Got told by the large blonde chick I can't be helped because I didn't have ID. Isn't this place supposed to be an ER?

I had a severe allergic reaction in both eyes. Treated quickly and professionally. Great sense of urgency and friendliness here.

Upon arrival, I waited in the lobby for more than two hours before being triaged. During that time, I vomited blood four times. I informed registration staff each time my symptoms worsened. While they acknowledged me, no one alerted a nurse or physician. The only communication I received during this extended wait occurred when I personally approached the registration desk. Nurses and clinical staff did not proactively provide updates, check on my condition, or offer reassurance. No one communicated directly with me about delays, next steps, or the severity of my symptoms until one nurse later addressed me in a dismissive manner that felt as though my concerns were being minimized rather than evaluated. While waiting, another patient loudly discussed on speaker phone that doctors believed he might have pneumonia or COVID. He was not asked to wear a mask or take any precautions. He also played a video with explicit sexual content and profanity in the waiting room. The environment felt chaotic and unsafe. Because the waiting room was full and I was feeling increasingly anxious and physically ill, I briefly stepped outside the sliding glass doors for space. A nurse who had performed my EKG and lab work told me I was not permitted to sit there, despite the lack of available seating inside. She indicated she would draw additional blood in the waiting area, which did not seem appropriate given the proximity to other patients. When I requested that my IV be removed, I was taken into a side room. The nurse appeared distracted, singing aloud while working. She then reprimanded me for placing an item in the wrong trash container and announced to the triage nurse that I was leaving. Several patients later told me they could clearly hear staff discussing me as I exited, including a comment from a nurse stating she "hated patients like me." As I left the facility, I vomited blood again outside the ER entrance. No staff member checked on my condition. My experience was marked by prolonged delays during a potentially serious medical situation, lack of communication, limited infection control measures, and unprofessional conduct. I sought emergency care hoping to feel safe, heard, and appropriately treated. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.

If I could give 10 stars to The Emergency Clinic at The Pearl, I definitely would!…read more Last week I had some medical complications and from what my family doctor had mentioned on my last visit, I needed a CT Scan to know exactly what my problem was. When I started to look for emergency clinics I noticed this location had a CT scan, plus I had already visit them in the past and had a wonderful experience. I was quickly seen by Dr. Zeballos and he was super attentive and professional. During my time there I also interacted with three other nurses and they were all wonderful people. After just a few hours here, I left feeling 10 times better and with the right diagnose and help that I needed. Besides the amazing people working here, the clinic itself is so clean and modern. Even though they've been opened for a few years now, I swear the clinic looks exactly the same as when I first visit them four years ago. Thank you to the entire team for The Emergency Clinic at The Pearl for their wonderful care!

But while I was under the care of this clinic in Alamo Heights, I've never been so mistreated in my entire life. So I recommend for any high acuity needs (or even low acuity needs) DO NOT VISIT THIS CLINIC! Horrible care. Unsafe wheelchair handling. Disrespect of personal boundaries. Lack of skill competency. Threatening and coercive language...I wouldn't return to this emergency clinic even if my life depended on it. The physician on staff (my family and I can't even remember her name because she was not involved in hardly any of my care) and the RN Magdiel were completely incompetent and condescending. I ended up being transferred by ems to another hospital for emergency gallbladder removal and while under the care of this staff I've never been so untreated and uncared for by medical personnel in my 41 years. I will never return to this establishment and I will never refer any family or friends to this clinic either. Period. Unsafe wheelchair handling - Mr. Magdiel RN repeatedly ran my wheelchair into doorways and furniture, creating unnecessary discomfort and risk of injury. Violation of privacy - Upon taking me to the restroom, Mr. Magdiel RN told my father to remain in the bathroom to help me urinate, despite my clear statement that I did not need assistance. I am 41 years old, and this was both inappropriate and unnecessary. Lack of competency - He did not appear to know how to start an IV. When I expressed that starting one in my hand would cause significant pain due to my condition, he disregarded my concerns. And I already had a working IV another female nurse started in my right AC Threatening and coercive language - When I declined the IV in my hand, he stated, "Well, I guess I'll have to tape your arms down straight then." I refused, to which he replied, "Well, I guess you don't want your medication for pain then." This was manipulative, unethical, and unacceptable. Because I already had a working IV to my right AC. For the amount of effort this clinic puts into patient service and satisfaction scores you would think they would have better hired staff. Even the ems transport team ShurMed has more empathy and compassion. I definitely left ShurMed a five star review
