So I went in to buy a Jetta for my son. We had a great experience with Jeff and quickly arrived at a price. But then their incredible complexity of trying to buy the car starts. They epitomize why everyone hates going into a dealership. Back and forth getting the paperwork. Duplication. Specific visit to sign where we thought we were getting the car - nope - they need few more days etc. Apparently they haven't heard of Covid or seen their competitors are literally dropping off cars to their new owners having never been to the dealership. Way too complicated and elsewhere is infinitely easier. Latest is I'm having to chase them to get the deposit back. 6/24 - told people were on vacation but will take care of it. 6/29 manager back and processing it that day. July 8 still nothing. . I contacted the attorney general to try and help me as well. Overall seem like good people but think it's car buying circa 1982. Go elsewhere. read more

My wife was in the market for a pre-owned Tiguan and we found a nice looking one listed at Commonwealth. We went in on a Sunday to take a look and she loved it. We dealt with salesman Jeff Parent to work out the numbers. He was able to get us the deal we wanted so we agreed to purchase it an we signed the paperwork. There was a small hang up with the bank that owned the car we were trading in so I spent all Monday on the phone working it out. At the end of the business day we called off the deal. Later that night I was able to fix the problem so I called Jeff the next morning to let him know the deal was back on. We went two days later to pick up the car. That's when Jeff convoluted the numbers to hide an extra $500 charge. Upon me questioning his calculations, he said this was because the car needed new tires. This is a cowardly excuse because the original advertisement stated it had brand new tires. They tried to cover this up saying that statement only included 2 tires and it needed all 4. They explained they hadn't fully checked out their own car before giving me that price. I felt the honorable thing to do was for them to honor their word and still sell me the car at the stated price. His response was that that deal was dead and if I still wanted the car I would have to accept this new deal. (true colors revealed) I inspected the new tires and pulled them up on tirerack.com where the two additional tires which they installed retail for $120 per tire. This doesn't explain the $500 charge. Furthermore, I cannot imagine a dealership pays retail price for their tires. At that point my wife was still in love with the car and it was what we were looking for even though I lost all respect for the dealer, I still went ahead with the purchase (after negotiating down the $500). They knew once we were there to sign paperwork they could get another couple hundred bucks out of us rather than us walking away and they were right, but I'll never deal with them again. The overall experience was disappointing because I didn't think this size dealership would do those dirty, under-handed tricks to make an extra buck. Also, I feel bad for the employees because they apparently value money over dignity. A man is only as good as his word. I hope they can gain some perspective in the future. read more

Commonwealth says to shop them last but I never made it past them to another dealer when I bought my 2018 VW GTI. They weren't pushy at all. I told them the price I was at after comparing prices at other VW dealers and they were extremely competitive. They didn't have the exact car I wanted based on color and options but were able to get me one in only a few days. My sales representative from Commonwealth Volkswagen, Anthony Vancini, really went above and beyond to help me find the right car for me. Upon entering Commonwealth VW, I knew some of the features I was looking for, but I wasn't at all certain what type of vehicle I wanted (compact sedan, midsized sedan, cross-over, SUV). Anthony certainly spent time helping me to narrow it down - we test drove 6 car models at multiple Commonwealth dealerships (VW & Honda), and I got pricing on even more. I had endless questions about trims for each model, and the associated pricing for each. Anthony took the time to provide me with very detailed information, and made excellent suggestions based on my list of must-have's and price-range - I was able to make a chart that included the cost for each model and trim, the monthly payment to purchase each vehicle, and the monthly payment for leasing each vehicle (10k/annual mileage and 12k/annual mileage pricing), to determine which car made the most sense for me amenity-wise and financially. And best of all -I came armed with prices quoted from other dealerships, ready to use them in the event Commonwealth's pricing wasn't, but Commonwealth's pricing beat the other quotes, so I didn't even have to use them. For the service center. These people will scam you and take your money. Came here a little under a year ago for an annual check up on my Jetta. It was supposed to be a free service. I wait for about an hour and a half and a gentlemen came out to talk to me. He said that a part needed to be replaced on the back brakes. Apparently they were rusting. He said it would cost $45. I said okay go ahead $45 is alright. In an hour the car was ready again. It wasn't fully explained to me exactly what need to be replaced just that it need to get done and it would be easy. Because of this I didn't second guess them. When it came time to pay I was handed a bill for $480. Apparently the man heavy Boston accent made the $480 bill sound like $45. I explained that I had not agreed to this. When I gave them the go ahead to replace the part I said "$45 sure I can pay that today". I was scammed. There were no apologies or acknowledgment of wrong doing on the part of the service center. I was told once the parts were on I needed to pay and they wouldn't take them off. I would NEVER recommend this place. Honestly the worst part of it all, is that my back breaks still squeak a year after they put this new part in. Whatever they did only made things worse. I am not one to ever leave a bad review but feel as though this was needed. Buyer Beware!!! Will never go here again. They took advantage of us. Not only did they lowball the price of my trade in, they told me it would cost more money to get the color of the new car I wanted because they didn't have it on the lot... which is a lie after talking with another Volkswagon dealership in the area. They just wanted the sale of whatever car was on the lot. The next morning we decided to cancel our deal within the legal 48 hours because we left feeling uneasy about it. They told us they couldn't give us back our deposit. Not only did we not complete any of the paperwork the night before, I have not switched any of my insurance over and they don't have the title to my car, nor did I take a new car home. They refused to give me my deposit back. After calling several dealerships with our situation in the state of MA this is illegal to not give you your deposit back with canceling within the 48 hours!!!! Do not go here!! Dirtbag sleazeballs.... They WILL get you the best price going on a new car... BUT they also WILL try to make it up elsewhere, like trying to screw you on your trade-in value. When they presented me their "deal", the trade in value they were offering for my car was a joke - as in at least $4000 (better than 1/4 it's value) too low. They tried to BS me into believing what I wanted for my car was retail (it wasn't --- it was trade in value based on NADA, KBB, and Edmunds trade in values). If they had actually looked up my car, they were offering me trade-in for high miles, rough condition -- my car had about 1/2 the usual miles for it's age and was in showroom condition. They got downright rude and indignant when I stood up and told them no deal and got ready to leave. I had to argue with them for about five minutes before they would finally give me my keys back and let me leave. Additionally, they left scuffs in the leather on the steering wheel that weren't there before they appraised it. Steer clear of Commonwealth VW! Do yourself a favor and go to Seacoast VW in Greenland NH -- a thoroughly pleasant dealership! BTW Frederick is my middle name and the name with which I transact ALL online business. While I appreciate that Commonwealth 'Followed Up', they won't find my name because it's not the name on my drivers license. But rest assured, my assessment of my visit to Commonwealth is gospel. They made me feel extremely uncomfortable (at first) and then very angry (when I was driving away thinking about the whole ordeal). read more

