Always great to find restaurants in the Detroit area that are vegan friendly. I was so excited when my friend told me that a place near her house had lots of vegan pizza options. My friend is not vegan but we shared a pizza and it was phenomenal. She said it was even better than regular pizza. The dough was amazing and the cheese had a great texture to it. The service was through the roof, the manager consistently checked on us and asked about our lives and you could tell that he genuinely cared. That kind of service is so appreciated and memorable, and it's clear why this restaurant has such a strong customer base both their food and service are phenomenal. read more

wanted to give comos a try after having some via a friend last year, the price was always a deterrent but i decided to go for it today. i was craving a great spaghetti and meatballs and although it looked gorgeous, i was left disappointed.. i'm not sure the inspiration but it tastes like there might be lemon added to this recipe?? there was also what i would describe as an excessive amount of herbs ( basil i presume but the flavor of this was not what i expected at all, maybe spinach??) neither the herbs or onion were listed as part of this dish on the menu. i tried to doll it up at home with parmesan and additional marinara from the fridge but i really couldnt get past a couple bites. the meatballs were really beefy without a lot of italian flavor and kind of on the firm side. ...while i enjoyed my cordon bleu pizza- i also found myself adding mustard because it didnt taste quite right. i'm sure this might ruffle some feathers but for these outrageous price points (20$+ for spaghetti) these reciples really need dialed in. i wouldnt normally write a review like this, but it's pretty hard to make (23$!) spaghetti and meatballs taste bad. glad i tried it i guess, but feeling ripped off and unsatisfied. i'll stick with loui's. i shouldn't have to "doll up" a meal i paid 45$ for......... ..really, is there lemon in this? what am i tasting? did someone lose the red wine ? read more

The place has gotten a bit of a face lift and their patio is always the place to be on warm summer nights. I've tried pretty much all their pizzas and you can't go wrong with any of them! Top 5 favorite pizza place for sure! You have options like spicy honey, garlic, loads of peppery arugula, the list goes on! I haven't been to Como's in years. However, I was having a girls night out with my friends in the area and we got hungry. Although it was a light rain the outdoor seating was covered and heated and was the perfect spot. We ordered the antipasto salad, LGBT and bbq chicken pizzas. The salad came out first and the bowl is big enough for 2 people to share. There was a mixup in our order and instead of the LGBT the chef made a different pizza. The manager brought it to our table, apologized and let us keep the incorrect pizza at no charge. All of the food was delicious. The drinks were ok. They have a great amount of liquor but the flavors were just a bit off. I love that they are now connected to the Traverse city whisky bar and will definitely be back. read more

After scanning the menu, we decided on the Joshua J. We chose this because we really like the spicy pep pep at Pop+Offworld. Was really pleased with this za. I really liked the deep dish style. Very crispy and filling. Pep, Jalapeños, and honey. An elite combination. The pepperonis even took the shape of little mini bowls (love when that happens). Would definitely recommend. read more

This was our first time back to Comos since remodel and new owners. Pizza and salad were ok, drinks were decent but those ridiculous booths were absolutely terrible! They look comfortable until you try to sit down. The seat is hard and way too deep - my feet couldn't touch the floor! Plus those lovely tufted backs are too low to be functional. My only experience here is with the bartender who was great. I like the outdoor patio they have. I sat at the bar and it had heat lamps that helped because it was freezing outside. Went here for pride week. The drinks were good and the pizza was to die for!! Hands down one of the best pizzas I've had yet. It was so busy that the pizza took over 45 minutes to begin cooking, which I was understanding about. Plus I was with a group so I wasn't worried about doing whatever else until then. The LBGT square pizza was delicious! The parking isn't the best but you don't need a close spot when you're in ferndale and there's tons of places to go to. Hits: The guac, spaghetti squash lasagna, Roni pizza, Shipwrecked cocktail, and the staff and their hospitality were all phenomenal! Misses: The dressing on the antipasto salad was weird and it had too many garbanzo beans compared to other toppings. I've heard so much about this place since moving to the area. Gave it a try tonight and the pizza and drinks were fantastic. The roni pizza was good and jessys girl was amazing. Slice of life cocktail was also wonderful. Service was definitely sub par. They also use paper plates and plastic cups. I'm assuming because they are short staffed, but it did feel like it cheapened the experience a bit. The patio area is nice, big, and loud. Will definitely get pizza from here again. If this place had more staff and better trained staff (especially at the front of house) it would be a 10/10 from me. read more

The new COMO's accelerates my evolution into the crotchety woman I am certain to become. Yes the pizza is good -- the "OPA" is fire, as the kids say. But there's so much that annoyed me about the entire experience here. First, no kids menu. That means ordering a whole'nother pricey pizza for my picky 4yo or, in my case, ordering the $11 chicken fingers that did not even come with fries. The server actually had the nerve to ask us if we wanted to add fries FOR SIX DOLLARS. Don't even get me started on the mediocrity of said chicken fingers. They weren't bad but certainly nothing special, and the ranch was watery. Also, the tables on the patio are too small. And they are round, so it's awkward to put a few together. Despite all this, I will certainly order the OPA again, but as carry out ... or perhaps when a group of my childless friends want to drag my crotchety self out for "the atmosphere" or whatever. read more

