I want basically three things from a hotel stop along a highway when traveling. Cleanliness, friendly staff and a hot breakfast. I'm sorry to say this hotel did not have those items. The brick at the front door was being used by their staff to put out cigarettes. The hotel is advertised as a non-smoking property, yet we had to walk through cigarettes smoke to enter the building. The hallways, and elevator were dirty. The hand sanitizer empty. The room itself was clean, although the cover was off the ac and the tub dripped in room. The toilet in the room was a low boy. I thought possibly because I got the King Suite and families with children, but was told by the clerk that is their standard height. I am 4th generation plumbing family. It is a lower than standard height toilet. The toilet seat itself is the split kind for dribbles. I have a bad hip and it was a problem. I couldn't even push off between my legs because of the seat style. We arrived for breakfast about 8 am on a Saturday and the pre cooked hot items were gone. I told the attendant she opened the tray looked clised it and continued filling everything else. Their sister hotel Clarion is right next door and I could have booked it for $50 less without the convenience of the hot breakfast I didn't get. I have other nights booked with Choice Hotels and now worried about toilet height I asked the front desk clerk for help requesting handicap rooms explaining I made reservations on my computer but I didn't have it with me. She said she could only see reservations for this location and I would have to call directly to Choice. She didn't provide a number. Walking back to my room, I noticed a business center with a computer. It upset me even more that it was not suggested either. I got no help resolving my problem. Needless to say when I return home I will not be stopping here. The staff here makes up for the other areas the hotel may be lacking in. The room we stayed in was definitely dated and the shower is updated but installed backwards. You actually had to get in the shower to turn it on. You cannot open the door to the shower to turn on the water to warm up without getting wet first with cold water. Bed was sooo hard but thankful to have a good sleep regardless. Outback Steakhouse is within walking distance. The hotel is close to many other eateries. So convenience is an added perk. The breakfast was great and Rachel was such a sweetheart. She brightened up our day. read more

I booked a reservation here using the choice hotel app. Then 2 days prior to my arrival I changed my arrival date using the same app. When I arrived the front desk told me they never got my change and charged me $100 for being a no show and that they were charging me again for the room. We had a one night stay here on our way to myrtle beach. That night this hotel and the one next store allowed a biker gang to have a reunion. They allowed them to party all night long with unbelievably loud speakers and intoxication. At 12:30am I finally went to go check on things. Hotel front desk claimed that there is no curfew or disturbance or noise laws in lumberton, NC and that there was nothing we could do. We were on the bottom floor so I could here people messing with cars so I went out to check the situation. There were people passed out drunk everywhere and I witnessed several people going car to car looking in, an obvious attempt to find cars that owners had left unlocked. I went at that point and made sure mine was locked (it was). I also got up at this time because I kept hearing someone outside my door (this was a family vaca stop FYI so my wife, 6 year old daughter, and her cousin are in this room) as I approached my door to check things out someone clearly touched my door. So I quietly left and sure enough two people where out there who were, in my opinion, clearly members of the biker gang. So I made sure upon returning to my room to close, lock, and latch my room door. In the moment I am writing this, now 1am, I just heard yet another person jiggle my door handle to see if the door is ajar. I truly do not feel my family is safe here and the hotel just told me kindly that there is nothing I can do and that I should just go back to sleep. Now with the music getting louder and the situation deteriorating I go to restless sleep in hopes that I can leave peacefully in the morning. DO NOT STAY HERE. You cannot know what clientele the hotel will accommodate and leave you in danger and with no sleep. read more

