Heater/air conditioner seems moldy and dirty
    Natalie W.

We stayed here for a girls weekend. The reviews seemed like they outweighed the bad on here but we didn't have a great experience. -The room was decently cleaned but the window area was moldy, the heater/air conditioner was filthy and moldy and the curtains were stained and molded. -They have tiny pillows that seem to be filled with clothes. Thats how it feels. Like someone shoved sheets or clothes in a small pillow case. -It's very run down with cracks, stains, dirt throughout the hotel. -we took the stairway a lot and it seems it's never cleaned. -the hot tub and pool. Very run down. The hot tub seemed so dirty I couldn't be in more than a few minutes. -the pool seemed clean enough itself but no one was cleaning up around the area so trash and towels were all over. -our remote didn't work and come to find out it wasn't even the right remote and they weren't sure how it was even in our room. -we went down for breakfast around 8:30 and it was full. Nowhere to sit. We decided to get ready and come back when it wasn't busy. Came back down around 9:45 and there was hardly anything left. No sausage, no waffle mix and other things. Trash overflowing. Messes everywhere. We asked if we could get more food put out and was told no. That she had to clean up and she wouldn't make more. She said we could have what's left. (Breakfast went until 10.) She was very rude. She seemed to have her cute children there but they were barefoot going in and out of the prep room. They started to wipe down the tables for her but just stood there watching everything. I've never been treated that way at a hotel for breakfast. They usually go above and beyond. Good things about hotel - the front desk people were very nice and helpful. They quickly brought us things if we needed them. -the bed was very comfortable but had to use many pillows that weren't comfortable. -the heater/air worked very well. I do not enjoy making a bad review but this was such a frustrating experience. I understand being short staffed or being busy but some of this; Especially the breakfast part was so frustrating.

A bit hidden from life in Grand Rapids. Clean rooms and hallway. Subpar breakfast and insufficient air conditioning. Microwave and TV remote didn't work. TV hung crooked on the wall. Front desk staff not friendly. Not worth the price, but generally satisfying compared to other Choice hotels I've been to recently. Choice has been Disappointing recently.

Nice place. Walking distance to the stadium. This place is very well kept. Room was very clean, fresh linens, very spacious, the bed was comfortable but the pillows were way to soft. I tried stacking the four of them up and still to soft. There's a swimming pool and hot tub. The exercise room had two treadmills , a bike, stepper and a larger piece of equipment. There's a nice sized dining area for breakfast and a large sitting area in the lobby. I will stay here again but I will bring my own pillow. The staff at the checkin were friendly and very helpful.

The room is spacious, the towels are plush although they're a polyester mix, the bed is comfy, they have various styles of pillows so you can find the one you want, the room has a mini fridge, parking is free and right outside the hotel there are a ton of nearby spots. The lobby has coffee and water at all times. And best of all- breakfast is ready EARLY! They say 6:30, but I've found it pretty much ready to go at 6:10. Other hotels will say 6:30 but they don't even have everything out on time. This place- the best I've ever stayed in regard to breakfast being ready EARLY so I can grab something before I leave. As a Marriott bonvoy member, I was pleased that I was greeted warmly and offered the welcome gift of a chilled bottled water and my choice of sweet or savory, local-made popcorn! Now, the pitfalls. The AC doesn't cool well. I am hot all night and it runs and clicks on and off but is it really 67? I'm hot. Also, the door does not shut behind you when you enter your room. The lock jams up sometimes and anyone can enter! (See pic). I tried to take a shower and wash my hair- well the conditioner was almost completely empty! I got one squirt out of it. Then I disassembled the apparatus to flip it over and get whatever was left out of it. I left it on the counter, see pic, and the cleaning staff didn't even think to refill it or replace it. What?!??!! They made my bed, sort of, see pic, I could do just as good. They took my hung up towel and the shower floor towel and did not replace it. I thought the hanging towels were for environmental respect- to use again? And where is my shower floor towel? Now the floor is soaked and I don't have a towel to throw down there other than my bath towel. So I called to complain. The lady at the desk said the cleaning staff just throws out the trash, changes towels and makes the bed. No vacuuming, no replenishing, NADA. She said i could request a deep clean. No. I don't need a deep clean. I just need the empty conditioner refilled, and if you don't do that on an interim Cleaning service, then it should've been done before I checked in! It should have been refilled when you did the deep cleaning from the prior guest that stayed in this room. This is all very simple stuff. So I would say the lady at the desk does a nice job checking people in and greeting you and wishing you well when you come and go. The hotel itself is fine. The breakfast crew is doing the Lord's work. But the cleaning crew needs to step up their game . There are plenty of hotels in Grand Rapids. If they improve, I would give them five stars. UPDATE. I stopped by the lobby to get conditioner. The desk attendant apologized and gave me four small travel size bottles. We chatted awhile and I found out their management is focused on cleanliness and many team members are high achievers. I stopped by the gym. This gym is better than any gym I've seen at springhill suites and town place suites. It's spacious and has more equipment. The pool is heated! It had some green lighting underwater. Looked very clean. The whole place lit up when I entered. With the overhead lights off, the green pool lights looked like a dance club. Ha. There's a shower off area and a water fountain. Plenty of towels. Lots of chairs. No loungers. But then again, it's indoor. A window faces the back parking lot. Again, I'm pleased with the hotel. I love that third shift gets the breakfast out early, and the staff members have been so kind.

