This hotel was nice and the location was convenient to reach all the fairgrounds for the OBX Car Show. This hotel is quaint and clean. We paid for a room with a king size bed and when we arrived they put us in a room with two full size beds. The receptionist informed us that WE must have made a mistake when we registered. We had the screenshot of our confirmed reservation but the receptionist said that that the King size beds were no.longer available. We paid on advance so we were stuck. The room was clean, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, dining chair and table. The balcony offered a great beach view. Unless I could guarantee a king bed for our next trip, I would not stay here again. Weird for a couple's trip to look at each other and wave Goodnight during a vacation. read more

Stayed recently and was disgusted by my room (that I had to pay extra for oceanfront ) there was used soap on the tub edge , and a bloody pillow on the bed. Luckily I saw the blood through the pillowcase ! I told front desk and they sent someone to collect pillow and give me a new one. Never heard a peep from management and wonder where this pillow ended up ? Needed to be destroyed.! It was almost like they didn't care . Breakfast was great. We stayed here for two nights for our baby moon, and for the price, I was hoping for a bit of a cleaner place. The lobby, halls, and elevator all have an unpleasant unique smell. Our room was not as unclean as others on here, although it certainly left something to be desired. We paid extra for ocean front but our windows were so dirty and gross that we couldn't even enjoy the view. The breakfast was fine, the eggs were quite suspicious but other than that it was just a below average hotel breakfast. The elevators are clearly in need of maintenance. They really concerned me as they would attempt to close at least 5 times before actually doing it. In this case I would have just used the stairs, but I am 7 months pregnant and we were on the 6th floor, that was not going to happen. These elevators seriously need inspected asap. The staff we interacted with were kind and helpful. We will not be returning as for the price, I would expect much better conditions. read more

There is no handicap access to the beach, The repairs made are sloppy. There were fellyfish on the beach and in the water but no warnings wee posted. My wife and I took a weekend break and went to the beach. First we made a reservation online for a room with one bed. After getting to our room we had two small beds. The place doesn't look very nice. There was only one elevator working and it is very small, hope your not claustrophobic. The room was very warm and the ac would only go down to 70. We did have a nice view from our room and there is easy access to the beach. They also have hot breakfast in the mornings but the eggs were very bland. It cost us just over $600 for two nights. I was told by my wife that was the cheapest place she could find and she is good at finding cheap things (she did marry me lol). Always friendly staff and they are very customer service oriented. We had a sink that was draining slowly and after we mentioned it they were on it immediately and problem was fixed. Breakfast options are great for a traditional continental breakfast. The rooms were clean and spacious (we had 2 people). Note to management....taking care of the little things goes a long way...meaning repairs. Match your staff, rooms, service and breakfast with some well needed repairs. These are a couple of things noticed in the bathroom by the Conference room (see pic). Also notice our bathroom spout in the shower was coming away from the wall which leads me to believe water could be running into the wall. It's not worth losing customers over minor repairs which collectively make it look like you dont care about the investment you have in this hotel. This hotel is very outdated. The elevator doesn't work well. It's extremely small. The door glitches and takes a while to open. The room itself has mold on the ceiling, very outdated as well. The smell in the front lobby of some type of artificial air freshener / cheap scent very strong is so overpowering it will make you nauseous. The bathroom lighting is disgusting has bugs from quite awhile in the clear panel and the silver is rusted. The refrigerator temp doesn't work; everything you put in there freezes rock solid and temp adjustment doesn't work. Carpets need cleaning. The front door to the room doesn't close all the way by itself; you have to forcefully shut it each time. AND you get to hear the housekeeping screaming all day "heads up" literally ALL during the morning/day over and over and over countless times. This is more like a HOTEL 6. Hadn't stayed at a Clarion down here, so we thought we'd try it. Staff was nice and accommodating. Parking was good. Even though the website said no hot breakfast, there was - a pleasant surprise. The refrigerator leaked water a few times, making a wet floor, and the bed is really in need of a new mattress! My biggest thing was the accessible bathroom only had one bar in the shower and the toilet was a regular low toilet. This is not to ADA standards and probably should not have been listed as a fully accessible bathroom! Then there's the Internet speed: it was horrible! At night we'd try to watch stuff on our TiVo or Netflix. Forget that! The download speed was never over 1.5Mbps any of the five nights we were here. For the money, this place is alright hotel. They offer a government rate, and for about $150 a night you'll be sleeping right next to the ocean. We had a room facing the ocean with a great view of the pier and on friday it had a great view of the OBX shoot out contest. Unfortunately, the window also had a view of the back porches of rental homes on the beach, which meant we got to watch people my parent's age go at it naked in a hot tub in daylight. The entire day friday. It's like watching a train wreck you can't peel your eyes away, although you really want to. Yeah I hope you're reading this Ethel and Bob, good job keeping the romance alive, but could you at least turn on the jets please. The perks: Free continental breakfast. The large breakfast room has a belgian waffle maker, and copious amounts of biscuits and gravy in the buffet. Right off Croatian Highway, with lots of parking. The sweetest staff around. They always ask about your day, fill your water bottles and jugs, help you jam six longboards in an elevator. Dog friendly Feels like a dorm. Third Floor smells like weed, Fourth floor leaves their doors open and has coolers of beer in the hall. Great deck facing the ocean with comfortable lounging chairs. The bad stuff: Bathrooms are questionable. The ceiling tiles are made of that spongey material you see classrooms and offices, the kind were you can throw a pencil up and it will stay in the tile. The ceiling was also really low, I could reach up and touch it, so it made for a small bathroom. Hot water shortage, had a cold shower on the last day. Gym consists of one threadmill, one bike and a TV. Comforter is a DNA sample. Although this is true of all hotels. Dogs with some serious anxiety disorders, howl throughout the night. Came and stayed for a friend's wedding. I've known the hotel for 30+ years. A lot of upgrades over the years.The pool is being opened soon. Continental breakfast is one of the best I've had at the past several hotel/motels I've stayed at. The front desk staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and pleasant. Housekeeping is great. The breakfast crew is super nice. The building is old and is constantly being worked on and maintained. The best thing about this hotel , it's the tallest building on the beach. At 7 stories, no other building is that tall. All other hotels are only 4 stories. Come and stay for a great view, great staff, and 7-11 on the corner.... read more

