Tiny mead bar tucked in a basement along the mercantile strip of Fremont. The decor is bee themed and pretty trippy (in a good way). It's a very small space: a couple tables inside, a couple bar seats, and a couple more tables outside in the area between buildings. They serve 1oz sample flights (in addition to full pours) which are perfect for exploring the options. They have a list of 15-20 meads ranging from dry to extremely sweet. Super fun, kind of hidden, cute spot! I've always seen the sign but never came in until this past week with a few friends! This was my first time trying mead and I really liked a lot of them! The bubbly ones on tap were lighter and really yummy! I definitely like sweeter drinks, so the dessert ones (black magic and isilu shadow) were high on my list. They had lots of flavors with most of them being fruity. There are a few options for flights, and the choice to try every single flavor! The actual indoor area was pretty small, with only enough room for the bar, one table for 6 and a little bar top seat, and the bathroom. Because of the size, the bathroom is literally 2 feet away from the table and is inside a sliding door that does not fully seal shut. It was decently loud inside with the music playing but definitely not the place to go if you need privacy in the bathroom. They had another couple tables (2/3?) outside but it's tucked in a narrow alley so it was pretty tight out there as well. There is a stack of games to play inside and it has great decor! Overall, the drinks, vibes, and service were great! We had 7 people and completely filled the inside of the shop, so I would recommend a smaller group. The shop is down a narrow set of stairs between 2 building and another few stairs from the door down to the bar. I'm not sure if there is another entrance, so I believe this would be inaccessible for someone who was unable to use stairs. 4/5! A tourist to Seattle, I knew I needed to check out a meadery. I love mead, but hailing from the desert-I don't really have any options for local mead. I was so glad me and my husband checked this place out. Is a small area with enough seating for a couple of small parties to sit in. The server was fantastic, super friendly and had great recommendations and told us about the different meads they had and where they came from. We did two flight tastings, got a couple of cups for the ones we liked the most, and bought a bottle of one I really enjoyed to take home. The ambience is great, very cute very earthy. The larger seating table also had some board games if you want to play and sip. And the bathroom- an experience in the best way. It's a rain forest, and even though the whole area is small, nothing feels cramped and everything is sound proofed enough to not hear bathroom activities (this is important in a small establishment okay!). I went here to taste the rainbow, yummm. This place makes mead, which is honey wine, so you would have thought that the wine is all sweet. Nope, there are a few variants that are dry, so not sweet, which can be quite an interesting experience and it did open up the world of mead to me. Mead is not really that common, and different regions do it differently, as the last time I had mead was in New Zealand where the wine is particularly sweet. My friend and I tried the Taste the Rainbow which is basically 18 1oz pours to try out everything on the menu for $39 (tax included). My favorites are the lavendar and black magic, with which I got one bottle and the server was nice to give both of us $7 discounts for the bottle due to the tasting. The pours are beautifully arranged in a honeycomb of 6 pours, so we got a total of 3 honeycombs where we can arrange it to a pattern of our liking. Have you ever walked by the random yellow door in Fremont, between Rudy's Barber Shop and Nuna Ramen? I have, and one day I read what it said on the door. "Mr. B's Meadery." I vowed to one day return, when that door opened. And I did. And it was kinda magical. We walked down a narrow staircase and to the right was the entrance to a small & dark bar- but the bright colors made it inviting. It had a slightly mysterious and funky vibe. The worker had just opened the place up so we were the only ones there. This would normally make me feel awkward, but the worker was so easy to chat with. We ordered a flight of six and sat outside because the staircase/patio was strangely just so pleasant. All the meads were delicious! You can see which we tried, pictured below. OH! The cutest hidden gem in Fremont! It's a tiny little door sandwiched between two larger buildings, and truly looks like a little fairy hideout from an imaginative world. The actual space is very small, almost a little cramped, but you kind of don't notice it because of all the unique decorations. The mead flights are so yummy, and only $14 for a flight of 6 tasters. The menu is color coded based off sweetness level, and as I love a good sweet drink, I obviously opted for all the sweeter options. I love that you get to sample so many different types, and enjoy the mead in a cozy atmosphere with your date or friends! Wow! This was super interesting! Highly recommended trying it for the experience! I split the flight with friends. I tried the Dino's and Unicorn Blood. The Dino's (as expected) was incredibly sweet and reminds of port. The Unicorn Blood (sparking raspberry) was like Martinelli's sparking cider but raspberry flavored. What a weird, fun place! This place is super quirky but super enjoyable. The staff was very kind and welcoming. You walk in and you can order essentially 6 different shots of mead to try for $10. They definitely range in taste and our party found some they really liked, and some they didn't care for as much. They have a lot of fun little games and activities at the table - including a sketch pad. They do have a restroom you can use. The only negative is that there is really only seating for about a maximum of 9-10 people inside. We were able to sit 6 at the table and there was a party of 3 at the couch next to us. The indoor space is fairly small, there's just enough room for ~10 people. Mr. B himself helped us out, and was extremely friendly! We stopped in while enjoying some Fremont time -- after noticing someone stumble out and realizing the door went somewhere. They were about to close but the bartender said they would stay open if we wanted a drink, so we went in, enjoyed a DELICIOUS fizzy fermented honey drink, took a few blurry but fun pics in the colorful whimsy of their dollhouse-sized space, chatted a bit about tarot Tuesdays and other things with the bartender, and went happily on our way, pleased with someone going the extra mile to make our night! Best mead I've ever had and tried! My friends and I found this place next to a ramen place we ate at. It had a tiny sign and we followed it downstairs where we found this hidden gem. The person serving us (sorry I forgot his name) was an absolute pleasure. He told us the background of mead, where the mead comes from, the history of the place, and let us sample some. It was delicious. We got the sweeter meads because the bitter ones were, well, bitter. It was an intimate setting with only 5-7 seats and couple tables. I, like many people, stumbled upon this gem while walking around Fremont. From the very start at seeing Mr. B's Meadery, I associate mead drinks with Fantasy, and that is exactly what you get when you walk down the stairs and enter the tiny meadery. Decorated from floor to ceiling with fantasy references from Lord of the Rings, Mr. B does a great job of creating the perfect atmosphere for a mead tasting. The bartender working there (I'm kicking myself for not remembering his name, but he wasn't Mr. B) was incredible and passionate about getting the customers interested in mead. He added to the experience, so props to him. As far as the actual mead goes, they are delicious. I highly recommend doing the flights as we got to taste 36 different flavors, all being pretty unique. I personally liked the ginger-based ones like Ginger Apple and the Dragon's Breath which contains ghost pepper bits in it. The Dragon's breath sounds a lot spicier than it is and was very delicious. I wish I could order it online, but they don't ship out to California, so if you want a bottle of Dragon's breath, you're going to have to purchase it from Mr. B in person. read more
