I came into the store to sell my original addition Marvel Star Wars comic books (a few were second prints) but they offered me $250 for over 100 comics. It came out to be $2 a comic.... I have a (68 Feb) boba fett comic which by itself goes for $100-300 minimum without being graded. (It's almost in perfect condition) So highly don't recommend because they tried to scam me. read more

I have been visiting and purchasing comics from Comic Book World for many, many years and never really had much negative to say to leave a bad review until now. Here recently the store has gone downhill ranging from the condition of the comics on a new comic day to the prices of the back issues that have been sitting for years waiting for a forever home. I understand that a business need to make a profit to stay open but most of these back issues are not selling for full value as they did 2-5 years ago or even longer. A couple of weeks ago I was making my normal purchases when at the counter I had left my wallet in the car. While I was getting my wallet the cashier took one of my variant covers (Power Girl One-Shot by Stanley Artgerm) out of my bag and gave it to the fella behind me just because he also loved that cover and didn't see any on the shelf. This was unbeknownst to me so not only did I realize I had a missing comic but I was also left with the worst of the 2 issues. My issue had spine tics. I am a collector first but I also buy and sell as well. I was going to sell the very fine copy to one of my many buyers on a third-party selling platform and keep the near-mint copy for personal collection. I called and the store owner told me that he knew all about the situation that had transpired, even though I didn't, and that the cashier had placed an order for another copy for me. Why didn't the cashier order the book for the gentleman that missed out? Why did I have to lose a book when I was there first? Now today I go to the store because it is new comic day and my comic that was ordered should be there. While the "same" cashier tried to figure out why my comic had not arrived I went ahead and started selecting my issues to buy from the comic walls for new comic day. I selected about 10 comics and went to the counter. The cashier explained that the comic had not arrived and he doesn't know why either. Wow! He begins scanning all of my new purchases and the total is over $16 more than what the cover prices stated. He goes on to tell me that the Amazing Spiderman #27 is actually a 1:25 variant by "Garbet" and is $20 instead of the cover price of $3.99. I let him know that all five of them are not bagged and boarded, nor priced at $20. Instead of giving me the book for cover price he takes the book off my total, bags, and boards those 5 and changes the price to $20. I go to EBAY and they are selling for cover price ($3.99) or ($6.99) at the most. Sheesh, what a rip-off!!!! I was going to start a pull list there but now I think I will find a new store to patron. read more

I am a comic book fan by association - because people I love happen to love comics, and because they are in a similar vein to the books of mythology I pored over as a kid. They are stories, creativity, lessons, entertainment, and a good way to drop thirty bucks on a whim. What I mean to say is - I'm not a hard core fan but I can hold my own in *most* conversations. Therefore - if I'm giving a comic book shop a 5 star review it's made an impression. Out of the gate- These guys are clean, well organized, and impressively in stock. I could steer my two year old toward the Power Puff Girls (thoughtfully placed on lower racks) while the boy checked out Batman (more adult themes well away from said PPG's). You knew new releases from the back copy bins, and theme from theme. Not overstocked, thoughtfully stocked. Deciding 5 star factor - customer service. The gentleman behind the counter talked with my two year old and noticed what she was into (no easy task). He found an extra copy of a free comic book day Strawberry Shortcake and gave it to her and she 'read' it the entire way home. That, my friends, is how you cultivate the next generation of comics fans. And of course when my DC loving boy child announced that it was the nicest shop he'd been to and he was considering moving in permanently - well - I'll miss him ;) Now that the boy has honed in on this place - will I ever be able to drive by without stopping again? read more

I love Doug and Bill!! Always a great smile to greet you and a joke or 2 to add! Good selection of comics and back issues. The gaming section is as big as the comics side! If you're into that sort of games they probably have it!! I just wish they had a subscription list option. Maybe make it expire after 2 weeks and no notice or have a cc on file for all the books. I don't know. I just wanna make sure I get my walking dead, hellboy and batman regularly! And hellboy is a small order for them. read more

Hands down, the BEST place in town to get your comics. I frequent there quite often, and they have yet to ever give me the feeling dissatisfaction when I leave. I would recommend them to every single person that enjoys comics. As well as other collectibles, they have the BEST selection in town for comics. If I could give them the first ever 6th star, I absolutely would. Thanks to their staff for being awesome!! They're patient, diligent, prompt, and will get your selected comics for you, set them aside, and have them ready for you the moment you walk in the door. Good comic book selection, very subpar boardgame and table top game selection, minimal is generous for the card game selection, but still a strong 1990s Warhammer selection. Staff are not helpful, nor considerate of gaining new business. From how they spoke of business they just want their regulars. After exploring the entire store and wandering a bit, I never once was asked if I needed help. Not even a hello. The regulars were rude to myself and the other couple people, who I assume were new-ish. I remember coming here once - twice a month 15 years or so ago, this place has gone down hill. read more

I hate this. I've been reading comics since I was 9. And I've been going to CBW on and off for the better part of a decade. But over the course of the last year or so, my trusty comic book store has changed a bit, a good friend who worked here passed away, and Doug, the owner, retired. Now the store hasn't really changed much on the interior, but the level of service, IMO, has declined drastically. I used to be able count on the fact that on a Wednesday, Doug would always have the book I was looking for, now, not hardly. The store is always selling out of issues before noon. I remember Doug always saying that selling out was bad for business, he tried to make sure he always had issues available, now, like many other comic book stores, you only get an issue if you're on the pull list. I hate pull lists honestly. It indicates to me a lack of interest in every customer that walks in, and only an interest in regulars. It's the downfall of comic book stores, making them appear as if only exclusive club members allowed. And I see it too often. The lack of foresight in the industry is astounding. Doug knew it. A Great Shop, well stocked with all the titles you are looking for as well as the back issues you may have missed. They also stock all the games and accessories that go with them, not to mention they host gaming sessions in the store for beginners to experienced players. The one thing this store doesn't have that a number of the older stores have is clutter, an old musty smelling building with bad lighting and bad or virtually no place to park. Stop in and check out the difference if you want your kids to have a safe place to shop. read more

Clean organized and good selection. But it lacks some charm at the same time being so sterile. Every time I went in the guy who works behind the counter seems like he'd rather be any place but there and likes to get you out the door as quick as possible. Not rude just not a people person. Huge selection of back stock issues. If there is a comic you're looking for you'll most likely find it. The one down side is that the book will most likely be extremely over priced. A couple comics that I was looking for were priced between $10 and $15, while most other shops were selling them for $3 or $4. Ended up finding both my comics in the 25 cent bin at Half Price Books. The staff is generally friendly, though lacking in enthusiasm for a buying customer. They'll help you find anything specific you may be looking for and the likelihood of them having it is pretty good. If all you're looking for is comics and the service and price don't matter too much, then Comic Book World will probably suit you just fine. read more