The location is unbeatable, but the hotel can use some love. The hotel is right on the ocean, if you book an oceanfront room you will have a small patio with a view of the ocean, which is AMAZING! The hotel has a private pool, and a really nice deck that leads right to the beach, this was very convenient and an amazing amenity. We also thought all of the employees were very kind and wonderful!! 3 stars because the breakfast isn't very good, and the hotel itself needs some work. It didn't ever feel super clean, the stairwell was dirty, and the elevator is very old and slow. The room is OK, but needs an update. I think this place is definitely worth it though for the views, beach access, good customer service, and their private patio out back that leads right to the beach. We stayed here briefly for a friend's wedding. We checked in on Friday and left Saturday morning. Hotel check in is supposed to be at four but we called Friday morning and spoke with Jessica and she was able to lock us into a room that was already clean so we could check in a little before 4 since we were coming in from out of town. Management would not take any action because I (unfortunately) booked it through Priceline, whom I am disputing the $330/night charge. If I could give it a minus rating I would. First the hotel is under construction, which we were not told when we booked our stay. But Ok, stuff needs to be maintained. Walk into the lobby and it is small, cramped and has an odor. The clerks at the desk its a 50/50 crap shoot! One was welcoming and one was not, she just grimaces at you. Even in the morning when you pass by the desk and say, Good Morning, she just looks over her glasses at you and grumbles. Trying to get your luggage to your room is another challenge. The luggage carts are small, more like a hand truck and hard to work with. There are 2 elevators in the hotel, but only 1 works, barely! Took almost 20 minutes to get an elevator and it is small. Just about get the luggage cart in. Walk into the room and there is nothing good I can say except for maybe the view. However the window was so dirty you could not see it. If the window had ever been cleaned you might be able to enjoy it. Open the door to the terrace and it you will find decaying walls and stucco, a door that has been repaired to just barely stay on. But the view was great! The only good thing about this place. The room its self was dirty, grimy and I would bet had not been cleaned in quite some time. The bathroom had an odor and mold in many places in the shower and tub. The vanity had a layer of grim on the lower shelf that had been there for many years! I took some cleaner and a rag and washed down the shelf, I had to throw the rag away. I continued to clean the bathroom and furniture before we could even think to use it. The shower was pitiful, low water pressure and a shower rod that was barely attached! I was waiting for it to fall off every time we moved the curtain. As we were completing our look over of the room I noticed a large, almost 2" gap at the bottom of the room door. A bit un-nerving as anyone could place a camera under the door, or any thing could walk under the door. Some cardboard and duck tape took care of that as I had to seal up the space. Breakfast, well that was another disappointment. Now we never expect anything great at these, but something that was inviting and a clean area would be nice. The food overall looked greasy, the waffle area was a mess, and the coffee pot was empty. The person working the breakfast area said if you want coffee go to the lobby. WHAT? We never ate breakfast there as there are many places just down the road. Outside the hotel, in the parking lot, we encountered an interesting array of people hanging out drinking and having a goodtime. This seemed to be a regular every night occurrence. One night they even setup tables and a bar-b-q and were there well into the night. On the beach side there is a deck for people to sit an socialize. Very nice, except when people are out there until the wee hours of the morning drinking and carrying on right under your window. One night it sounded like a fight broke out, lots of noise and banging and the hotel staff does nothing about it. A sleepless night for sure! We cut our visit short as we completed what we were there for and found no reason to stay a minute longer. The area, Nags Head and the outer banks was great, beautiful beaches, sunsets and sun rises, but the hotel left a lot to desire and gave us no reason to stay. The people also gave us no reason to stay as many were not friendly. Hey I understand it can be taxing on your nerves living and working in a vacation resort area and dealing with many outsiders during the season. But that is where your lively hood and income comes from, your tourist and visitors so suck it up, put a smile on your face and adjust your attitude. Overall I would avoid this hotel at all costs! In general, the hotel is run down and should be knocked down. This was the MOST disgusting place I've ever stayed. The only reason we selected it was due to Choice Hotel reputation, previous experience with Choice Hotels and they are dog friendly. We were wrong! Find someplace else! read more

