In my opinion, prices are definitely on par with other vets and worth it for the services you're receiving (you can't really put a price on your dogs health). While I've noticed they definitely try to steer you towards Zoetis brand products vs. competitors for things like flea & heartworm preventatives, they're not pushy when it comes to selling products or treatments. I'm super glad they opened up a second location at Madison Yards. My dog, Maisy, loves her trips to Common Companion. read more

I previously left a review that our dog Silvio was paralyzed and left a quadrapelgic after scheduled sedated x-rays with Dr. Mackenzie Gelernter now known as Kenzie Gaudio at Peachtree Creek Animal Hospital. I wanted to update the review to say that I never received a response from Common Companion after I sent them a letter. They completely cut off communication so their review response on google is just faning sympathy in the public eye. Furthermore after 7 months of vigorous rehab, Silvio never regained mobility. We were faced with the hard decision to consider quality of life. His injuries were far too great to overcome and we were forced to say goodbye to him in September. This experience has been a nightmare. Please be careful when making a decision to let a vet sedate your dog. Not all vets and or techs are qualified to care of your dog when sedated. read more

They are chronically understaffed and any vet there doesn't stay for long. I hate to do this because my wife and I love Dr. Dunbar and Dr. G (not sure if Dr. G is still there), but after so many mishaps, I feel like we should leave a review. Just to reiterate, Dr. Dunbar and Dr. G have been amazing with our two cats, but it seems like any time we've had to deal with other vets, something went awry. Dr. Dunbar and Dr. G are the reason we give two stars rather than one (with the caveat that we would leave zero if we could). First, some background: Years ago, Common Companion misdiagnosed one of our cats, saying she was fine when she had a VERY serious pancreas condition called EPI. If Dr. Dunbar had not taken a second look at the test results, our cat could've gotten much sicker than she did, perhaps even died. That's how serious the condition is. Dr. Dunbar delivered the correct diagnosis, and with medication, our furbaby is happy as can be. She just turned 8. But that was strike one for Common Companion. Years later, my wife became frustrated with the slow pace of communication, on a matter that she felt was quite serious. On her third or fourth call to the office that day, she explained that our first cat died because of a misdiagnosis (separate vet), Common Companion had previously misdiagnosed another cat, and that she was just worried because of some articles she'd read online. About 30 minutes later, someone at CC wrote a text -- to whom, we don't know -- basically saying that my wife was being pushy and overreacting again after "reading things on the internet." The kicker? She sent the text to my wife! Yeah. She mocked my wife in a text intended for, I assume, a vet and accidentally sent it to my wife instead of the vet. We got a half-hearted apology from the owner, who made a ton of excuses. It felt hollow. We stayed because of Dr. Dunbar. But that was strike two. A few weeks back, we took our other cat to the Reynoldstown location for dental work. They were prepping him -- catheters already in his arms -- when bloodwork showed high calcium. X-rays showed bladder stones. They pulled the catheters out of his arms, called us to pick him up and told us that he had to see a specialist before any dental work could be completed. When I pressed further, I was told that high calcium can be a sign of cancer or thyroid problems. Terrifying stuff, right? Well, most cases of hypercalcemia (high calcium) are idiopathic, meaning doctors have no idea what the cause might be. Seriously. But Common Companion jumped straight to the scariest diagnoses, mentioning only in passing that it could be idiopathic. In trying to locate a specialist, three vets told us they wouldn't have canceled our boy's dental work over hypercalcemia, especially if he hadn't shown other signs of illness. Plus, they said, he was already prepped and cathetered. Two vets said they would've taken care of the bladder stones while he was under for the dental work. One said she would've done the dental work and prescribed a special food that can help break up the calcium stones. Well, the specialist ran an ultrasound, which Common Companion could've done but didn't, and found no masses on his organs and no issues with his thyroid. She didn't like the quantity or size of the stones, so a few days later, she put him under and took care of the bladder stones. She then told me she'd skipped the dental work because it didn't appear he needed it this year. Wow. Can you think of three wilder veterinary experiences? We love Dr. Dunbar, but we may start looking around for a new vet. While the majority of interactions are good or excellent, these types of major mishaps are happening a little too frequently for us. read more

