My friends dog left for a routine exam to being completely paralyzed ! I would not trust this vet for anything. I would never take my chances here and they have admitted no wrong doing. Beware before you take your dog there and leave with one who can't even move .

Two happy and healthy kitties thanks to Common Companion!

I had to change vets when I moved into the midtown area and after doing some searching I found some really great reviews about Common Companion. I took my two cats here for their annual visit and I have NEVER seen them so relaxed or treated so well. Immediately when I walked in I was shown to a private room because they had a dog getting ready to leave and didn't want to alert the cats. They had plenty of treats for them. When the exam started, my shyest cat hid under the desk and instead of dragging him out, the veterinarian actually laid on the floor and performed his exam in his comfort spot!!! Y'all... this blew my mind. I've never had that happen and it made my cat so comfortable that he actually came out after that. At one point a staff member was vacuuming and my cats heard it and got a little spooked. But immediately the assistant walked out and asked them to stop until we had left. I was constantly wow-ed by my experience. They have excellent services, great location (although it took me a few extra minutes to initially find it) and incredible staff. I have referred multiple friends to this office and will continue to do so! Sebastian and Oliver say thank you!!!

My itemized receipt - included steroid shot in clinic, eye drops, and flea/tick prevention.

I just got my first dog 6 months ago so I'm currently one of those new dog moms (i.e. scared outta my mind, inspecting every poop and scratch probably too intensely right now). That being said my dog was itching and making himself bleed last night so I panicked. I called another vet near me who said they were booked for new patients until the end of the month, but recommended Common Companion Vet as an option for new patients. It was after their clinic hours, but I went to their website and made an appointment online for 9am the next day! AMAZING! The day of the appointment they sent me an email asking for my dog's records which I emailed back. When I arrived they already had all the information they needed...no paperwork to fill out when I got there! The staff greeted my dog with treats, took his picture, weighed him, and took him straight back to a room. Dr. Younker spent a lot of time with us examining my dog, explaining what was going on (probably more than 20min in total). Turns out he was having an allergic skin reaction and an eye infection. He recommended a steroid shot which he gave in the office and sent us home with eye drops. I also purchased flea and tick prevention from them. We left with the medications in hand. My dog felt very comfortable there. He relaxed and even laid down when Dr. Younker was in the room which I have never seen my dog do. I'm new to dog ownership but the prices seemed comparable to other vet visits. I think being able to book appointments and communicate through their website and email is a HUGE PLUS for me.

I've had a difficult time finding a vet since I moved to Atlanta from Chattanooga that is thorough and affordable, and I decided to give this place a try yesterday. The staff was very friendly upon calling and arrival. I was offered a bottle of water, and the office is very cute. I wish I could offer more stars but..... My appointment was at 2:00pm. I arrived at 1:50 and was in a room by 2:00; however, it was after 2:20 before the tech entered the room to get my dog's background. She apologized because there was only one doctor and she had been stuck in surgery, which is understandable. The time between each time someone came in the room was unacceptable. I was the only person there when I arrived, and I did not check out until 3:50pm! I even walked out into the reception area to ask the front desk lady if I could pay and be finished, that I had been there almost two hours. The doctor was nice; however, after the first time I saw her I never saw her again. I had additional questions, such as about the food I've been feeding my dog (grilled chicken, carrots, & green beans, instead of kibble), but I was there so long and she never came back that I didn't even want to bother with it. Additionally, while my dog was getting her shots, I opted to get one for heartworm protection for a year. When it was time for this shot, I stopped the doctor and asked if my dog's heartworm test came back negative? I asked this because at my old vet (where I worked as a tech for my senior year of college), it can be fatal to give a dog certain heartworm protection if they tested positive for heartworms. The tech confirmed she would go check to make sure, and then came back and said they hadn't started it but they were running it now. I had already been there an hour at this point! The same thing happened with my dog's urinalysis. I brought in her urine to be tested for a UTI, and it was honestly an hour and a half before they even ran it. The tech was back writing up my invoice and said medications may change based on the results, but they hadn't run it yet. What do you mean?!? I literally walked in with her urine in my hand over an hour and half before that. I know the process for running this and it is not difficult, nor is a heartworm test. It is very quick in fact. Lastly, this place is literally twice as expensive as my previous vet, AND other vets I have been to. Please see pictures attached for receipts: Physical exam: Common Companion: $59.75 Riverview: $30.55 Rabies: Common Companion: $65.00 for a three year rabies Riverview: $14.78 for a 1 year shot. x3 years = $44.34 DLHP-PV Common Companion: $39.00 Riverview: $17.69 Bordetella: Common Companion: $37.50 Riverview: $17.95 Heartworm test: Common Companion: $42.80 Riverview: $22.50 While I understand the differences in property value and cost based on locations, a difference of $112 seems a bit excessive for the SAME EXACT SHOTS. I will say- they comped my nail trim because I had waited so long, which I did appreciate because I can't believe it was $22.50 for the job that was done. I could've done that at home myself! And I typically do, but I wanted them to be done nicely and smoothly since I always take care of it at home. The last trip I went to Riverview I was able to get the full spectrum of shots, physical, a bag of dental chews, and six months of heartworm, intestinal parasite, flea & tick treatment for TWO DOGS for $374. Driving to Riverview in the future is 100% worth the time, money, and attention to detail. Lastly- I got a quote for a dental to get my dogs teeth cleaned. Keep in mind she is only 37 pounds (so doesn't take a lot to put her under), has NO dental issues (I brush her teeth) and the estimate was $901!!!!!!!!! RIP OFF! Again, I will be driving to Chattanooga for this procedure. My sister just returned from taking her dog for a dental there last week, and it was just shy of $300 out the door, with proactive preliminary bloodwork and a physical included. Overall, I will not be returning here. I had a subpar experience, waited two hours, and was charged what seems to be basically double, if not more. Do not recommend. I will say.....the staff was friendly, but unfortunately of the two hours I was there, I spent maybe a total of 20 minutes interacting with them, while the rest of time was spent waiting in the room.

