This store is a great addition to the Georgetown area. It must be new because I didn't see it here before. I was slightly disappointed that the Wawa store across the street had closed down. I was intrigued by the large store location and seating outside. It was fall and they were already offering their pumpkin spice drinks. I was able to go in and place my order. There is a large amount of seating. Unfortunately it was all filled up with local students who were working and hanging out. I ordered a sandwich and iced coffee. The food is the same size as the breakfast sandwiches from Starbucks. The iced coffee was pretty good. This place seems like a fun area to hang out with others. I expected it to be filled with Georgetown students. It was a nice day so everyone was outside hanging out. I needed a nice pick me up and this place did the job. I will have to come back here again next time I am in town to try out their other flavors. read more

Very tasty coffee. I wanted coffee and so I was getting coffee. I signed up for rewards here and got a free coffee. The man who made it, was very nice and helped me got my free coffee. My girlfriend took a liking to him as she said he was a role model variant, not sure what that means, I just drank my coffee. And the place looked amazing as it had plants and good music, and a large sitting area so it was the perfect place to drink the coffee. It was good coffee. Like "compassly" good coffee. To kick off summer I came here and purchased 2 papaya matcha lemonade drinks which is one of their promotional seasonal drinks. It has papaya coconut milk along with some type of lime whip topping. I slipped away from work to walk over here and get these for a couple of people on my team. When I arrived, I realized that I should have given myself more time because the line was all the way to the door. The line moved along which was good. This Cafe is very nice and there are several rooms where people can drink coffee or eat breakfast. Because of all of the people, it was quite loud. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy, there wasn't a line to order and there was plenty of seating. The cherry blossom latte was really good! It is slightly sweet, but very tasty so I finished it pretty quickly. The barista made it with a white foam heart on top. My husband and I used to go to this Compass Coffee all the time. The baristas used to be so friendly and my husband thought the coffee was great. I've always been happy with my drink orders here. I decided to drop in and was surprised how much it has gone downhill since five years ago. The baristas were not friendly at all and were quietly rude and impatient. The environment felt chaotic but not in a fun bustling way like I remember. I could've ignored all of this if the order itself was actually good. Even just moderately good. But the iced matcha latte with almond milk that I got was surprisingly gross. Probably one of the worst (if not the worst) that I've ever gotten. I tried to give it several sips to give it a fair chance. But it was so bad, I eventually discarded of it after a few sips. It was watery and did not have a good flavor at all. $7 down the drain. For a matcha latte that is actually good, I'd recommend Maman just steps away, Blank Street on Prospect close to the Wisconsin intersection, or even CapitalOne Cafe on M Street which serves Verve Coffee (50% off house-made drinks if you use your CapitalOne card). I'd even bet that most coffee places in Georgetown have better matcha lattes than the one I got at this Compass. But those three were the only Georgetown ones I tried recently aside from this Compass location. This was a really disappointing experience, especially since this Compass Coffee was such a big part of when my husband and I used to live here. I guess good things don't last forever. Leaving two stars instead of one in memory of what this place used to be and also because the building itself is actually still quite nice. read more

Probably one of the top 5 coffee shops locations in DC for working remote or taking a business meeting. It's large with many chairs, tables and desk options. A lot of coffee shops in DC are small with not a lot of work spaces. This a true coffee shop. Then to add the coffee is the best in town. With different brew options. Nothing is water down. I am a bit of an espresso purist, and I was a little bit disappointed in my experience at compass coffee given the positive reviews I had seen. I could definitely see how the espresso brewed here, which is very strong in flavor, would do really well in a latte or cappuccino. However, individual shots seem to be too diluted, with a very weak crema that doesn't hold up. The service was super friendly the morning I visited, and my drink came out quickly. I really liked the indoor space, which looks like an excellent place to get some work done or read. I came when they first opened then I moved to another state and haven't come back until today. I used to always get their hot Nutella latte but I decided to try the iced version instead. This is the only place I know of that serves Nutella flavored drinks so I like that. It makes them more unique. This location is very spacious and convenient for those who wish to work on their computers here. Prior to this location I went to the Rosslyn location in Virginia. The price is around the same if not a little more than Starbucks. But I think its a great alternative to Starbucks. I'll be sure to stop by this location again next time I'm in the area. read more