Not my choice for a week long stay, but not a bad place overall when compared to the roach motels which charge the same. Check in was a breeze, even with multiple wedding parties. The parking lot filled with automoblies, also had some trash piled up and areas the wind blew some into the bushes and the far ends of the property. Walking inside however, a different site altogether. The lobby clean and fresh with coffee and lemon water at your disposal. The trek to your room a comfort to your already tired feet with carpeting and elevators. Most rooms have a refrigerator and microwave. There is an ironing board with iron, and the mini coffee maker standard. The beds quite soft and nice. Some rooms even have a pull out or hideaway bed in a couch. The morning breakfast is a must for weary travelers. Afterall, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When the day is done, the warm soothing relaxing shower help you wash off the stress, and prepare to relax with your in room A/C unit. They have cable and color flat screens as well as free, yet unsecure internet. Tip. Once in the room ensure your fridge is not off, or in the max position. Turn the knob off and then to max, then turn back away from max just a little. read more

This hotel was disgusting. We stayed there on Friday night (may 26th, though we checked in around 12:45 am Sat to be precise) and were met first by a musty smell upon entering the room. Due to the smell, we checked the A/C unit filter and it was HORRIFYING (photos attached) - the entire unit was caked with dirt, dust, paint chips and what appeared to be mold spores; it was clear that nobody had cleaned it or changed the filters for quite a while. Additionally, the bathroom fan was also covered in dust, the fabric shower curtain had no interior shower liner, the couch had what looked like a semen stain and a cigarette hole in the upholstery, the phone didn't work, the tv was scratched all to heck, and the walls had grime all over them. The beds were creaky and sunken in and the pillows felt like the hotel staff had simply balled up a bunch of towels and shoved them into a pillowcase... horrible experience. Will NEVER stay at a Comfort Suites ever again after this nightmare. read more

Only disappointments were that the pool was closed and breakfast was in a bag, both in keeping with COVID policies. There were sanitation stations, and masks were required in public spaces. This place is a dirty, filthy dump. We checked in and then checked right back out after mud poured from our bathroom sink and the rude night manager refused to clean or disinfect the sink which filled up with mud (broken water main). He expected us to use the dirty, unsanitary sink. We got into an argument in the lobby over the whole situation with the rude manager. It was obvious customer service is the wrong field of work for this guy. He is a perfect example of what is wrong with people in this country. Nobody wants to work anymore so companies are stuck hiring unqualified individuals who so poorly represent their employers. In the end we demanded our money back and left. Besides the rude night manager, the property is run down on the inside and in great need of renovation. The outside is covered in dog poop. Nobody picks it up and there's no staff to clean it. We travel up and down to Florida very frequently and have never encountered anything like this. First the basics - 5 stories, interior entrances, dual elevators, outdoor pool, breakfast bar area. Not sure how old the property is, but they are doing some renovations. The room included a hi-def tv, sofa, microfridge, comfortable bed. Strong wifi signal. This was a most unique evening, as the power went out as a severe thunderstorm covered the area about 40 minutes after I arrived (around 10 pm). I checked in, put my things in the room, and was away when the power went out. The front desk staff had never experienced anything like this before, so they seemed to be flustered and unsure how to professionally handle the situation. I sat in the breakfast area for 20 minutes before choosing to go to my room. One of the front desk clerks did escort me up four flights of stairs with a flashlight and used the master key to allow me room access. Before the storm, I was very disappointed that the "air only" setting was on the heat/ac unit, so the room was terribly hot. Add to that the power going out and this was quite an uncomfortable room, even with the window open during the power outage. The free breakfast bar included boiled eggs and sausage biscuits that were being kept warm in a steamer pan, a very nice change from most places. I will most likely try this place again if I am in the area, and hopefully can give a better report on a non storm interrupted stay. read more

