I was downsizing and donated a whole bunch of stuff to them. I really like the work they do, but I was sort of put off by the fact that I had to hire my own movers to take the stuff to the warehouse. It made it expensive for me to support them. This is FWIW. I'm not sure whether I would've been similarly charged by other charitable organizations. That said, they were easy to communicate with came and they said they would and did a great job of getting everything out of my condo. read more

Their donation standards are absurd. I tried to donate a box spring and mattress my own kid lived on for years. They seriously inspected it as if putting it under a microscope. The fact they deemed this unacceptable tells me they've never been poor and have no concept what undignified means. I'll be going elsewhere to be making donations in the future. read more

What a great community resource for those looking to give and receive. And a perfect alternative to Goodwill if you are looking to donate or purchase used housewares and furniture. Their mission is "to help vulnerable populations improve the quality of their lives and become self-sufficient by providing them with basic household furnishings." We were in the process of replacing mattresses in our home and I really didn't want the old ones to end up in a landfill since they were still in good condition. So I was really pleased to find this local non-profit that will take furniture and mattresses and provide them to families in need in my area. Since we were donating twin beds, and that is exactly what they are looking for, it was a perfect match. Their website is excellent and has a very concise list of household items they will and won't accept (https://www.communitywarehouse.org/donate-goods). They do expect items to be in good condition. Then you have the option of bringing your donation to them or they will send out a van to your home for a $30 charge. In our case, since we were donating beds, frames, dressers, tables, etc. we chose to scheduled a pick-up. The guys arrived as scheduled and were personable and managed to fit all of our items into their little truck. As a non-profit, they will issue a donation receipt for your goods. At the facility in Tualatin, there is an Estate Store open every day from 10:00a - 4:00p. Profits from the store help fund the operational expenses so it is a great way to keep on giving. This the MLK CW... I was with my friend th today for help wit household and furniture. Okay she picked out what she wanted, but was told no because they keep the NICE STUFF to sell in store. What that mean to me is since you or low income, you will take what ever. For one you don't know why and how I got to needing help. She was looking down at my friend and didn't care what she said. I'm going to have to report this, for one it says Community Warehouse, from donating. In the store only a few people can afford it. Anyways BBB and United Way just recieved my email. I am appalled at how my mother-in-law was treated by a man who works here. My MIL brought Oregon centennial plates up from California to donate here. On the drive, she was talking about what amazing service Community Warehouse does and all these neat things about it. At the time, she couldn't remember the name. She just referred to it as "a thrift shop near your old neighborhood (Tualatin) by a pond." Thus, we didn't think to look it up until we got off the freeway exit only to find on Yelp! that they close at 4pm. My husband sped up and kid you not, we made it into the parking lot right at 3:59pm, turning 4:00pm. They were just turning off the lights and shutting the door. If I had known the name of the place, I would've looked ahead and budget enough time to get there before closing. We had barreled through rush hour traffic from downtown Portland to get here. We live in Hillsboro so it's not a convenient location for us. A man walks out of the door at 4:00pm and my MIL told him she just needed to drop her donations off and he said, "Sorry, we're closed." She asked if he could just take it and bring it inside real quick and he reiterated that they were close. My MIL begged him to take it because she had drove a long way from California to bring them up. Again, he refused. Keep in mind, we are two feet away from the entrance. My MIL wouldn't take no for an answer because she was desperate and finally after some more back and forth, the man took the donation and gave it to a lady who was right inside the store. She smiled and took it. In the time that he spent arguing with my MIL about them already being closed, he could've spent less time grabbing the dang bag and bringing it inside. I understand they were closed but we got there right at 4pm and it would've taken him literally 5 seconds to just grab it and drop it inside. She didn't even need a receipt for these Oregon centennial plates that I'm sure many would consider really cool vintage items. Even after how my MIL was treated, she thanked the guy multiple times as we departed for being willing to take the donation. What the heck?! Terrible customer service, especially since my MIL was singing praises about this place. I'm giving two stars instead one because the mission of this place is truly great and the lady inside the store had a smile on her face and willing to take the bag (so the guy didn't even have to deal with it!). I am a frequent donator and would've considered donating to this place based on my MIL's recommendation, but now I certainly will not be bringing my things here. I'm sticking with Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) who picks up AT our doorstep no questions asked. No excuses it about it "being policy". Leniency and courtesy could've definitely been given to a lady who clearly looked desperate to GIVE literally SECONDS after the door closed. It's called being a kind fellow human being who exercises compassion and discretion! read more

