One of my favorite thrift stores in the area. The prices have gone way up though but going on sale days and taking advantage of points make it worth the trip despite them changing their point system. I would've given them five stars years ago but the pricing and point system makes it a three though if I could I'd give it a 3.5 Still recommend trying it out though! Why are items on the floor if you won't sell them? I have spent hours in this store searching for an item only to find it has no price tag. The staff then refuses to sell it to me, stating they cannot because it's unpriced. This is a terrible policy. If an item is on the floor, it should be available for purchase, and the store should be able to quickly determine a price. By turning customers away, you are losing easy business. Frankly, I know the second I leave, that item will be put back out with some randomly chosen, overpriced number on it anyway. The refusal to make a sale over a simple missing tag shows a serious disregard for customer time and loyalty. read more

This is one of my favorite thrift stores. Yes, at times it can be messy, but there's always something to find to buy and the staff is always kind to me. They have great purses, great shoes, and lots of designer clothes, though they are a bit pricey. There's always a lot of sale days though! You should definitely check it out! read more

The Community Thrift store in Elgin, IL is EXTREMELY unprofessional!! They treat their customers like garbage. They're rude and extremely unprofessional. The female management staff is extremely unprofessional. Rhia store should be closed and every employee in this store should be terminated. I have donated so much to this thrift store only to be mistreated each and every time I visit this location. The management yelled and told me I had a 'big mouth' in front of the entire store simply because I wanted to purchase a $1.95 glass bottle the cashier stated I changed the price tag amount!! What! Reminds me much of goodwill but a different style thift store. Its pretty much a standard hand me down store and I had no issues with any of the workers there. I was able to find some items for cheap and hopefully I will be back again when I have time. read more

Out of any thrift store in my area, this one is my favorite. I usually go for physical media & they always have a big selection. They also have a great selection of electronics. Plus them being open til 9pm Monday-Saturday is awesome too if you wanna thrift later in the day. read more

I went thrifting here and all of the racks are packed. You cant move the clothes apart from eachother more than a cm. I then liked a sweater that had no tag on it so she told me that she would keep it for me for tomorrow so it could be repriced. We came back today and it was somehow lost. The bright yellow tag that had my name in big captial letters was somehow ripped off. The girl working was rude and never once seemed friendly. Most of the clothes here were overpriced and not good quality. $15.00 for a see-through sweater? I think not. I wouldnt recommend going here. Used to be super affordable, they recently redid pricing and it's ABSURDLY high now. 20 bucks for old Walmart dresses, things priced higher than original retail. Cherry on top, I found a nice jacket last week, got to the register and they refused to sell it to be because they said the 5 dollar price was low and they wanted more, even though they put the price on it themselves. When my husband asks if I want to wait in the car, it must be pretty gross. This thrift store is a little frightening. I have to agree with the other reviewers that the place is a mess and complete chaos. I really didn't feel like looking through or sifting around for fear something with four legs would jump out. It's an obstacle course of icky stuff laying all over the floor along with kids strewn across the dirty store floor- ick with their parents nowhere to be found. It's not well organized and reminds me of a Hoarders episode. I'm usually armed with plenty of Purell on hand after going to thrift stores, in this case I may need to add some tetanus to my purse. Stopped in here today, I'm an avid thrifter and have no problem finding awesome clothes for me and my kids usually. This store shocked the heck out of me. Most tags I looked at were $19 or more. Pilled sweaters, workout leggings, basic tee shirt dresses...lowest I saw was $9. I took advantage of their blue tag items $18.95 or less becoming .99 today, I found one dress that was worth it. In general it was dirty, bad warehouse lighting, unfriendly employees. I was majorly disappointed to see used car seats for sale-huge hazard. Please do not buy a car seat you don't know the history of. There is no way to know if it will protect your child in an accident. I'd love to support a grassroots thrift store over big companies like Savers and Goodwill but these prices are ridiculously out of touch and the store is just plain unpleasant. A plastic bag with a handful of dominos in it is not, and will never be, worth $7.85. Yikes. read more

Very disappointed in the donation center standards. I called ahead to make sure I hadn't missed it, then rushed over and out of my way to try to donate these items, because their hours don't work for me for about another month. I get there 10 minutes before they close, a man standing in the door by a closed sign just stands there looking at me and just shakes his head no. He then goes back to a seat and sits down to do nothing. If you say you close at a certain time, and even let me know over the phone, then you need to follow that. read more