Was easy to check in upon arrival. -My room was nice and updated. It didn't feel crusty like some hotels often feel if you know what I mean. Had a nice work desk and appeared to have clean sheets/bedding. -Nice curtains that can keep the room pretty dark when wanted. -Bathroom was nice and well-lit. Nice shower. -Hot tub and pool were nice and I enjoyed the hot tub the most. -Location was great. Parking was ample. Close by to a lot of good places to eat/shop. CONS: -Guy at the check in desk was a bit sassy when I was checking in. Didn't really need the attitude for such an easy task. -Housekeeping wasn't on par at all. They took my old towels and failed to give me new replacement ones. Did not replenish the makeup remover wipes or liners for the trash cans in my room. -My shower didn't have any conditioner left in the bottle when I went to use it and it was never refilled or checked when housekeeping came. Of course this was one of the few times where I didn't pack my own so I had none and didn't want to ask the sassy desk guy for anything. -I requested in my notes when I booked the hotel online that I prefer a first floor room. They decided that putting me on the 3rd well-reflected that request instead (sarcasm intended). -The beds were not very comfy in all honestly. They felt pretty hard and I was tossing and turning all three nights I was here. Not the best in the industry by far. -The breakfast choices felt limited as expected and nothing tasted "good". Therefore, I didn't eat after the first day. Overall, would I stay here again? Eh, maybe but maybe not. It wasn't the worst but it wasn't the best.

People were smoking pot in their rooms and riding up and down in the elevator smoking pot. A lot of the "guests" kept their room doors propped open for easy access for their "clients". This is no longer a Motel 6™, it's is now an "America's Best Value Inn"…read more Let's start with that. "America's Best Value." This is a motel. This is a motel that is very inexpensive to spend the night at. Motels that are very inexpensive to spend the night at usually have a number of things in common that I will outline here. Note that with all the following points, I am referring specifically to the above-specified America's Best Value Inn which shares many of the qualities of other motels of the same price-point. 1. Customer Service is NOT the #1 priority. 2. Your fellow patrons may not all be weary travelers overnighting in Grand Rapids from other cities and states or countries. 3. Your fellow patrons may be utilizing the inexpensive facilities provided by America's Best Value Inn to participate in activities that are not consistent with local, state and/or federal laws. 4. Because the price of the room is... er... ~economical~, there may not be a great deal of time spent hosing down the rooms between guests. One must be prepared for... um... the occasional ~surprise~. 5. The beds are like sleeping on a queen-sized sack of laundry. 6. The shower (no bath) was no more than ten cubic feet in size. Roughly the size of your average border collie. 7. The bath-towels were actually hand-towels in the real world. The hand-towels were washcloths. The washcloths were your toilet paper (where available). 8. The rooms were non-smoking, as communicated to the guest by the standard non-smoking symbol on a functional ashtray (see photo). 9. The guest may occasionally need to bring a fan or some other form of white-noise in order to drown out the couple(s) in the next room engaged in forceful, urgent sexual congress.* 10. Check out time is at 11:00am, which allows the single maid to "clean" all 125 rooms in four hours. I would give this motel one star, but it actually serves a purpose - most of the guests there really ARE there to get a good night's rest at a price they can afford. The economy is in tatters, and there are hundreds of thousands of people in Michigan alone who are well below the poverty line. Everyone needs a place to lay their head at night - preferably indoors and on a pillow. America's Best Inn provides that, and for that, they score three stars. * In some cases, this may also be an individual.

