Well I gave it an honest shot.I was part of a large group that came in but not as a private party, just a lot of tables. They tried, I know they did but I just don't feel like our experience was very successful. Right off the bat there were so many fruit flies where we were sitting that it was going to make the six of us at the front section to the left of the door insane. There are a lot of live plants along the windows and along the corner where I was sitting. I understand that restaurants can get flies or fruit flies and be completely clean but it was so disturbing that in almost immediately made you lose your appetite. We had two other sections of tables that said that they didn't see any and all or maybe one during the whole three and a half hours we were there, so I'm blaming it on the plants. I understand you want to have a cool look but you've got to get rid of them. Anyone that's ever had a house plant knows if you keep in your kitchen it's probably not a good idea. It really put a damper on the evening immediately for me though. Moving on. We had several waiters and waitresses during the night come out and tend to us and that was fine. They were all very nice some were more attentive than others. I call that normal service. Our group as a quote appetizer had three different pizzas brought out and spread across are tables and those came out right away and were very fresh. Our table had the barbecue chicken pizza and I wasn't a fan of the chicken that was on the pizza, but after I picked it off the rest was good. Heard lots of good reviews about one that had pepperoni mushroom and onion also. So that, was solid. The problem then came that we all got to order anything we wanted if you didn't want to just have the pizza. There were two items on the menu that they said that they don't carry anymore and one of them was chips and guac. So a lot of us were disappointed by that. I think that she said the roasted cauliflower with the other but I can't remember. But seeing that they haven't been open that long if they had taken that off the menu recently even though the menus were printed, maybe they could have crossed that off . I'd say about 20 of us still got our own entrees, and although we ordered at the same time our food came out in very small groups very sparsely. I myself ordered the arugula and beet salad that had goat cheese. It was amazing but by the time I was done with my salad there were at least 15 people, some of which who also ordered salads, that didn't even have anything. Since the dressing on my salad was a vinaigrette though you can believe that those fruit flies are already were buzzing around paying close attention- so I had to keep my eye on my fork and my bowl which was irritating. There were people who ordered their own 6 pc Detroit style pizza. I know they take time but some people were ready to go by the time they got their food. Thankfully everybody was sharing everything and again I know we weren't a party per se, but the restaurant did know in advance for weeks that we were coming in and there was a possibility that all of us could have ordered a 6 piece Pizza, of our own,at the same time. The restaurant was busy on the inside and somewhat on the outside because it was raining but I don't think that we were anything that a well-equipped kitchen could have handled. I don't know what their staff situation was but it was just really weird and again I just don't feel like it was prepared in the back. There were mixed reviews on things that people ate. The pizza seem to be the way to go. I get that our situation may not be the regular patrons, but from what I noticed from other tables was it seemed like a lot of people's food were taking a long time as well. Other tables in the front seem to be swating away the gnats as much as we were. which like I said was not making it appetizing. Overall I guess it was okay? I mean they did a great job redecorating and the outside patio area was kind of cool. It was raining when we got there and rained harder by the time we left so we didn't really get to enjoy. But there was one bartender out there in quite a lot of people so I don't know what their service was like but I can't imagine it was super fast. When I come back? I wouldn't seek it out. Someone said hey meet me here I guess I would. But I would definitely want a table away from the front if I was inside and I probably have to pack a lot of patience. read more

