pot" smell in the hallway seeping into my room they did not respond. When I asked for a remote control for my TV since the one in the room wasn't working I was told to go down and get it. These are just a few things that happened within the last 3 days spent in this hotel and would be my last. I should also mention the mold on the shower and old noisy bed. read more

They over sold the hotel which led to my Grandparents being without a room all while trying to quickly get ready for my aunts funeral after a 10 hour car ride from VA. Good place to stay. Courteous staffs and the room is always clean. The best part is the breakfast. Food selection is excellent, they have variety dried fruits and zucinni bread, spinich knishes, much better quality bacon and more. Also the they serve hot foods in Le Creuset pans, which I never seen at any other places. Everything looks and taste like gourmet foods. No other hotel provides breakfast for free with this quality. Hotel is your standard Hyatt. Positives: Depending on room, you get a full size couch/sectional included, electronic hookups for videogames if you are traveling with kids, a comfortable bed, fridge/microwave and overall clean space. Also, there is a heated pool on premises, which is a major plus for some! Growth areas: Add some weights or abs in the gym room please:) The gym has like 3 treadmills and that's it. There is no real room service, which is cool for some, but may be a turn off for others. You have to go to the lobby to grab food. The breakfast was ok...there was bread, but no bagels or muffins...which was a little strange. I would recommend this hotel, for a quick staycation weekend or if you need some rest. I've stayed at many Hyatt's for 25 years ..although the hotel is clean the upper staff are some of the least helpful I've ever encountered anywhere in the US ... their inability to help you when you're in a real pinch was just a complete pain even all the way up to the manager Mary Haft..and Alex Campos and the assistant manager.. no relief. Needless to say other Hyatt's don't treat you this way, this one just seems to be run from the top down poorly. The staff were trying to be helpful but the upper level management just made it very very difficult by being stuck on very minuscule points... Recently stayed at the hyatt for 5 days and I couldnt be happier with my stay. Checked in at about 11pm, and Mariana at the front desk had the reservation information all ready which made checking in so much easier. Any issues I had a throughout my stay was fixed by Justin and all of the other helpful staff at the front desk. I was able to stay in both a room with a king bed and a room with 2 double beds. Both rooms had a living room area and were about equal in size, but the bathroom with the king bed was bigger. The rooms were very clean and i was happy with them both Breakfast at the hyatt is pretty good. Depending on the day they serve bacon or sausages and have eggs and potatoes as well as an assortment of cereals and breads and bagels. Overall, i was very happy with my stay and the helpfulness of the staff at the Hyatt in Fairlawn. Goinng to check in again soon! read more

In comparison to all the other Hyatt's I've been to, this one is not the top of my list. On a positive side the hotel staff were very friendly. Some negatives were: 1. Shuttle broke down for a day and didn't have a back up. 2. There is no "room service". You can order food but had to pick it up in the front desk. The food I ended up ordering wasn't that great and the chips that came with it were stale. 3. There was a bug crawling around the bathroom mirror. I noticed as I was brushing my teeth. This hotel was fantastic! We stood for a weekend. The staff and employees were friendly and courteous. It was clean and housekeeping were like elves. Working when we weren't around. The breakfast consisted of waffles, eggs, fruits, oatmeal, toast, cereal with various milk options: whole, skim, 2% and even almond milk! And of course coffee, tea, orange juice and apple juice. The kids had a great time. They went to the pool and they loved not having to make up the beds. The hotel is nearby the mall, there were a lot of restaurants to eat in. There is a ShopRite nearby too. We went there to get drinks and snacks. The room accommodated all 6 of us, 2 beds and one sofa bed. There was one tv that can be seen by all the beds. The movies were costly though. There was a small refrigerator, and a coffee pot in the room. Ice machine is on the third floor. The pool and the gym is on the 1st floor. Tip: when going into the pool, after inserting your key card, you need to pull the handle up to get in. read more

I am highly disappointed with what I just experienced. Last Saturday there was a snowstorm with 6 inches coming down at the time I was supposed to be driving to this hotel. I physically could not make it there due to the weather. I have been trying to speak to a manager all week regarding moving my reservation I had for this upcoming weekend instead. After finally getting a hold of the GM, not even the manager who apparently was supposed to be in an hour prior to my call but still was not in, accommodating my stay is just impossible to do. I am a repeat customer at this location and could not see how this would be an issue. But unfortunately it was. I have a suite booked for next month in a different Hyatt location, but I will now be canceling that and switching to a different hotel who i hope can be more accommodating to their paying customers. read more