    Best Vet Ever.

I really love this doctor! My first visit was an emergency situation with that little Yorkie pictured. They took me in on a Saturday right away and took care of my baby. The second trip was just as seamless. They take their time and really show a genuine concern for your pet (and have fun doing it-which I love). They have definitely found a lifelong client with me. I love it here!

This tragic outcome raises serious concerns about the care provided and highlights the need for greater accountability in veterinary practices. Silvio, was experiencing intermittent back pain, which was managed with physical therapy. To explore further imaging options (X-rays/MRI) and to fully understand Silvio's condition, I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Gelernter at Common Companion Vet Co's Inman Park location to discuss the risks of imaging with sedation explicitly. During this consultation, Dr. Gelernter assured me: - Sedation was a routine, safe procedure with minimal risks, providing peace of mind. - Appropriate sedatives would be carefully selected specifically for a large-breed dog. - Pre-sedation bloodwork would be performed to reduce risks further. Despite explicitly asking multiple times, she never disclosed that sedation could trigger acute neurological events, such as paralysis, particularly in a dog with known spinal issues. On the procedure day (February 10), no informed consent documents outlining these risks were presented. My husband, who dropped Silvio off, was neither given verbal warnings nor was the promised bloodwork performed. Immediately following sedation reversal, Silvio was completely paralyzed in all four limbs. When my husband arrived to transfer Silvio to Blue Pearl for emergency care, he witnessed clinic staff dragging Silvio on a stretcher across the lobby floor. This directly contradicts later claims by Dr. Gelernter that multiple technicians carefully lifted Silvio due to his size. Dr. Gelernter told me her immediate reaction upon seeing Silvio unable to move was, "Oh my God, did you slip a disc?" Later, she asserted that other veterinarians confirmed paralysis can occur under sedation with IVDD, attempting to deflect responsibility despite having previously assured safety and never disclosing this risk. Alarmingly, she later expressed uncertainty about sedating dogs in the future if paralysis was a known risk. This inconsistency raises serious concerns about her competence and accountability. This error by Common Companion Veterinary Clinic devastated our lives. Adding insult to injury, Common Companion billed us for the procedure causing Silvio's paralysis. When I shared our experience online, the clinic publicly responded with misleading statements claiming compassion. Privately, however, they abruptly cut off communication. Our family's lives and mental health have been profoundly impacted. Caring for a quadriplegic large-breed dog is emotionally, physically, and financially exhausting. We rearranged our home, acquired specialized equipment, and incurred substantial medical expenses--all stemming from an entirely preventable situation. Had the risks been adequately disclosed, we would NEVER have proceeded with the X-rays. This is not merely an unfortunate outcome (which is exactly what Dr. Gelernter actually said to me); it represents negligence, incompetence, and a total lack of accountability. Three weeks ago, I formally requested that Common Companion: - Acknowledge failures in informed consent and risk disclosure. - Provide transparency regarding external specialist consultations. - Immediately review and revise sedation and consent protocols. - Fully reimburse incurred medical and rehabilitation expenses due to their negligence. They have not responded, yet quickly responded publicly to my Google review. My emotional reaction might influence my perspective, but my concerns are valid and rooted in genuine care for Silvio. Dismissing or minimizing this is insensitive and ignores their negligence's profound and lasting impact. Pet owners deserve transparency, accountability, and fully informed consent from those entrusted with our companions' lives. Our pets deserve better! No family should endure this preventable heartbreak. Included are images of Silvio on the way to the appointment and, heartbreakingly, of him the next day, unable to move.

