Just to give you an example of attention: I once emailed the office a question during their non-business day and wasn't expecting to get a reply until next day. Dr. Forghani took the time to answer all of my questions and talked me through all the pros and cons of doing it now vs. waiting. I've never had a dentist (yet alone any doctor) spend that much time with me prior to a procedure, and I felt so much more calm because I trusted him. The procedure itself was relatively quick and the only painful part was really the numbing shots on both sides. After he thoroughly removed the dead nerves, my tooth already started to come back to its normal color and with a bit of bleaching, it almost looks normal now. This was honestly the best experience I could've ever asked for and I'm so grateful that Dr. Forghani was my doctor for this. I went to the IAOMT site and also called Dams to get a list of recommended dentists. I did a lot of research over a month-long period, even going to one dentist in Manhattan and calling several others to get a sense of how seriously they treat amalgam replacement. I unfortunately had to eliminate most of the Manhattan dentists (one sounded great but was super expensive and doesn't allow cancellations; the others, frankly, didn't sound too good). I finally decided it was worth the trip to NJ to see Dr. Steinberg. So far that's turned out to be one of my better decisions. He takes *every* precaution in the book when replacing your amalgam fillings--he covers your clothing and face; gives you oxygen; uses a vacuum under your chin to suck away the mercury vapor; exposes only the tooth he is working on; uses suction on the tooth (to further pull away the mercury vapor); uses a rubber dam, etc. He also talks to you about supplements you should take (lots of vitamin C for instance) before and after--he understands that mercury is serious business and he doesn't screw around with it by taking chances with your health or his! I've had only one filling (of six) replaced so far (he works on one quadrant at a time), but so far so good! I go back in a couple of weeks for tooth number two. I'm looking forward to getting this crap out of my mouth, finally! (I asked my conventional dentist about it a couple of years ago and let her talk me out of it, since she said it's more dangerous to remove than just leave in.) Oh, and it turns out the trip to Dr. Steinberg's office in NJ is really short (from Port Authority). Easy breezy--I'm so glad I found and chose him!
