My friend and I had a coffee and pastry here today. The service was really good! The drinks were made fast, and mine tasted great (chai latte with oatmilk, which costs $1 more). The croissant was huge, packed with flavor, and tasted fresh. I wish they offered to warm it up because it would have tasted better if so. The inside is a bit small. There are only three sets of two-person seats, but since it's so close to work, this was a good spot to go to. The only small thing I wish they would do is label the names and prices on the pastries. I know what an almond and chocolate croissant is, but there tarts and other things I didn't know the names of or the ingredients, such as nuts or other allergens. My favorite coffee period! I am not sure what they put in this coffee but I came back for this every week. I usually buy the canned coffees available in the store, the vanilla is my absolute favorite. They also have mocha, chia, and oat milk available for purchase. Each can is $3. I have ordered a few of the specialty drinks offered at La Colombe such as the oat milk latte, it was okay not sweet enough for me. The staff here are really nice and fast at the cash register during the rush hour. La Colombe is a solid choice to get your caffeine fix! I've only been in the morning but I've had good experiences. I'm not a coffee connoisseur but the mocha I had was tasty. At the time I went (on a Tuesday before 10a), the pastry selection was good though perhaps not as expansive as the early pre-work rush. Service was friendly and quick overall. Other reviewers have noted seating is more limited than other spots and I'd agree. Given the location, I imagine there are mostly to-go orders! I got some pretty art in my cup and all was well with my coffeehouse soul. There are may coffee Shops in the Farragut square/downtown area, La Colombe is a winner in my book! read more

It's in downtown DC just a quick walk from The White House (or The Washington Post) if you need a break from sight seeing. It's a small shop with one standing table and just 2-3 smaller tables for seating, but it still serves pastries, draft lattes, and coffee beans. Like all La Colombe shops there is no wifi so don't go here expecting it. This location is set up to cater to people on their way to work seeking grab and go quality coffee. The one downside of this location is they do not make their sweet latte (a latte with sweetened condensed milk). If you want that, head to the Blagden Alley location. read more

Favorites are the Black and Tan and the draft latte, but I'll probably try more as time goes by as this has only been open for a few weeks. The service here has been fast and friendly. It's a small location but there's still space to sit down if needed. I wouldn't recommend working from here, though, if you need to work in a coffee shop. read more

I'm a creature of habit-once I find something that I like, I just get the same thing. At La Colombe, I like their cold brew with a little cream and their simple syrup. It's not a large space and I've never stayed--I always get my drink to go but the service for the most part is good. I also, seldom don't have to wait long in line. Nobody wants to wait a year and a Sunday for their order. I don't know what they put in their cold brews but I keep wanting more. They have your lid and a spoon waiting for you--different from any other place I've gotten coffee from. I'm definitely a fan of La Colombe--the coffee is good, maybe I'll try something else (probably not). read more

Matcha green tea was great and left a slightly (and pleasantly) sweet taste in the back of my throat. However, I'm no expert on matcha (I very rarely drink matcha myself. My sister is more of an expert). I'm more of a coffee/espresso person, but I came to this place at nighttime, so I didn't want to get too caffeinated - hence the tea, no coffee. Next time I'll try espresso or another coffee drink. Maybe a draft latte. I don't think I'll like it much though, but I'll admit that I am very curious to try their draft lattes. Very friendly service. Quite small place with 4 tables or so, so come here early to grab seating or just cross your fingers and hope to get lucky. read more

Bottom Line: High quality coffee, fancy pastries and lovely staff. I really like trying local coffee shops and La Colombe is among the best! There are only a few places where I can drink coffee black and La Colombe is one of them. Their coffee is rich without a hint of bitterness and it goes great with the lovely pastries they sell. The staff is high class and welcoming and great at making recommendations if you want to try something new. I do agree with another reviewer that the coffee delivery system can be a bit tough to navigate when its busy. The baristas tell you where they are going to put your coffee rather than putting a name or number on the cup. And sometimes it is hard to hear over the chatter and espresso machine so you have to really pay attention to make sure our cup isn't swiped or you don't swipe someone else's cup. read more

Nice spacious and clean La Colombe! Not a ton of seating, but definitely enough seating if you don't come during busy hours. Came here for coffee in the afternoon (because I was getting a bit sleepy after a pretty big lunch and still had a couple meetings in my day) and nobody ever really turns down an afternoon coffee run. This location was near the DC location of my current workplace and seems really convenient for those who work around Farragut Square. There wasn't a huge line around 2pm-ish, which there can be at all work hours in some of the NY locations but we did still have to wait a bit. Great coffee, small store laid out poorly. I enjoy La Colombe's unique coffee offerings. (The draft latte is like what a coffee milkshake should be.) They are also good about local pastries. But this store in particular is difficult to enjoy because of its size and layout. The space is smaller than usual. There are about six seats in a bench with tables, plus a standing table. Folks tend not to use them efficiently. I've also seen employees doing the books in the customer seating more than once, which undermines my confidence. I wish they would rethink the layout here. But, as long as you don't need to stay and sip, this is a good place to get unique coffee to go. read more

I normally love La Colombe's Blagden Alley location, and especially their draft latte. However, when I decided to switch it up and try this I Street location, I immediately came to regret it. I went out of my way to get there, ordered their draft latte, and quickly left the store to catch my bus back. After getting on my bus though, I noticed they had given me this abomination of a "latte" that was probably 75% foam. The worst part is, after all this trouble (and multiple phone calls), the most this location would do was (seemingly begrudgingly) refund my money. What about all my wasted time? I noticed others have had better luck with their draft lattes here, but my experience - and the way they handled an obvious error on their part - left me not wanting to return. You can't go wrong with La Colombe. I've been a fan of this Philadelphia coffee roaster ever since I chanced upon their Rittenhouse Square location so many years ago. I was thrilled to see them expand to D.C., first with the Blagden Alley location followed by Chinatown and even in the new D.C. REI store. Now, they have opened a new location a few steps from Farragut Square. I visited on a weekend, so it was pretty quiet. This shop is fairly small, with only a couple of tables with seating and one standing table. It's clearly a mostly grab-and-go place, which makes sense given that they are located in the heart of office building land. I'm jelly of all those who work in the proximity of this La Colombe, as I personally do not have the luxury of being near any remotely decent coffee shops. For those who prefer quality, La Colombe is one of the best in this area. I usually prefer to order their Ethiopia Yirgz, Corsica, Afrique, Fishtown, (draft) latte, or even one of their teas. If you're not familiar with La Colombe, they are known for their old-school dark roasts, iced coffee preparation, and draft lattes (cold-pressed espresso and frothed milk latte ordered on tap). They are one of the archetypal U.S. third-wave, independent coffee roasters. Thrilled to have another La Colombe in the District flay and I hope they're able to expand more in the coming year(s)! read more

I am a HUGE fan of La Colombe--especially since they started offering an oat milk draft latte. I came here the other day to get an oat milk black & tan which was absolutely everything I dreamed of...except that it made me late for work. There was a huge line on a Tuesday morning and the baristas were struggling to keep up with orders. It seemed like the way they made them was that the cashier would yell out someone's order and hope the baristas would make it...I ended up waiting for about 10 mins for my drink and when I saw several people that were behind me in line walk away with their drink, I finally went up to the barista and asked if she could make my drink. It definitely got lost in translation somewhere. I saw this happen to someone else while I was standing there waiting for my drink as well. The barista was super friendly about it, and I get that things happen, but I think they should try a new method for keeping drinks organized and churning out at busy times. read more
