DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!! booked this hotel via Hotels.com for a trip to take my daughters to their school dance. I arrived at 4pm, checked in and located my room. By 4:40pm, after 3 failed attempts to gain access to my room with the keyed and rekeyed cards, the only way I was able to access the room was via the maintenance man who used a master key to let me in. I was able to quickly change in order to not be late for the dance. No items were left in the room, no items were touched or used in the room. Upon my arrival back to the hotel at 8pm, my key still did not work. After 2 more attempts to use the key, the rude front desk attendant followed me to my room in an attempt to gain access. She was unable to gain access to the room. I was told that I would have to wait on the maintenance man to return to the property in order for me to gain access to the room. She also stated that id need to "turn in for the night"...as in stay in my room as there was no way for the door to be unlocked. At that point, I asked for an alternative room and her only suggestion was that she'd need to try another key to which I replied and I asked for a refund. She refused, stating that "the room has already been paid for." Hotels.com attempted to contact the hotel for a refund on my behalf, to which they refused and stuck by their no refund policy. Ultimately, I paid $125 for a room I could not even access, much less sleep in. read more

You know the saying "You get what you pay for"? That's pretty much the best description of this hotel. While the rates may be low the whole building having an unpleasant smell. One of our guys had crumbs and room and was overall messy. Carpets are stained and the blinds do not close completely on the first floor. read more

Hotel was moderately clean. I selected this hotel over all the other options because it had an indoor pool and I was traveling with children that I needed to keep entertained. I made the mistake of assuming all indoor pools are heated.... Nope! The pool was like stepping into an ice bucket, so after 2 minutes no one wanted anything to do with that pool. Wasted my money, should have just stayed at the cheaper hotel right next door. Also, on our last day, the exterior door (where you have to use your keycard to obtain access) fell right off of its hinges. So much for security.... read more

So I forced into this hotel by my company, and was not very excited after reading the Yelp reviews. As expected this place is a dump. Lobby is dated as well as the rooms with lots of marks on the walls. It looks like they halfway tried to remodel the bathrooms (new counters and floor) but they left all the old fixtures. Whole hotel is dirty. The hot tub looks like a pond full of algae, and the workout room is a 10 x 10 cube. The bike is broken and the treadmill does not function properly until it is over 5mph. Looks like the treadmill is grinding the tread also (see photo) workout room is disgusting, as it literally is a closet off the pool area and I doubt staff goes in there except to put towels in. Haven't had the breakfast yet, so I will add that tomorrow. Take my advice, there is a brand new Marriott down the road, stay there. Damn company being cheap. Grrrrr. read more

Apparently the city of Sumter had something spectacular going on or this high school graduation sold the city out. This was about the only place that wasn't sold out when we booked. Reviews had me scared but options were slim. For $175 a night I expected it to be better since the reviews were kinda old. Arrive and they require a $165 deposit for possible damages whether you pay with a credit or debit. In advance or on arrival. I was told there was absolutely no smoking period in rooms or that $165 would be applied for damages. Ok. We don't smoke fine. Room 321 walk in and the room smelled so strongly of marijuana we about got high. Kese went to use the bathroom and we almost passed out. Apparently the people before us got high as kites before leaving. I immediately called downstairs and told Nicole she needed to come see this so I won't be charged and asked could we open a window. She was very accommodating. She apologized and moved us across the hall to 322. She had some machine to put in the other room before the guest arrived since they were all booked and she gave us someone else's room. We saw her when we were leaving and she was like omg. I'm so sorry it was pretty bad in there. I just said I hope they were charged lol. Nowwwww these rooms. The halls are dark and gloomy. The lights flickered and we damn near ran. Just a scary feeling. The rooms are grimy. The walls have many repair marks from water damage and only god knows what else. Major turnoff. The walls are also dirty and dated. The duster on the bed was stained. But the bed was soft lol. We had to laugh to keep from showing the kids what we were really thinking. The bathroom was cleaned to best that it could be. The toilet had permanent stain lines. Me and the kids refused the shower in the room. Just felt like we leave with something that we didn't come with. The free breakfast as described by my family as I didn't go down. The eggs were like polar shaved ice and the sausages looked like old lady fingers. The waffles and cereal were the only thing safe. Kese hard headed butt ate the eggs and sausage and paid a dear price. Lmao. My sister in law told us there weren't many hotels in Sumter but damnit. We would not stay here again. Between the drug room and fright night appearance. I'll pass. They're building some pretty nice ones I saw close by. Definitely will be booking sooner rather than later next time. I really should've took pictures but to be honest I was embarrassed. Y'all wouldn't believe the elevator filth even if I had pictured it. read more