I don't know what they are thinking here in this thrift store. The Place is filthy, disorganized, and a mess. There is absolutely no organization with anything in the store other than things being separated out by skirts, dresses, or pants etc. Nothing else is broken down by size or color or anything like that. It takes you forever to look for anything in the store. The pricing here is ridiculous! They seem to think that if an item has a new tag on it that you should pay 50% of what the new cost was. So something claims from say Ross that the value is $150 they think you're going to pay $75 for it! Well when you buy something from Ross it says it was valued at 150.you're typically not even paying $75 at Ross for it. Seriously ? There was a bridesmaids dress which has SAMPLE stitched across it. One of the worst thrift stores in the area. Just walked out, realized I had the wrong item, and they refused to return or exchange less than a minute after. The prices are regularly too high, many of their service reps are flat-out rude, and one time I, not even joking, found a used crack pipe in a box on the sales floor. Good thing I opened the tape that they put on many of their boxes to discourage customers from finding out what they are buying! If my friend was not a thrift addict, I would never go here again. I've driven past there countless times, and one day decided to stop in. I was pleasantly surprised at the sheer amount of *everything* they had in there. I went specifically before the summer in search of boys shorts. They had them and the amount of clothes was a bit overwhelming. The prices for the shorts were in the $3-5 range, and I didn't think it was too bad considering what I normally spend at a department store. Be sure to de-hangar your garments prior to checkout, they have a hangar rack there for your used hangars. Otherwise the cashier will turn you away, and go onto the next customer until your garments are ready. read more

I really don't understand most of the low reviews. It is a thrift store! The environment is greatly dependent upon the people that go there. They cannot be responsible for people that let their kids run around or shoppers that leave things in the wrong places or drop things on the floor. Whenever we have been there, I have been very impressed by the selection. They just have so much! I haven't had any trouble with the organization and always find the section I'm looking for. We have found some amazing things, and the prices are generally reasonable. Again... It's a thrift store! What they have will change every time you are there, and some things are bound to be priced better than others. You have to be willing to spend some time and look. Sadly, we no longer live as close, but whenever we're in the area, we always go out of our way to make a stop here, and I am never disappointed by the things I find. read more

I have been in this location a few times. Been to the one in Aurora for over 15 years. LOVE it. yes it's a bit dusty, and you do have to hunt for stuff, it's organized by dresses, short sleeved shirts, long sleeved shirts, pants, skirts, etc. but not by size. get over it. this is not Nordstroms. it is stuff at a very discounted price, I have found LOTS of designer items, clothes and more, but love it for a great variety of items. Coffee cups, gift bags, silk flowers, clothes, purses, tshirts, golf clubs, a desk. SO MUCH Some days it's a great day, some you find nothing. That's the fun of thrifting. read more

I also am surprised by the postings and think there may be some confusion as I don't believe that this store - across from Santa's Village - has been fire damaged. I have been visiting here for years and the structure has not changed. And the prices have always been reasonable though sometimes you do wonder. There is an air of dishevelment though since the floor plan was reorganized about 2 years ago, things are easier to browse. It's a 45 minute trip for me, but I enjoy the hunt here. read more

I remember the first time I went into this store years ago... they had some wonderfully cheap prices on books and furniture. The store was fairly clean and my entire family had a great time searching through the bargains. We bought a lot that day, and re-visited them several times. Fast forward a few years, and there's almost nothing worth praising. Most of the employees couldn't care less, the shelves are an inexcusable mess, everything is insanely overpriced, and the store is disturbingly FILTHY. I came across a half-eaten bag of potato chips buried amongst the crafting supplies- lovely! As for the pricing- WOW. There's no logical explanation for the varied and nonsensical labeling in this shop. I especially enjoyed finding a cheap, rubber cord wrap for headphones that was marked as being $1.75, when the back of the packaging clearly stated the full retail price of just $1.00. It's almost funny to imagine that these swindlers can't even be bothered to cover up the original price tag with another sticker. I do hope they're donating a lot to whatever charity they support, because they certainly aren't spending it on the store's employees or upkeep! It's a shame to see such a once-great store go downhill, and I only hope one day someone else- with a lot more sense- takes over running it. read more

Wow are you kidding me? Stopped in there to look for items to complete my Halloween costume and also because it is fun to browse resale shops. I had to take a double take at some of the things that I looked at because I thought the prices could not have been marked right. I actually saw women's sweaters, used, nothing special about them marked as high as $24. I started looking at other items to see what they were priced at. Could not believe it. Saw a pot, scraped on the bottom, used a lot and it was marked close to $10. I even asked a person who worked there and she confirmed the price. This store receives their merchandise by donations. When I asked if the proceeds from this store went to a charitable organization I was basically given a blank stare. I then asked if the store was self owned or part of a charitable organization and I was told it was self owned. Well, now that explains a lot. If you self own and keep the prices lower to accommodate many in the area that could use a break then that is not a bad thing. Consider it giving back to the COMMUNITY. To jack up the prices especially to people that really need a break is solely for the reason of padding your own pockets. I believe that in time even the folks that need the most help will say to themselves, hey, I can buy this sweater brand new at Wal-Mart for less than what greed is selling it for. read more