Only one elevator out of two works; according to other reviews this has been the case for a long time. The remaining elevator broke down for several hours during my 1 week stay. Housekeeping is poor. During my 1 week stay, they did not change the bed sheets, they did not clean the dirty toilet. (Had they left cleaning supplies, I would have spent 3 minutes cleaning the toilet). No vacuuming until someone leaves. All they do is pick up towels from the floor, and empty trash cans. In general, the hotel is run down. I'll look for a different place next time. read more

Consider this a negative zillion star review. I would not go near that place if they gave me a room for the night. I spent a day washing everything and trying to shake the eebeejeebies off because that place is so gross and dirty. The money we paid for a room went into someone's pocket because it is not going back into the business There was only one slow old elevator out of two that worked. The heavy cigarette smoke in the hallways needs to be cleaned (this means renovation which the owners surely don't want to spring for) The room needs a paint job - paint chips fell on my head when I opened the curtain The shower curtain rod needs straigtening - the shower curtain did not stay closed The window, the only thing we got for our money was the view, and we had to clean the grimy window because we could not see through all the dirt The sheet on the bed had stains Obviously they cut corners on cleaning the duvet it is surrounded by a sheet and a thin spread. Yuck. There was a full coffee cup sitting on the shelf in the closet yuck again The breakfast included yesterday's (or earlier??) food stacked on top of today's- yuck I grabbed one piece of bread, it was hard, grabbed the next, it was also hard and gave up on bread. The chocolate muffins tasted stale The person checking me in looked as if she did not want to be bothered (not because I was an ass like I am being now this was when I first walked up and I was nice and easygoing I love people and enjoy good customer service) there is no evidence of risers or sprinklers in the room in case of fire the internet was super slow the manager had the nerve to apologize and ask if I would stay again so they could 'make it up to me' oh sure give them more money so I can be trapped in that garbage mess of a building when it collapses. Don't waste your money! We didn't plan on staying in a hotel but the rain ruined are camping trip and this was the closest hotel at the time. The "hotel" itself is dated and dirty, doesn't look like it's been cleaned in years. Our bathroom drain didn't work. We got a street view room with military discount and it was still steep for the overall quality. The heater had a bunch of black stuff in the vents that started coming out once we turned it on. It was truly a waste of money, the MOTEL we stayed at for the next two nights was a lot cleaner, the rooms were renovated and it was cheaper. And yes that was a MOTEL. Ohhh my god. This place. My very first one-star review. It's literally falling apart. I realize they're under construction, but the overhanging where cars park so people can check in is just wood and hanging plastic. The room was booked using a third-party site and that completely threw off the lady at the front desk (who paused helping us to take a personal call from a friend). The rooms look kind of like they've been recently renovated, but not that much. The windows were SO DIRTY that paying for an oceanside view almost wasn't worth it since you couldn't see anything. The beach must be under construction of some sort as well, because the only thing going across the sand were bulldozers. All of the patios have heavy, large metal doors with bolts to get outside, and most of the rooms have the same heavy door connecting other rooms. The showers were freezing at all different times of the day, on two different days. The room felt a little grimy and even the windows outside the room were super dirty and foggy as well. The parking lot was half buried under sand and you could hear the wind howling all across the hotel. Breakfast was okay if you like breakfast foods - a waffle maker, maybe three kinds of cereal and some sort of hot plate that might've had food on it earlier in the morning. Nothing for non-breakfast eaters though. I hope they pull it together soon. They've got a nice location and kind of friendly staff, but the rooms are just so gross and the outside appearance is so unappealing that I don't think I want to go back. read more

