They did an excellent job of resurrecting my Mac Book from the dead, prices are great, and evaluation is free. Who does that these days?! I took my iMac in for some TLC. I got a call a couple of hours later saying that the motherboard was done, and it would take $500 to replace, or I could buy a new computer. It was the worst news I heard all week. And in spite of the bad news, I'm rating this place 5 stars, because the service I received from these guys was amazing. I had Dan and his shop build a custom gaming rig for me last year. A great machine at a very reasonable price. When the power supply failed, he rushed to get a replacement and installed it at no charge. Recently, I installed additional memory which ended up failing causing a whole slew of Windows issues. I took it in a Saturday morning and Dan had it fixed by 2 PM the same day. There is no need to go anywhere else to buy new, upgrade or get repairs. They know their stuff! It took these guys 13-days to get my data off my bad hard drive and they still charged me less than 100.00. And... they worked with me to lessen my costs to replace my laptop's hard drive by suggesting alternatives. These guys have a wonderful shop to hang out on First Street, they offer underwear for squirrels (LOL) and they have puppies hanging out in their shop. This is what tech support should be: caring, concerned about costs and sensitive about our data. I'm going to be telling friends outside of Benicia to come here for their computer needs. I took in my computer that was newer and had a service contract from where I purchased it ) Everytine I had an issue it cost and arm and a leg evne with the service contractand never got fixed. One time into the computer doctor, for a very fair price it was fixed, ahead of time promised. My computer was giving me an error message telling me the fan was broken and to service the computer to avoid damage. Being that Benicia is a small town, I googled computer repair stores thinking I would have to drive a while to find a good one. I found this shop and decided to give it a try. I brought the computer in for them to take a look at. Within 5 minutes, I was walking back to my car with my computer which had already been fixed. Apparently the only problem was a bunch of dust had gotten into the fan. They opened up my computer, cleaned it all up and best of all, I did not pay a single cent! These guys were super cool and polite. I looked at their rates and know from going to other repair stores that their prices were very reasonable. I thought my hard drive was fried after my MacBook Pro wouldn't boot up, so I messaged Dan on Yelp and he got back to me asap. Luckily, I was able to bring it in the very next day. He ran a bunch of diagnostics on my hard drive for FREE and and found out it was the connector that was bad. Design flaw by Apple, go figure. He ended up replacing it for a reasonable price and the whole service only took about a couple hours. I'll definitely be coming back to Computer1 if I run into any issues in the future. My ancient PC finally died. They diagnosed the problem in about 10 seconds- bad motherboard. Crap. They pulled everything off my PC and put it all onto my MacBook Pro, including transferring all of my old Outlook emails from Windows XP into new Outlook for Mac 2013 edition- something that heretofore had been impossible for me. No charge for that. Fast. Efficient. Professional. Super courteous and respectful. Knowledgeable- answered all of my annoying questions with easy to understand language. Pulled the old hard drives for me, suggested I keep them as a permanent backup. No charge. Finished in a few hours. All that for $75????? I will DEFINITELY be back. I'm changing this review so people understand my complaint as it is SOLELY for customer service and how I was treated.... The reason for my complaint and ensuring everyone knows my concern is that when someone doesn't understand something... you don't treat them like an idiot, you explain it, without them having to ask multiple times. I walked out of here very aggravated and insulted at HOW I WAS TREATED! In the customer service world you not only have to be able to resolve an issue by refunding it, but you have to be able to treat people with professional courtesy. My complaint is for how I was treated, there is never an excuse to talk down to people, especially in customer service. I went here back in December to get a computer fixed. They said it was the battery, replaced it and reinstalled the system on the computer. 2 Months later the computer would not turn on with the battery in it, only when it was out and plugged in. I took it back to them where their FIRST resolution was to give my money back and get me out of there as quick as possible. I told them I wanted to find the real problem and get it fixed. The condescending A** who was so quick to throw money at me to leave, wouldn't even help me understand why he wouldn't even take it to try to find the real problem. I was not rude, I was aggravated by that point because they wouldn't even explain to me why they weren't willing to try to find the real problem. I was simply trying to understand what they were telling me. I don't fix computers... that is OBVIOUSLY the reason I brought it to them, BUT there is NEVER ANY REASON to treat someone like an idiot and talk down to them. I will make sure everyone I know goes somewhere else just to avoid people treating others like that. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE A PERSON!! AGAIN TO reiterate... I DID take the refund for the $100 reinstall I paid for, not the $40 battery! I even offered to give the battery back... I am not accusing this shop of MESSING my computer up, as they did not. I understand, after having to ASK multiple times, that their issue was that they didn't know how to find the real cause of my problem. read more