I would elect to vote zero stars for this dumphole. I'm certainly not surprised at the bad comments about this so called,"thrift' store. I will cosign on all that is noted here. This dump is over priced and ridiculous! This place has the WORSE, I mean worse customer service ever! Among other things wrong with this dump, they have the NERVE to have a policy that states women can't come into their stores with large purses and diaper bags or the purses or bags will be searched. Yes, you heard right, women with large purses and diaper bags will be 'randomly" searched at the whim of one of the hags at the registers. I've patronized this store for years and I carry my big leather bag at every store, even this dump and I've never had it searched by them nor anyone else for that matter. They will never search my bag and they can keep their policy and shove it up the manger(S) butt. The reason for writing this review is to expose this store and their ignorant policy. My friend who was subjected to this foolishness was told by one of the HAGS that works at this dump that the reason her purse was needing to be searched was based upon some idiotic backward policy written poorly with a black marker that is taped on the walls at the entrance and registers, stating that large purses and diaper bags wil be searched or you will be asked to leave.(Are you kidding me!!?!?!?) Not only was my best friend rudely approached by the thrift store hag but another lady that I know was subjected to the same offense. Is this an epidemic with these idiots? My best friend was asked for her purse to be searched mind you, at the register by the same hag who rang up her items! My friend proceeds to ask why her purse was needing to be searched and the hag at the register stated," because you have a large purse." A large purse??!?!? Not that I saw you stuff junk from the store down your purse, or we saw you on security tape stuffing crap in your purse..but, " a large PURSE! " I've never heard such stupidity in all my shopping days. I'm mean what kind of crap is that!? That's how these mooks treat their customer's, I hate to see how the true thief is treated. My friend declined stating, "are you kidding me, I gave you no reason to do so, I paid for all my items and you're not searching my purse." My friend then proceeds to leave the store and the buzzer at the door suspiciously goes off. How convenient! The manager at this point is on the scene and follows my friend outside and asks to search her purse now the reason being because, "the buzzer went off." ( I saw one of the workers standing by the door, I know it was pushed for the button to go off.) Can't prove their B.S but it's highly suspicious that it went off because there was nothing in her purse to warrant it to go off. Also, she was asked to have her purse searched before she even reached the door. All Nonsense! My friend at this point declines for this mutton head manger to look through her purse and the manager states very arrogantly and ignorantly that she will just, " ban" my friend from ever shopping in the store and then if she does come in they will," call the cops and state she is trespassing." Isn't that the best customer service you've ever heard? These douch bags should get a medal for outstanding customer service. Mind you at this point my friend never went to her car the entire time while this dialog is taking place between she and the manager. The manager then tells her to just turn around and walk back through the door with her purse and then she wont search it. My friend walks back through the door and you guessed it, the alarm did NOT go off. Now, if she really had something in her purse that she didn't pay for the alarm would of went off the 2nd time she walked through it. Apparently, this place is looking to find their asses in legal trouble with the nonsense they are playing. I'm almost certain that one of the workers who was at the door at the time, pushed a button of some sort so that the door alarm went off. All of it was highly fishy and utterly ridiculous. It's quiet obvious they don't have a clue what good customer service is nor or they interested in keeping customers. I along with the two other ladies that I know will never, ever patronize this dusty, overpriced dump again. There are certainly plenty of stores to patronize, with decent workers, and better prices in the surrounding cities. Anytime, you have repeatedly, for years buckets and plastic containers sitting everywhere to catch rain fall from a raggedy store roof with police tape draped all over, you're not interested in providing good customer service nor are you interested in retaining customers. These losers are only interested in the money from those customers with SMALL purses and wallets. Was SOOOOO excited to stop in here to for dinner plates...I need 300! I was absolutely shocked at how overpriced everything was! This place is HUGE and I have no idea how they turn over items with prices so high! Also, all of the dishware was marked with one of those black china markers in the worse writing ever that you cannot even tell how much it is! I hate when resale shops are priced too high...they are never going to get that crap off their shelves if they don't price it accordingly! Men's clothing is ridiculously overpriced. Haven't checked women's but I'm sure it's the same. The sign outside says Thrift Store but their pricing is more like Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Found a shirt there today new with tags from TJ MAXX that was reduced to $18 on the TJM price tag and this insane "thrift store" had it tagged for $24. Even worse is they double staple their price labels right onto the shirt. Who does this? Checked out the board games too. Each box was sealed up with so much packing tape you'd think there was gold inside. Forget about checking if a game is complete and worth buying. This place needs new owners and/or managers.
