READ THIS - It'll help you make a decision on whether to trust Dork Tec. I got a lap top battery replaced. I was quoted $250 Credit card and $220 Cash. Anthony of Dork Tec on 1540 Union Street, San Francisco, CA 941023. changed the terms to $250 + Tax + $17 battery disposal fee via text. I objected. He later raised charges to $691.50. He later said that he would sell my computer. Details: On 10/10/2025 I got a quote over the phone. The conversation went like this: Me. I need my laptop batter replaced. The battery is swollen. Dork Tec: What is your computer model? Me: 15inch Macbook from 2015 Dork Tec: Give me the model number on the bottom of the laptop Me: OK -I found the number and recited it over the phone.- Dork Tec: We're going to have to unglue the battery because the battery is glued on. We might have the part here but not sure. If we don't have it here, we'll have to order it. Anthony can do that. He comes in at around 9:30am. The battery requires disposal. Its $250 credit card or $220 cash. I drop off my laptop later that day and I get a $250 on a piece of paper from Anthony. I ask him who was at the store number this morning. He said Alessandro, Alessandro is the boss. When they're done with repairs I get text saying I owe another $17 for disposal. He texts me that he sure was lucky because 58 years of experience has told him to wear a mask and he could have died. I'm thinking: this isn't the first swollen battery he's fixed, what a tale. That was supposed to be included in $220 cash or $250 credit card. I'm like what? Wait, how much is tax? He won't answer. I tell him I talked to someone else on the phone on 10/10 with the quote. I stick to the quote because that was the phone quote. You can't change the numbers after the phone quote. Anthony does a number and says that I'm lucky he's not suing me for the battery gas leak. Anthony says that he'll give me time to pick up the laptop. So I'm like ok. Then later he says he's charging a $20 / day storage fee. Then, he inflates the cost of the repair to $691.50 dollars unless I pay soon. Then, he says he'll sell my computer if I don't pay his price. This is ridiculous. See the photos attached for the evidence trail. The first screenshot is the 5 minute phone conversation that I had where I got the quote on 10/10 9:02am at 415-655-3030. The rest is the message thread from Anthony. Nobody likes getting bullied and Anthony is a bully for money. He's "NO REPLY" my number, which I think actually means that he's blocked me. I just called 10/22/2025 9:08am 415-655-3030 but I get a voicemail outgoing message. I sent a "Payment Demand" letter via email to service@dorks.website at 9:28am today. You decide whether you want to work with Dork Tec. Why didn't I talked to Mike? Well, because Mike might as well be Anthony's dad or cousin. I thought posting this would actually get me touch with the guy I talked to on 10/10. Why did I sign the piece of paper? You would too, if you $250 was credit and $220 was cash. Note, that piece of paper doesn't have anything broken out such as TAX line item even though the piece of paper has it there. Watch for: 1. Credit card companies cannot dispute tax. That is the trick behind using tax as the charge NOT on the documented quote. 2. If you look at the photo of the quote, tax is not written down - but neither is labor or materials. 3. He will talk about tax and cost of materials. This will lead you to believe that the "$250" is an all in sum. If you ask, make him tell you if tax is included or not in the $250 before you sign anything. 3. Credit card disputes can only be along the lines of quality of service. Anthony is going to provide CC with photos of his work, but that's not necessarily enough. Anthony because his "service" - raising a quote of $250 to $691.50 and then saying that he'll sell my laptop is poor service. 4. The estimate of $691.50 is disputable charge on credit card because the credit card companies will do price comparisons across vendors to see if its a fair price. (I'd suggest to CC company that they call Dork Tec directly and get their estimate and they'll feel fooled just like me.) 5. Dispute must be taken to court and not be taken to the CC company. 6. Do not use credit card and sign receipt. You will not be able dispute tax. You still will be able to dispute the battery disposal fee. read more

I highly recommend Dork Tec for your MacBook repairs. Recently, my MacBook screen wouldn't turn on. I took it to one shop in SF specializing in MacBooks that recommended against a repair because the expected cost would be more than a new MacBook. I then took it to the Apple Store who said they straight up would NOT do the repair. I gave up and decided I'd have to make the plunge to buy a new computer. But, before that... I decided to try one more shop... Dork Tec. Anthony who was there was so knowledgeable and seemed to know exactly what was wrong and quoted me much MUCH less than the price tag of a new computer. He had it fixed in days and was very easy to communicate (we texted). My computer was BACK... but then months later I had a camera issue. Anthony agreed to take a look at the issue, no charge. After his various attempts, the camera was still not connecting. He offered to micro-solder something to something and it worked. I don't know any customer service place that has this kind of quick and honest service. More great help from Anthony. I was having trouble with a thumb drive and wasn't sure if it was my computer, the thumb drive or a scanner someone had loaned me. Anthony found the thumb drive to be defective, tried some pretty sophisticated approaches to see if it could be salvaged, and even provided me the link for the manufacturer's recall where they acknowledge the hardware issue and provide a refund. This was well beyond what I would consider excellent service. I can't vouch for the name "Dork's Tec Cafe," but I can vouch for Anthony, the owner / operator. He knows his stuff, he's a cool guy, and he runs a nice, informal shop. My problem was that the webcam on my new but still out-of-warrantee Lenovo went south. The only place I could find that was official Lenovo was 1) in SF, 2) $100 for an evaluation, 3) must leave the box for at least a few days, 4) additional for the repair. Anthony did the eval for free, worked that is was a firmware issue, and fixed it for $80 straight up in a few hours. Plus the computer runs better now. Just a bit crisper, if you know what I mean. And the name of the shop did get me in, so maybe it worked too. read more

I am very happy with the service and the price - I think I saved close to $100. If you're looking for excellent technical support and repair service, Dork's Tec Café is the crème a la crème in all the East Bay area. Anthony is not only highly knowledgeable in his trade, but he also offers the best prices for his services--you won't find better prices from major competitors. The other half of Anthony's business is his café, which he touts making the best cup of coffee around. I have to admit that Anthony's claims aren't too exaggerated. I've become a bit of a coffee snob and even can't resist grabbing a cup of coffee from Dork's when I'm in the neighborhood. Yes, it's that good. The café also has a wide selection of pastries from Grand Bakery. Couple your fresh brew with several goodies and you're in heaven. My favorite pastries are the russian tea cakes and meyer lemon lavender cookies (they're also vegan!). Every time I'm here, I can't help but take one of each back home with me. I really wish I knew how to make these pastries as good as the ones here at home. I could eat these for days. I 100% recommend Dork's Tec Café for the stellar service offered by Anthony.