I want to start off by saying the staff was absolutely amazing-friendly, helpful and fun. We had a check-in hiccup that was not their fault (hotel.com screwed up) but they fixed it quickly and upgraded our room to a corner room that had been recently renovated. From that moment on, it was a bunch of minor annoyances that made they stay less than 5 stars. 1. TV remote worked only when it wanted to 2. No option to cast a movie from my device 3. Toilet only fully flushed when it wanted to (had to double and triple flush a more than half the time) 4. No pamphlet or booklet in the room to tell us anything about our hotel/room/floor 5. Phone was not plugged in 6. Power bank attached to wall above nightstand WAS plugged in but did not work 7. Blackout curtains had several holes in them. As our windows faced the Highway, I could see lights coming through all night 8. There was an odd scent when entering the room. I imagine it was a cleaning product but it had an underlying "ick" odor 9. Free breakfast was the expected buffet but anything hot (waffles, sausage) was hard and lukewarm while the bagels were a bit stale. Coffee was Starbucks brand but very weak. 10. At a few spots in the room, we noticed trim missing 11. no vending on 4th floor (not sure about other floors) and when we called down asking about ice we were told the machine was broken but we could come to the desk to get some. -Only stayed one night so we did not test out the shower -Bed and pillows were very comfy Again, STAFF WAS AMAZING- amenities and room were "meh" read more

First thing I noticed when I pulled this up on Yelp is that there weren't many reviews. Maybe people in Jersey aren't big Yelpers, but have to say this place is pretty nice. It's randomly off the highway with no distinct exit. The rooms are a good size, plenty big for one person. Looking forward to a good nights rest and hopefully a satisfying breakfast. This is the second Hyatt Place I've been to (visited friend's that stayed at the Seattle location) and have to say they've done a nice job creating a "look". Modern, trendy and welcoming. They just need some cookies when you check in like Double Tree! Also wanted to note the excellent service that Jerry at the front desk provided. Convenient location at intersection of Rotes 4, 17 and I-80 and all of the Paramus NJ malls / shopping. Well and of course it is easy trip into the big apple NYC by car when entering via GW Bridge. Room we had on 1st floor was very comfortable , modern and clean. We were here with our small emotional support dog and even he seemed very content. Front desk staff are kind , helpful with all questions. At 4:30AM I asked her to make a coffee and she pleasantly did so. We will stay her again as we have family to visit in the area. read more

I've found myself in Bergen County, NJ for the week, and found this Hyatt Place right next to Paramus to be very convenient, comfortable and generally accommodating. I couldn't beat the price either - under $70 on Priceline. Granted that I did a "name your own price" so I wasn't sure where I'd end up. I wasn't disappointed. The multi-function lobby is functional with a front desk coffee counter, beer and wine bar, breakfast area and 24 hour "snack shop." All the staff was helpful and efficient. My room was VERY spacious with a separate seating area with a small sectional couch, a small dining table, wet bar with fridge and work area - all away from the sleeping area. The room has a pretty sweet 42" plasma that swivels between the two areas and has all the hook-ups you might need easily accessible. A pet peeve of mine in hotel rooms is a lack plugs in sensible areas. Not a problem here. Good lighting too. The location is a big of a challenge: the entrance off the highway comes right up on you, and exiting into the traffic is a bit hairy. Nothing like jumping right into Jersey traffic first thing in the morning! read more

I always choose this hotel when on business in the tri-state area. The hotel is typical of Hilton Garden Inn, Courtyard Marriott, etc. Basically, it's ok. The location is so good that I'll stay here over a Westin and give my boss a break on my expenses. Easy access to both NYC (half hour) and other parts of NJ from this location. A couple of blocks from the hotel, there is a lovely walking / biking trail around the Saddle River. Love relaxing here after work! Have I mentioned that Paramus is a shopper's paradise, especially if you are a bargain hunter like me? Loehman's, I'll be back soon! As for the hotel - flat screen tvs, comfy beds, nice decor, free breakfast in the morning, huge rooms. Always have new releases available for purchase on the movie channel. The hotel staff is nice, and I can almost always walk in and get a room without having to make a reservation in advance. No full service restaurant, but plenty of places nearby for a bite. Oh, and the best Whole Foods known to man is down the street. Enough said. read more

Not up to Hyatt standard. Our room was unusable due to an extremely loud mechanical buzzing noise at irregular intervals. The noise penetrated earplugs, our white noise machine, and pillows over our heads. We called the front desk, but the night clerk never got back to us as promised. There was no explanation and no offer of another room. The next morning the desk clerk told us the manager would refund the price of the room. After prolonged negotiations with the booking agency, the hotel eventually refunded only a few dollars, not the full price as promised. The manager has not returned our call. We lost a night's sleep during an important trip, with no apology or explanation, and no full refund. There are other hotels in the area; stay somewhere else. read more

Average place nicest in area but very isolated, you need a car! The offer shuttle service to local area but during the week I was here it was in the ship more than in service. They do offer a car service when this happens but the drivers will ask to be paid (even tho they bill the hotel) in other words try to scam guests. It's happened on two speedster occasions during my stay. The accommodations itself, just OK. My room was comfortable (312). I found a partial candy wrapper on the carpet and I couldn't use the tub itself because the plug was broken. The smoke detector above the tv was held together with duct tape. The best thing about this hotel was its staff. From housekeeping to front desk they were awesome, friendly and helpful. The hotel needs revamp even thou the soft upgrades helps with the pics it's the little details that would make it a four star. Location, little issues and shuttle hiccups I give it a three star but it could easily be a four or five for the area it's located in. read more