Some attempts to ypdate the property have obviously been made, but the effort is sloppy and for the most part, ineffective. The bed was good, with nice soft sheets, and the shower hot, but the cleanliness left something to be desired. As promised in my earlier review, I returned. Once again, Ursula was the one who checked me in. If all roads led to Ursula checking me in, I would be forever happy in my travels. Customer service can be trained, but it takes a person with a real passion for helping people to be this good at it. Revisiting my previous comments in light of sitting in this hotel again, I see that I was pretty accurate. This time my HVAC unit was less noisy. The mattress looked brand new, as did the mattress pad. The sheets are perfectly clean and smell fresh. Again the great choice of pillows. Bathroom again clean with an adequate supply of towels Walls again smudged and scuffed and the couch is the same. However, I'm bumping my rating up a notch because, let's face it, a clean, comfortable bed, a clean, well-stocked bathroom, a refrigerator and microwave, free and fast WiFi, a nice television, and a nicely stocked armoire are all you need in a room. For these prices I should not be expecting a perfect room, just a room perfect for spending a night or two on the road. If I want perfect walls and a better HVAC, pay $150 a night right? The breakfast area was jammed when we went and, eager to hit the road, we didn't stay. read more

We arrived really late at night and they were really helpful and polite. This place is really clean and feels like a fine hotel. The breakfast was great, a lot of variety, and ran for longer than the time posted. They were really good about refilling the food at breakfast so there was plenty of everything. The pool is clean and gets a lot of sunshine. You can eat breakfast inside or outside, the inside space is quite big. The bathrooms of the rooms are remodeled and tidy. Overall a good stay - got in very late in the evening (about 1AM) and the front desk clerk was very friendly and welcoming. The room was very nicely appointed and included alot of amenities found at the "higher end" hotels. The only compliant I had was that right behind the hotel is a set of train tracks. At 545AM I got an unscheduled wake up call when a freight train came rolling through and not only did the hotel shake as it rolled by it also blew its air horn as it crossed through the intersection about a block away. If you have seen the movie My Cousin Vinnie you will know exactly how this ends. Not that it will matter but if you can get a room on the side of the hotel facing the wooded area you might get a little less of the direct horn noise (but it will be minimal improvement at best). At the end of the day, the hotel is good for a one night stay, assuming the freight train is more than likely a daily occurence it would get old to hear that every morning to wake you up. read more

this was my go to hotel when traveling during the summer with my kids. the staff on day shift are friendly. i stayed over night my kids decided to pull out the couch, mice feces was on the mattress we went to bed late the mice woke me up in the food bag. i immediately asked to switch room. the housekeeper didn't seem surprised! i went back a month later, we arrived late. i pulled the cover back on the bed. the covers we not changed from the previous customer, the bed was soiled from urine. half of the sheet was yellow. i took pictures went down to confront the clerk,she said there was no help and she was working alone. very nasty attitude, she came up to change the linens foung the pillows were also soiled with urine. i sleep with a hoodie on my head to prevent any contact with the covers and the pillows were not replaced. i didn't use them. i was expecting a call from the manager, the bed covers were in the office when i checked out. i never received a call, no discount & was charged another fee some days later. places don't lose value but the staff can destroy the value due to poor house keeping and low quality service. perfect location read more

We stayed at the Comfort Suites while driving home from Florida to New Jersey. Lumberton is exactly half way home and has a bunch of hotels and restaurants to choose from. The Comfort Suites was very reasonably priced ($85 including taxes). The hotel is nice, clean and friendly. The check in agent had a major computer problem and was very stressed, but that didn't stop her from being super helpful and friendly. The rooms are small for a suite - we are a family of 4 and had to cram into two "double" beds. There is a fold out couch but it's not comfortable as a bed. There is a nice TV and horrendously slow wifi...if my kids were writing this review, it would be a 2 star review for sure. It was the only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars. Breakfast is hot - eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, cereal, etc. There is plenty to choose from, and take some for your ride wherever you may be going. Overall, a great value for the money and we would stay again. read more

We booked two rooms for one night on 8/11/17. This hotel looked clean. There were 10 of us in two rooms. We were in room 415. My mom woke up with bites all over her. At first we were not sure what it was. When we arrived at our vacation my mom went to be seen. She was scratching constantly and in discomfort. We were told they were bed bug bites. It has been three days and she has to buy more medicine already, and still in discomfort. We are on vacation, and she is not having the best time. Please address this issue. read more