Update: Manager reached out to my friend after she also posted a negative review on Google. Our party was invited back and we were given one free complimentary large pizza and drinks for a party of 12-15. I appreciate their effort to make it up so I'm increasing my review to 3 stars. We finally got to try the pizza and it was good, however, nothing amazing or ground breaking about the dough and crust. I think I've still had better Detroit style pizza elsewhere. They did have great toppings as a plus. The spaghetti squash lasagna was also just weird. They served it with the spaghetti squash rind still in tact so you have to scrape your lasagna off. It's not a very big spaghetti squash to begin with so portion is very small and it also came slightly undercooked. Would not recommend it and it's more trouble to eat than anything. --------------- Came here after they re-opened for a friend's birthday celebration. Waited almost two hours at the table and no food. They kept telling us our food would be out soon and by the third time we checked in they finally told us they were having issues with their pizza dough since the beginning of the day. If that were the case, I can't understand why they didn't just tell every customer that pizza was not going to work out. Majority of our table ordered pizza! By the time we were super hungry and ready to leave, we canceled our food orders but the manager was still trying to charge us for our drinks. They said we received a "discount" so SOME drinks were half off, but we were not going to put up with paying $70+ of drinks after waiting almost two hours with no food. That was disappointing so we told them in the end we were just going to pay for the tip for our friendly waitress since it was not her fault. We walked over to Imperial and got seated and had our food within an hour. For such a busy place, they did an amazing job. Don't waste your time with COMO's. Go anywhere but here. I wanted to like the new Como's but it's still so meh. One of the challenges of taking on the original name is that folks have come to recognize it for terrible customer service - my visit today felt like more of the same. One of the plates and sets of silverware had food remnants stuck on them and service was incredibly slow. The food is pretty good, but it's quite expensive ($20+ for a large pepperoni pizza) and there are so many tastier dining options in Ferndale at that price point. The menu as a whole really felt like a ripoff of Buddy's Pizza. The drink menu is average and there's not really an emphasis on any one type of drink. The ambiance here is a mess - the crappy pop/house music was so loud that you couldn't even think. UFC fighting was randomly on all of the TVs. This place's atmosphere doesn't seem to vibe with Ferndale's hip/chic reputation. I can see stopping by to have some drinks on the patio during the warmer months, but I'd never wait to eat here again. Myself and 3 friends tried the new Comos yesterday. Long wait. That's fine it's opening week, I totally understand that. We waited for an hour and watched a group of 4 walk in the front door after we had been there for an hour waiting to be seated. They must have been friends with the owner because they talked for awhile with the owner. Next thing we know they're seated before us. then we have to wait another 30 minutes. On the patio they are giving chip and guacamole for select individuals while they wait. Why not everyone? Our waitress was very nice and she was trying hard but she normally bartends so I have her a break. Another 20 mins food comes. We Order two pizzas for our group. They run out of pizza stands so they come take ours. A few minutes later a different waitress comes by and aggressively just picks up our second pizza stand and knocks my friend eyeglass on the floor and she never apologizes- just walks away. Anti pasta salad was so heavy on the Dijon mustard that we all passed on our salads. Food menu was nice but the prices are a little higher. Oh man, do I have a lot to say. I was very excited to go to the rebooted Como's. Their patio is awesome and second to none in Ferndale, so I was hoping for the best. Original Como's was all about the patio, as that was it's only upside. The service was always lacking and slow, but I'd always go when we had ample time. We'd order pitchers of beers (so we didn't have to depend on the service for drink refills because that NEVER worked out) and pizza. So, needless to say, I was pumped to see what this would be like under new management and with a new staff. I don't have ANY idea how this is still possible but the service is as bad, if not worse. We had a table on the patio (which admittedly looks awesome) and it took an hour for my husband to get his beer. I am not even being dramatic, we ordered drinks immediately and our food came before he got his first drink. We ordered pizza and a salad, and it took three times and 15 minutes to get salad dressing. Was the food good? Yeah, the pizza is legit and the build-your-own salad is awesome. Is it worth dealing with the service? Not to me. Detroit has an awesome food scene and there are loads of restaurants with delicious food that also prioritize service. Everything is expensive - there's no reason to charge $29 for an 8 piece pizza. Cocktails are $10 each (my full drink was spilled by the wind and I was still charged for it), though the beer prices are about par. All in all, while the waitress was friendly, it's still annoyingly slow. What is it about this space that makes the service so subpar? It has so much potential, and it truly saddens me that customer service isn't more valued. Specifically they declined to say how long or what number we were. We noted people without reservations and people who arrived later Than is being seated. The hostess eventually admitted they were doing damage control and seating off the wait list and people with the