Wow, Computer Antics just came over to my place and now my laptop is actually working better than when I first bought it. My laptop came with Windows Vista and is about three years old, so there are a lot of programs on it slowing it down. The tech that came by really helped me out by telling me what programs I am safe to uninstall and which programs I need to keep. For example, I had three virus programs running at the same time (AVG, Norton, and McAfee). He uninstalled them and replaced them with a free light (and better) anti-virus software. He also downloaded another anti-spyware program (also free) that caught three spyware files that my other spyware software never picked up. I had never had a tech come to my place because I always thought the service seemed expensive, but this tech was able to do so much in so little time that it was definitely worth the price. EXCELLENT VALUE! :) Besides the services completed above, he set up an encryption on my wireless network. He also linked another laptop I had that I was never able to connect. That was the laptop with the camera and now I can finally Skype my family overseas. Lastly, he demonstrated to me how to connect my computer to my TV so I can watch YouTube, Hulu, and other free programing. He even gave me the VGA cable for free. Michael's service is commendable in so many ways. He almost always answers the phone, and when circumstances prevent it, he then follows up with previous phone calls as soon as possible. The first time I called him, he returned my call even though I hadn't even left a message! This turned out to be very helpful, because I was having a great deal of trouble recovering my gmail account. He took the time to provide a few "common sense" suggestions which ended up helping lead me to the resolution of the problem. He is very knowledgeable once again when I when I need to translate some .jpg files into text, and even provided me with a referral to someone who specializes in that. He's such a great problem-solver, and therefore I would always be pleased to have his consultation in relation to virtually any tech issue, large or small. My computer stopped smiling a week ago. It was doing some weird things that I didn't think was spyware related so I had no clue on how to fix it. I loved the prior reviews for ComputerAntics and figured I give these guys shot. He offered to pick up for a small trip charge but I just opted to drop it off. I called ComputerAntics a few weeks ago when my PC Laptop stopped retrieving data. I read the reviews on yelp and thought I'd give them a try. I've gotta say, Mike is an untamed circus animal. He's disciplined for the show, people applaud his work but he'll run off when as the show is done. The guy understands your needs, his prices are fair, and is really good at what he does but somehow I don't think he's found his true calling. Anyway, if you want an honest guy that has a lot to share with you beyond computers then go with ComputerAntics. I met Mike through my girlfriend. I never really bothered to use him simply because I can handle most of my computer related crap on my own. However, I deleted the file the other day that I badly needed back. It wasn't in the recycling bin nor was it in the seat cushions of my couch! :) I tried some file recovery software online but I ended placing malware on my machine. Mike totally saved me days of work! When my laptop got the "system check" virus while I was working remotely, I must have done something stupid to make the situation worse--I probably clicked on one of the wrong bogus links. I couldn't even start up my computer. Our contracted IT support was 100 miles away (in LA), and they told me that I would either have to ship/drive the computer to them or find someone local to take a look. I called Mike, and he got the laptop functioning again, saved all my data, and kept me informed of his progress. And, he even talked to our IT people to explain (in computer-ese) exactly what he did. I struggled with my home wireless network for nearly two weeks after a power outage damaged the network and wouldn't allow us to get e-mail or internet access. Since my husband works from home, this was a real problem. I am "somewhat" computer literate and went so far as to purchase a new router, which I still couldn't get set up as we had a complicated system with several pieces of equipment talking to each other (supposedly). After reading the positive reviews on Yelp, I called Mike who was able to come out right away, figure out the problem and get us back to work, even simplifying the network setup.