Respectfully, if the hotel industry weren't as challenged as it is right now due to COVID, I'd have requested my reservation be cancelled due to how wildly deceptive the modern-looking photos on their website depict this hotel and how drastically tired it is in person, despite an apparent renovation to [just barely] bring it up to the newer SpringHill brand language. The front desk agent was friendly enough and I appreciated the mobile check-in ability, but that's about where modernity ends here: the popcorn ceiling and textured walls harken to an airport Ramada of day's gone by, the single elevator was so slow it was just easier to take the stairs, and the breakfast area is far too small to support the size of the hotel, which at present, doesn't matter- they're still not offering breakfast (just grab and go). The pool and fitness center must be reserved in 45 minute increments, as well. While I appreciate the abundance of caution, it is frustrating that these limitations (which are quite inconsistent from hotel-to-hotel) were not called out on their website almost a year into the pandemic. The two double bed suite was an awkward layout. More than two people would be very uncomfortable in here for a stay more than one night (there's also basically no storage). While the living room is large with a nice wet bar and mini kitchen, the one TV straddling the two rooms was a shoddy choice when most SpringHill have one in each room. There are also exactly zero outlets available on or behind the nightstand. Pullout sofabed (trundle style) was also something I've not seen before. Props for the uniqueness (and it was West Elm!) The bathroom fan was louder than an airplane taking off (and was caked in dust), there were odd stains behind the toilet, and the ceiling tile in the hallway is a clear indicator that this hotel was flipped on the cheap. While I have no doubt the staff makes the most of the property and I had a pleasant experience with everyone, the actual reality of this hotel relative to photos online feels very much like a bait and switch. I realize this might be overly harsh: the beds were comfortable, the hotel was clean, and it's not a "bad" hotel, but it's also not structurally where it needs to be for this brand. Spend a little more money and stay somewhere else.

I was in Grand Rapids for their Comic Con, didn't realize I was heading out there till the night…read morebefore. So no way I could research the hotels and be ready for this trip. Too much going on. So when I tried to find a place, in my budget, I found Americas Best Value Inn & Suites. This was no hotel to write home about, as the service was the worse I've ever gotten at a hotel, there was a bad smell, and everything in the room besides for the bathroom looks like it was from the 70s or 80s, worn down... cuff marks and just in really bad shape. The bathrooms looked like they were recently redone, with a shower in the corner of the room. My problems mainly came with the front desk service. When I asked about the room type I wanted, which was a cheap King size bed for one person, he informed me they were out of those rooms. Most hotels, if that's the case has given free upgrades. He charged full price for a double bed. Next was when I mentioned I'm Handiecap and in pain, his line was "That's because you walked too much". And the last really rude line was when I mentioned I have a hard time with stairs, "Couldn't you have found a different Hotel?" I have been to many hotels around the country, and never had someone so rude work with me at the front desk. If I wasn't hurting as bad as I was, I would've found another hotel. Though the fact is I have a pain condition called RSD or CRPS. I have been living with this since 2004, when injuried at work. Riding in a car when going through any painful attacks, makes you feel every bump in sharp pain. My body could not take much more, I knew I had to get to a bed and just stay put for awhile. So I got this room, even though this guy had no good manners to him at all. With how he talked to me, I felt like he was trying to drive me away from the beginning. The hotel room had a mildew smell to it, really strong. When I complained about it, I was told it was the pool. Though outdoors did not have this smell, and even walking right near the pool there was no smell. The pool is out doors, there's no reason that water in the pool would get inside a room half the building down, and not be outside. So they were trying to cover it up. I did take pictures to show that there's something up with the ceiling and how dirty the vents themselves were. I will not be returning to this hotel. And don't recommend it. Thankfully I was only there one night.

My room was haunted as well (Room 115) as I felt a presence in the room and the lights kept turning on and they had a switch. And when I was having sex (I'm sorry....but I had to add that) I felt something grabbing my leg and wtf it sure as hell wasn't my partner. The TV is so basic and I couldn't even hook my laptop to it. Only about 6 or 7 channels work. The WiFi signals sucks a**. And I was very upset that I was woken up by the other hotel guests at 3am yelling and banging around. Oh and then the janitor barges in at 11am in the morning and I'm like hello I'm naked on the bed? And she's like oh my bad. I'm like yeah gtfo. Then later on in the day the repairman barges in and I'm like wtf? And then I leave at 1am and get back around 3am and wtf had to get a new keycard. Let's not even mention the shower curtain issue I had...it was too short and I got water all over the floor. And when I told hotel staff about it they said they knew but wasn't going to do anything about it! Wtf? Yeah. Don't stay here. It should be shut the hell down or put under new management. And don't stay in room 115!!! There's a spirit ghost in there (no joking!).