We took our dog to common companion as he was in his transitioning stage of life for professional diagnosis on his condition. While we were there, they took him to the back for fluids and checking on his situation. The vet came in, and of course in a traumatic time, you want to be told all possibilities of what you can do in a situation such as ours. He told us they were trying to stabilize him by giving him fluids, oxygen and trying to warm him up with a water bottle. The vet kept calling him "little dog" (not calling him by his name) and rambling on as if he had any chances for surviving overnight. We were thinking he would give us his veterinary expertise for his next steps, but it seemed as if he was feeding us false hope by telling us that if we could take him to an overnight emergency vet (since they didn't have the facilities to keep him overnight), that maybe the ER could stabilize him, although he was already in transition. They told us if we could make it to the ER in 20 minutes, maybe they could keep him for observation. The only available ER who could take our dog was over 30 minutes away in Atlanta traffic. They kept him in the back for over two hours instead of giving us time to stay with our pet while he transitioned peacefully. When they give us our pet back after keeping him, he had even less vitality than when we brought him in. While the vet left, the techs gave us a bill for over $1000 as we were already distraught. The care they gave was not one of compassion as it just seemed they could have given us the hard talk to tell us to let him go by putting him down. That wasn't even an option given to us. We felt like it was big money grab as we were experiencing one of the hardest moments of our life. Then learning they became private equity, the care and compassion isn't there anymore. They are super accommodating and will work me in even if I call that day. They even helped me put a feral cat down because the mobile vet couldn't come that day. My husband and I adopted a dog in 2020 and chose Common Companion as our vet. Since then, we've consistently experienced exceptional care from their veterinarians and techs, who I believe are the best in Atlanta. It's disappointing to write this review and give them less than 5 stars because they've always been compassionate towards all the pets in their care. During one visit, I waited over two hours for a routine appointment due to an emergency animal needing immediate attention. I didn't mind the wait at all, as it showed how much the staff cares about their patients. Recently, we moved outside of Atlanta and have been hesitant to find another vet because of how amazing the staff at Common Companion is. However, today I had an appointment and got stuck in unexpected traffic on I-75, making us 20 minutes late. Despite calling ahead, the front desk receptionist was rude and dismissive, which has now motivated me to look for another vet despite my love for the vet team and technicians. This is a wonderful office if you live in the city, but it's challenging to get to and parking is difficult. I would highly recommend it for city residents; otherwise, you might want to find someplace more accessible. read more

I had to change vets when I moved into the midtown area and after doing some searching I found some really great reviews about Common Companion. I took my two cats here for their annual visit and I have NEVER seen them so relaxed or treated so well. Immediately when I walked in I was shown to a private room because they had a dog getting ready to leave and didn't want to alert the cats. They had plenty of treats for them. When the exam started, my shyest cat hid under the desk and instead of dragging him out, the veterinarian actually laid on the floor and performed his exam in his comfort spot!!! Y'all... this blew my mind. I've never had that happen and it made my cat so comfortable that he actually came out after that. At one point a staff member was vacuuming and my cats heard it and got a little spooked. But immediately the assistant walked out and asked them to stop until we had left. I was constantly wow-ed by my experience. They have excellent services, great location (although it took me a few extra minutes to initially find it) and incredible staff. I just got my first dog 6 months ago so I'm currently one of those new dog moms (i.e. scared outta my mind, inspecting every poop and scratch probably too intensely right now). That being said my dog was itching and making himself bleed last night so I panicked. I called another vet near me who said they were booked for new patients until the end of the month, but recommended Common Companion Vet as an option for new patients. It was after their clinic hours, but I went to their website and made an appointment online for 9am the next day! AMAZING! The day of the appointment they sent me an email asking for my dog's records which I emailed back. When I arrived they already had all the information they needed...no paperwork to fill out when I got there! The staff greeted my dog with treats, took his picture, weighed him, and took him straight back to a room. Dr. Younker spent a lot of time with us examining my dog, explaining what was going on (probably more than 20min in total). Turns out he was having an allergic skin reaction and an eye infection. He recommended a steroid shot which he gave in the office and sent us home with eye drops. I also purchased flea and tick prevention from them. We left with the medications in hand. My dog felt very comfortable there. He relaxed and even laid down when Dr. Younker was in the room which I have never seen my dog do. I'm new to dog ownership but the prices seemed comparable to other vet visits. I've had a difficult time finding a vet since I moved to Atlanta from Chattanooga that is thorough and affordable, and I decided to give this place a try yesterday. The staff was very friendly upon calling and arrival. I was offered a bottle of water, and the office is very cute. I wish I could offer more stars but..... My appointment was at 2:00pm. I arrived at 1:50 and was in a room by 2:00; however, it was after 2:20 before the tech entered the room to get my dog's background. She apologized because there was only one doctor and she had been stuck in surgery, which is understandable. The time between each time someone came in the room was unacceptable. I was the only person there when I arrived, and I did not check out until 3:50pm! I even walked out into the reception area to ask the front desk lady if I could pay and be finished, that I had been there almost two hours. The doctor was nice; however, after the first time I saw her I never saw her again. I had additional questions, such as about the food I've been feeding my dog (grilled chicken, carrots, & green beans, instead of kibble), but I was there so long and she never came back that I didn't even want to bother with it. Additionally, while my dog was getting her shots, I opted to get one for heartworm protection for a year. When it was time for this shot, I stopped the doctor and asked if my dog's heartworm test came back negative? I asked this because at my old vet (where I worked as a tech for my senior year of college), it can be fatal to give a dog certain heartworm protection if they tested positive for heartworms. The tech confirmed she would go check to make sure, and then came back and said they hadn't started it but they were running it now. I had already been there an hour at this point! The same thing happened with my dog's urinalysis. I brought in her urine to be tested for a UTI, and it was honestly an hour and a half before they even ran it. The tech was back writing up my invoice and said medications may change based on the results, but they hadn't run it yet. What do you mean?!? I literally walked in with her urine in my hand over an hour and half before that. I know the process for running this and it is not difficult, nor is a heartworm test. It is very quick in fact. Lastly, this place is literally twice as expensive as my previous vet, AND other vets I have been to. Please see pictures attached for receipts: Physical exam: Common Companion: $59.75 Riverview: $30.55 Rabies: Common Companion: $65.00 for a three year rabies Riverview: $14.78 for a 1 year shot. x3 years = $44.34 DLHP-PV Common Companion: $39.00 Riverview: $17.69 Bordetella: Common Companion: $37.50 Riverview: $17.95 Heartworm test: Common Companion: $42.80 Riverview: $22.50 While I understand the differences in property value and cost based on locations, a difference of $112 seems a bit excessive for the SAME EXACT SHOTS. I will say- they comped my nail trim because I had waited so long, which I did appreciate because I can't believe it was $22.50 for the job that was done. I could've done that at home myself! And I typically do, but I wanted them to be done nicely and smoothly since I always take care of it at home. The last trip I went to Riverview I was able to get the full spectrum of shots, physical, a bag of dental chews, and six months of heartworm, intestinal parasite, flea & tick treatment for TWO DOGS for $374. Driving to Riverview in the future is 100% worth the time, money, and attention to detail. Lastly- I got a quote for a dental to get my dogs teeth cleaned. Keep in mind she is only 37 pounds (so doesn't take a lot to put her under), has NO dental issues (I brush her teeth) and the estimate was $901!!!!!!!!! RIP OFF! Again, I will be driving to Chattanooga for this procedure. My sister just returned from taking her dog for a dental there last week, and it was just shy of $300 out the door, with proactive preliminary bloodwork and a physical included. Overall, I will not be returning here. I had a subpar experience, waited two hours, and was charged what seems to be basically double, if not more. Do not recommend. I will say.....the staff was friendly, but unfortunately of the two hours I was there, I spent maybe a total of 20 minutes interacting with them, while the rest of time was spent waiting in the room. read more

