Steve and I recently had Kombucha from CommuniTea. We purchased the bottle from their website which directs you where to go to get their product and places that supply it. I appreciate the accuracy of this because as of late when researching with other businesses' websites on this type of situation the other businesses that a company may direct you to get their product is outdated so kudos for being up to date there. I have to say the Kombucha I got was very refreshing on the hot summer day we were encountering. I liked the tea aspects to this as is the norm with any Kombucha and this particular one I enjoyed experiencing it in the flavor profile. The Kombucha I got does have alcohol in it but not as much compared to some beers and other alcoholic beverages. I saw the Communi-Tea Kombucha booth at the U-District Market several weeks ago, tried a sample, loved it, talked to the friendly/informative guy in charge for a moment, but sadly had no cash on me (and I believe they didn't accept credit/debit). Earlier today I got a pleasant surprise when my guy stopped by my work and handed me a 17oz bottle (I believe they also have bigger ones) of their super tasty beverage. He usually avoids Kombucha but loved this one, so... this is a good sign! Extra cool: Their bottles are re-usable! You pay a deposit fee when buying, and when you return with an empty one you get a refund.... or, I'm sure, you could just get another one ;) Info from the bottle: "Made in and for the Puget Sound region." "Green tea fermented by a culture lovingly handed down for generations." "A health-giving, naturally effervescent soft drink for the 21st century." And the EVER so difficult and long ingredient list: Filtered water, organic evaporated cane juice, green tea. We were strolling along the Saturday Farmers Market in U District and came across CommuniTea Kombucha. We were offered samples which were pretty damn good. My cousin decided to purchase a bottle and he was stunned at how affordable such a large bottle was being sold for. Plus, if you bring back your bottle each week you can recycle it to save a few dollars on your next batch! We both tried the kombucha and agreed it was really quite good. We were walking around the district and found this brewery and got a bottle to enjoy at our hotel and it was delicious! Met the owner/brewmaster and he let us sample it also. The actual Kombucha has a great light taste and great effervescence without getting that bloated feeling I get from a beer. I like Kombucha, but most of what's out there is just too sweet for me. Not CommuniTea -- this stuff is just right, effervescent, and delicious. I've been a fan for a while. My sweetie and I had brunch at Judkins St. Cafe next door (pretty awesome stuff, also), while waiting for a table, and stopped by for a little peek/tour. This place is for reals. I saw their little production area -- the brewing room, refrigerators, contraptions and bags of organic sugar they use for brewing. I usually buy their stuff at Central Coop, but, as it turns out, you can buy it there also. (Also -- they have kegs!! My idea of putting a kegerator in our living room was not a great success with my sweetie, tho). read more

Absolutely love CommuniTea. The reason why CommuniTea is SO much better than the kombucha you can buy in stores is because Washington State has a law where they can't go above a certain alcohol content for the kombucha in stores, but the alcohol content allowed in stores is BELOW what great kombucha actually needs. Best Kombucha ever. Interesting location, its entrance is right next door to Central Cinema, making it look like it's just a side door for Central. Really friendly, enthusiastic staff, learned about the whole brewing process and what exactly kombucha is. We got a free sample and were instantly hooked. Still not really a place to hang out, but just pick up a growler to go. It's made entirely with green tea instead of a mix of black and green tea like most kombucha. This makes for a less sour, vinegar taste than most kombuchas I've had, huge plus. It's not flavored and doesn't need it. Price wise it's around the same as store bought bottles, it's $15 for a 64 oz growler (with bottle return) so it equals about 4.5 store bought bottles, which are usually around $3.20-4. Either way, definitely picking CommuniTea everytime! read more

This is the real deal, and one of the neatest parts of our neighborhood. They are passionate about their product and love to share and educate about the brewing process as well. I like to walk over in the morning on weekends and after yoga on my way home. It's great to have an authentic and passionate small company right here. You can also find their stuff at Whole Foods, although going to the brewery is worth doing. It's a well done, pleasant, and delicious product. If you've only tried "corporate" kombuchas off the shelf, I'd highly encourage you to try a local product made and bottled on site and see how much better you feel. I can't say enough good things. This place is a little gem in Seattle, producing amazing Kombucha in our backyard! I've been enjoying their Kombucha sold at Whole Foods but didn't realize it was brewed in the Central District where I live. I stopped in today and talked to the owner who seems really passionate about brewing Kombucha. I bought a scoby to start growing my own. It was even shaped in a heart. CommuniTea Kombucha is truly the best kombucha on the planet. It's not as sweet as many of the recent fad kombuchas, and there are not a dozen flavors to choose from, but this is a relief because the original stuff could not be improved. I think of CommuniTea almost like a fine champagne (though I could drink an entire liter in a sitting, it's so good). Their cafe space is also super cute. This Kombucha is the best! The fizz is fine (smaller bubbles?)-- I talked to the brewer and learned that a lot of kombucha sold in the stores starts out with carbonated water. CommuniTea Kombucha gets its fizz 100% from the brewing/fermentation process. I like it better; it's more refined, more subtle. Also, the flavor is "bright" with almost a hint of citrus and herbaceous notes. I'm glad I can go to the brewery directly to buy the brew! It doesn't get any more local than this!