Fortunately for me, Dr. Huggins doesn't either. She lets herself really, truly care about her patients (and their owners). Yes, she is a good veterinarian, but what makes her different than other good veterinarians is her empathy and loving heart. Every time she saw my babies, the first thing she would do is just love on them and talk to them. She gave them excellent care. When my beloved beagle developed a nasty tumor, she sat me down immediately after the biopsy and told me the truth: that the biopsy results were going to be bad. That allowed me to prepare myself, so when the results came back as terminal cancer, I was devastated, but not shocked. Another amazing thing she did was guide me through the complicated process of navigating specialty clinics and helped me make good decisions for my baby. He only lived three more months, but without treatment it would have been a couple weeks. I appreciated every day I had with him, and Dr. Huggins was always there to answer questions and help me make him more comfortable during treatment. Since Dr Anderson left the customer experience and care has gone so far down hill. I am thrilled that I no longer live in Atlanta because I would be having to find a new vet for my fur kids but we have since moved out of state. Over the past year since our original vet that we saw at IPAH left to start their own practice, we did see one vet who was great but she too left right after, and a few other not so great appointment. The care level went down and was on par with any other big box vet. Not great, but the more egregious part is the customer service experience. I have a dog with epilepsy. He has been on meds for going on 2 years now. For the first 9 months he was on his meds I only needed to have it called in once from the initial diagnosis. that went on for 9 months. After he had his first follow up blood test (and once Dr. Anderson left) suddenly I had to start calling in his meds through my vet every month. That's fine but no reason given and no context. When I called the vet the frost time it happened they seemed confused and were like you have always had to do this...no. Nope. Sorry this is the forst time anyone has mentioned it. And I had picked up his meds monthly for the past 9 months without doing so. They argued with me. I didn't care and am happy to do it but that was news to me and not the experience we had been living for the first 9 months. They actually argued this point with me - but like how was I getting it f I have not been calling you? If that was something that was supposed to be explained to me it had never happened until that first call 9 months in. So that was missed...which is a pretty big deal for them as his meds are a controlled substance and legally I don't know that happened and was missed for so long. I mean it worked in my favor so I'm not complaining but its something you should know of you are thinking about becoming their patient. Since then, any time I have had to call them (for meds, a followup with questions, booking an appointment, etc) it is always multiple calls. If they don't pick up and you have to leave a VM, they will not get back to you. You will just have to call again. Multiple times have they called in my dogs meds tot h wrong pharmacy despite my having only picked it up at a singal location the entire time he has been on them. Once they actually called it into a random pharmacy in FL. I didn't tell them to do this. I didn't give them a pharmacy in FL to call it into. I don't know why and they never gave me an explanation. At my last visit which was sometime in summer 2025, we were planning a move having just bought a new home. We did not have a move date though as we were doing minor renovations to the new home. When you have a chronically ill pet you have to plan that out meticulously as there are laws surrounding his meds. The the vet I spoke to said his currently meds should be fine though January of the following year (so Jan 2026) but once we moved they could only call it in over state lines one time. All good. That was clear. We did not end up moving until Nov 2025 (well within that window Since that appointment, every time I have called in his meds it has been a battle (ans multiple calls) to get them to fill his meds. That doctor is no longer there. I have had to constantly reiterate that we were told point blank that he should be fine until Jan 2026. Well here we are in January 2026 the first time I have had to fill his prescription in FL at our new home, and they are refusing to fill it. Causing me to have to move his already scheduled appointment with his new vet. Please save yourself time and drama and go elsewhere. While this used to be a good vet that really cared about your pets they lost their best doctors and are not just an expensive boutique vet. While staff is generally friendly in person they can't seem to do the most basic elements of their job. Everything is a hassle and the manager in particular has the "customer service" voice down to a level that fells almost smug its so condescending. I would know as I have had to speak with him often. I fully expect some sort of retort to this and I wont be bothering just know you'll be saving yourself time and probably a lot of money by going elsewhere.
