The reason I give this hotel 4 stars: You can tell some of the "out-dated" details have just been painted over, the pool area had ants/was a little messy, and our room could use some small repairs. AND (here's the biggest issue) My Nana went in and asked about having a birthday party. The front desk attendant was very kind and said that they could absolutely do it. My Nana then purchased the room. Later on, a week or so later, my Nana returned to make sure everything was still all good. The front desk attendant this time was extremely rude. She told my Nana that they "don't do birthday parties". My Nana informed her that she was told they did and that's why she purchased a room. The attendant retorted with "well it's only 4 adults to a room so that's all that can come". Luckily, another guest chimed in and told the attendant that there were 3 birthday parties the prior weekend! My Nana also informed the attendant that it would only be my sister (9), a baby, and a handful of adults and there would not be an issue. The attendant reluctantly consulted the manager who, per the attendant, said "well can do it this time, but no more." When we went in for her party, we were met with a kind desk attendant and staff. Maybe this was just a fluke, but it was enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. TLDR; Greenfield Inn and Suites made for a fun 9th birthday party and yummy breakfast despite the inconsistent information/hospitality from staff.

The staff Jennifer and Carline were friendly and welcoming during check-in/check-out, making the process quick and easy. Their pool area is cute and good for families and kids. Another big plus was the excellent price for the stay--it was very reasonable for the quality and comfort we received. The location is also very convenient, with lots of restaurants and other hotels nearby, which made it easy to grab food and relax for the night. We decided to stay here because of the great reviews, and I'm happy to say they were absolutely right. I'm definitely not disappointed with our choice! There are a few Holiday Inn locations in this Kentucky where I have found this happens. When you arrive and check in, this location will take a credit card for incidentals. Again, this happens at a few of the Holiday Inns I have stayed at in Kentucky. What I have liked so far about this location is that they have a breakfast menu in the elevator and they state that they give you two complimentary waters in the fridge. Since I am kind of wary about having a credit card on file, I am probably not going to take them. I feel like items in fridges are being weight monitored. The king standard room is nice. Tons of space towards the center of the room. 3/24/2026 Shower: The showerhead in the bathroom is amazing with a mist type setting. I am going to miss that. Breakfast: Pretty much top!!! They basically max out everything possible that one would want a hotel to throw at them. I am writing about, two types of omelets (white and folded egg, egg beater eggs), bacon AND sausage (not just one or the other, and not just the sausage patty, the actual good tasting sausage links), french toast, and delicious seasoned potatoes. Their wide array of teas is amazing, both caffeinated and decaffeinated options in the breakfast area. Do not be down if you only find two options of black tea in the rooms because of this. I grabbed like two of each in the breakfast area for whenever I want to drink them because I am almost always traveling. In the fridge, they not only have yogurts, but yogurt parfaits (although, they have no expiration stickers on them. I would like to see how they monitor these parfaits from going bad). I had taken one and it was so refreshing. I think this Holiday Inn location is killing it in terms of what an individual would want. I have not seen too many Holiday Inns with this elaborate of a breakfast setup. This experience would be best compared to a Hilton and more than likely, one would have to be some kind of high ranking rewards member to even try to access the breakfast there.

Staying in the front of the building was nice because there was a little patio with chairs we could walk out and sit on. Another cool feature of this place was the pool, which was super nice to dip into at the end of a long, hot summer day. It was a great temperature and not very busy. I read a lot of reviews in which people complained about the breakfast, but I felt that it was a pretty standard hotel breakfast. There was definitely enough food to fill you up and a diverse range of choices. Everything was to temperature as well. To conclude, this would probably be a 3 star review if it weren't for how great of a deal I got. We were able to add an extra day to our vacation because of the price. If you're looking to save money and stay in the heart of Bardstown, walking distance from all the major shops and restaurants, the General Nelson Inn is definitely a solid choice.

There was nice music playing. There are attractive tables for sitting at. I was able to float. The room was nice with a king sized bed and curbside parking. It was cool and smelled good. The shower had warm water. The towels were decent. The included breakfast (open until 10:00 am!) was just as good as the one we paid $20 for at Cracker Barrel the day before. We enjoyed scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, orange juice, and bananas from the buffet. They even had free post cards in the dining room. I noticed games for families to play. The staff was friendly and helpful. The front desk clerk even pulled out a map of the community to show me where she suggested we go for dinner. She drew on it, too. At $90, the price was right. After the horrid experience of the night before, we actually drove to the hotel and looked at it before booking the room. We were a little scared after our last online booking experience. The rate at the desk was actually better than the Priceline rate.

The door to the room also rattled whenever someone else closed a door elsewhere .... Or maybe that was Lincoln's ghost? I was too tired to fret about it and slept well. Would recommend staying here at least once for a unique experience. Breakfast was included in the room rate. Menu is in the room to contemplate ahead of time. Went down to the dining area prior to my check out and had a nice dining experience. Ordered the Traditional Breakfast option and it was well prepared and satisfying, so overall also a great value. There is also a Keurig coffeemaker in the room. Staff are all very welcoming and proficient. Parking was free next to the property.