I came in with my Mom, they have been here about a year and she drops in regularly. The front showroom had a large assortment of furniture in good condition ( several sets of table & chairs, nightstands, sideboards, dressers, etc). There was also a lot of home decor and complete sets of china. Many items were antiques and in surprisingly good condition. Mom picked up some items for the beach house. Since it was my first time in and my Mom was well acquainted with Mary Ellen, who was manning the cash register I was given a full tour. Here is the rundown, they are a non-profit, there are two locations, they sell 3-5% of what is donated. The rest goes to families in need, between the two stores they help out about 70 families a week by completely furnishing their homes. It is amazing that there is such a huge need that they are doing their best to meet. If they have it they will give beds with frames, sofas, tables & chairs, desks, kitchen supplies and even medical supplies like wheelchairs. I would assume there is some sort of screening process and families come in by appointment, if you or someone you know needs significant help (they specified low income, refugees, survivors of domestic violence) give them a call to find out how to get connected. Unlike Goodwill they do accept mattresses, bedding and pillows. All of this goes on behind the scenes from the main store, it is in a private area in the very back that is not visible from the main retail space. I was so impressed by the folks here, I went online and read their financials and all about the NPO, the volume that they give is staggering. In 2012 I am excited to take a truckload in the weekend and I encourage you to do the same. It is amazing to see such need being met in our community. I am not sure how that end of it works, if your house caught on fire and you needed furniture to replace what was burnt I guess they have a program for people in need!?!? Anyhow...this review is for the retail store or estate store attached to the donation center. 3.5/5 Proceeds from the store support the charity. They have a lot of couches, chairs, artwork, and glassware. Nothing really stuck out as far as items I had to have. I look mainly for smalls. Prices are above average for a thrifty type store so watch their webpages for sales. You can do well if you go on a sale day. The selection here was not my cup of tea but that doesn't mean it can't be your cup of tea. Kudos to them for their charitable work. read more

Defiantly stop by when you are at Bridgeport or other suburban shopping. The Estate Store has treasures people have given to this great charity. They sell high end donated furniture , decor and housewares that raises money so the charity to buy practical items their clients need such as linens, etc. The store is nicely laid out, and the items are in great shape. You never know what they are going to get , so it's worth stopping by. I've seen some brand new items that still have store tags on them. There is always a big variety, some collectibles and even seasonal decorations and serving pieces. It's not bargain basement prices- but the prices are terrific compared to most consignment stores- and the quality is high. Third Thursday of the items all 20% off. read more

Please ask the question, "do you have pets" before you schedule an appointment. We have a dog and community warehouse would not take our couch. The couch had been cleaned and vacummed but...we have a dog, so they wouldn't take it. It was a waste of Communcity Warehouse resources (they drove to my house) and my time. read more

This store is hit or miss. I am a fan because I bought a very unique lotus vase here for $9 that was originally $50 new. I also bought a hand pressed flower necklace here for $9 which had tags on it for originally $48. I got the necklace on a sale day though and normally it was $18. Some finds and mega deals......other things are marked high for being used. It is good that it is here and I usually make an effort to stop in if they are open during the pumpkin Regatta or crawfish Festival by the lake. read more

One of my favorite places to hunt for great treasures when we're in the Portland area. I love this place. I've found great smalls, garden sculpture, quality patio furniture, art, etc -- all in great condition and at great prices. They do wonderful things for their community and run one of the best 'thrift' stores I've ever been to. They're also friendly and very helpful. Can't think of a single bad thing to say about them except that I don't live close enough to go there weekly. read more

I was down visiting my son from the Seattle area and while he was sleeping in I decided to walk over and take a look at this store, never intending to spend $750.00! That morning they had put out two matching over sized leather Lazy Boy recliners and they were so nice I just couldn't resist both to replace our older ones. Had I found them in Seattle, I would have paid double the price. They do have a $50.00 delivery fee, but since they were going back to Seattle I managed to fit them both in my Subaru Forrester. They had some other beautiful furniture and I was told a man recently donated about $70,000 worth of furniture and they have 2 storage rooms full of it. Oh, if only I lived closer. It was also nice not paying any sales tax. Now my son is aware of the store and will periodically drop in and the next time I visit him, I'll certainly go by. What a great gem and it's non-profit; that's always nice. read more
