    Rasta pasta

I recently dined at La Dolce Vita in Detroit. The ambiance was beautiful, elegant, and made for a nice dining atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food and customer service didn't live up to the setting. I ordered the Rasta Pasta with chicken and steak. The steak was cooked perfectly--tender, flavorful, and easily the best part of the meal. However, the pasta was covered in a significant amount of oil, with pools of oil collecting around the plate (see photos). When I mentioned it to our server, she explained that "when the pasta has been sitting, the oil separates from the sauce." While I appreciated the explanation, it wasn't what I expected from a freshly prepared meal. The biggest disappointment was the chicken. It had a strange smell and an unpleasant taste that made it inedible. When I informed our server, instead of taking the plates back to the kitchen to fix the issue, she asked my guest and me to remove the chicken from our own plates so it could be replaced. I asked if the kitchen could do that instead, but she said they couldn't. After we removed the chicken ourselves, the replacement steak was brought out on one plate for both of us. When I asked if it could be plated separately, the server simply picked up the plate and scraped the steak onto each of our plates at the table. That was surprising and not the level of service I expected from a restaurant of this caliber. The atmosphere is lovely, and the steak was excellent, but the excessive oil, the poor quality of the chicken, and the way our concerns were handled overshadowed the experience. I hope management addresses both the kitchen's quality control and the customer service, because the restaurant has the potential to be much better.

We used to live in Palmer Woods ( across from the restaurant), but have ever only done "take-aways" Sun, we were a party of 6 saying goodbye to 1 couple. We wanted Special and we were not disappointed. It started with friendly parking attendants. You pass an Outdoor seating area that reminded me of an area in Rome. We were seated and Welcomed. The encounter with any team member was pleasant. The pianist had been playing since 10AM, she left shortly after the start of our 4PM reservation. Yet what we heard was pleasant and she stopped and visited with us. The food, started with a great bread service and the options of still and "gassed " water for the table. Our Waitress was friendly and NOT overwhelmed by 1 member of our party who has an extreme FEAR of seafood. She assured him of 0 cross-contamination. She removed from her off menu offerings anything related to to sea. Oh, the staff reduced the music that allowed pleasant conversation. You want to know about the food.... Fantastic, tender, favorable. Only 2 of us had the same thing. The table was relieved of used utensils immediately. We were all too stuffed to eat our desserts, Shuana, helped us realize we would be sad if we didn't try the cheesecake. My goodness, yes once our EUROPEAN dinner was digested, we had our cheesecake a MUST Make Your reservation. Next time I go I will have the Calamari...can't wait

Where to start...this place wants to be 5 star, but it's got a long way to go. I don't think I've ever left a restaurant feeling scammed until dining here for the first time for my birthday. I have no issue spending money for great meals. I do have an issue spending on fake dinner specials. The waitress explained the specials, which aren't listed. One special was Royal Lobster, which was described as a 14oz lobster stuffed with shrimp and crab, over a seafood risotto with a side of green beans. Another was halibut over risotto with limoncello sauce. We got the halibut and the Royal Lobster. The "Royal Lobster" came out as anything but Royal. We were served an approximate 7oz lobster, not stuffed with a single thing, and overcooked. If you like sawing lobster with a steak knife, this is ideal. It was tough and lost its life for nothing. Instead of green beans, there was a side of unseasoned spinach plopped down as an afterthought. We brought all this to the waitresses attention prior to the bill, and she apologized and said they'd give a discount. We get the bill, and the sad, falsely advertised Royal Lobster was an astonishing $150 (we hadn't asked the price and they are not listed). They took $35 off. It was insulting. The lobster was not eatable, it was not "stuffed" as described, it was tiny and no where near "14oz", and only a couple bites were consumed. The seafood risotto was decent, but majority left uneaten. It was definitely batch made and had been sitting in a pot getting watery and overcooked- not made to order, which you'd expect for such a price. The halibut was good, not great, though the sauce was very good. It came on a bed of steamed white rice, not risotto, which seems minor in comparison to the false advertisement of the lobster. The price for the fish was $75. Again, for such a steep price, I expected "great", as well as the advertised risotto. We spoke to a manager who said he cannot make any further adjustments to the bill without the owner, who was not in. We paid and he took our information and said the owner would call us the next day. I called and spoke with the owner. He continuously lied, saying that almost all the food was eaten and he saw the plate after in the kitchen. When I asked why he didn't come to speak with us if he was there, he said he saw a picture of it. Two things to point out - the plate was never taken to the back, and the staff we spoke to never took a picture. The owner was blatantly lying. Additionally, the majority of the lobster plate was uneaten. I had no issue paying for the halibut, the drinks, for the tip. (The waitress was very nice). My issue was the lobster that was falsely advertised and came out extremely overcooked and half the size of what they told us, yet still wanting to charge $150 for. Again, I felt scammed. Eventually, after going up in person and showing the pics of the lobster, the owner refunded the money for the fake Royal Lobster special. It is a lot of go though to patronize a restaurant and we will not return and I caution those I know about going. Integrity is non existent here. Lastly, the parking lot is valet only. It's $10 to watch them move your car to a spot in a near empty lot 15 feet from where you are standing. Again, I think this is for the show of trying to appear upscale. With so many great and honest restaurants in the area, I see no reason to ever go back.

We recently went back for a friend's birthday. As always the atmosphere in the food is delicious but I wanted to update my review on the service that we received. In the past I was a little turned off by some of the servers here. Last night was some of the best service our table has had in a while. Seven people, and Devon S. Handle does like a pro, knowing all of the specials, knowing his menu, keeping eye contact, answering questions and just giving outstanding service. He even suggested that we come back sometime for Sunday brunch, and he made it sound so delicious that we just might in the future. I don't normally write these reviews for service it's usually for the food but I just have to say that the team, and I say the team because he had a gentleman working with him also that was kind and efficient and engaging. Engaging servers are so few and far between and these two went above and beyond. We will be back, I have to say that this was kind of a test for our group whether or not we would be coming back. Kudos to whoever hired these two. It made my friends 55th birthday a memorable one.

