However, since their passing, I have found the office to be difficult to work with. I called to cancel my parents' home and auto insurance, had a hard time getting anyone to take my calls, and when I finally did, was issued a refund check to my (deceased) mother for part of the car policy. I cannot cash it and State Farm will not reissue it in my name, according to the office. Then, my deceased parents were charged for umbrella insurance. When I called the office, they saw that indeed that the policy and the autopay agreement was still in effect. I pointed out that as my parents are both dead -- a conversation I have had with that office three times now -- they certainly are not using it and that I was surprised this policy was not identified the last time I called. The agent said she is getting another refund check issued but it too can only go to my mother since I am not on any of their accounts. (Why would I be??) I don't care about the money; I care that no one at that office could take the time to thoroughly look and see what accounts were active, close them out the first time I called to report my mother's death, and that (according to B. Shelley's office) State Farm insists on issuing uncashable checks to my deceased mother because otherwise "they could never monitor" who was scamming them and who isn't. That does not make sense to me. There must be thousands of people each year who have to close their parents' accounts, etc. Is State Farm just keeping the money? In a million years, I would not buy State Farm insurance at this point. We are Liberty Mutual customers and have had a great experience with them fwiw.