Most complaints. When I told the manager I thought this was wrong, he agreed and said he would seat us right away (also wrong in my mind). He tried to give us a low top table with people standing all around it. Great atmosphere and decor; I grabbed lunch during the week with a friend, and we sat outside. The pizza and salad came quickly and were delicious, and the pop was fresh. I'm not sure if I would recommend. Our server was fine and the ambiance was nice. However, one thing that matters a lot to me is cleanliness, and they tables they seated us out to outside were SO incredibly dirty-- we had someone wipe them down for us and their was so much dirt left behind on her towel. As for the food, the Greek and Antipasti salads were great-- delicious and a huge portion that is meant to be shared. The pizza, however, was fine, but nothing special at all. I prefer round pizzas only so feel free to discount this if you do prefer square deep dish, but I was not a fan of Como's pizzas: they only offer square deep dish (with GF square pizza options, though!), their marinara sauce was lacking, and it was definitely more on the side of a breaded and doughy piece of bread with sauce and cheese, as opposed to a slice of pizza. Definitely recommend that they add a round pizza option. read more

I've gone twice since the new como's has opened. My first visit was pleasant with a bustling patio. Service was quick and friendly and food was decent. We ordered two different pizzas and both were pretty tasty and plenty of food. Cocktails were good, but nothing special. Definitely enjoyed the patio and the music was lively. I visited again on 7/1 and also sat on the patio. This time, service was miserable. Our waitress didn't notice us for about 15 minutes. She took our orders and food took over an hour to get to us. She probably only checked on us 4-5 times during an almost 2 hour visit. The couple next to us waited nearly 20 minutes just to pay and when they gave the waitress money, she took almost 15 minutes to come back with their change. When I paid, she took my credit card, but didn't run it for nearly 10 minutes, during which time she actually came back and when we asked her for our card back she laughed and realized she never actually ran it and just kept the card in her pocket. A new couple sat down next to us and were ignored for nearly 20 minutes before a manager came by to help them out. We also saw another male manager just walking around chatting, but not helping the staff and not making sure customers were being taken care of. Multiple people around us complained about their service. It seems like there were a few workers trying to pick up slack for some of the others. Our waitress definitely It wasn't like the wait staff appeared stressed, some of them were just walking around and chatting, but not checking on their tables. I understand being short staffed and having a wait because of that, but when managers and staff alike are just walking around, but not checking on their tables or checking on food, thats when it's embarrassing. Overall, I enjoyed the environment and the patio with decent food, but unless they get serious about the service at Como's I can't see it lasting very long. Definitely do not go if you aren't willing to spend a few hours. Edit 7/4/19 Went back on 7/4 for lunch and service was much better. Colin was attentive and made our experience significantly better. Yet another inedible $20+ pizza from comos. The pizza was delivered in a standing pile of grease and the slices were just drenched and dripping with oil. Going straight in garbage is that amount of oil and grease is enough to make anyone sick. I am pretty lenient with mixups on delivery orders but if you take into account the fact that this pizza was ordered as well done with light cheese, it's even more egregious. read more

Bummer Como's. Host #1 was wearing her mask under her nose, host 2 tried to seat two guys right next to our table. When I asked her why, as it was not 6 feet away, she said we shouldn't have been sat at that table, and it was because of our stroller. The remodel is very impressive and the place looks 20x more appealing than before. The one pizza we were able to get was pretty good. There were so many issues with the service though. Our sever was visibly overwhelmed and there were extremely long gaps of time between him checking on us. Cocktails arrived in cheap plastic cups since they allegedly can't serve glass on the patio, yet glass beer bottles are apparently fine. The biggest issue was the pizza oven breaking down which resulted in us only getting one of the three pizzas ordered. I understand things happen, but not a good experience at all when a place that touts their pizza is unable to serve it on a busy Friday night. I will likely give them another chance once the opening kinks are worked out, but with this being such an anticipated reopening my party was less than impressed. read more