Their food is so expensive here and it's very mediocre. Their menu is not that big and not very kid friendly. Service was great and this place is cute and has an outdoor patio for cute pics.

Our waitress Paige was AMAZING!!!! She made the experience here awesome and I would highly recommend her! She even made good suggestions (like avoiding the chicken Parmesan). That being said the food was sub par for the prices. It was good but not stellar and nothing to make me go back again. The bread was cold and somewhat bitter the olive oil they use for the bread dip is not good. The gnocchi had a really good sauce and I was glad I got chicken with it. The gnocchi itself wasn't bad but I didn't care for the texture it wasn't as creamy as ones I've had in the past. The portion was so small!! The other dish was a special and we subtracted the mushrooms. The tenderloin was tender but had a gamey taste to the finish of it. Pasta was cooked well and sauce was decent. The lights outside were pretty for Christmas and they have a particular ambiance inside that was cute. Bathrooms were gross. Old soap dried to the sink, toilet seats heavily damaged and stained and scratched. Broken tiles, dirty looking stall doors. There is no changing table for a little ones. Since I had never been to this place before and went to the bathroom before anything else this was my first impression.

This restaurant has been a favorite. However, my recent dining experiences have left me feeling like their service has taken a nose dive. The last two times I dined there, (yesterday and 3 weeks ago) have left me frustrated. The servers no longer serve coffee and tea "with"saucers. There was no butter for the English muffin. When we requested butter, we were told that there was only melted butter. Bread is no longer provided without specifically requesting it. Prosecco is on "tap" now, (like beer) and NOT bottled. Although sadly, I will miss the lobster omelette, it is time to find a new brunch spot.

The service was very good. Friendly attentive service. Looks like they had a remodel inside. Nice remodel to a more modern look. The ambience the old looked more romantic. The steak tops appetizer was very very good. The chicken parm was equally as good. The chicken piccata was way too salty, had zero sauce and contained lots of mushrooms, not a very good piccata. Drinks were decent. Overall probably would not go back as the prices were way too much for what you get.

I'd heard alot about this authentic Italian restaurant before the new owners took over in 2023 and was anxious to visit. We went for my birthday lunch and was greeted by Rico, our server. He explained the specials in such detail that I didn't have to look at the menu. Lobster pasta is what we ordered as Rico explained it is a shareable size. We were served warm bread and olive oil. I got a martini that was delicious. We chose escargot as the appetizer and it was "magnifico"! The owner was nearby and he and my friend held a very intense discussion on his fairly new ownership of the establishment. Everything is new including renovations and chefs that cook meals to order from scratch! The lobster was definitely shareable with lots of lobster meat and two large prawn on top. It was so creamy and meaty and absolutely divine! We ended with a cannoli that was also very rich and delightful. I can't wait to return in the summer to dine in the garden area.

Imagine being excited to try La Dolce Vita... only to walk into an empty restaurant, be greeted with "Hello, we have a dress code," and then watch the hostess go get management "approval" to see if we could stay--before they even asked about our reservation. We are always respectful of a dress code--we understand and follow it. But if this was truly an issue, I don't understand why a manager didn't come and speak to us directly. Instead, it seemed like the hostess was given the responsibility to tell us, which is unfair to her and unprofessional for management. Now granted, they did say we could stay. But to then tell us we couldn't post pictures in their restaurant or tag their business--as if we were somehow a disrespect to their dress code--was completely insane. It turns out they were talking about both me and my Friend , she had maybe an inch of stomach showing and was asked to pull her skirt up (not a problem). My shirt was completely covered, but the side had shifted and maybe a centimeter of skin was showing--something I could've fixed in seconds. Later, we checked their social media and saw women with full midriffs and thigh-high splits proudly featured. Meanwhile, I also saw guests in gym shoes, cargo shorts, and plain t-shirts. Yet somehow, we were the ones singled out. The Boozy Broads try different restaurants every month, showing up classy, fun, and ready to support local spots. La Dolce Vita? This was our first and last visit. Disappointing is an understatement.

I had an awesome experience at this restaurant. First off, upon entering, you walk into a garden (which gives you a feeling of enchantment). There are several dining tables as you walk into the building. Once you're inside, the waiter comes with a warm but professional greeting and seats you. As I'm looking at the restaurant decor, I see chandeliers, shiny gold silverware, cloth napkins not a speck of dust anywhere. The ambiance is mellow with instrumental jazz music playing in the background. The food was delicious. The salmon bites came out and shrimp came out hot. The salmon bites were so tender and well seasoned. The shrimp was flavorful too. Both were accompanied by a remoulade dipping sauce (which I really like). I asked for extra sauce. The chicken Marsala and chicken piccata were spoon tender. I didn't even need a fork and knife. Both were so good. The mashed potatoes were silky and smooth. You could definitely taste the salt and butter (which was spot on). The green beans were also seasoned right. The carrot cake was good, but I'm not I'll pay $14 for it again. I will try the creme brûlée cheese cake next time, though.

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.

My uncle suggested Roman Village, and I'm so glad he did. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we were impressed by both the incredible hospitality and the amazing food. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and the quality exceeded our expectations. If you're in the Detroit area, I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. Some of the Romaine lettuce in both salads were brown. The croutons should have been separate, they were soggy after an hour or so. The base of the chafing dishes had quite a bit of water at the bottom and made the lettuce quite wilted quickly. The better part is the food was able to be picked up earlier than most places.