I never leave reviews but I have to for Computer 1. I called about 9:30am this morning as my computer wouldn't charge, thought it might be the charger socket on the computer but I really didn't know. Well, they don't open until 10 but I thought maybe I could leave a message, I really needed my computer fixed as I use if for work Monday through Thursday and HAVE to have it working. He answered the phone and told me that I could come right then. WHAT? I have never had a company tell me to come in before business hours. That right there spoke volumes! When I got there just a few minutes after 10 I was greeted with kind hellos and smiles by the guys behind the counter. Fortunately, after working on it for a bit he determined it was my battery and not the charger port that was causing the problem so he sent me on my way, free of charge! I had also wanted him to look at my daughters computer that is only 14 months old but wouldn't get past the Dell welcome screen. I left it with him and said no rush, just look at it when you can, next week is fine. Well, 10 minutes after leaving the shop he called me with a diagnosis.....hard drive is bad. That was hard to handle since the computer was only 6 months old when this problem happened and I was in no hurry to look at it since the warranty had expired and she was okay without it. Well, I gave him the go ahead because school will be starting soon and she would need it. Again, saying no rush. Well, it's about 2:30pm and I just got a call that her computer is fixed and ready to be picked up! Not only are these guys kind, they are seriously honest and if they feel it would be more than the computer is worth to fix it, they tell you that. In an age where everyone is out to make a buck, these guys would rather the customer be happy! Good job Computer 1!!!! You have gained a customer for life!!!!! read more

These guys are THE BEST! Took my macbook pro in because it kept crashing and wouldn't boot up. They installed a newer, bigger hard drive for me and we thought was the end. Well.....after about a week of it working OK, my laptop began doing the same exact thing. I took it back to them and they diagnosed the problem as also the hard drive cable that connects to the motherboard was kaput as well. They replaced the cable for me at NO CHARGE for me having to bring it back! They have my business for as long as I am in the Bay Area :) read more

My old HP PC suddenly won't power up. Dan took a quick test. It's not power supply issue. I deceided to get data from the HD. Dan would charge $75 per HD. He told me that I could get a HD to USB docking tool to get data by myself. It would only cost me $35 to $40. He didn't ask me to pay anything. He said he doesn't charge diagnosis. Wow! I couldn't believe it! I still paid him $20 for his help and time. Next time, I know where to fix my PC. read more

I took my laptop in expecting that it just needed a password prompt removed. When I dropped it off they quoted me an hour to fix it. After Dan determined that it was actually a corrupted user profile he called and told me that it couldn't be fixed in an hour and depending on the issue I he may have to reload the operating system and my apps. I was delighted when he called me the next morning an hour before the shop opened to tell me it was fixed!! They charged me the same as they had quoted for password removal. These guys have been very helpful in the past. They helped me upgrade the memory on my old mac so I had no complaints. Called to get three quotes for a custom build, High end, Medium range, and Bottom barrel. I received one quote, the highest, and followed up a week later. I was told i'd be email the two other quotes soon. After a few months i decided to see how much it would be to just upgrade the mother board and processor on my current PC. When i called the guy on the phone decided to lay into me about how i have received four different quotes and never follow up and that he cant keep doing this for me. Maybe i just caught him on a bad day? Maybe he has me confused with someone else I guess an average bloke like me cant ask a question unless I spend a butt load of money with them. FANTASTIC!!! After being jerked around by a twit in Vallejo, found Computer 1 on yelp and brought in my sick laptop. Within 60 seconds the gentleman knew it was my monitor, not the video card, plugged it into an external monitor and by gosh there it was. No charge. Place is clean - looked like you could eat lunch on the floor but it's beautiful wood flooring so who'd want to do that! These guys are awesome! I had an external hard drive go bad. This hard drive had really important wedding footage/pictures that I needed to edit. UnfortunatelyI didn't have it back up on another drive. I went to these guys after a few failed attempts to some other shops and they saved me! They were able to retrieve and transfer the footage and photos to my new 5TB for a solid price. I met both Dan and Sal, and these guys were super friendly and helpful. I had to go back because a couple of clips were still missing and Sal was able to get those clips back within the next day with no additional charge. Definitely would recommend this place! Amazing guys here. I took my computer in for repair. When I went to pick it up, they told me no charge due to accidental physical damage to the exterior (which didn't hamper the computer's functionality, nothing against them or their professionalism, just cheap Chinese parts that crack when you pry the laptop open). Since they had it for a while and put so much work into it, I still offered to pay them for their time, but he refused just because of the damage they accidentally had done. Computer still works great, but just because they didn't charge me even after I offered to pay them, I have to commend them highly for their business ethics. read more