However, the Inn has a very large and convenient elevator, so that's the place we chose. (Note: the elevator is very slow...but what's the rush?) The reception desk and area is small but adequate with odds and ends of tchotchkes for sale. Receptionist was very polite. Our room was spacious! And...I mean bigger than the photos represent and much larger than we imagined. Large comfy bed, plenty of soft and medium pillows, fridge, microwave, chairs to lounge, relax, or read. Complementary bottles of water, coffee and coffee maker. All nice touches. And thermostat was easy to adjust. Bathroom was fine, clean, well-stocked with one notable exception, which we find in nearly every hotel we stay in these days: No towel rods to hang wet towels or wash cloths. That is, except one hook high up on the back of the bathroom door. (Virtually out of reach for my wife. We find this an unreasonable inconvenience in all our travels....(so only a half point deduction here.) Windows provided beautiful views of the square and were seemingly well-insulated....so no terrible traffic noises to keep us awake during the night. (OK...A few trucks in the morning, but not too early.) All-in-all we give this lodging very high marks and our solid recommendation. Oh, and very reasonably priced to boot!

The four of stayed in a two queen bed room that proved to be spacious and accommodating as the only male among three women. The parking lot is on the small side as the hotel front area is rather small and additional parking wraps around the sides. The hotel front offers spaces for various members such as Diamond, Veterans, Handicap, etc so not much parking otherwise. The hotel offers a breakfast that isn't bad but isn't overwhelmingly great. The morning I was there they had pork sausage, fried eggs, yogurt, waffles, cereal, muffins, and bagels. It was good for one day but I could see myself getting tired of it very quickly. The coffee was watered down to where we went out and got real coffee. The biggest memory will be the lack of hot water as I took my shower that morning. It wasn't cold but it sure wasn't hot. I thought maybe I just couldn't find the sweet spot in the handle to manage the temperature but others in my group noted the same. To confirm it, a stranger at breakfast mentioned how his room also on the 2nd floor didn't have hot water and was concerned he was going to hear about it from his wife when he returned to the room. I'm not sure if it's a 2nd floor issue or whole hotel but the hot water is a problem. Our friend noted that she had a hot shower the night prior so it's either intermittent or insufficient. They have two elevators but only one operating. They offer a fitness center that appeared to be a good mix of free weights and other equipment although we didn't use it. If they can fix the hot water and provide better coffee, it would be a great hotel.

The hotel looks good on the website, but looks can be deceiving…read more First, this "new" hotel is a reskin of a vintage Holiday Inn motel, the sort where every room opens to the outside (no interior hallways). In May that isn't a huge deal but I don't know that I'd want to stay here in the winter or the fall. YMMV. Because it is an old motel, the rooms are very small, much smaller than they look in the photos. Dark and dingy, too. Vintage wall AC units. In contrast, the interior common area is quite large and more modern. It houses the restaurant, the main bar, and a few secondary rooms. The outdoor pool is large and has extensive seating. There is also a lift to get in to the pool for those with a disability, but it is quite vintage. The bar has a good bourbon list and small bites. The restaurant is just OK. Fine for a hotel but nothing notable. Staff was very friendly. I would be very careful to watch prices when booking this hotel. I booked in February for a May stay, and was charged over $300 a night. This is not a $300 a night hotel. If I was paying closer attention, I could have cancelled a week before and rebooked for $150 a night. You have been warned! Accessibility note If you use a wheelchair, as I do, I would not recommend staying here, for two reasons. As mentioned above, rooms are small - barely enough space for a wheelchair to navigate. The roll in shower, in particular, is very very tight and I ended up not using it. The other issue is bed height - they are extremely tall beds, the tallest I've encountered. I was able to work with the staff to have the platform removed, so that the box spring was on the floor, and that helped. Staff was friendly and helpful, but still, there's no reason for such tall beds. If you are not wheelchair bound, but of a modest height, you may still find the beds a challenge.

I do think with a payment of $500 (checking in on a Friday at three and checking out on a Sunday at noon) for the weekend there were several things that could be upgraded or changed. As I understand we are located in the woods, it would be very helpful if the owners would "debug" the outside deck. There were nests belonging to wasps, hornets, mud daubers and some other crazy huge flying stinging insect all over the place. Let me add there were also spiderwebs with living HUMUNGOUS eight-legged creatures weaved in and out of the surrounding area too. Some so bad we couldn't even take advantage of the hot tub the first night. The place could have definitely used a good cleaning. There was dust, hair and dead bugs in multiple places inside. The cabin also had a musty smokey smell to it. Not appealing. One of the worst things in my opinion were their bath towels smelling of mildew and mold. Just yuck!!!!! If you picked one up your hand would immediately stink. It really doesn't take a lot of money to buy a few new towels. It needs to be done ASAP. This cabin has so much potential. I really wanted to give it a better rating. The layout was perfect. Two bedrooms, one full bathroom and a living room, kitchen, dining room combo. There was also a loft sitting area at the top of the stairs, and a gas fireplace downstairs. On the porch there was a big hot tub, gas grill, four chairs and a nice porch swing. Then leading down from the house to the lake there was a path and a dock that had a two person fishing boat tied to it. If you're interested in getting in some exercise there was also a nice gravel road/trail going around the lake along with a few extra hiking trails in the surrounding woods. With several minor changes and an effort to spruce up the place, I would be glad to rate it four or even five stars next time!
