Our business has been collecting items for them for 6 years now and we just love supporting this local non-profit that has been making such a huge and important impact to our community. The team makes it incredibly easy to volunteer, from scheduling, to instructions, to supplies. You pick an available date that works for you, they send a registration link for you to get a group together, they send the suggested recipe with an ingredients list. You get the groceries in advance and arrive between 3:45-4pm (parking in the garage for which they validate). You have two hours to cook dinner using their kitchen, serve dinner at 6 and are invited to eat it yourself, and package leftovers by 6:45. Families are always grateful for the meal and it's a good cause. Staff goes above and beyond to be welcoming, make sure you have everything you need, and embody the mission of the organization. They're doing great work and providing such a valuable service. It's an honor to be able to volunteer in this way and it's a wonderful opportunity that I personally recommend for anyone looking for a one-off/non-regular volunteer opportunity for a small group.

They seem intensely stressed and have terrible people skills. I work in healthcare and have restaurant experience, so I understand the hustle but the level of rude is so unnecessary. One of my shifts, I witnessed a staff member aggressively tell a resident to work faster plating food. He had stepped away for a moment to grab some more apple sauce. It was near the end of service and one of the servers told us people were about done so he made the decision to step away. The staff member was so rude and belittling right in front of everyone. Totally power trip. It was really uncomfortable. Another shift, I passed drinks. Stacey was running bevs and she was so aggressive. She kept shoving full pitchers at me and snagging my not-even-empty ones. One time she shoved it so hard while I was pouring a drink that I spilled water on one of the diners eating breakfast. Afterwards they invite you to have a "family meal" but they completely ignore you if you're new. It's a bad vibe. I'm in the process of obtaining my bachelors in nursing and I'm close to graduation. I am interested in community health and psych. I was hoping to volunteer on a weekly basis to gain perspective on this population who are often discriminated, marginalized, and vulnerable. McDonald's was a proud volunteer today, helping to package food items. Today, we sorted and repacked pancake mix to go out to various organizations. You also have to label the items with nutritional information as well as a cooking label. What's good is that anyone can volunteer to share your time by working with them. Only requirement is that you're 16 years of age with an adult or 18 years or older. So come by yourself as Devon did or come as a group. It is a great way to give back to the community. They also give tours so you can truly understand the impact hunger has on the community, the state. I truly was blessed by this event.