We only stayed 1 night, but I have a PSA: if you are using a debit card they expect a $165 deposit for the room! I didn't find out until I got there... The toilet stopped flushing... quickly someone came to check it n fix it!!!! We found a roach in the room! That was a bit much! read more

My wife and I stayed here about a year ago while visiting our grandkids. The second shift clerk was as described in the other reviews, I can't say that I was unhappy to see him gone when we arrived for this stay. I've been in a lot of hotels over a period of time and I see nothing here that I haven't seen anywhere else. The most expensive hotels I have stayed in have the same issues. People will be people. My room is clean, the staff is friendly, and the rate is reasonable. If you're staying at the Waldorf-Astoria and you get a comfort Inn room, by all means complain. If you're staying at the comfort Inn and you get a comfort Inn room, be thankful that you paid a comfort Inn price. I dropped a star for the first stay with the night clerk. So far, this stay has been 5 star. read more

This was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It doesn't help that the manager Angela is extremely rude as well. I approach the front desk to let her know that my bathroom wasn't very clean and I showed her a picture to ask if someone could come up and clean it. She was so short with me and cut me off did not give any type of apology tried to be combative with me stating that someone was coming up to clean it. The entire point is when you check into a room and you shouldn't have to have someone come in and clean it. What's the person came up to clean I came back up to my room to find out that there was an electrical issue in the bathroom and she was cleaning in the dark. How do you clean an entire bathroom in the dark is beyond me. I had to be moved later into a different room which was just is dirty in the bathroom as the first. To my disbelief thank God I only found this when I had gotten sick the day I was going to leave that there was a dirty used pad under the bathroom counter. This is how you know no one's looking for anything to clean. I came to this hotel and so did my entire family for a family union weekend and I was disgusted. Other family members had extreme issues as well.This hotel was not worth the money that I had to spend. Wouldn't stay here for free in the future. I wish 0 stars was an option. read more

Planned on staying at this hotel for almost two weeks. Part of our big party got there a few days earlier than I did. After the first night, 2 out of the 3 people woke up covered in bite marks. I booked at another hotel along with my party when we arrived because we didn't want to risk it. The hotel still charged the two people covered in bite marks, too! They reported it and everything. Looking at some other reviews it appears that this is a common thing for them. They really need to get the health inspector to come out and bomb for bed bugs. I wouldn't stay here and risk it until the management confirms they have taken care of this issue. read more

If you are in a pinch and need a place to stay this will do. Be forewarned though, there are probably better options. The room was ok, it seemed like it was in some state of repair though. The shower was not very good as they had it set up more as a jet tub and looked like a recent shoddy remodel job. The exercise room is a joke. You walk past an algae infested pool only to see this closet of a room with nothing working. The breakfast left much to the imagination as the eggs were bland and flaky and the sausage had no flavor. Every floor creaks so the 300 lb gorilla in the room above me did nothing to aid in my sleep. Staff is very friendly and helpful though. read more

After an 18 day stay here, I would certainly recommend this hotel to others traveling through Sumter. The breakfast had the standard complimentary fare: coffee, juice, milk; plenty of bread, muffins, bagels and danish; the waffle machine and hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and cereal. Hot items were grits, scrambled eggs and either bacon or sausage. I only tried the bacon or sausage, it's typical of what you'd expect, nothing amazing. The room (single king) itself was clean and large, with a separate couch. Bed had both hard and soft pillows, and the room had a microwave and small fridge. Free internet was available, I didn't have any problems but didn't use the business center. The pool was a decent size, along with a hot tub. The 'gym' was a disappointment, with a treadmill, a recumbent bike that was probably 20 years old, and a set of bowflex dumbbells, all in a very tiny room. I was surprised to see a happy hour starting around 5 pm in the breakfast area, where there were peanuts, chips, popcorn, and beer, wine and pop. They staff then bake and leave out Otis Spunkmeyer cookies to take. The staff was friendly and helpful for the most part; when I asked for a good place to eat (other than places like Chilis and Logans Roadhouse) the girl really couldn't provide any good recommendations. Had to stay here for a company trip and compared to the reviews that I have read, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. It's definitely not five star worthy, and here's why. The room I stayed in seemed to have a molding in the air vent, the bathroom tub needed some work with the fixtures, the gym consisted of a treadmill that hardly could function, the jacuzzi looked green and I had no desire to hop in. It's in a convenient location in Sumter, food shops galore to include ihop, chili's, and Buffalo Wild Wings. There is a lighting fixture right outside my room that flickers and makes me feel like I am in a horror movie. The television is definitely no good to watch, well at least mine. It skips and goes in and out of service which is rather annoying. Having the tv off was a better option for me. The microwave heats up food in my room, but does not rotate the food, which needs some maintenance. The free breakfast is a nice touch and well as the complimentary water and coffee/teas. read more

