Let me start this review by saying that for more than 5 years I have stayed at this location have had nothing but a pleasant experience. However, this recent experience completely invalidates all of the pleasant moments I have ever had and I will certainly not be returning ever. This hotel is one of the most filthy places that I have ever stayed in my life. From the pictures and videos that she shared with me, this is undoubtedly one of the worst hotels that I have ever seen. I've seen a slew of bad reviews for this place, and I don't particularly get it. I mean, I'm sure peoples critiques are both truthful and valid - but for the reduced price, what did you @ssholes expect exactly? It's akin to eating fast food and worrying about the calories or the I'll effects it has on your body. If you want 5 star treatment, be prepared to pay 5 star money dumb dumb. But if you want a decent place to lay your head at a reasonable price - where you won't get stabbled in your sleep - this place fits the bill. read more

I've stayed here for slightly more than a week recently with a few coworkers. It's my first experience with this brand even though I've stayed at other Choice Hotel brands. Overall, this hotel could be better. On the positives, the public areas are clean and decently maintained. Wifi is usually decent unless everyone is checked in. The mattress was comfortable and I liked that the TV had a On Demand option. The windows can also be opened for fresh air. The mini fridge was cold enough to freeze food. On the negatives, sounds and smells traveled between room easily. One of my coworkers checked out early because one of his neighbors was smoking early in the morning. Another coworker and I shared the same neighbor but the noise was worst for him as his room also shared a door. This coworker checked out a day before me after our mutual neighbor had a particularly amorous night. The final coworker in our group checked out early after seeing a cockroach in her room. The night after she checked out, a cockroach ran across the desk I was sitting at and earned a quick smack down. read more

When I tell you, the pictures that they post online does not match what you are walking into me and my family came all the way down from Florida to see my family in South Carolina mind you we had to be changed out of three rooms the first room the shower was broken. There was bird poop in the chair. The bed was filthy. The window was broken, not livable so they moved us to a second room. The second room had a cracked window. The showerhead was broken again pubic hairs all in the bed Now the third room that we stayed in was a little more comfortable, but we all had to buy cleaning supplies to clean the room to our standards because the showers were dirty. The floors were dirty. Everything was filthy in this hotel. I should've read the reviews before we booked, I feel like they should give us our money back because we stayed in complete filth so I will not recommend this place not even my worst enemy. read more

Too bad there isn't a zero stars rating. My son and I had to stay here one night because there were three large events in town and we couldn't find another room. Our first room in this hotel smelled awful, had holes in the bathroom wall and a full size range that made a consistent popping sound. Room 2 smelled fine, but there was a hole in the window frame - TO THE OUTSIDE. The pocket door to the bathroom got stuck, there was no grout on the bathroom tile floor and the shower handle was broken. There were marks all over the walls and the furniture was badly chipped. The hallway smelled of a combination of mold, smoke and drugs, (there was a sign in the lobby about drugs, but I doubt that they enforced anything). The only redeeming quality was that they had decent coffee. We were able to check out early. The front desk rudely told me that I would not be getting any money back. I was able to get one night refunded, however, that was negated by the fact that someone hit my brand new car in the parking lot. I asked for the security footage, but they wouldn't give it to me. Great. They charge you for your entire stay when you check in. Now I see why. I will never stay at another Choice Hotel if I can help it. read more

Nice stay!! Hurricane Matthew was dumping buckets of rain and a few rooms opened up on line. Was greeted by a FRIENDLY hotel clerk (C.Thomp). Still with a room full of guests waiting to check in she kept cool, smiled, and took care of everyone (nice service). The room was nice, bed comfortable and shower refreshing. The fridge had been left open or broken (couldn't use for food storage). The only thing off was the hallway smelled funky. All and all nice stay and nice service. Would recommend a stay!!! Had to switch rooms because in the 1st room both beds were dirty & one had a cigarette burn in the blanket. The toilet didn't flush. The whole room was disappointing and the whole 2nd floor smells like weed. I'm currently in a different room on another floor which is a slight bit better but still disappointing. The shower head you can tell has never been cleaned. I would not recommend this hotel. I'm in town for an emergency & if I could I would leave & go elsewhere but it's the middle of the night & I already paid. read more

To find this Sleep Inn, look for the Comfort Suites and use their driveway. They borth share the same parking lot, and if you are not familiar with the area you may be like me and not see the Sleep Inn while driving. My king room was clean and well maintained. Free wifi worked well, plenty of tv channels, and the bed was comfortable. Front desk staff was reasonably pleasant. read more

