So a month later we get a $130.00 bill. That floored us. So my wife called and we were told that they were no longer an in network provider. That they got a letter from our insurance provider dropping them from the network. I understand these things happen. But upon check in they never said anything about no longer being in network when in fact they knew they weren't. When checking in they always asked if there is any changes to our insurance. We didn't know that they were dropped as our insurance company never notified us of the change. So we appealed the bill to Shallotte Family Dentistry and they refused to work with us on their bill citing that they file our insurance as a courtesy. Beware, that you could end up with a huge bill if you had more work than a cleaning done. I would no longer recommend them.

I recently had a tooth pulled and Dr. Carmichael had the tooth out and was going over how to take care of it in a matter of minutes. I decided right then this is my new family dentist. On my follow up visit he checked my teeth out and found some issues and sat down and explained all my options, the best options and the most cost effective options. Plus the fact that they open at 7 am so I don't miss much work is awesome. Definitely worth looking into if your looking for a dentist.

I called last Friday to tell them that the character of the pain had changed from pain with biting to a chronic toothache. I was told to take the painkiller tramadol. I called the office today at about 8:43 AM to inform them that my appointment with the Wilmington endodontist had been changed from Thursday to Friday. The staff told me that the appointment was for evaluation only, and not for treatment. The staff at this office told me that the referral was for treatment as well. I was told that the dentist would call me back today to ascertain where the treatment was to be given. If treatment was not at the endodontist, then I wanted an appointment for next week for treatment at this office. I did not want the toothache to continue any longer. I was not given an appointment, and the dentist never called me back. There was no concern for my level of pain, nor a response as to which office was to provide treatment. The referring dentist should have contacted the endodontist to work out where treatment was to take place and when.

She explained everything, didn't try to "sell" me other procedures. Dr. Bachara showed confidence in what she was doing and made me feel relaxed. Her assistant Susanne was great. A very important aspect of the visit was the Covid19 protocol. It was very good and I had no doubt at all they were serious about protecting me and themselves. The price was reasonable. She also called me at home later that evening to see how I was doing. I'm sure not many dentists would do that. I hope to never need a dentist again, but when I do it will be with Dr. Bachara.

I did not receive a thorough exam. I've spent a lot of time in a dentist chair over my 68 years and he may be the worst in just the fact that he didn't communicate with me at all. Hopefully he doesn't treat all his patients like this and maybe he was having a bad day. The dental hygienist was very nice and did a good job. The office personnel were very friendly and helpful. They did tell me my insurance wouldn't cover any of the dental costs but upon returning home home I call BCBS and they do cover 50% even though Ocean Drive Dentistry is not in their group. I don't agree with the added 20.00 for PPE and I wasn't advised of this charge in advance.
