Trey really enjoyed his stay- can't you tell by his smile!?

First, the person at the front desk was extremely kind- I even got a Mothers Day flower. She knew me by name my first time coming back into the front office. The sites are divided nicely- unlike some KOAs where the camp sites are seemingly on top of each other. There's a lot to do right on the campground- dog park, pool, horseshoe, outdoor games. The bathrooms were impeccable- clean, a shower, nice spot to cool off! The only downfall was While sleeping in the tent it was a little loud due to I95 being not even half a mile away. It was hard to find a garbage can as well but overall a great stay!

We were going to stay at the Lumberton KOA on the first part of our South Carolina vacation, but we had a flat tire on the motorcoach. With KOA 's cancellation policy, we could get no refund, so we moved the one-night stay to the end of our vacation. KOA Lumberton, on either occasion, making the reservation or moving the reservation, failed to tell us that there was road construction all around the campground. To get in from the south, we had to meander through the country from I-95. To leave the campground to get to I-95 north we had to drive through the construction and narrow rough road, and even stop for the road construction itself. KOA Lumberton (the attendant was very polite and friendly) also failed to tell us that there was actual construction going on in the campground, though it is needed very badly. Earlier, I reserved a pull-through site as we tow a car behind our motorcoach. The site I got had the front bumper of the coach at the "street" and the rear bumper of the car at the edge of the other "street." I use the term "street" because some were asphalt but most were broken, crumbled asphalt or dirt and gravel. We had non- towing class C RV's on either side of us and the bigger motorhomes and fifth-wheels were all on larger sites. There were many vacant sites, large and small. After we arrived, KOA Lumberton informed us that the water was to be turned off for a half hour at 10:30 the morning of our departure. As this was our last night out, I had to get up and do the flush out before the water was turned off, which stayed off more like an hour. We camped there years ago when it was a Yogi Bear franchisee. Most of the roads and sites look like they haven't been improved since then. We saw some newer patio and tent sites. Even though the grounds maintenance people keep what's there well, it still looks neglected. I was charged, with a discount, $71+. I'd have been better off a a rest area or a Walmart. If this is KOA, no thanks!

It's a nice we'll maintained park. Plenty of shade tree, relatively level spots and quite a few concrete patios. Good spacing between sites. The pool area is clean, there's a couple kid areas and shaded! The Lumber river runs behind with a nice walking trail. Not good for fishing as the current runs quick and it's very weedy at bottom. The general store is small but they do have snacks and all the necessities. Getting off of 95 isnt a breeze even though it's right along the highway. This seems to be a overnight stay more than a staying place. We were here Thursday to Thursday over labor weekend for the Darlington race( an hour away) and the only time it was even half full was that Saturday Sunday.

Staff is soon nice Called last minute and when we got there at 10pm everything was ready to go. Map in an envelope So easy Clean And I think someone was even driving around at night to make sure everything was good. Beautiful nature trail to the river. My dogs lived it there

Dirt. Little grass. Trees left a messy dry type moss that was like a magnetic to dog's hair.

Great KOA right off 95. Restrooms were nice and warm and super clean on this chilly morning. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

And if you're going to spend $15 on a pass to Uwharrie National Forest, this place is damn sure worth it. (Tip: Just pick up your pass at the local gas station about 7 or 8 miles before the forest entrance). Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, a morning run, a quiet place to think, or somewhere to spend time with family or someone special, this place should certainly have a spot on your list. Getting here is a bit of a 4x4 adventure. I come out to Uwharrie to do a little off roading, so trust me when I say the access roads can get a bit rough, especially after a good rain. I'd recommend at least a truck, and four wheel drive is even better. Could you make it in a Corolla? I could (lol)... But yes probably, just be cool/calm and good at picking a line and avoiding the ruts. Personally, I wouldn't. The extra ground clearance is worth it. Truthfully, anywhere in Uwharrie will lead to one of the most peaceful spots ever, but today i found Badin Lake and this is something special! The paved walking paths are in fantastic condition and exceptionally well maintained/clean (and no trash anywhere but where it belongs). Along the trail are several breakout paths leading to pretty new observation decks/personal fishing piers. Perfect for sitting or relaxing a bit and taking in some great scenery, or simply listening to the water and/or watching the boats riding by. One thing that hit me when leaving was how refreshing it was to see a public recreation area that's maintained this well. Yup, whether you're walking, running, doing photography, fishing, kayaking, or simply getting outside to clear your head, I'd absolutely recommend making this trip. It's peaceful without feeling isolated and scenic without feeling overcrowded. Badin Lake is a place I'm happy to highlight, it deserves the attention!

Given the pandemic, finding opening at any campground has proven difficult, especially if you want a last minute get away. And by last minute I mean two weeks in advance... Making reservations at Badin Campground is super easy since its all done on the web. There are mentions of first come, first serve sites but when we arrived there was a no vacancy sign at the entrance so I'm pretty sure the first come, first serve is pre-pandemic policy. Checking in is a breeze too since there really is no need to check in. The loops are small enough to quickly find your site and each site post is marked with the site number and a placard with the visitors last name and dates of stay. We stayed at site 35 which is the first site on the left of the upper loop. These are primitive only sites but the bathrooms, showers and water is a short walk away. I felt we were secluded enough from the other sites that it was semi-private but you could still see the other sites clearly. Even though the posted quiet hours are from 10pm to 6am DO NOT expect it to be anything but quiet. There were multiple sites close to our loop that had very loud conversations well into the morning hours but mostly, there is non-stop traffic from four wheelers, hunters, etc. that fly down the road mere feet from the campsite entrance. This is a playground for off-roaders and a very popular spot for, what looks to be, a mecca for off-roaders. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the site. I would probably consider Arrowhead campground for our next stay as it seemed to be a little quieter. BTW - no - alcohol is permitted. This seems to be a hot topic on forums of people not knowing and getting fined.