For the second time in 2 years Dr John Younker and his staff at Common Companion went above and beyond with their genuine compassion and kind support for both Buddy and our family. Almost exactly 2 years ago, I called Dr Younker in desperation as my boy Gus was struggling(we knew he was failing). Dr John was already home for the evening with his family. Without hesitation, he doubled back to his clinic, gathered everything needed and came straight to our house. We felt so comforted and relieved having him there. With Gus and now Buddy gone, there's a big void in our house but we'll never forget the loving support from our friends at Common Companion including Jonee', Celeste and Libby. Our cat, Memez, had a stroke and needed to be put to sleep. It was a Saturday morning, and Common Companion were able to get us in within an hour (we had never been there). They were incredibly accommodating and comforting. Memez was 17 and a huge part of our lives. Dr. Dunbar discussed every step of the process, and each decision was made with us (from IV placement to anxiolytic to cremation vs taking her home w/ us). They also allowed us as much time as we needed with Memez after she passed without pressuring us to leave. A few days later we received a handwritten card signed by all the staff offering their condolences and best wishes. It was a thoughtful and truly very heartwarming gesture. I really can't say enough about how empathetic and gracious Dr. Dunbar was. It meant a great deal. I can't speak to their routine veterinary care, as I have no experience with it, but the next time I need a vet I will definitely go to Common Companion. read more

I had to come back and update my precious 5 star review. My last two vet visits have cost me almost $700 for typical puppy issues. Echoing other reviews that they charge basically double. Note - this was not with Dr Yonker but the new vet Dr jen. But I feel like I was constantly pushed to buy a lot of meds and spend extra money when not necessary. The straw that made me decide to stop coming here is when they overcharged me $70 to run a test for my pup after miscommunications with me thinking it was covered in the original $300 vet visit I paid. When I tried to explain, they basically blamed me for not understanding their costs even know it was never relayed to me whatsoever. Also the meds given didn't even work. I'm now at a new vet and the new antibiotics work great. I get it, they're in inman park so rent is high. But the prices here have gotten crazy. At my first visit, I sent the rescue organization's vet I got my dog the meds they prescribed my dog and she told me this was an excessive amount of meds to give a puppy at once. Overall I'm disappointed because I loved going here with my last puppy but won't be coming again. read more

Do *not* allow A Cox to operate on your pet. She performed a lipoma removal on my dog - my dog had the same procedure a few years back without any complications. My dog has been whimpering in pain for days now. The incision is twice as large as the dog's first surgery, it is jagged and feverish. There is still a marble-sized piece of tissue under the incision. This vet practice ignored many requests for rx approvals. Do *NOT* take your pet to Common Companion. read more

Just took my new puppy in for his first vet visit and am really happy with Common Companion Vet Co. I recently had a bad experience at a different vet and was so relieved that both me and my pup felt comfortable in this office. The staff were incredibly friendly, as was Dr. Younker, who also took the time to talk through some puppy facts with me. The space was welcoming and bright. Embarrassed I hadn't noticed her broken tooth and sad for my pup, I freaked out and inexcusably took out my feelings on Dr. Younker and his staff.