All I needed to do was sign a paper get key and leave a transaction of 20 seconds. Instead I waited for her to finish all that. . DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! FILTH EVERYWHERE!! ******* I've never been to a hotel more disgusting than this before. The first room we saw was filthy and smelled really bad. There were sticky ring stains and spills on all of the furniture. The bathroom has not been cleaned and the toilet would not flush. The shower stall door and inside had not been wiped down or cleaned. There was hair and dirt on the bathroom walls. The closet was full of dust. All the bed linen was dirty. Microwave and fridge were dirty. The front desk went to look at it and said they could change us over to the suite and she sent us up there to look. It was filthier!!! The stove had food stuck on it and the sink was dirty. When I tried to use the sink I heard water underneath the sink and opened the cabinet to find several moldy towels with a container full of water to catch the leak. That is the only sink and we couldn't find another hotel in town at 1030 at night. The bathroom was filthy like the first room, with toothpaste on the wall and towels that were set on the back of the toilet. every drawer was dirty and had debris in it. The floors were dirtier than the first room. There was no other room and no house keeping to come clean. It is absolutely wrong to make a paying guest stay in these gross conditions especially due to COVID!!! We had to stay inside due to freezing temps that night. The front desk said we would get a discounted room rate for the night and we could cancel our reservation with full refund of those two more nights we already paid for. They said we would get back the $80 deposit as well. The next morning, none of that was true!!! They charged us full price for the suite and have not refunded us for the 2 other nights. Dont be fooled by the pictures. Stayed here while visiting my son who is stationed at Shaw AFB. Very disappointed. The place was dirty grimy from the moment you walked in. The smell was terrible in the halls and room. The room stunk of cigarettes and marijuana, The floor in the room was disgusting, beds were possibly 20+ years old. Surfaces were not cleaned and syrup everywhere, closet had an awful odor, sheets were not clean and fresh, AC barely worked, mold around the window, nothing to hold the toilet paper, the elevator was filthy and never cleaned the whole time we were there, food was not good, pool was horrible with un ruley people trashing it, trash everywhere and I can go on. Sleep Inn, Sumter, SC chain of Choice Privileges Reward., where you can earn points while you stay. Room accommodation were standard hotel. Room was clean, except it had a funny stale odor egoing immediately once you open the room door. Everything else was in excellent working conditions like the Air Conditioning. , television. , microwave and so forth. Each morning Sleep Inn provides complimentary continental breakfast. Their spread is really nice too accommodation your breakfast options. They also have a waffle maker., choices of hot/cold beverages to three options of juices. Overall decor of this establishment was clean., just had funny odors simply couldn't identify. Staffing was Family-friendly very helpful towards special needs. My only issue is I've stayed here once before back in July and their main Ice machine located in the Lobby was out of order. It's now October.? What's the reason it's still out of order. The hotel smelled like smoke everyday i was there and the employees told me that they cannot do anything about it. then when i canceled my next weeks stay they charged me for a day when i did not check in telling me i was obligated to pay for that day. The stay was already prepaid and they now have charged me for an aditional stay when i never even checked in. I have been calling and asking to speak with the hotel manager OR owner and everyday i get the same answers i will pass along your number and they will call you back if they want to. THIS PLACE IS FULL OF STAFF MEMBERS WHO DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYTHING and the owner seems to either not be in the loop or they them selfs do not care either. read more

Staff was pleasant, but the condition of our room and common areas leaves much to be desired. There were stains all over the carpets, our daughters' footed pajamas were filthy from less than an hour in the room. There were also stains on the bedding and curtains. Room had an extremely musty smell, probably due to the leaky air conditioner. There was bubbled paint and mold around the air conditioner. The latch on the door was extremely loose, offering no additional security at all. We also noticed an incomplete light fixture inside the shower. All of the above shown in the pictures. read more

Rooms were not cleaned well when we arrived (dirty sheets and bed linens, cob webs in the shower, some sort of orange liquid on the bathroom walls, etc.). And some of the front counter staff were a bit rude when we asked them to re clean. There was also pool hours confusion. The sign at the pool says 24 hours but the web listing and the staff indicated it closed at 8pm. We've stayed at this hotel many times over a span of 20 years and have never had pool hours specified or enforced. But in prior years the hotel itself had been much cleaner and the staff friendlier which made the great price an even greater value, which is why we always stayed here when in Sumter. But I think those days are behind us now and we will not stay here any more or recommend it to friends or family. read more