Careful when booking here through Expedia as the rooms you book may not be available when you arrive. We booked two pet rooms and paid the extra fees. Then when we arrived, they informed us that we could not stay there since all the pet rooms were under renovation. Manager was not the nicest and was difficult to work with. We ended up booking rooms at another nearby comfort inn, which were significantly more expensive. Could have been a better experience and it's not something we wanted to deal with on the first day of our 2-day beach trip, but I'm glad we found a place to stay. We were originally told our room would be ready at 4 pm instead of the original 12 pm to allow for extra cleaning. Therefore we got ready to go to the beach. Most of us were already laying on the beach when we found out we did not have a room. The hotel does have convenient beach access, a hose and shower, spacious porch with ample seating, pool, and bathrooms all accessible from the 2nd floor. read more

I booked this hotel room just a few days before our trip after my husband had found us an oceanfront hotel but without an ocean view room. We were placed on the seventh floor and loved the view from our balcony. The hotel is a short walk from Jennette's Pier and a close driving distance to many Nags Head attractions. The hotel is pet friendly as I saw people with pets, but I don't think all rooms allow pets. We had a non smoking room and were told that soon we would not be allowed to smoke on the balcony. It would have been nice to have an option for a bigger bed but this may have been because we booked late. The breakfast option was great. Waffles, sausage, and all the typical things you would find at breakfast. Very clean and well run. The access to the beach and pool were easy. This hotel was a great find and we will certainly consider staying here again. read more

If I could give negative stars, I absolutely would! This was the MOST disgusting place I've ever stayed. We booked two nights and left after one with no refund...it was that bad. The worst part was the cockroach infestation in the room, we didn't sleep a wink during the single night we were there because we were constantly scanning the walls and ceilings for giant roaches. They seemed to come from the ceiling vent, large cracks under the interior and exterior doorways, and the shower drain. There were cracked deck structures which were visible from the ground outside (envision the Florida Condo collapse), and no sprinkler systems in the rooms which is a fire safety violation (photo included). The deck access to the beach pointed you into the dune grass instead of the beach which made no sense (photo included). Sandpaper-feeling sheets and towels, walls coated in 100 layers of paint, dented/cracked lampshades. Everything was dirty and majorly outdated throughout the entire building, inside and out. Staff was unfriendly, weren't even following their OWN mask mandate rules, and instead of asking if there was anything they could do to change the minds of unhappy customers they just said "You realize we cannot give you a refund for the second night, right?" Don't even get me started about the outrageous price! It should have been a 5-star resort for how much we paid. It couldn't have been worse, shame on that establishment for their lack of service and upkeep. Save your sanity and DO NOT STAY HERE!!! read more

We were probably the noisiest room on our floor so I can't remark on sound muffling. TV mildly outdated. Elevators conservatively sized. Front desk staff are courteous and well-versed in the nitty gritty details of local bars and grub-- not difficult when the area's a barren wasteland of potential for alcoholics. Lounge space by the entrance makes for a cozy taxi wait. Ice and a minifridge to subsidize our liver habits. Truly a nice and relaxing hotel that is right by the beach! My partner and I stopped here after driving some hours into the night to the beach in North Carolina. We were offered a room with or without a balcony. Since we were just staying a night, we opted for one without the balcony. However, the view from our room was just awesome. You could see the beach right there! Literally, just inches away. They have the traditional continental breakfast. However, you can take your breakfast outside on the patio and just enjoy the fresh ocean breeze. This could have gotten 5 stars except that when you get off the elevators, all you smell is stale cigarette smoke. They must have put all the smoking rooms near the elevators and the non-smoking rooms in the back. So, don your Michael Jackson nose mask before you get off the elevators. read more

We were nothing but nice to her, yet our entire stay she talked to us in a rude tone and belittled us. Great location, but extremely outdated and gross inside. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and did not feel clean. Paper thin walls and issues when flushing the toilet. Got over charged an extra $70 to my credit card multiple days later after my stay, and when I called to question this charge they acted like they had no idea what it was about. I was stern and persistent and eventually got my money back. They apologized and said they didn't know what happened and it was an accident. Brandi at the front desk was the rudest employee. I arrived after a 12 hour drive and provided my phone for her to see my reservation. She ignored it and asked me for my name. I provided my name. She then informed me that I owe $700 for my reservation. I told her that was not correct because I paid everything upfront through Orbitz. She huffed and puffed and made me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. I didn't want to argue (especially after a 12hr drive) I gave her my card and she charged the $700. She then printed my statement for me to sign, when I looked at it I saw that it wasn't even my name. I told her she pulled the wrong reservation.