purchased a 2013 vw passat from them and talked a friend into a jetta he purchased from them and they never sent me the referal $100 they say they give you, brought my car in cause the a/c smelled and they first blamed it on the sunroof leaking, car dont have a sunroof! got the car back from them and it had grease handprints on the drivers a pillar and headliner, called after i left the dealer and they told me they would give me a full detail for having the problem. i brought the car in for 10k service and detailing and picked up the car and they did not touch the inside other then the a pillar and tried to tell me the headliner stain was a waterstain but once agan the car has NO sunroof well not one i can find anyways. i picked it up and was reading over my slip and it says nothing about the adblue for the diesel you add every 10 k , it was instruckted when i bought it and i went back in to ask them why they did not fill it and they argued with me it was supose to be dont every 20k, wierd i no more then the trained employee. but after arguing and them goin on the computer to find it found out i was correct and said to just bring it by agan, and i live 45 minnutes away its not that easy when i work the same hours they open, this morning i go to leave for work start my car and the car say's "SERVICE IN 300 MILES" they didnt even turn off the service reminder, i should have learned when they tried to take me to the cleaners for a catylic converter on my last vw and it didnt end up needing one, left there running worse then it ever has and found the vacum line for n75 valve for cat. converter to be cut, replaced it and never needed the converter will never go back and will not even return for my next 2 free oil changes read more

In respones to Commonwealth's comments. I can only base my comments on personal experience. There is no excuse for doing an incomplete job, in which the vehicle could have put the passenger lives in danger. Especially given the car was still under warranty. If someone simply could have said our master mechanic is away or if someone else could have read the tech note earlier about replacing the gear selector system. Josh was my sales person and he was great. He explained things and gave me exactly the price I wanted. After dealing with so many rude dealerships Josh was a breathe of fresh air and ultimately the reason I bought my car from commonwealth. I had my 06 Jetta repaired. The repairs were done properly but the labor charges were totally outrageous.....the bill for labor alone was ~$960 for what was basically an afternoon of repairs. According to their "diagnostic", they estimated $1,400 worth of parts and labor to fix my car. I paid them $100 for the "diagnostic" and took my car. Did some research and found out that a $30 temp sensor caused my car to crank in cold days. I ended up replacing the sensor myself and avoided paying $1.4k. Next time I want to get a check engine light reading I will go straight to Autozone and get it for free... read more

Bringing your car in for service? Think again.... I will keep this basic and to the point. First off I do want to acknowledge that the dealership has a good sales team. The service center is definitely the opposite. When I had my car in for a clutch replacement under warranty, they told me 3 days. It took them a week. The disappointing part is that they never updated me on the delay. I always had to call to get information after the 2nd day it was in the shop. On top of that they washed my car without my consent. Its not that I mind the car wash but if someone is going to do it they should do it right. Whoever washed the car actually was scratching the dirt into the paint and the trim pieces and now it is all scuffed up. Initially they offered to correct they issue and after multiple attempts they were un able to and then denied responsibility of doing damage to the car. Also they still have not followed up on replacing some trim pieces that were promised. I am extremely disappointed with their service as it cost me a lot of lost time with no resolution. Mark the service manager is very misleading and I would not trust whatever he tells you. I stopped recommending my friends and family to buy and service cars at Commonwealth motors. I will now recommend people to herb chambers and kelly for any future service or vehicle purchase. read more

Recently I visited Commonwealth VW and spoke with a friendly Salesman named Jeff, He WOWed me from the start. Jeff took the time to listen to me and what I was interested in. He then took the time in the freezing cold to show me a couple of the cars I was looking at. After earning my trust he recommended the VW CC to me. I took this for a drive and fell in love with it. Once we decided on a fair price I had told the sales manager that I was a little pressed for time. I have never had a dealership respond to my needs so much. The sales manager and Jeff got me through to finance and out very quickly. The delivery went well and they ensured the car was pristine before I picked it up.