This is one of the most spacious cafes that I have ever been to in the city. It's nicely decorated with plenty of comfortable seats for everyone. I've already been here for about two hours, and I've had a pretty productive day here so far. This place is non-stressful and peaceful really. What you don't have is a lot of loud conversations or loud music for that matter. I ordered one of their Fall favorites called the pumpkin cream cold brew. They offer food and some pastries as well, but I skipped on eating anything at the moment. They also have some tables outside on the sidewalk which is nice, even on a nice warm day like today. Got the nitro cold brew & almond butter latte. They were both pretty good. Would recommend. Stopped by this place because we needed caffeine. We chose this place randomly because it was the closest to where we were, and wow, wasn't expecting this place to be packing with people. It almost feels like the pandemic doesn't exist. We were visiting in Jan, when it was omicron-era, but this place was full of people studying/chilling/hanging out with friends (they checked vaccination status as per the mandate). Love, love, love this place! Everyone here is welcoming and kind. I usually get the Nitro Cold Brew and it is amazing in its own. No need to add anything to it. I've had several different lattes and whatnot and they are really sweet. Too sweet for me. So the cold brew is perfect. You can get a 32oz growler of the nitro cold brew for about $13. This Compass has a really interesting decor. You come in, and it feels like it's a generously spacious cafe within a grand, old, beautiful train station, something like DC's Union Station. The cappuccino is like in all Compasses: absolutely superb. The maple scone is also like in all Compasses, tasty flavours, but way too sweet. But since all nonsavoury pastries are too sweet (except the plain croissant) I knew I had no choice on that front, so I went with the one with the most interesting taste. The crowd is very mixed: a few Gen-Zs, more millenials, some Gen-X, and a good number of boomers. Those working on their laptop and those that are here for a conversation. I want to like it here, I really do. However, I just can't seem to understand the hype around Compass Coffee. I see the appeal for college students as it's a pretty good place to settle in and study (when it's not packed), but the food and coffee itself just isn't that great in my opinion. I am by no means a coffee snob, but I've had enough coffee in my lifetime to distinguish good from not-so-good coffee. Unfortunately, Compass's coffee was not so good. I went a couple times to try and redeem my 1st experience, but both times was disappointed. I got a cold brew with oat milk the first time and didn't love the flavor (or lack thereof). The 2nd time, I got a cappuccino and also didn't love that. It just didn't taste strong. I also got a ham and cheese croissant which was fine. The employees were nice and seemed to keep things moving despite it being busy. Do not give your money to this business who doesn't value accomplished, respected, educated baristas. They have been slowly firing, without warning, union workers. They have flooded multiple store locations with new, inexperience employees who have not had proper food and safety training, so they can keep open while offing the heart of compass coffee, their staff- who's union is asking for very reasonable demands like better working equipment, optional tipping, and pest control. Just warm bodies in shops appearing all is well while you the customer have no idea. there is better coffee in dc, with better morals and beliefs. read more

Not always the easiest neighborhood to find open spots for brunch (or parking), but was able to get some seating here on a holiday afternoon. Large interior with all sorts of seating in the back; filled mostly with people on their laptops (and a coffee). Didn't want anything elaborate, so settled on an Iced Latte ($4.75) and a Ham & Cheese Croissant ($4). Items come out quickly toward the end of the bar, and they have a station for utensils/sugar if necessary. Coffee is good - not too bitter and didn't require any extra sugar. The croissant was stale and the meat inside seemed haphazardly inserted. Probably would have been much better as a fresh item in the morning. Despite being off the main road, this coffee shop is popular and it shows. There is some seating outside, though no space heaters to speak of.