I wrote a scathing review a few years ago after being served spoiled chicken here. After changing ownership, this place did a total 180. The service, ambiance, food, and drink have improved to what I would describe as, "what more could you want?" In my opinion, you'd be hard pressed to find better Detroit style pizza. My buddy and I had the granny (pepperoni, mushroom, and sauteed onion), the roni (pepperoni, spicy peppers), and the veggie. All were super delicious with a nicely developed caramelized crust. Dropped in for a drink after work on Friday. Looks awesome inside, smells amazing, great staff and yummy spinach dip! There are vegan and gluten free menu items, the spinach dip being gluten free. The spinach dip had an Indian fusion to it, super unique and really delicious! There's some spices, feta cheese -- I was really impressed! The corn tortilla chips were made in house and so good! The only bummer is that there is not a happy hour menu or specials, so it was a pricier after work drop in. It shares a building with traverse city whiskey company, so it's two options within one building for some drinks! I'd go back again! read more

Watery, next to no flavor. How an operator, with several restaurants, gets a basic item this bad is beyond me. I've eaten at several of their restaurants and not experienced this. I won't be back. Okay - Smaller menu than before, pizza is a bit more expensive and now exclusively square, and the wait seems to be longer. However, the pizza was fantastic. My husband and I just finished dining on COMO's outdoor patio. Despite what previous reviews have said, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Upon entering, the hostess waved to us from the hostess stand (which is a bit inside the restaurant, not right in your face like they typically are). She told us the patio was seat yourself, family style, and full service (waitress would be right with us). We picked a seat and had waters within 30 seconds and a waitress asking us what we wanted to drink! We loved the food (pizza was 10/10 and the Bib and Beet salad was insanely delicious with the shrimp added). She let us know pizza takes about 30 minutes to cook so we expected to wait for that. It was a Saturday night, so we made reservations. It was really busy when we arrived, but they sat us right away. The kids were hungry, so we ordered right away. Went on a Saturday afternoon & had to wait for kitchen to turn over for dinner. We had a couple drinks & service was severely lacking. We had to ask for more water which was served in a 6 oz glass. Most of time we had to ask for things. Ordered an antipasto salad which had more dressing than lettuce. Took 30 minutes to get. Salami slices were plentiful but too large. Only 3 tiny pieces of red onion. Too much cheese too. Pizza was tasty. We ordered a large & had 2 different toppings on each side. Charged for 4 toppings. One side was fresh garlic & basil which are standard in most every kitchen & shouldn't be charged for. Server was nowhere to be found when needed & had to ask others. Super fun spot!! If you had been to the old restaurant this revision will not make you melancholy. It is a full reboot and it is vastly improved in every way. We had to eat outside. They do take reservations in the main dining room. At the time of this writing, I would strongly encourage you to do so as they are very busy and it isn't that big of a space. The outside patio is first come first serve and there are a number of family style seating areas where you will find yourself sitting with others. There was a DJ playing good music and the overall vibe was really good. In terms of food, we ordered two pizzas; the Roni and the Medical Weight Loss. We ordered two smalls which is a total of 8 pieces. It is worth noting that the difference between a large and a small pizza is that the large serving is just two small pizzas. We also had the antipasto salad. I wanted to love the pizza. Don't get me wrong, it was very solid but it didn't steal the show. Think medium thick deep dish if that makes any sense. Again, really good but maybe a little overpriced for what it is. The antipasto salad, on the other hand, was lick the plate good. If you like a good antipasto salad, stop here. It is that good! Oh, and I almost forgot the cocktails. I will just say this: Dig into their craft cocktail menu and plan on calling an Uber. We had a lot of fun! Really four and a half. I went and re read some of the reviews and was surprised at how middling they are. But the threads seem to be pricey and small Menu. But really the issue should be is it good. Is the service good and anything glaring. We thought it was great. Yes the small pizza with two items was 15 dollars. But it was easily two or three or times better than what you get for 7 bucks at carry out. Ingredients were fresh. Tasty and plentiful. Salad the same. Could not even finish the side antipasto. With pizza salad and a drink and ice tea it was 37 dollars with tip and we sat outside on a great night. I thought it was exactly what it set out to be and well executed. I'm a person who puts 6 cloves of garlic in a recipe when it calls for two and this was way over the top even for me. Went the other day for a drink and of course ended up getting guacamole. It was amazing!!! Although it was not your normal guac. Instead of cilantro it's basil and topped with a bruschetta mix.