This hotel is gross and dirty. After a half a day of my 1 year and 3 year old walking barefoot on the carpet in the room, their feet were black. Put socks on their feet to keep their feet clean and the socks turned black. There were stains on the comforter. Disgusting. The pillow cases were dirty. The shelf under the sink where the towels are stored was filthy. That's where our "clean" towels were stored! The sliding bathroom door did not lock. The hotel did not have a pack n play or crib you could use. There was no guest laundry, you have to go next door to another hotel. I explained this to them and tried to either get a refund or reschedule, they would not deal with me and said booking.com would have to handle it, and then booking.com said the property would handle it. I know this isn't the Ritz-Carlton, but the room was not clean to any reasonable standard. Cleaning staff appears to be spraying cleaner and not wiping it off thoroughly so all the room surfaces have slimy residue on them. Disgusting. The carpet has probably not been shampooed in years. I have flip flops that I use most of the time, but I walked across the room in my socks to get them and my socks were stained after just a few steps. Some weird substance splattered on the dresser that could easily have been wiped off. Opened the microwave (that was covered in greasy fingerprints) and could smell marijuana? Coffee maker in the room had cups next to it but no coffee. Door security latch was visibly broken and missing the top screw. The side entrance door doesn't secure when you enter, so I had to pull it closed behind me. Apparently nobody else bothers your notices, because the side entrance was open every time I went to it, meaning anyone can enter this hotel from the side without a key. The hallway smelled nasty in the carpet should've probably burn replaced years ago. They're covered in stains. The pool is completely unusable and full of green algae. I could go on and on. This place is just filthy. The staff was friendly, and I don't mind a room with outdated furniture and carpeting, but there is literally no excuse to have a filthy ass hotel. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here unless you're OK with living in filth for a night read more

Not as updated as the pictures show. Cigarette smell in a nonsmoking room, the smell of pot being smoked throughout the halls. AC in the room half worked, plus the cabinet smelled moldy, not including the shower being dirty with a broken door. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Husband, our 4 month old and I were in town with friends (they were also in same hotel in separate rooms). I have never stayed at a Choice branded hotel, and honestly, it will take ALOT to return. Nasty hotel. Town's hookup hotel. Interior hotel, bonus, but not when the doors don't meet the floors and all sound travels into your room. Requested a crib, but not available. Hall way stank. LONG dead cockroach under bed with God knows what else (hadn't been cleaned nor detailed in ages). Pubic hair in soap holder in shower. Best part? Waking up at 345am to group sex party above us. Loud! Hotel declined to do anything. Wouldn't return. Stay at your own risk, especially on a Saturday night. read more

I never expected such frustration. I booked a room for 2 nights and I and 3 other guests complained of our room conditions. Upon entering my room, i first notice the filthy carpet; not only dirt and grime, but plaster was throughout the entryway stemming from an electrical outlet that was unseated from the wall. The pillows on the second bed in were stuffed between the headboard and bed. When I removed them, there was potato chips and other crumbs under the bed. The front desk person was very kind, but didn't have another room. I photographed the room and showed them to the morning attendant. Housekeeping started pointing fingers. I asked for the GM (James Patel), the attendant phoned him and I was informed he'd be in later. I returned from a funeral and he had not showed up. I asked to speak with him on the phone, but he would not talk with me. I guess as some kind of compensation i was given another room later that evening. On the morning of my check out, upon opening the door, there was an open statement on the floor with a small abatement. This alarmed me because all of my check-in and personal info was on display to anyone transiting the hallway. I again asked to speak with GM Mr. Patel, but he instructed the attendant that he did not wish to speak with me. Because of this hotel manager's decision not to speak with me to help resolve my concerns, It is my hope that this review will have some impact on your decision to book here. How can a hotel be by a military base but not allow military personnel to book a room regardless of age?! Candlewood Suite right across the street does! Got to Sleep Inn Sumter at 11pm on April 13 2018. The women at the front desk is very rude and has a nasty attitude. Our room was already reserved and paid in full and she didn't let my brother and I check into our room because we weren't 21. My brother is in the Air Force and didn't have a problem booking other hotels in different states because of his age. She claimed that there was no such thing that someone from the military can book a hotel regardless of age. Great way to greet someone who serves in the military. I stayed at a Sleep Inn in San Antonio, Texas and I never had a problem (REASON WHY I BOOKED WITH THEM AGAIN IN THE FIRST PLACE). After that, we went to the hotel (comfort suites) that was walking distance from this shit hole and before we could ask a question the lady in the front says "the lady from the sleep inn hotel just called us and we need to stop you right there". That women at Sleep Inn apparently has a lot of time on her hands since she's quick to call once we leave. Candlewood suite right across the street BOOKS MILITARY PERSONNEL REGARDLESS OF AGE!!!!!!!! And Sleep Inn won't give us a refund. So they took our money, told us we couldn't stay even though one of us serves in the military, and now they'll take that room that was booked for us and give it to someone else to make some MORE money. I WILL NEVER BOOK WITH SLEEP INN AND COMFORT SUITES EVER AGAIN. And after looking at the reviews on this hotel I'm glad we didn't stay there because the only thing they offer is bed bugs. read more
