I took my daughter to get self defense lessons here, and the instructor was amazing. He accommodated to our concerns of practicing indoors, because of Covid, and modified his lessons to be taught at a nearby park. Very nice place to get back in shape , awesome staff always ready to help and guide you , very friendly and happy . They really like what they do , they are very professional and they treat you with respect. I love DFMA. It's a family-friendly, LBGT-friendly, supportive, encouraging environment with skilled, compassionate, and challenging instructors. If you're looking for testosterone-cage-fighting-ubermacho-peeing-contests, you might be happier at another establishment. If you're looking for a fun, hard workout with interesting folks, this is your place. If you're looking to give your kids basic self-defense skills to keep them safe from abduction or other harm, this is your place. Before I started my training at DFMA, I hadn't been able to stick with a workout for more than one or two months. After four months at DFMA, I feel stronger, safer, and more confident. I've lost weight. I've gained muscle. And I have a great way to work off stress at the end of each day. read more

I rarely write in-depth reviews, but hear me out. I had almost no background in any martial arts when I first started their kickboxing class (for age ranges 14-30, however they also have a separate 30+ class). I was very awkward with my body and out of shape, but I never felt judged for every clumsy jab-cross I attempted. Forrest, Lauren, Michelle, and Alexis are all highly skilled and extremely approachable instructors (with great music tastes!) that care about their students. Fast forward eight months later, I am more fit, fast, and self-confident than I ever would have expected. I have also built positive, supportive relationships with the instructors as well as my fellow kickboxers! The martial arts community here is welcoming and inclusive, catering to kids, older folks, and everyone in between. The owners, one of which is renowned and active in more martial arts types than I can count, instill in students compassion and respect, and work with them to give back to their communities through volunteer opportunities. The classes here won't break your wallet like other gyms or martial arts academies (yes, I did cost comparisons with about four other kickboxing places within Sacramento). One of the more unique aspects of learning kickboxing here versus other places is a focus on gradual (emphasis on gradual, since you do not become more flexible and master technique overnight) progress towards partner sparring, while ALSO acting as a rewarding cardio workout. Most places focus on cardio rather than sparring, or ignore sparring altogether. This class does both. While the equipment is more modest compared to say, 9Round, or a fancy boxing gym, they have everything needed to teach fulfilling classes. I promise you this is NOT a paid review. Both of my daughters attend Dragon Fire MA transported after school program. My daughters love going there. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They teach the kids martial arts, discipline and respect for themselves and others, self defense and set aside time for homework completion. This is a very well run organization and provides excellent afterschool and summer camp programs for the kids. They even provide all day care on school holidays that are still workdays for most of us. I would highly recommend Dragon Fire MA to everyone. read more

DFMA is by far the most friendly, organized, well-run establishment I've ever taken my daughter to! My 8 year-old has been at DF for almost two years now and LOVES it there. Staff is so nice and so understanding....They really teach the kids a lot of discipline and martial arts, and even self-defense, which is so important. My daughter get time to work on homework, and then also gets to be very active and get her daily exercise in too. There are so many perks. My martial arts journey began back in June 2015. My son was 4 at the time and I took him to his first class at the dojo and Sifu Aaron was the instructor. He made class look so fun and dynamic it made me wish I wasn't sitting watching from the side, I wanted to be out there on the mat. I decided then to go to the next class and I have been taking classes ever since. Sifu Aaron is the reason I started and continue to do martial arts training. Sifu Aaron is a one of a kind instructor. Besides being a blast- his classes are challenging and inspiring. You will always look forward to his classes and leave wanting more time in the class. During his classes you will be dripping sweat and your body will be tired but you will be smiling and having fun and you will never want to quit. More importantly, your mind will change and how you approach challenges outside of the dojo will be changed. You will be inspired and always have his voice in your head pushing you and making you challenge yourself. If you're looking to get in top physical shape Sifu Aaron is the perfect person. I was a very fit long distance runner when I started working with Sifu. Little did I know how much more fit and strong my body could be. My body has completely changed in the few months I have been training with Sifu. I've dropped 6 pounds, 3 belts holes and 2 sizes. My body is incredibly toned and fit and I have defined abs which I never thought possible after having a baby. It has been life changing see how hard I can push my body and the limits it is capable of. You will honestly feel like a million dollars and not only that, you will change how you look at fitness and what being fit truly means. I am so much more confident and how I carry myself has changed for the better. People who see me after not having seen me in a while will tell me "You look amazing, what' your secret?" I tell them Sifu is my secret and come to his classes! Much more important to me than the physical changes my body has made is what Sifu has done for my mind and spirit and how I approach challenges both inside and outside of the dojo. He has that rare gift of knowing exactly what you need to hear, when you need to hear it. He is very tough, no excuses work with him but he knows how to teach to each individual student. He knows when you need him to be tough, when you need a pep talk, when you just need to work out. He teaches in the way he gives you what you need but he lets you figure things out for yourself. He gave me one talk on a particular Saturday, when I was just totally feeling beat down and tired, about pushing our bodies and minds and that talk changed my life. It is exactly what I needed to hear. It was tough and kind and challenging all at once. A week after that talk I ran a half marathon and I ran it 13 minutes faster than my previous half marathon time, which had only been 3 months before. It was 100% mental, the whole run I heard sifu in my head pushing me and inspiring me. It's like that quote: The mediocre teacher tells, The good teacher explains, The superior teacher demonstrates, the great teacher inspires. Well Sifu Aaron is a great teacher. He has inspired me and I see him inspire people every time he teaches. I feel like Sifu Aaron was born to teach people. He changes people's lives and minds and that ability is so rare and such a gift. If you get that chance to have him as an instructor, you are a very lucky person. read more

This is a good training facility to learn about martial arts, but the facility is not a pleasant smell overall. Also, I have heard numerous complaints about the staff members from parents of the kids who attend the after school program. For example, they are "unfair when choosing a punishment". If you could change these things, Dragonfie might become the brilliant Martial arts program it was meant to be. read more

My daughter has been attending Dragon Fire's transported after school program for almost 2 years now and I really cannot say enough good things about them... To pretty much everyone I know with kids!!! From the physical activity she does in her class, to the respect she is learning for her elders, to the mental awareness and confidence that she has gained, the program is top notch and has been instrumental in cultivating the "whole person" she has become. The instructors really care about their students and both Ms. Lois and Ms. Marin have become like an extension of our family... Anyone who has had to put their child in the care of others will understand how important that feeling is! I really love how involved they are with the community also and they are teaching the next generation how important it is to give back and to take care of those around us... I really can't imagine not having them in our lives and can't wait until the day our youngest can start attending there also! Dragon Fire is a life saver! My daughter had a family member caregiver since birth and they had to abruptly quit taking care of her. I was so nervous to find another caregiver! I interviewed a few sitters but nothing clicked. I had been told about Dragon Fire at my daughter's school. They called me the day I left a message and signed my daughter up. They pick her up at school. They provide snacks, homework time, and even meditation practice along with the martial arts classes. I am in LOVE with this program and so is my daughter! read more

It's a great place for after school care and summer/winter recess, but they also teach discipline, respect and offer physical conditioning for kids and adults. their after school program is great. fees are not cheap, but they'll pick up kids straight from school, and make sure kids do homework, entertain them while they're staying there, and if kids are staying full time, they can take the martial arts classes for free! my son is leaning not only martial arts, but how to treat others with respect and how to protect himself from strangers. read more