I went in closet to when it opened. The set up inside is really weird with the host stand being on the opposite wall of the front door. It was pretty packed with all different size tables. Como's is a delicious authentic Detroit style pizza restaurant in the heart of downtown Ferndale. I have been here several times and have never been disappointed! The ambiance is very warm and inviting and staff are very friendly and attentive. The outdoor seating and bar are also really lovely in the warmer weather! I've tried several different salads and pizzas and have a hard time picking a favorite! That being said, some of my favorites have been the Baller and OPA pizzas. The dough is delicious, with the perfect crunch and isn't too heavy. I always recommend this spot, and especially like bringing friends and family visiting from out of town! read more

When I dream about pizza, it's Como's Detroit style pizza I'm dreaming about. In my view, it's the gold standard for Detroit style. The sauce is wonderful, the dough nearly perfect, and that crunchy cheesy burnt edge is divine!! Wow. I'm drooling thinking about that now. I have no idea what else they serve here and don't care. It's their pizza. It's all about their pizza. It might be true that people come here for something other than their pizza but I don't understand why. Ridiculous. While the pizza is a clear 5+ stars, the atmosphere (inside) is a little lackluster and the draft beer selection is disappointing. The outside patio is huge and a delight when weather permitting. The result is 4 star. So if you're looking for the full 5 star experience, this may not be it. But if you're looking for the best pizza in Detroit, this is your place. It sure is mine!! read more

I cannot express how happy I was when I opened my COMOS pizza box and saw the most beautiful gluten free pizza ever. It's not super thin or weirdly dense. It's this perfect fluffy crust that makes you wonder if it's correct. They made sure to make it fully aware that it was the gluten free one. This is now my new favorite place to get pizza. I have heard that they have a dedicated fryers for wings and fries, making them gluten free but haven't confirmed and will update once I do. I have celiac disease and very sensitive to gluten and I felt great after eating here and felt very safe! read more

So excited this place has reopened under new ownership! It's prime location with the best patio seating in the area, and now you can finally eat here without worrying about getting ill lol. The drinks were so good! I especially loved the ghostbuster- a margarita with habanero jelly ... the bartender was awesome and made it less spicy and added sugar on the rim for me - SOOOO GOOD! Pizza was fire .... I built my own small and was stuffed after two pieces, very filling. The small is 4 pieces and the large is basically 2 smalls (so you get all corner pieces - yay) Either the GM or one of the owners (not sure) stopped by and talked to our table and told us a little about the renovation and upcoming events for the patio/music/etc. I really liked that touch - as a newly opened business it made me excited to come back! Service at the bar was top notch - I forgot the bartenders name but she was fantastic (tiny girl working at the service bar end on Wednesday 5/15). Service at our table was fine too - until the server went to split the checks and got super flustered, it ended up taking forever for us to cash out... but they just opened so we can let that slide! Comos is a pizzeria with an impressive beer selection. Located in the heart of 9 mile and woodward its location is good. The bulk of the menu consists of mostly Italian pizzas baked fresh, with some unique additions but nothing to unconventional. It's a family style place that has a bit of upscale to it. We ordered arugala and pineapple and cheese. Both were made promptly. Service was great with our waiter being diligent. Arugula pizza was crunchy and soft a good place for a pizza to be with toppings that were fresh. Pineapple pizza was savory with bbq sauce. Overall a good experience. I've been here twice since they renovated, so I have never tried the "old" COMO. It's a good place to share some drinks and Detroit style pizza with friends. The atmosphere of their outside area is great, first come first serve and they have music playing. I've gotten the Bibb and Beet salad here to share and lots of pizzas- the Wimp, Roni, Lucy Jean and Granny. For the salad, got a lot of the Bibb portion, not enough of the beets and other components (don't think we even got a sliver of a date). Still a very good salad though! The pizzas, honestly, you can't go wrong. A small comes in four large slices. The Wimp and Roni are my fave. The wimp has lots of peppers but the hot honey balances the spice. Hot honey- for sure try a pizza that has it! The pepperonis in the Roni are thick but has a good char. Overall, would definitely go here again and maybe try their other items! read more

Wanted to try this place for a while despite not liking other Peas and Carrots restaurants like Social Kitchen and Mex. We finally went and boy are we glad we did. Sat outside on a HOT Saturday afternoon. La La, our waitress, was awesome and very friendly. A guy playing the guitar out there was way too loud, but that was our only complaint. Detroit style pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms was awesome!! Buddy's by us in Birmingham is awful, but this gave my favorite Louie's a run for the money....actually, it was better!! Crispy crust, tasty thick pepperoni, and fresh mushrooms with a tangy flavorful sauce. Yum!! My wife had the kale salad with salmon. She loved it, and I tried some of hers and it was great.