Dan and his crew at Computer 1 are not only extremely competent and knowledgeable they are also genuinely nice people and generous with their time! Twice I have gone to them for help with a computer problem and both times they honestly assessed the problem, "buy a new computer it is not worth fixing" and "next time call us before you try fixing the problem yourself" (I accidentally removed all the programs from my computer). They patiently explained what happened, why it happened and what needed to be done. They did all this without making this computer challenged aging baby boomer feel like a complete idiot. Also when I called them in a panic several years ago when the Benicia Peddlers' Fair computer crashed just days before the fair, they dropped everything and came to our office, they fixed the problem and restored what we lost and saved the day. Can't say enough about what a great experience it was when we took our lap top to this business. They knew what to do to fix all the problems going on in the computer. Called right away with an estimate and fixed it within 24hrs. We were educated about things to do to keep the computer running smooth and the desktop was set up to make everything much easier. We were encouraged to return it we had any problems. The store was clean and organized (I have been to computer repair shops that kind of scared me because there was so much stuff everywhere you could barely get in the door )The price was more than reasonable. I've been going here for years. Over the last 3 or 4 years i've had them build 2 custom machines for me, and even "frankenstine" another one for me using some old parts I had. And they all worked great! As soon as I have any problems I call them up they fit me in and get my stuff fixed up. Even when I wanted the latest and greatest parts they warned me of the extra costs without improving processing power much. (I wanted it anyway but I appreciate them looking out for my wallet.) They are both professional while being personal and will even give you a deal here and there ontop of their already very fair prices. My mom turned me on to this spot. She has found the staff to be quite helpful for troubleshooting and addressing her questions and I do concur. This all came to an abrupt halt when I had the misfortune of interacting with the owner. The owner was extremely rood with me and lacked the necessary interpersonal skills required for humane customer service. I was misinformed about the service that was to be provided then with no explanation I was shortly cut off. Perhaps I should have taken note by his miss treatment of a teenage customer trying to purchase a can of coke. I took my computer in to have it looked at and have a diagnostic performed as it was acting a little finicky. Shortly after dropping it off I received a call telling me that the hard drive was bad. I stated that I had about $800 bucks in software and other important business information and I needed all of it put back onto the new hard drive. I was told by a very helpful employee that this would be no problem. When I picked up my computer 22 hrs later aside from the OS it was completely empty. Nothing was transferred over. I only agreed to paying $214 for the new hard drive if they could get all of my software and downloaded info over. When I called the shop the owner was completely short with me. Not offering an explanation just more misinformation. Immediately I called up another local computer technician made an appointment and after 6 hours and $148 bucks. I got all my software put back over. I suppose I could of had computer 1 come threw on their promise but in the end I felt more comfortable doing business with someone who treated me like a human being. Aside from my interaction with the owner I was fairly impressed with computer 1. I found the staff to be helpful and patient but was sadly disappointed by the service I received by the owner. There were definetly conflicting reports from the service reps i initially delt with vs my interactions with the owner but honestly I feel that the discrepencies are of no burden that I should bare. The customer isnt always right but the customer should never be treated roodly or accused of lieing. If the owner was really concerned with customer service i feel this would have been remedied. For that alone I caution anyone considering this shop. I don't make a habit of ripping people on yelp and I'm just doing this to caution people of the service I experienced. Aside from my poor customer service experience I feel the shop will adequately service your computer needs. I just wouldn't expect gracious service from the owner. Just moved to California and my PC would not come on after the 2200 mile drive in the dead of summer heat. After weeks of dreading the news that I was going to have to buy a new one I finally called Computer 1 and asked for a house call. I was told a house call would be $99 but if I brought the tower in they would look at it for free. A day later I did and it cost me $5 and 10 minutes of time to have my computer back in perfect working order. They techs were friendly, professional, and helpful, even carrying my computer back to the car for me. We had a 3 year old computer which had been inundated with a virus. They removed the virus but the computer was extremely slow! We brought it down a couple of times as it was still so slow. The computer worked fine in the shop so we determined the problem was at home. My husband and I even replaced the Xfinity modem, thinking that might be the problem. No such luck! Matt offered to make a "house call", which we accepted. He diagnosed the problem (evidently the modem and computer weren't on the same wave length) and got it working like new within a half hour. Excellent service at a very fair price. Though my laptop was beyond repair, they patiently transferred all my data to a new laptop the following week.