We've been coming here for years for a race in February. This used to be a nice quite place to stay. Not anymore. There were people running around the hotel for most of the night. Groups of people were hanging out drinking and smoking weed in the hallways and by the elevators. Unattended teenagers were hanging out in the dining area being loud for most of the night. Finally had enough about 1:30 and went downstairs to the front desk to have them do something about the noise. I managed to get about 3 hours of sleep after that as we had to get up at 5:30. why, why, why didn't I check yelp before i booked? Rooms smelled damp and mildewy. Saw two roaches within the first two minutes of walking into the first room i was given. Everything was dusty or dirty, there was film on the sink and the mirrors were covered in water and toothpaste spots. The 'fridge' was a solid block of ice and the carpet and walls were marred. Even the elevator was dingy and sticky. Service was friendly, but this place is really gross, and when it comes to bugs, changing rooms doesn't help. I had some issues getting an early check in and I had to call the escalations desk at Choice to accomplish checking in an hour earlier than the normal time. There is a smashed roach on the wall and with this being a holiday weekend, I have very little recourse on staying elsewhere. read more

Had two rooms at this hotel...after checkout we were charged $162 for smoking in the rooms WHICH WE ABSOLUTELY DID NOT!!!! Every front desk employee saw our party EXIT the building and smoke outside NUMEROUS times....just because there was remnants of cigarettes and cigars in the room, not ONE was lit in the room. If we took the time to exit the building and smoke outside EVERY TIME, why on earth would we smoke in the room? So I take it, because we were a group of black males....you are RACIST and ASSUMED we smoked in the room...Check the security video as you watch us exit the building each and every time to smoke. So unless you want to be ROBBED by this hotel and treated like 2nd class citizens that think they can get over on you...do NOT stay here....especially if you are black. read more

Most comfort suites are pretty good, this is not the case here. Just overall a very poor hotel. Very old and rundown. Pipes coming out of the wall in the bathroom, thermostat that was at least 20 years old, fire alarm chirping and waking me up in the middle of the night, etc.. Well we stay there two night the first night I went to use the bathroom and saw a roach in the bathtub so we killed it and kind of knocked it off a little bit and then I look over and there was another call down to the front desk the person at the front the only thing they did was gave me another room on another floor and I couldn't sleep thinking about roaches be crawling on me so the next day I talk to the manager he just act like this is something normal that you see roaches in the hotel you paying the room smells mustythr bathtub in the second room that gave me was Rusty in the bathtub only thing they did was give me 10% off my bill which that didn't even help there was a slap in the face a lot of my family stay there this weekend for a family reunion but we will not stay there anymore read more

Stayed here for a few days while on a business trip, the front desk greeted me upon arrival and was very friendly and accommodating, I've stayed at other hotels in Sumter but the value here is unbeatable. My room was nice and clean with no apparent problems, the breakfast was also good and met my expectations with plenty of restaurants in walking distance as well. I'll never stay here again. When one calls their rooms suites, I expect more than a tiny microwave and a mini fridge. Wi-Fi was sub-par. I wasn't sure how long I was going to be in Sumter, so not wanting to run up my credit card, l paid cash. Big mistake. Was treated like a second class citizen. I had no problem paying up front for that room. Had a problem with being charged on a sliding scale based on the day of the week as opposed the rate I found online. Had a problem putting up an additional $162 as a "security deposit". Not wanting to be delayed when I checked out... the day before, I went to the front desk to tell them what time I would be leaving. They said it wouldn't be a problem. Not a problem for them. A problem for me. When I went to check out, they had to call in someone to check our room even though housekeeping had been in the room each day. The 5 minutes I had planned spending checking out, turned into a half hour. All because I paid cash. read more