We used one of our free Choice nights here (10000 points). The hotel is well maintained and clean. It's currently undergoing renovations, but aside from the big waste container in the rear parking lot, we saw or heard none of that. Breakfast was the standard stuff and more than adequate. We especially like the coffee and the yogurts and the fresh fruits they put out. Staff at the front desk were a little unfriendly, and we had a fairly long wait to check in and also to check out. Not sure why, because that is unusual at Choice hotels. But the bed was super comfortable and the room really clean and everything worked, so we were happy. And the Outback is right beside the hotel. Most beautiful rooms and they have the most friendly staff . We have a 16 month old Basset Hound and they got us a perfect room on the ground floor. Have a bad back and they have a AWESOME Walk in shower like the one I have at home. We got a soda and a blueberry muffin from the little front desk store for $2.25 you can't get it that cheap in a grocery store . 16 oz Coke and Otis spunkmire muffin never had to leave the place. Had breakfast the next morning and it was awesome. Food was great and they checked to make sure we had everything we needed. They grabbed the trash off our table be for we could get up to toss it. Fairly basic "suite" hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Supposedly a "suite" hotel, but that just meant that the rooms had min-fridges and couches in the bedroom -- they were not in a separate room from the bedroom. Free breakfast again was basic but underwhelming. About what I would expect from a $65 hotel but it cost $90. We were awakened at 5 am by what we first thought was a fire alarm. Pros: - Plenty of free parking - Very friendly and helpful front desk clerk - Comfortable beds - Free wifi - Large TVs with very good HD quality - Breakfast buffet is included and it is just okay. Not special but fills the basic needs Cons: - Air conditioning is the old style that is built runs constantly and is loud. You hear it all night. If you are looking for a quiet night and want to run the A/C, it is not going to happen here - Even though the room is technically a suite as it had a couch and a very small divider, the rooms are not really suites - Room had a smell to it - Bathroom had some mold in the corner of the bathtub. I stayed here after a 10 hour drive. It was like an oasis. Most motels along 95 are awful, but this was such a pleasant surprise. Clean, pet friendly, nice beds with good quality sheets. lots of pillows updated lighting, good internet. The staff couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. When I asked about the quality of the drinking water, the front desk clerk came to my door with 2 water bottles! I will def stay here again on my bi-yearly trip up and down the coast read more

I travel a lot and have stayed in over 50 hotels a year. I have not experienced such a lack of care and concern for a customer as I have experienced in the Lumberton, NC Comfort Suites. My door had a malfunctioning door lock. On five different occasions I tried to open the door. Each time I had to go to the front desk to get them to open it. After the fifth trip I asked the front desk to move me to a different room. There were very few cars in the parking lot and the hotel was not full. The front desk clerk called the manager to ask to see if I could change rooms. The manager refused. I checked out of the hotel. I called Choice Hotel Customer Service to file a complaint. I was told the hotel would respond to me in a few days. I think I got the hotels response which was "cram it". I am going to be a repeat visitor to the area on business over the next six months. I will not be staying in the Lumberton, NC Comfort Suites. I am a Choice Privileges elite diamond rewards member. I am not sure I will even continue to use a Choice Hotel at all. Over a broken door lock the hotel and choice hotels will lose a repeat customer. I suggest you stay someplace else also. read more

After driving for 11 hours, we arrived in Lumberton around midnight and Comfort Suites was one of the few hotels with rooms, so we really had no other choice. Luckily, it was pretty nice considering it is right off the highway. The front desk people were very nice and welcoming, even at such a late hour. The room was very clean and the bathroom had plenty of towels and toiletries. In the morning, there were a ton of choices for breakfast, like english muffins, bagels, donuts, eggs, sausage, yogurt, grits, oatmeal, and many different cold cereals. Make sure you get there early though, because breakfast ends promptly, and I mean promptly, at 9 am. Overall, not the Ritz-Carlton, but a good place to stop when you need to rest during a long drive. read more
